Hey guys I need lots of help. First off I would like to say i'm a bit nervous of installing a driver because last time I did this it completely failed and I had to back up restore my computer.

Anyways, I would like to first ask how do I know if I need to download 11.2, as stated in the directions. Do i know if my computer has radiance display and that make me 1st gen? My computer doesn't have radiance display btw.

Also when I go to my Device Manager and go under Display Drivers it doesn't specifically say AMD RADEON BLAHBLAH. All it says is Intel(R) HD Graphics. Is that the same thing? And so if i uninstall that does that mean I uninstall both INTEL and AMD? I am soo confused. @___@

Other than that I guess i'll try doing the directions and hopefully it works. I need this to get working before GW2 comes out. :)

whats the best way to upgrade to the latest drivers without relying on ironman to release something.

Whats the drawback from downloading direct from ATI? What is the difference between the drivers on ATIs site and the ones in this thread?

This looks really interesting. Has anyone tried this? The only thing that scares me is the part where it installs a program to bypass unsigned drivers in Win7 x64.

@Cirial: I suggested these as a fix for an user having weird problems switching graphics on his DV6 using the official package. He says that totally fixed the problem, so, they work!.
But, yes, the drivers are not signed and Win x64 is not accepting unsigned drivers. There is also an utility that wipes out any ATI/Intel driver priot to install.

I've never used driver sweeper before. I took Magnus advice in another thread and uninstalled all AMD/ATI video drivers, rebooted and ran driver sweeper. After I rebooted I did stock 10.8 drivers and then installed 11.2. I didn't understand why I needed to go to 11.2 before 12.4 but I followed his advise anyway. Thankfully it worked and I have no artifact problems with Diablo 3. Thanks guys :)

the main reason you have to go 11.2 first is that for some Envy 14s you can't jump from stock 10.8 to 12.4. It will blue screen while installing the drivers.

I dunno why, but that's what mine does. I have to install 11.2 first, then the blue screen doesn't happen and everything is fine.

Hey all, When you guys right click the catalyst control centre icon in the system tray icon, do you see only 1. Mobile Intel(R) HD Graphics or can you also see the Radeon HD 6630M? I can only see the the Intel option and my CCC will never start up at all. I've tried reinstalling drivers etc. I have the ENVY 14 2020NR

I'm thinking maybe my graphics card has gone bust because catalyst control centre just will not load and when I right click the sys tray icon I only see the intel HD. I can still see the card in device manager.

I got the Envy 14, 1st gen, with the 8.771.1.0 drivers. Is it just to download the latest 12.4? Or do it have to install one and one version up to 12.4?
I have messed things up with video drivers before so I dont wont to risk it now when I soon will play diablo 3! So just to be sure, the 12.4 version works with the 1st gen envy 14? Got 5650...

my envy 14 1st gen I have to install amd 11.2 then I can install 12.4

so try that since we have the same computer (radiance screen, etc)

edit: once you're on 12.4 you can just install them sequentially as 12.5, 12.6, etc comes out.

After trying to install the latest driver on my 6630 (I followed the directions), the screen started flashing in the lower left and right areas of the display. Then I followed the troubleshooting directions which seemed to work, but now when I right click and open the graphics properties, I get an error saying that "No AMD graphics driver is installed, or the AMD driver is not functioning properly". How does one fix this problem?

you may have to start over and get rid of all the drivers currently installed. you also may need to be on manual switching mode.

On the AMD website it says that the newest drivers aren't compatible with switchable graphics enabled laptops. So what happens if I install the latest drivers?

And is there a noticeable performance increase with the updates?

    Thanks,

    They officially aren't compatible.

They work anyway, but you have to manually download them from a direct link (instead of using AMD's downloader) to get the graphics.

performance SHOULD increase for some games with the updates. You have to install them on top of your HP AMD drivers or else you lose switchable graphics.

if you're on a first gen envy 14 (as in envy 14 cto 1000 with a radiance screen. The later first gen envy 14s without a radiance may not need to do this) you have to install 11.2 before you can install anything else or else you will blue screen.

yeah. and if that doesn't work start over with the latest stock HP drivers (8.771.3 or something..whatever it is) and then put 11.2 on it before going to 12.4

Anyone know idle and load temps for the 14 - 1xxx series?
Im running 55-57C idle; 78-81C under load. This just seems suspiciously high.
and I think it might be causing my NBA 2k12 and Batman Arkham City to crash the video drivers.
oh and here are the lasst few entries from GPU-Z before the crash. (screen goes dead, pc needs a hard reset)

    Update.
Temps are fine now 40ish idle, and things are going great. Except Skyrim is now acting up. I dont get why a year ago, all my games played perfectly fine on a brand new install, now everything has changed. The drivers "become unresponsive and stop working" while im playing on my bigscreen

    Hi

Just got my Envy 14-2099en today has intel HD 3000 & AMD 6630 (8.830.6.2000)

I just want to confirm that i can download the latest "12.4" and install the driver directly over my stock HP driver and everything should work fine ?

Or should i first uninstall the stock driver or install drivers incrementally e.g. 11.2 11.8 and then 12.4 ?

    Please let me know ASAP.

    Thanx Mate !

First I must share this feeling of accomplishment that I have finally found such an informing thread on an issue that I have believed I have had since owning this first gen envy 14, which is the inability to update my graphics card drivers, causing less than decent performance in all the games I have really ever played. So, now that I am fully updated to 12.4 after multiple driver installations, it even feels like my computer is running smoother(though I am most likely just very happy). I want to shout out to ironman as well as all the other people for their comments which helped me figure this out. I will be recommending this thread to any other envy owner with the same problem.

    A few others questions...
    1) Is 12.4 the last and latest update for the envy ati graphics? Will this thread continue to be updated with the latest drivers if more are to come? If I were to look on the ati website for updates, just in case, I would be able to directly use the drivers for the 5650? Also, what is the purpose of the preview drivers?
2)Has anyone overclocked their gpu using the tool in the OP? Thoughts?

    EDIT: latest release is 12.6 ( http://www2.ati.com/DRIVERS/mobile/12-6_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc.exe)
Hello and Im glad that you've finally settled up with your envy, now, the 12.6 are the latest official release of AMD drivers.

Right now there is the 12.7 Official beta( AMD Catalyst ™ 12.7 Beta Driver) and you can download those and install them, Im using 12.6 beta right now. You cant download them directly from amd because it wont let you install.

Overclocking is not recommended for envy 14 since overheating issues, and the max you overclock will give you 3-4 fps max.

How does one know to install the 1st or 2nd gen stock drivers? Does it have something to do with the type of envy you have?

Not sure if this is a problem or not but I recently updated to 12.6 but when I went to device manager to check my version it says my version is 8.980.0.0. Did the update not install properly or am I not looking in the correct spot to see the version of my driver?

Had the same problem with arkham asylum and skyrim and some other games, I just downloaded msi afterburner and underclocked the GPU by about 50 for every problematic game and no crash so far. Try it out.

I have been running 12.4 with no issues. Today I upgraded to 12.6 and had crashes when coming back from hibernation.

I uninstalled only the video driver and installed the 12.4 video driver only (8.961.0.0) and back up and running now, no issues.

    Hi,
    Sorry to necro this thread.

On the first page, this link doesn't work:
    Stock HP/ATI (1stGen): [Download]
    Driver version: 8.771.1.0
    09/09/2010
    (Source SWSetup Folder)

I did a clean install and have no recovery disks.

If someone could help me out with HP ENVY 14 1002TX recovery discs it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I am using 12.4 ATI/AMD drivers, but is there anyway to update to the newest Intel drivers while still maintaining switchable graphics?

I tried. So far it has not helped.
I found that if I completely removed the back cover of the envy, exposing the fans, and the heatsinks, that no crashes occur.
I've run Guild Wars 2 (with some graphical glitches b/c it's in beta), Skyrim, NBA, and Mass Effect 3 all day today with no problems.

Could this be a heating issue? Even with the cover on, the gpu only gets to 78*C maximum, although it hasn't inched over 75*C with it off.

Reposting this from before as I still have not figured it out:

Not sure if this is a problem or not but I recently updated to 12.6 but when I went to device manager to check my version it says my version is 8.980.0.0. Did the update not install properly or am I not looking in the correct spot to see the version of my driver?

Hello I am having some issues,

Whenever I want to update my graphics drivers on my 1st gen envy 14 I follow the instructions listed in the first post. Today I did it, as usual everything was fine for uninstalling drivers -> stock -> 11.2, but twice now I've installed the 12.4 drivers listed and it kills my switchable graphics options as well being able to open the catalyst control centre. Whenever I click on CCC or change switchable graphics the computer makes it seems like something is loading, but nothing happens.

In device manager my AMD driver is at version 8.961.0.0, I have looked through this thread a bit but can't find a solution, can anyone help? What if I was to install 12.6 over this, could it magically bring back my switchable graphics? Or maybe if I went from 11.2 -> 12.6?
