OMG SMOOTH ON 720? If I use auto the settings are set some to medium-high and on 1366x768, its unplayable, i will try to reinstall windows and install 11.10 over stock drivers and see if it works, wish me luck, also ironman do you have the preview? the ones that got out on sept 26??

    11.10 preview drivers @ 09/28/2011
    Driver: 8.901.0.0

holy -=-=, did you say reinstall windows?

    1. go safe mode.
    2. go to device manager and remove the drivers for both intel and ati cards and choose not to save the driver software. (for 2nd gen, idk if intel is there)
    3. restart.
    4. open any ati driver update setup file and choose remove all ati software.
    5. restart.
    6. install stock.
    7. restart.
    8. install latest driver. (11.10 can be found here under preview drivers.

it is strange but when I play on auto, at 1280x720 i get like 35 fps wich is great, but when I lower things i get less fps? could this be because of beta?

    //

Also on bfbc2 i get like 40 fps in dx11 and everything on medium, also cleaning my fans helped me a lot with the heating i do it once a month i clean everything and now it rus really good, be sure to not be playing on heat surfaces or something like that.

I think it might be a problem of the beta, because when I play on Auto and 800x600 the game runs smoot even 50 fps, but when I increase the resolution just to 1024x768 it goes to 25 fps! thats insane! And it Doesnt Matter if I put the game all in low and 1024x768 im sitll getting bad fps! Ill just hope for release and see if it works better!

Hey guys now I have another problem, I reinstalled windows (cause my comp was slow as hell, could be that i have a 5400rpm hdd but anyways, i reinstalled) and i updated the drviers to 11.9, NOW the release notes says that I need to have service pack 1 installed to catalyst drivers work, but I yet dont have sp1 installed and the AMD drivers installed fine, im right now downloading the SP1, but should i reinstall the AMD drivers after SP1 is installed?

depends. it doesn't have DX11 yet.

It may be a somewhat upgraded New Vegas, stat's requirement wise. (or it may be a brand new thing...though it seems like it's a mixture)

still getting it on the 360 though.

I dont think so about rage, some youtubers claim to run it but, idk, maybe with the patch by ATI.

Also has anyone tried GTA IV? I dont mind run it on low as long as I can play it :D

no. That was fallout new vegas.

I dunno what you'd need to do to get GTAIV to run right.

I know OCed 5650s at 1336x768 could run it (with fraps recording)

so...it could probably run at medium or so with a decent (but not insane) draw distance. I should check that out sometime.

I've been playing Batman Arkham with a 1st gen HP Envy 14 (radiance). It would run flawlessly to a point, but eventually would overheat and crash my system. I'm now running it at a severely reduced resolution (1024x576) and most features turned off.

What is the best performance with this game people have squeezed out of their systems? I've updated to the 11.9 drivers, which maybe crash less.

Arkham City or Asylum, cause I played Asylum with no problems at all.

EDIT: Arkham City isnt even out yet xD, and in Asylum I played at 1366x768 with everything in HIGH except for Physx.

Asylum, sorry with the new game I should have specified.

Yeah, that's why I thought it was so weird: It seems to run on max settings fine, but then crap out randomly.

I'm gonna check with fraps but so far it can run battlefield 3 with the amd 11.10 preview 3 drivers.

    at 1280x720.

1600x900 is sub 30 the entire way though from what I can feel.

edit: okay. 1280x720 seems to max at like 25 to 30 or so outside no matter what the settings. oh well. It feels smooth enough to not bother me too much. Hopefully they'll improve things some.

Just wanted to report back that a combination of new drivers, fan-dusting and it not being the hot summer have solved my crashing woes. Thanks for the assurance it was possible, I was set to play this game on crap settings the whole way through.

    Help anyone?

So ive got a couple extra bucks in my savings (around 240) that im willing to spend and i was hoping to get an ssd, mw3 (xbox), 8gb ram upgrade, and BF3. Ive played the bf3 beta and quite enjoyed it and was hoping to get it but i also want to have enough money for an ssd. so my question is, what kind of experiences do you guys have with ssds and should i either buy a 120gb one (160 dollars) or a 60gb one (90 bucks), please help me :D

If it's going to be your system's only drive, 60 is going to be extremely claustrophobic, especially since the common recommendation is to keep 40% of an SSD free for best performance. If you're going to put the SSD or your Momentus in the optical bay, then 60 would be fine for a system drive with one or two games on it and maybe a couple commonly used programs. Honestly, since you've already got a hybrid drive, I don't think an SSD is really worth your money when the money's stretching as it is - you sacrifice so much storage and spend so much cash for what is really just a relatively small speed upgrade.

Buying a 60 GB would also allow you to buy your games and probably your RAM upgrade without significantly overspending your budget, whereas with the 120 you'll definitely have to drop one of the games.

My other question is that has anyone played bf3 with the first gen envy? what kind of framerates can i expect? will i be even able to play this game on low settings at 1366x768? thanks

    @liam19

Thats really weird, you should try to first check in powerplay if you have your "high performance GPU" turned on, since sometimes your computer wont register the change. If that doesn't work, try to update your drivers. Also, you can use sapphire trixx to overclock your card which is what i recommend since all the other OC programs such as afterburner dont work for me.

    Hope that helps

also, if he's on the sandy bridge envy 14 he may need to setup manual switching.

if he is on manual gpu switching he may need to make sure powerplay isn't acting up like it does on the older envy 14s

@ironman what fps did u have in the bf3 beta? Im trying out the game before I get it and on singleplayer im getting around 30 fps but sometimes it can spike up or down. I followed your guide woth the drivers and only sae a marginal gain, is there anything else I can do to improve my framerates?

    Thanks

I did not check for fps as it was very smooth. hopefully some people did and can share their fps. you can try overclocking but it will not give dramatic gain.
