Well i went to Best buy to finally get a look at the laptops. Im mostly interested in the 15 inch envy. The build quality is better than what I'm upgrading from, i used to have a dv6 with a sandy bridge processor but not quiet where id like it to be. Cant comment on the 1080p because the display was a 1366x768. I wasn't able to see a non touch screen model because they only had the touchscreen models. If anybody has handled both i would like to know how similar the materials are. Last i heard the non touch smart model is made most of plastic. Also. Apparently pretty awesome battery![]()
-
Battery life is very impressive! Curious to see what a 750m model would do.
-
Defiantly and this is the touchscreen model. Non touch screen model is said to have 9 hours!
-
Whoa, did you find that in a publicly available place? And... does that mean the cs rep gave me the part number for a screw?
-
Did it have a external removable battery ?
-
Anyone know if you order the 740/750 gpu will it have a bigger charger ? Compared to if I just order with the iGPU ?
-
with a 740/750 GPU you will need a 120W charger... so it will be bigger...
-
Yeah found that publicly. Rep are pretty useless at finding things. I am somewhat sure that most don't know other than what we know, likely maybe due to in company NDA, or the reps are restricted to information.
iGPU should be a 95w adapter. -
Guys , those waiting for 750M on 15". The wait is over ! Bundle Details - HP Online Store But i am located in Singapore so i reckon the Asia pacific will soon all have that model. Anyone have any idea whether 750m also have the 64 bit limit ?
-
If you go to Specifications, this is what it says unfortunately.
Graphics
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M (2 GB DDR3 dedicated) -
What about the memory bandwith ?
I am tempted to buy after they launch this model, actually started sourcing for alternative like asus and samsung.
Anyone have any opinion on the worth of this configuration at the price of thickness compared to other slim notebook in the market -
lol meanwhile stateside... -_-
-
Ok I give up, where did you find it? My searching skills are failing me here.
-
COME ON HP I need a laptop by July 6th just offer the stupid 750m already
-
The difference is marginal GeForce GT 750M vs 740M and if it comes with DDR3 instead of 5 then even moreso. Personally, I wouldn't feel all that bad about losing a few fps but until some real benchmarks come out I guess we won't know for sure.
-
look at what ive noticed today at hp's facebook page...
www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=101...4364895289.307417.191187460289&type=1&theater
envy 15/17 j### notebook displaying 3D!
could it be an indication of an envy 3D version?
if yes, just hope its not again a 17-3000 3D series-like fail which is unable to render anything in 3D since gpu underpowered (7690XT), which the GT740/750M would be likewise... -
Not likely, the 750M DDR3 version will have the GK107 core which is 128bit.
And the 740M DDR3 version will have the GK208 core which is 64bit.
This is how HP a separating the GPU's mainly as they both have the same amount of shaders. -
What I can see from the photo and the width of the machine, including the 2 USB on the left used, and then the 1 USB on the right with headphone jack placement in use, this is a 15 inch model. Also check out the shine on the touch pad, this is the same glass type which is used on the Envy 4 and Envy 6 models.
At this stage my 750M is taking so long to get from the factory in China to my local store, I'm just about to give up on this model. Especially now it appears a DDR3 type 750M is the only option.
And the 3D based 15 model with better track pad is a concern. Kind of says newer models with better specs are on the way in the same chassis.
Brings the question, why should we buy any of these earlier models if better ones of the same type maybe so close just around the corner, you could end up with very basic release models? -
I found an interesting site for comparing graphics card, you can also check how well the card will play the game you want.
Nvidia GeForce GT 740M compare Nvidia GeForce GT 750M GPU
Now that the 750m is out in Singapore, I am still at a dilemma whether to get this Envy 15t or chip out a bit more and switch to Samsung Chronos series 7 with AMD 8870. -
That is not correct, it shows a GK107 vs GK107 which are the same cores, and the same memory bandwidth, with different clock speed only.
You need to get it to show GK208 vs GK107. -
What makes everyone so sure that the 750M is gk208? I haven't found any info from nvidia indicating such. In fact, if you look at the pci id database...
http://pciids.sourceforge.net/v2.2/pci.ids

Well it looks like the 740 just might carry the GK208, if you get the right model, while the 750M only has the GK107 listed.
And furthermore this list suggests that the 750M is not 208: NVIDIA presents new 700M series models - NotebookCheck.net News -
750M is the GK107
-
A BB rep confirmed that the Envy touchsmart models that they carry so have IPS displays. Question is, why don't the HP options offer the same?
-
Would pay to have a look in person. The FHD touch smart model I have seen was a TN panel and not IPS.
Although there is a non-touch model with IPS display, which is officially spec with that from HP, but that is for sale in South Africa only.
Although different markets may have different specs, generally everything is much the same when coming from the same manufacturing plants.
btw. At the moment there are no touch smart 17 inch models. -
Actually, the one at best buy is a 17" touchsmart HP ENVY TouchSmart 17.3" TouchScreen Laptop 8GB Memory 1TB Hard Drive m7-j010dx - Best Buy
It seems to be a BB exclusive, and I did see it in person... looked like IPS to me. -
That pretty cool, the 17 models with touch were meant to be coming later. Well I guess in the scheme of things, it is much later. Both the 15 touch and non-touch model have been around for 1 month now here.
-
I'd actually rather get it from HP... no option to upgrade to a dedicated GPU or to a blu-ray drive through BB. I might wait a bit to see if the same screen shows up on HP's site.
-
If the HPs get the 750m upgrade will it be on par with the 14in y410p? Without SLI of course. I really wanna game on it (civ and SimCity) on medium to high settings. Otherwise I'll be considering the y510p
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4 Beta -
Likely not, almost all indications are showing that HP have chosen to use DDR3 with their 750M. That will mean the Y510 with GDDR5 will kick its butt.
-
The weight is what's killing me. My G60Jx weighs 7.2bs!! I guess a 6lb laptop will be an improvement but a 5lb laptop will be great. I guess I'll probably get the envy and just game on the Xbox...
need at least 5+ hrs of battery life. For school. Can't have it all. The razor blade is the only layout which offers best of everything. Except a crappy display.

If anyone got the 740m or knows, is switchable graphics on (To the Intel 4600) ? Or better, Optimus ?
Also how much weight does a mobile GPU usually add ?
And is there a button to turn off the backlit keyboard or do I have to do it with some software ?
I really don't play games that much but I don't really know what the benchmark is between the 4600 HD and the 740m, I'll be doing a lot of Adobe work in Premiere and After-Effects and I'm seriously considering dropping the GPU because of the weight of the GPU + Charger vs. Less weight with just the iGpu, they are basically the same price and I don't even care but I would love to hear why I should add the dGPU . -
I'm not very familiar with how the GPU works but is it possible to switch the GT740m for a better card? Or is that welded to the laptop somehow?
-
Also anyone know if the non-touch intel model build quality is worse then the touch-model ? I read that one has alloy and the other plastic .

Envy 17 2013 Notebook Hands On
HP Envy 17 Notebook Hands On - YouTube
someone uploaded video. As you can see HP Envy 17 comes with 740m or 750m nvidia graphic card. Plus on the bottom laptop has good ventilation holes - very good, and removable battery +++, very good screen non glossy and not infinity display +++, waiting for 750m and I gonna buy this laptop. -
This really looks cool, i like the build quality so far and color
damn where are all the reviews
-
62w ? I thought all of them had 47w .
-
Viewing angles look pretty good on that screen when he looks at it from the side at around 1:29.
-
My hp envy 15 non-touch amd model is coming in on tuesday so expect a review then
-
I would like to know that too. Also how big of a difference does picking the 1080p screen have on battery?
-
Yes they do indeed, and this vid has convinced me to take a gamble and configure a 17t-j000 from hp.com. I was originally dead set on a laptop with a matte IPS 1080p display, but these are apparently few and far between, bleh.
But I know that there are some tolerable TN's, so if that video is accurate then it looks like the anti-glare 1080p screen that HP is using for the Envy 17 is at least not the worst of the worst.
Here's my config:
HP ENVY 17t Quad
Windows 8 64
4th generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4900MQ Processor
Included 2 Year Warranty
Intel HD Graphics 4000
17.3-inch diagonal Full HD Anti-glare LED-backlit Display (1920 x 1080)
16GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
1TB 5400 rpm Hard Drive
NO mSSD Hard Drive Acceleration Cache
No Additional Office Software
No additional security software
6-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery
Blu-ray player & SuperMulti DVD burner
Backlit Keyboard
HP TrueVision HD Webcam w/ integrated digital mic
802.11b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R)
I'm assuming by HD 4000 they actually mean the 4600, because as I understand the 4000 is from the previous gen Ivy Bridge.
Total after all fees and taxes came out to about $1,100 after I used the SUMMER30 coupon, I think that's a decent price for those specs, but if anybody knows of any other laptop with those specs at that price then please let me know.
HP quotes "up to 9 hours 30 minutes" of battery life from their website: HP ENVY 17t-j000 Quad Edition Notebook PC | HP® Official Store
but I know that's total bull, so I'll be satisfied if it can manage at least 5 hours. If I get less than that I'm gonna raise a stink and probably return it.
-
Anybody know when the envy 14 might be released? Pulled the trigger on a envy 15 for $859. But i really do prefer a 14 inch laptop.
-
Let us know what you think when you get it! I'm on the fence regarding this laptop, and I'm waiting for some reviews to pull the trigger.
-
If you mean the 3200x1800 resolution one, Engadget gives a vague date of "later this summer".
-
If they wait to release a 750m model until after the summer coupons expire on the 30th I'm not going to be a happy camper. In fact, barring the possibility they release a similar discount, I'm going to be a spending my money elsewhere camper.
-
So I got a feel of the Envy touchsmart at Walmart and honestly, it feels pretty good. I love the design there's only a bit of flex in the lid, I felt minimal/ no flex in the keyboardalthough they had a plastic cover over the keyboard. Overall, if the 750m is good, I might consider this if I'm on a lower budget. -
It does look pretty sexy, gotta admit. I want the non-touch 15 quad. I have a bit of a dilemma though - I want the laptop to be as lightweight as possible, but I feel like the touchscreen models would feel/look a bit more premium because of the glass, although it will add bulk. On the other hand, I really don't see why I want a touchscreen because I'd have limited use for it, but I fear for the quality of the plastic, glossy screen and plastic bezel without the glass.
-
It isn't the hardware that is bad, it is the software. Click my sig and see if that works for you. Night and day for me.
-
I believe the Envy 15 non-touch is much lighter, it around .3 KG lighter, maybe more. Think official weight without touch is 2.19 KG, with the touch model you be over 2.5 KG.
I seen both and checked it out in person. Yes the glass does make it look nicer, as it goes all the way to the edges. The non-touch has a thick plastic bezel with a glossy plastic screen.
If you don't need touch, then you don't need the extra weight. The screen inside is the same. -
Store has said ETA is 1st July for my Envy 15 with 750M.
For those waiting on the 750M model to make an appearance, here is some good news of a i7-4700MQ with 750M and DDR3.
The benchmarks are looking good for the 750M and DDR3 up against a 650M with GDDR5, ignore the 740M comments somewhat, they will be referring to the 740M with 128bit GK107 core, not the slower 740M with 64bit GK208 that the Envy 15 has in it.
Although not an Envy, you can pretty much expect the same performance. Click on the link below, its from German to English.

Does anyone know if these new HP laptops have an mSata drive? I know the new Lenovo y510p has a nsff slot or something like that.
