Why would they be different? Does 3d version not have HD4000?
-
Exactly, we already paid for the laptops so we expect it to arrive in a timely fashion. The people that placed their orders first should have priority above all others... Not the other way around. I placed my order on the 8th and my estimated delivery is the 26th so I'm not upset... I get why others who ordered before me are though...
-
sigh i ordered 3 hours after the page updated... yet to recieve it
-
My suggestion is they need to remove some of those laptops on their website. They have what 30+ or more to buy from. That is way way too much. Then they can focus on the others. They should sell 20 and under. It's supply and demand. Remove models that aren't selling anymore just phase them out...
-
You know, I almost purchased the dv7 and Im so glad that I didnt b/c the day after I declined, The friggin price had reduced. I hope the same thing happens with the 17 32xx. If there is gonna be a sale on it anytime this month then it needs to be like now b/c Im so ready to order mine. I just dont know when is the right time.
-
I believe the Envy 3D CTO was advertised with Intel Wireless Display. If you can't switch to Intel graphics, there is no way you could use wireless display. Therefore a "defect" exists of some some sort to enable keeping that coupon. At the end of the day it's prob just a driver issue from HP's end.
-
You may be onto something. When I ordered my Envy 17 3d I chose the option with wireless display... Not sure if that option is still avail .

Intel WiDi is standard. This is not an option. HP has a wireless display that is better than WiDi that I have with my envy 3D. Cheaper on Amazon.
I had my laptop with me in the library today, syncing music with my blackberry, surfing and on the web, taking notes and doing email. Over 4 hours on envy 17 3D, and music syncing on brand new Sandisk card in Blackberry for more than half that time. -
When the page originally came out it was an upgrade for $10 I believe, but now I think they just made it a standard choice.
I am glad to see you are getting some good battery life power out of it though. Any word on the graphic switching? I think a lot of these "problems" people are pointing out early are probably just driver or software issues that they will correct soon enough. -
Getting good battery life because they are using an older Envy 17 3D that used to have graphic switching lol. I hope it ends up being a driver issue, but in my opinion the laptop will never have graphic switching well I wasn't willing to bet my money on HP fixing it at least
-
I still have my update to ship by the 15th, no e-mail from them about it being delayed either.
-
No 120Hz laptops work with the newer Optimus/Enduro GPU switching. It's a limitation of the iGPU. So don't expect a fix.
-
Anyone else having issues accessing the HP website? Keep getting DNS failure... Thought it was my connection, but i tried on my phone too. -_-
EDIT:
Nevermind. It's back up -
Terrible, just terrible.
-
Sorry to hear about the inability to switch graphics on the 3D model. I got my non-3D Envy 17 today, and it's a beautiful machine. Just finished making my restore discs, and loaded up my Steam games and Battlefield 3.
BF3 runs very smoothly at 1080p on high detail settings. Looks gorgeous. I'd only previously played the PS3 version, and the higher resolution and high quality textures are beautiful. I haven't done benchmarking, but it's definitely higher than 30 FPS to my eyes. -
Yes, BF3 runs beautifully on high (unlike 7690XT that I tried before), but I noticed the issue where after you exit the game the fan keeps blowing on high. The workaround for now is to put computer to sleep and bring it back up and the fan noise will be normal. Anyone else noticed that?
-
I played through the first 2 levels of single player campaign for Battlefield 3. Then I quit the game. The fan was blowing on high, but after quitting, it automatically scaled down back to a low blow for me. Didn't have to do anything; it just adjusted automatically.
-
this is without OCing correct?
-
Stock from the factory. No overclocking. I haven't even updated AMD drivers or anything.
-
Hm... well I'll try again. I actually played BF3 SP for couple of hours. Will try MP3 next...
-
It was the Envy 3D 17" CTO. The only changes I made, were 16MB of Memory, and the 750GB Hybrid drive. I cant imagine either would delay it, and I believe I noticed a couple others on this thread, who ordered 16GB and the hybrid drive, and received their Envys. I suspect there was a different issue, and most (if not all) orders are being delayed.
I'm trying to be patient, but once you need to get involved with HP customer service, you are speaking with folks who are overseas. From the events of the past 48 hours - they seem to be clueless. That's very disappointing, as I've been very loyal to HP over the years. -
So anyone pop off the cover and read the label on the battery yet? I really hope the battery is a 9-cell!
-
Hi everyone im looking to get one of these but wanted to know if i purchased the model without the MSATA ssd will hp cheap out and not include the actual socket for it on the systemboard like they did on some other envys or have people been lucky and the socket it there so they can add one on at a later date?
Thanks -
Yeah, these people. They are either complete liars or idiots. Here is my most recent chat log:
Agent : "I do see that the estimated ship date is June 15, 2012."
Agent : "Its current status is still in production."
Agent : "However, I have double checked and it is not included in our delay orders' list."
Agent : "Our reports are updated every 24 hours. May I recommend that you check the order status again within 24 hours?"
Soldiersinx: "So when will it ship. How long is the wait. I have been told by a couple of representatives already that it will ship the 15th and not to worry, that it is not delayed, but it still has not shipped."
Agent : "You may always check its current status at this link:"
Agent : "http://www.shopping.hp.com/"
Soldiersinx: "So it is definitely not on the delayed list correct? I know a couple people who ordered envy 17 also, and they have been delayed until the 26th of June."
Agent : "I do see that the shipping option selected it the 5-7 Business Days ( Home Delivery). Rest assured that it will indeed be delivered on or before time."
Agent : "I have double checked in our reports, and the great thing is that your order is not included in the delayed list."
Agent : "Since this is a customizable model, it may be undergoing customs check before shipping, that is the reason why the status is not yet changed to in transit."
So we will see, another agent verifying that my envy is not delayed, but it still hasn't shipped. -
What i would like to know is why the heck is the upgrade from the sandy bridge to the ivy bridge still $100 bucks more when customizing the envy 17 32xx, yet its free when customizing the pavilion dv7? Does anyone else think thats quite a ripoff with the envy?? I dont think I should buy yet until they make changes to that.
-
Perhaps the chipset? Did the chipset for the dv7 get updated too?
Sent from my SGH-i917 Windows Phone using Board Express -
Everything got upgraded for free with the DV7's.
-
Nevermind my ranting LOL I overlooked something while I was reading. I was only seeing the i5 part but not the part that said 3210. All is good.
-
MIDDLE FINGER!
Just got my Envy 17t-3000 CTO w i7 2670QM and Radeon 7690m!
Screw HP! -
Damn seriously that sucks hard... lol
-
What was your order and est. ship date?
-
Wow, way to drop the ball yet again hp. I need to decide if I want to cancel.
-
I opened up my Envy and this is what's inside.
HP 657503-001
6 CELL 91WHr 4.1Ah LI VT06091 BATTERY
Sorry to disappoint, but HP's specs are correct. It is a 6 cell battery. -
I want to point out the only cosmetic flaw I've found and it seems to be a manufacturing design flaw not a problem with assembly.
This is the front of the laptop. Take a close look at where the top shell meets the bottom shell.
The bottom shell sticks out from the front just a TINY amount. It's just enough than you can see and feel it. The shells sit flush on the sides. When I opened up the laptop to install my SSD, I took a close look at the bottom shell and how it was constructed. All the screw holds were lined up properly.
A friend at work also got his Envy 17 this week and I inspected his laptop as well. He had the same issue, but his was slightly worse.
This leads me to believe the molds that are used to cast the bottom shell has a defect. I'm not sure if previous generations had this issue or not.
One other flaw I've noticed is that there are a few keys on my keyboard that squeak. Mainly the backspace key and most of the keys in the ESC/F key row.
Anyone know a way to make it stop squeaking? -
This is confusing, the manual has the same thing written except it says 9-cell. The Envy 15 manual has an 8-cell and is labeled as 72WHr. Looks like the battery in the Envy 17 is larger in capacity overall. Maybe the cells are larger than the ones in Envy 15?
-
Ohh trust me maverick777, you'll see that flaw in almost every Envy unit. At least it's not as bad as the flaw I have on my previous generation Envy 15:
Not sure if it's caused by the dent, but the SD card reader isn't working. -
In any case, Windows is telling me I'm going to get a little over 5 hours on battery surfing the internet at 50% brightness with the keyboard backlight on.
-
Edit: double post.
-
Alright well i did receive my Envy on Friday. was mostly busy installing the SSD, and re installing a clean copy of windows. Now iirc, the 3D has the integrated Graphics disabled? is that correct? cause otherwise when installing the graphics drivers provided by hp's drivers page for my laptop. it did not install any drivers for an Intel 4000, So i'm stuck with only the ATI card on at all times?
just glanced at how much time i get on battery, 2hrs. A Farcry from there advertised 5.25 (im assuming id be closer if the intel graphics ticked in.)
So what do i do, did i simply do driver installation incorrectly? cause i feel quite jipped if i dont get a power saving mode (Integrated GPU), on the 3D model.
Need more info -
My status still says in Production and estimated ship the 15th but haven't received any delay emails either... I am curious if mine actually was shipped or not..
-
Is it possible to cancel an order once it's in production to order a quick-ship model?
-
well got off the phone with the envy concierge hotline, and after ALOT of bickering, (and the lack of the rep not understanding my questions) i was able to get from her mouth that the 3D 17 Envy's (specifically the 3200 series) does not have switchable graphics, and that the non 3D models do have switchable graphics.
Wow i feel completely anally raped. i now have to call there home and office hotline to start the return process and exchange for the non 3D Version. (i don't know if i want to get rid of 3D....)
Not to mention she also said that they'll probably not honor the coupon i used for my first order, so theirs that to think about.
================================
OKAY.... so either
1) Keep this envy (with only ATI Graphics (and crap battery)|Wishful thinking-With a possible work around to get Intel Graphics Enabled somehow, either through bios or some mod)
Or
2)return it, and get the Non 3D version with switchable graphics.......
i am disapoint....
-
Do you really need the 3D edition? How often will you actually use the feature? I have a 3d LED TV and have only used the 3d mode like once or twice. It sounds like battery life would be more important to you.
But if you do use the 3d option often I can see how that would be upsetting. I don't think the intel HD4000 has the juice to run a 120hz monitor. That's most likely the reason behind no switchable graphics on the 3d edition. -
I have never seen a 3d capable laptop with switchable graphics, let alone a decent battery life.
-
the 3D 2000 and 3D 3000 managed switchable graphics with an Intel 3000. And whenever you were on the Intel. 120hz was simply disabled. I'm confused why they had issues to have switchable graphics on the 3200.
I think even if i do decide to return my 3D 3200 envy. That i wont be able to get the same deal on a non 3D envy, which is really disappointing. And alot of battery life does sound better to me anyway. Well whatever the case. them for advertising 5.25 hrs of battery on the 3D model. And I'll inquire Monday about the return and whether or not i can get the same deal on the exchange

ask for manager etc, etc, explain ur situation. be like u would be losing a sale if u dont give me that coupon that should get them to apply the 33% off. if worse comes to worst just hang up and call again. if they refuse again just reorder with the new 450$ off coupon
-
I wonder if the problems discussed here may have something to do with the lack of support for switchable graphics. If so, there's a good chance it'll be solved once these issues have been figured out.
Envy 17 3d switchable graphics fails to switch to discrete g... - Page 2 - HP Support Forum -
i wonder, its a little disheartening though that the device manager does not show the intel card what so ever, sounds more of a bios/hardware issue.
-
Disabling the option all together at the bios may just be their way of dealing with the problem until they can iron out the issues. Then again who knows.
