I'd only reccomend that if you have a half-decent upload speed and leas than 5GB of music... It would take forever otherwise...

Well I have about 3,000 something songs so I guess that option is clearly out of the question now lol. I guess its off to go get an external drive.

Yea I have over 9K songs, so I think an external usb drive would be out of my question too. I believe Mav answered this question a few pages back, I asked it.

By the way, I received an email saying mine was shipped also. I guess the 6th-8th were shipped this morning.

I too also received my shipping notice this morning. I ordered on the 6th. So I guess the HP reps were only semi-lying, since the tracking number is still not active. Hopefully they send out a huge amount today and everyone gets their laptops soon.

Keep us updated to all that shipped on when you get them and they type of shipping method you guys had. Thanks :)

ordered on the 5th and still nothing... furthermore I knwo when I get I will hate the battery life since it is the 3D version so I am thinking of ordering anew one without 3D... hp will have whole lot of 3D envy laptop in the refurbished department soon.

P.S. I called ATI and they confirmed that it is not switchable graphics card but it saves battery via hybrid tech and should be comparable to intel graphics

    we will see

The 750gb Hybrid HDD is a Seagate Momentus XT with 8gb of flash NAND.

I noticed that mine makes a clicking noise though. It's not very loud, but definitely noticeable, and happens once every few seconds. The clicking noise comes from the right hand side under the handrest, right where the hard drive bays are, so I'm pretty sure it's coming from the Hybrid hard drive. Is it just a loud drive in general, or should I be worried about potential failure?

Has anyone else with the 750gb hybrid drive noticed noise coming from the right hand corner (basically near the SD card slot)?

Can anybody sum up the current active coupons around for this thing? Thinking of pulling the trigger soon... If there's nothing good, I'll wait.

Also, can any coupon be combined with the Xbox 360 deal?

I also ordered mine with the msata and 2x 1tb hard drive. It has shipped and is scheduled to arrive this Friday 6/22. If it does not have switchable graphics then I will ship it back in a week or two. Hopefully I can use AMD CCC to switch to intel graphics. If it doesn't, then how am I supposed to use the WiDi?

I am so happy my Envy 17 will be here on the 22nd. I originally ordered the envy 17 3000 on May 10th, My 21 days were over but by sweet talking them, it got me the Envy 17 3200 with Ivy bridge, AMD 7850m, 8gb Ram DDR3 1600 for basically an extra $50... WOO...

If you mean the size for the left and right arrows being bigger than the up and down arrows, than no. The design remained the same. Here's a shot of my keyboard.

Believe me, I would have them send it to you if I could. To me there is no reason to upgrade to the ivy bridge processor if you cant use the 4000 graphics. I use dvdfab and I was looking forward to using intel sync with new integrated graphics. I have a WiDi receiver on my living room and bedroom television. Plus I don't want to use the amd graphics unless I'm playing a game. I need to be able to get 4 hours of battery life out of this. HP better be working on a solution!

Definitely have to agree on this. I am sure they will work on it once they realize the mess they created and the outcry from the consumer is bound to become much larger.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

If I understand this correctly, none of the 17in Envy 32xx models allow the user to switch back and forth between the integrated graphics chip and the dedicated graphics chip via bios, correct?

The 17in Envy 32xx 3D does not allow graphics switching via the Catalyst Control software, correct?

The 17in Envy 32xx non-3D does allow graphics switch via the catalyst control center, correct?

For the SWITCHABLE GRAPHICS Issue : For those who would like to discuss the switchable graphics issue can check this thread below so that those who are already receiving their units can confirm/report things about the battery life and hybrid graphics or if switchable graphics can be made available with a software or BIOS update.Thanks.

I can confirm that the non-3D model definitely allows you to switch graphics. I have it set up to show a pop-up for any unassigned applications, so the first time I finish running a game, I can tell the graphics card to run it with the Radeon 7850m or Intel 4000 from that point forward.

You just right click on the desktop, and go to "Configure Switchable Graphics" to see this interface.

    http://i.imgur.com/iMFiH.png

Seems like only the 3D display model is having trouble with switchable graphics.

thanks for the info gnat_ .Can please do us another favour? Can you please check and confirm whether both the Intel HD and AMD show up under Display Adapters in the Device Manager and post a screenshot of that if you can? Kinda confused with hybrid power saving profile thing of the radeon 7850M and specially coz the AMD website mentions it as not supporting the switchable graphics and having Hybrid Power saving profile built-in instead. Also how much battery life are you getting out of it?

Can someone here do a run of 3DMark Vantage Performance Preset?

I would like to see how the 7850M compares to the GT 650M 2 GB GDDR5 in performance. Notebookcheck.net has zero details on the 7850M.

Yes, both the Radeon 7850m and the Intel 4000 show up as separate display adapters in the non-3D Envy 17. Here's a screenshot as requested.

    http://i.imgur.com/8NdV8.png

As for battery life, I don't know. I haven't run it down on battery power yet. My usage of the laptop has primarily been as a desktop replacement, so I don't take it off the plug very often. At 100% power, when I unplug it, the Windows Mobility Center says I have 4h32m left, but I wouldn't consider that estimate reliable. Maybe someone else can help?

I had the Envy 17 3D 32xx version (I was the one who originally discovered the lack of graphic switching) and it only had the AMD card listed in the device manager under display adapters. I'd provide a screenshot but that laptop is well on its way back to HP for a full refund. I couldn't even make it though a DVD on battery power.

You might've answered this, but I couldn't find it using Google to search, what software did you use to OC?

I used Afterburner. The only problem I had was I couldn't find any software that would display the GPU temps, which is kind of dangerous when dealing with an OC'ed laptop GPU. Just make sure you enable the unofficial overclocking mode. See this thread for information: HOW TO: Enable UNOFFICIAL overclocking mode in MSI AfterBurner - Guru3D.com Forums
