    Afterburner is showing the 7850m temps for me. I'm using the 12.6 beta drivers.

    Here you go:
    AMD Radeon HD 7850M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3610QM Processor,Hewlett-Packard 1853 score: P10517 3DMarks

    [IMG]

    Not quite 660M on this benchmark but better than the 650m by a good margin.

    Edit: Forgot to mention 12.6 beta drivers at stock speeds. I don't plan on OC'ing just yet.

    My Envy is shipping early!! Ordered around the 10th, shipping date was originally 26th but just recieved an email saying it is now ready to ship!

    I had the 3610qm and 750GB hybrid drive, ordered when 8GB ram and WiDi were standard config.

    No, you can never combine codes or combine Xbox

    Best deal right now is:

    $450 off code Nbj9867
    7% off pretax total price including warranty upgrade if you choose it using mrrebates.com (yes it works)
    If u have a AMEX A OPEN CARD 10% off total pretax amount
    Other credit card discount such as Amex - additional 1% or ur card (AMEX AOPEN gives you total of 11% off)
    Amex and possibly others adds 1 year to whatever warranty version you choose.

    That's the best I know of

    so guys battery life is important to me and I bough the 3D version already is there anyway to reduce the battery usage on the 3D to the level of non 3D so the battery lasts the same..

    I never play video games and did not buy this laptop for the graphic card.

    @Maverick777..Those are good scores..not quite GTX 660M but almost there.with the same processor and GTX 660M the Asus G55V manages 11492.So I would say pretty good. :)

    I doubt it unless they fix the switching. The 3d screen is 400 nits vs non 3d at 300 nits so you could turn down the brightnes. The 3D sceen is 120 mhz. You could achieve some battery savings running off a SSD instead of HD. By default the Intel 4000 uses less watts, runs cooler so the second fan does not run or run as much, so there is no way I can see that you could achieve non-3D levels. Depending on what you do with your Envy perhaps you may want to exchange it. Someone here however did report getting close to 5 hours surfing only so I'd give it a try using your use habits and see what you think. I would like to hear your results.

    You could possibly underclock the graphics card to reduce the power sipped, but I don't think there is any way of getting the same kind of battery life w/o a bios hack (unlikely) or a fix from HP (somewhat unlikely as well, considering other recent 3D enabled laptops have the same problem).

    If battery life is really important to you, I'd say just exchange for a non-3D model. What would you be needing the 3D for anyways if you're aiming to carry the laptop around so much, if I may ask?

    Curiosity got the best of me and I installed MSI Afterburner. However, it's not letting me change anything. It detects the 7850m.

    I unlocked overclocking by editing the cfg file in the installation folder as well as in the profile folder.

    Any ideas?

    Why is the CPU score so low? I've seen it double that with the same CPU. Is the laptop just not set in performance mode, or is the CPU's turbo mode disabled or something?

    Hi Everyone,

    Can anyone kindly recommend a phone # or email address, that will get me to HP mangement in the United States ? I'd love to get a real status on my order, but that has been impossible, as I'm always routed to foreign call centers.

    Is there anyone else out there, that ordered their Envy on the 4th, that's also in order limbo ? :) . Any assistance is much appreciated.

    Thanks very much !

    Hey Stocksman. I also ordered on the 4th... as of the 18th, my order still said "Estimated shipping date: June 13th". This was after multiple calls/ emails each day from 6/13 to the 18th.

    You cannot believe the aggravation of going through every HP employee in India trying to get a simple update. I finally put in for a cancellation, which they also could not get an update on for 3 days... After lots of angry calls, emails, and chats, I finally got the order officially cancelled and a statement that my business card will be credited within 5-7 days.

    Sad thing is, I've bought 6 laptops from HP in the past (along with 4 servers and multiple peripherals) and because their terrible customer service (including 2 reps who outright lied to me), they have lost me for good now. I have an archive of all the BS answers they gave me during the process in Outlook.

    Also, this is what I had on order before the cancellation. Maybe you can find some correlation between my order and your to figure out what the holdup was for us vs. the people who ordered on the 6th, 7th, 8th, etc... and already received them. I think orders on the 4th, just went into some HO black hole:

    i will have to agree with the others and say return it.

    i had the same problem with a dell xps 17 3d. i managed to get some improvements by changing the advanced power settings to maximum power savings. also turning off things like wifi when not needed, brightness way down, etc.

    but in the end, it was not enough for me.

    3d = poor battery life.

    if you reorder then envy 17, you should step down to the 2d model and maybe the i5 processor. and maybe even go with a 15.6" model instead.

    So, I will be receiving my envy shortly but I'm abroad for a month or so, which means my dad will keep it for me. What should I have him check to be sure that it's all right and doesn't have anything that needs a RMA?

    I was thinking:

    -keyboard flex and noise
    -HDD but not really sure how.. maybe using ATTO?
    -3d mark (I'll probably need to TeamViewer in and do it myself though)
    -Screen (again, not totally sure how)
    -Switchable graphics

    Anything else?? Suggestions are warmly welcomed!

    Estimated ship date: June 27, 2012
    Shipped 6/20/2012 @ 6:45am
    ======
    Mine was ordered on 6/11 & shipped on 6/20 (originally projected for 6/27). My thought is that maybe your order got hosed because they were in a transition state with multiple lines of the same items and hit a glitch or something. Maybe some of the parts were from the earlier envy 17 & they just don't have them or aren't working properly but my gut, as a sw engineer, is there is a glitch...

    Just in case it is hardware or other parts, the main differences between our that jumped out to me are:
    - You ordered Win7Pro & I ordred Win7Ultimate;
    - You ordered 3820 & I ordered 3720 cpu;
    - You ordered 12GB & I ordered 16GB ram;
    - You ordered 160GBssd + 750hybrid & I ordered 750hybrid (I have an msata & dataplex cache SSD en route separately).
    - You ordered 2D & I ordered 3D;
    - You ordered DVD & I ordered Blu-Ray reader

    Yeah, there is definitely a glitch. What upset me the most was how useless and robotic the HP reps were. They all apologized up and down for the issue, but could not explain it, could not offer any work arounds, and each and every one of them used the term "Rest assured IGetIT, you're order will be shipped out on time" They fed that line to me even after the 13th had come and gone...

    They also basically called the people on NBR who had ordered similar Envy 17's after me and received them already liars. I had asked why items ordered well after mine were being shipped (Some had the same drive combo I ordered, some had the same chips, so I assume the parts are all there, etc) and they said they work on a first come-first serve basis and orders received after mine could not possibly be shipped first.

    They said there was no way for them verify that these people weren't making it up without order numbers.

    Anyway, I finally made them process my cancellation and should be credited by early next week.

    I thought the hold up was with any order that had 1333 ram. Has anyone received an Envy who odered the 1333 ram? If so did the get 1333 or 1600?

    Very sorry you had to cancel. The search for the right laptop can be painful at times. I am sad to hear about the 3D version not being able to leverage the intel 4000 to sip power. That being said I am connected to AC the vast majority of the time and have an AC inverter for the car & plane so this is not a total deal breaker for me. I do want to play with the 3D some and get a taste for it but likely I won't be using it all that much... My hope is the faster refresh of the 2D screen will help my eye strain (my job and hobbies both have me on the PC quite a bit) & I want to see if I can get & detect any difference over 60FPS on my MMOs. From a work perspective, aside from the faster screen refresh, I like that the envy 17 has 2 extra drive slots (msata & a sata) so I can test multiple drive configs for my work including:
    - 7200rpm drive by itself;
    - 7200rpm hybrid drive (8gb SSD);
    - HDD with DataPlex cache SSD (Crucial M4based Adrenaline);
    - HDD with Intel SRT cache SSD (msata);
    - HDD with mounted SSD for games & key programs;
    - FancyCache RAM cache...

    All in all I was going to do this on an Alienware r4 17 3D and this is saving me a ton and looks more business like in the office... I think the Alienware went to 32GB RAM but 16GB should still be enough to test FancyCache...

    Ha.. Nodozen. I ended up going the other way. I ended up switching over to the m17x R4 instead. I figure as long as I turn off all the silly lights, she'll be just fine in the office (I'm getting the black case). I'm a developer, so my clients are more concerned with my production than what my laptop looks like. I want the highest level of performance possible, and the room for a virtual Win2k8 Server and am hoping the R4 delivers.

    It will be my first Dell since 1998. I've been an almost straight HP buyer since then with 6 HP laptops, 2 HP desktops, a couple all in 1 HP printers, and a couple SmartSave backup devices. One Gateway FX and one Toshiba POS thrown in over the years are the only non-HP laptops.

    Thank you VERY much for the info. My configuration is nearly identical to yours, other than I ordered Windows Home, and the 3610 base processor. That cannot be the issue, as plenty of others ordered the 3610, and have recieved their Envys.

    Yet, I ordered on the 4th, and there's no sign of my Envy. Clearly, there's a big screw-up at HP. If anyone has a phone number for US customer service or resolutions dept. I'd appreciate it. Thanks again !

    Hello -

    I ordered with 1600 ram, and others have received their Envys. I appreciate your input, but I doubt that's the issue.

    I'm starting to wonder if they simply "lost" a bunch of orders placed on the 4th. So much for their technology LOL.

    My buddy went with the 18" Alienware SLI with 3xSSD RAID0 in April/May and it is really great. The 17" r4 should also be really strong and personally I like the red keyboard lights as it doesn't mess with my night vision when the screen darkens (usually my laptop is always on with the screen darkened when not in use)... I think you will be happy... I have blades and desktops for truly heavy lifting so the 32 gb isn't a deal breaker for me... BTW, did you get the 3D or the 2D 17" ?

    Hi Igetit -

    Sorry you had to cancel. What you described, is virtually identical to my experience with HP. How they've handled this, and their lack of anyone being able to get to the root of the problem... is beyond pathetic. I'm trying to hold out, but my patience is wearing very thin. If I'm unable to get a definitive answer over the next few days, I may give up also.

    I think Dell has some new 17" XPS's coming out soon, and I'm researching that option, as a back-up plan.

    That sounds good. I'm going straight 2D (1920x). I'm not a gamer so I think the GTX660 is all the GPU I'll need. I simply need speed. I'm ordering the base m17x with the following upgrades only:
    1- i7 3820QM
    2- 750GB HDD
    3- Killer wireless
    4- 1920x1080 2d screen

    Once I get it. The HDD will be replaced with a 256 GB SSD. Win 7 Pro will go on the SSD. 750 GB factory drive will be wiped and partitioned (storage and virtual). The RAM will be upgraded to either 16, 24, or 32GB...

    My only issue is, when I received the cancellation notice from HP, I clicked on the "Survey: how did we do" link and it gives me a blank screen with this at the top: " Your order is shipped. The order status is currently being updated. Please try again in few minutes. Sorry for the inconvenience."

    I called them and they said to ignore it and that my order was cancelled. Weird that the only correspondence I received from HP with the word "Shipped" on it was my cancellation notice .. LOL. So I'm waiting to make sure they fully process the refund before I order the m17x. Hopefully by the end of the week.

    Has anyone made and gaming videos on the Envy 17 yet? I would love to see them. I don't even care what game any game would be great.

    My Envy is still sitting in Shanghai and has been for the last 48 hours. My estimated delivery date is Friday buy I have my doubts. Does Fed Ex deliver on Saturdays or will I have to wait till Monday if it doesn't show up on Friday.

    Anyways I just want my laptop I'm getting sic of using my wife's DV6.

    Yeah, I was bummed. I had used the 33% coupon and everything, so it was a good deal. I stuck it through a ton of calls, chats, and emails, but just got fed up with the corporate "machine" and the "Rest assured" responses. Anyway, hopefully yours will ship soon. Good luck with it.

    If you ordeded a 3D model the graphics will not switch so don't worry about that. Most probably the 3d mark will be fine so I wouldn't worry about that. I would have your pop visually inspect it obviously. Also make sure what you ordered (ram, hd, dvd/blueray,et.) is what you got.

    Then before you leave you can download from Passmark their burn in test software. They have a 30 day trial period and it works very well. I would download it to a flash drive. Then I would go ahead and install it on a machine you have now, while showing your pop how to do it, and then show him how to run it. The program is very straight forward and can be run by most anyone (especially if you give him a tutorial before hand). You can stress everything from RAM, HD, CD, et. A few things you won't be able to do is test the USB without a loopback but for the most part this will check the majority of the machine if you are not there and there is not someone computer literate around. I have used the software for years now and it is helpful in identifying intermittent and failing hardware before it totally goes. Just uninstall after the program expires. There is a 32 and 64 bit version, and a pro and standard version. For your purposes do not bother with the pro version and make sure you select the appropriate bit version. If you are already gone and are still able to commuunicate with him you could walk him through it, the same way, by installing at your current location as he does it to the Envy. Here is the link, just click on the green download button, select what you want, and go. You do not have to pay as it will run for the 30 day trial. Enjoy --

    I was just unsure that is why I was asking if anyone who ordered the 1333 ram, as this is not an available option a few days later after the site went live, had actually recieved their Envy yet. Sorry you guys are in limbo and getting hosed.

    If your config matches or is close to a quick ship config you may want to consider calling and having them switch you. If you have the config number of the same or even an upgraded version and call and explain the situation they may be willing to ship you something that is onhand. Very sorry to hear of your issues.

    OK. Figured it out. It's because Physx is enabled. When Physx is enabled with Nvidia cards, it throws off the CPU score because the GPU is also doing calculations. Not just the CPU.

    That should be really good. Note that in Win7 you should be able to mount the 2nd HDD as both a folder on your SSD C drive as well as a second drive for the best of both worlds... I almost ordered a 17"r4 with similar specs but wanted the 3D screen for 2D at 120hz refresh as I am on the computer all the time and suffer from eye fatique... I am a gamer (mainly MMOs & Diablo) and would have upgraded to that AMD gpu as it is extremely fast but unfortunately Alienware wouldn't support 3D screens with that fast AMD gpu as their 3D tech is Nvidia based... As a value shopper I hated to pay so much for their top Nvidia GPU as it was so over priced and preformed less than their AMD (but supported 3D) so I was very torn...

    In the end the HP won out because of:
    - The lower starting price for like-like config before huge cost savings (33%hp +7%MrRebates +10%AmexOpen +1%AmExCashBack (or 5%AmExCashBack depending on how my AmEx Open Business card classifies HP));
    - The lighter weight of the laptop & the power supply (I am mostly plugged in but do go into the office some & drive the family on vacations & lug my laptop everywhere);
    - The AMD gpu verses Nvidia as I root for the underdog and like to use AMD where/when I can;

    I would be happy with either as my main goal from a business side of things was the 120hz screen without breaking the bank as my eye strain is very important as well as being able to test the HDD vs Hybrid-HDD/SSD, vs DataPlex_cache_SSD, vs SRT_cache_SSD, vs HDD with SSD mountpoint vs straight SSD...

    Mine has been sitting in Shanghai since Monday...interested in seeing if they're really gonna deliver on Friday by 4:30pm like it says.

    So I'm on the phone with Fedex right now and they're saying mine is part of a consolidated shipment of about 170 items, delayed in Shanghai due to there not being any space on the flight. It also missed the flight on Tuesday for the same reason. They said it might still be able to be delivered on Friday though. Keep your fingers crossed...mine definitely are.

    Unless you have tons of Blu-ray movies to watch, I wouldn't pay the extra money for it.

    Here and there I see people mention that they have 1866MHz RAM-- is there any advantage to this at all in the new Envy 17, or does it just run at 1600?

    So long as its PNP it will run at 1866. You won't notice any difference in regular tasks, but it does help in benchmarks.
