If it's an Intel SSD, use the migration tool they provide on their website. It'll move everything, and properly align the SSD.

Just a quick update, guys. It has Departed the FedEx location in Anchorage. We'll see where it ends up tomorrow. My ETA was tomorrow, but I highly doubt it because I remember reading somewhere on the hp site to add one day to the ETA. Whatever, Im just keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that nothing is wrong with it when it finally arrives.

    Update on the 3D version.

The quick Ship version of the Envy 17 3D still says its has switchable graphics..Is it True..? Can anyone who has ordered the Quick ship version verify this ?

Why would they have the Switchable Graphics on the quick ship version and not the CTO version ?

Now HP is pissing me off and I am sure others too.
Is the HP management retarded or what..?

    Yeah I said that.

No, the quick ship 3d does not have switchable graphics. They have just not updated the page. The CTO order page said the same thing tell everyone started complaining.

How HP could put a 5400 rpm hard drive in a top of the line Envy laptop makes no sense to me. Even the previous model had a 7200 rpm hard drive. I realize the 3290nr also has a SSD drive, so maybe that's logical ? Can anyone shed some light on why a 5400 rpm drive might make sense ? Wouldn't it slow the system in some way ? Thanks !

Yeah ...they changed it on the CTO order page. That was reason I ordered for all the features it provided including 3D !!

What a way to rip off unassuming people.

And this is very poor for a Multi-National company who sells computers all over the world.

How can they not have a correct product description ??

    Post problem

To my knowledge there are only one or two readily available 7200 rpm 1 TB laptop HD's and they cost not quite 3 times as much. HP is probably tring to keep the price point down and they may not be able to get a deal with Seagate. As to speed, it will depend on your ram, what you are doing, what's on your SSD. HP puts the OS on the SSD, and depending on what you install on the SSD and the above your decrease in speed will vary.

For everyone who has a delayed ship date of 7/6 I just ended a chat with HP. My question was since I already recieved my Extended service plan and the laptop was / is so late when does my regular and extended warranty begin? I further asked if my 21 day return period for the extended service contract begins when the unit arrives. Rep said everything begins when unit is recieved. She also said all the delayed units expected to ship 7/6 will ship 6/28 (later today). I will believe it when I get a tracking #.

This is because the quick ship uses the old Intel 2nd Gen Sandy Bridge technology were the CTO uses the new 3rd Gen Ivy Bridge which was released without all the patches and fixes.

Might want to check out Intel's site then:

    Intel Processor Specifications

HP's site is full of stories at the current moment. The i7-3610QM has and will always be tagged as a 2nd Generation Processor

I'm just trying to shed some light, no hard feelings.

Well my Envy 17t-3200 3D Intel 3rd Gen i7-3820 shipped with switchable graphics as stated on my receipt and at the current moment the bios and amd software cannot activate the i7 chips HD 4000 graphics. I'm just saying that I don't believe HP's stats/facts/data sheets at this current time.

It doesn't matter if HP has incorrect info at times, the 3610qm is known to be Ivy Bridge, HD4000 is Ivy Bridge IGP. Checking the processor information directly from the processor denotes it as Ivy Bridge.

Screw ups aren't solely the realm of HP. Look at the disastrous Sandy Bridge release.

Both HP website and data sheet say it is the 3rd generation Core i7-3610QM..of 22nm architecture..the Ivy Bridge...all Ivy processor numbers start with 3xxx and Sandy starts with 2xxx.

Also data sheet 1gb radeon HD 7850M with total memory of 5093mb which implies it has switchable graphics with the Intel shared graphics Memory.. :-/

I retract my statement to you both per:
    Compare Intel® Products

However, I have no faith in the switchable graphics until someone who has this model has tested it. My graphics card is the same and is SUPPPOSED to support it. Here is a copy of my order receipt:

Guys, since the Envy's battery is not removable, is there any chance I can replace it myself when it dies after 2-3 years or I'll have to send the notebook to HP?

In case there is a possibility I can do it myself, where can I buy a new battery?

The battery is removable with the correct tool; however, it is considered integrated and voids all warranty's if removed per HP.

Well not that i really expected more from them .. I sent an email asking about my order that should have shipped yesterday and this is what i got. Pretty much everything i already knew.

    Dear David,

Thank you for contacting the HP Home & Home Office Store.

I am sorry for any inconvenience that this may have caused you.

I've received a great deal of positive feedback regarding this model's features and capabilities. Your computer is being built to your specifications and will then undergo rigorous testing. This will require a few days.

Upon completion, it will be shipped via FedEx 5-7 Business Days ( Ground), the shipping method chosen at the time of purchase. When the computer is shipped, you will receive an email containing a tracking number and the order information in the order status section of our website will be updated with the same information.

For this order, there are currently no reports for delays. The update on shipping status will be done by FedEx once the specially customized order starts to ship. Our efforts here are being doubled in relation to your order, as we understand that your order needs utmost attention.

Keep in mind as well that the estimated build date of your system is an estimate only. Please check your email within 24 hours for the notification.

I hope this information has been of assistance to you. Please reply to this message if there is anything else we can do. For your convenience, you may also call the HP Home & Home Office Sales Center directly at 1-888-222-0029, select Option 2, then Option 5, between 7:00 AM - 2:00 AM EST, seven days a week.

Once again, my sincere apology for all the inconvenience. I hope that you will continue to choose HP for your product and support needs.

Depends on what you chose to carry it in I guess. For me it's not that bad as I'm coming from the old dv8t quad with the 18.4" screen lol. That thing was a BRICK! I don't think it's something you'd want to have slung over your shoulder all day long though.
