    You did a pretty good job.

    I didn't realize there was so much wrong with your laptop though lol. I had one bulging part by the same USB port on the left of my Envy17 and I got it exchanged.

    You sir are correct. FedEx's website delivery estimate has me receiving my envy 7/5. HP granted me free two day shipping so I called FedEx to find out who was giving me the shaft, them or HP. Turns out some details about my shipping address screwed with their estimation and I should actually be receiving the computer come Monday 7/2 which still sucks all things considered. Insult to injury, they actually did miss the cutoff which contributed to the delay. Side note, it looks like HP decided to ship a huge amount of laptops today, everyone seems to be receiving shipping notifications which is great news finally!

    Hi Everyone,

    I wanted to follow up and say that I received my shipping notice today as well. For the first time since placing my order, I was pleasantly surprised, as I had resigned myself to not seeing the Envy before Mid-July at the earliest. I requested upgraded shipping earlier this week, and was told it would be applied. Doesn't seem to be the case. It also says that I missed today's shipping deadline. If all goes well, I should have it on the 5th. At least many of us made good progress today.

    Congrats to all who received the good news !

    Either that or some one accidentally changed the status to 'ship' on everyone's orders... :) We'll see what kind of rush job they did putting them all together and shipping at once.

    How did you get upgraded to two day shipping? I asked HP but didn't get.

    I'm just happy to finally have shipping #. Gives me hope that I didn't spend a nice chunk on of change on nothing.

    Woohoo! After 24 days of waiting my Envy 17 3D arrived! And even more surprising, the box wasn't damaged, the laptop itself doesn't appear damaged, and it's been running for about 4 hours without catching fire or breaking down.

    But seriously, what blows me away is how easy my upgrade was. In less than an hour I moved 100% from my old laptop to my new one, keeping all my installed apps and data! I took my two hard drives out of my 1st generation (2 year old) Envy 17 3-D and put them in my new 3rd generation Envy 17 3-D and booted it up. I went through my checklist to install all the 3rd generation specific drivers and software, and that was that. I didn't have a single issue. Everything just worked. I did not expect the process to be so easy. Last time I tried such a thing was years ago and I was able to do it, but it was a little more involved (with blue screens, system instability, etc.).

    If you clonezilla your shipped hard drive with the recovery partition and then burn the 1 time only recovery DVDs, can you restore from clonezilla and re-burn the DVDs?

    I want to burn the DVDs but don't like the idea of only being able to get one set and wanted know if there was anyway around this.

    If not can you copy or make ISO images of the DVDs?

    i've ordered from HP before, and it seems their shipments from shanghai always misses the fedex cutoff time for that day.

    not to be a downer, but the last time HP shipped a huge amount of laptops, several orders didn't make the flight until a day or two later.

    lets hope Fedex treats us better than HP.

    on the other hand, i believe HP (unlike Dell) does include saturday deliveries. so anything can happen.

    Been messing with mine for the past couple of days. Nice little upgrade from my old Envy 17 1xxx.

    Nice frames in TF2, Deus Ex HR, Skyrim and pretty much everything else, all with a nice res bump. No more heated palm rest too! Love the new backlit keys and keyboard action. The speakers are loud as hell. Will be buying an SSD soon.

    I wasn't impressed by either FedEx or HP... They supposedly "shipped it" on Jun 20, 2012 10:53 PM and it arrived here in Texas on Jun 28, 2012 12:53 PM for over 7 full days... Of note:

    "Jun 20, 2012 10:53 PM Picked up SHANGHAI CN Package received after FedEx cutoff";
    Jun 23, 2012 5:18 PMIn transit SHANGHAI CN " Cutoff or not it took almost 3 full days for FedEx to actually ship it (both HP & FedEx at Fault)...";

    Jun 24, 2012 11:59 AM Arrived at FedEx location ANCHORAGE, AK;
    Jun 25, 2012 7:36 PM Clearance delay - Import ANCHORAGE, AK;
    Jun 26, 2012 5:08 PM In transit ANCHORAGE, AK; (2.25 days for FedEx to get it moving again (carrier responsibility))... ;

    Yeah, it's crazy that this (with the chipset and CPU) is more than twice the speed of the Envy 1xxx. And with my new SSD as well it feels a lot faster than that. Definitely a nice upgrade.

    Wait... TF2 is feeling a little sluggish. I'm running it at 1080p with everything on highest, shadows at medium. 4x AA and AF. Getting just under 30fps. Something doesn't feel right. What's going wrong? I went to configure switchable graphics, and hl2.exe is set to high performance automatically...

    Turned it off, and lowered the Res to what my old envy ran it at. I consistently got just under 60 (50-60) with my old Envy with the same settings. I'm now getting just over 30. Something has got to be wrong... Honestly I'm convinced that it's still using the intel 4000.

    Is your power plan set to high performance? Check the settings in catalyst for the performance settings too, not the switchable graphics but the actual card performance.

    yeah, hl2.exe (tf2) is at high performance. It was like that automatically. Don't know what the problem is. These frames I'm getting are very typical of what I'd expect from the 4000.

    Yeah it is. I disabled Power Play too.

    I have heard that this is an issue with D3 and not necessarily people's computers. It lags when loading new areas or after using a spell you haven't used yet for the first time in a game.

    Here's the 3D Mark 11. Unbelievable. It's set to High Performance in Catalyst. It's got to be utilizing the 4000 somehow.

    Was expecting at least 2500. What could be the problem? I noticed that it's reporting my clocks for the 7850 @ 300 core, 150 memory. What gives?

    It might have not taken properly, try monitoring the clock speeds when benchmarking it. It might have gone with an underclock rather than overclock.

    Here you go. Worked like a charm for me when my originals got scratched (Defective drive - being replaced). No need for Clonezilla. You have to go under folder options and see hidden files and protected system files. Do this at your own risk, etc etc.

    +1 REP to you... Very good to know. I am CloneZilla'ing regardless because I plan to move the hybrid drive around alot and test all the slots (msata, slot 1, & slot 2) plus I want to test Intel SRT & DataPlex and any/all of those may have issues. In the end I suspect/hope to end up with 64GB of my 128GB SSD as SRT & the remaining 64GB mounted as a folder on my C drive that install my favorite games to.

    Currently running a clonezilla of the full drive 750GB drive as delivered & then plan to do each of the 4 partitions separately...

    After clone-zilla'ing the hell out of things I started it and watched the intro & first scenes of the 3D Blue Ray of Green Lantern and there is only one word I can think of to say:

    UnBelievablyFriggenIncredible...

    Also, is the installed version of Norton really free for ~2 years (731 days) or is this a gimic/catch ?

    Normally I have just been installing/taking the free MS Security Essentials & Malwarebytes and uninstalling any trial ware but if this really is good for 2 years I may try to use it... It it is going to charge me monthly then I would rather just uninstall it...

    Avast! (free) and MBAM Pro for me,,,I as well like to use OnLine Armor Firewall (free).

    If you run an AV or Firewall program other than a Windows program, use an UNINSTALLER, the remnants can cause all sorts of unpredictable behavior and problems.

    and the Toshiba still looks good.Maybe just replace the Battery and clean the Vents.

    And thats an advice to all of you out here.Some of you already know this.for those who dont,clean your air vents with a Compressed Air Duster evry couple months atleast or every month if you smoke near the laptop coz that will prevent dust blocking the vents and causing high temperatures and random shut downs in the future More life to the Laptops.My G73 after 1 n half yrs still doesnt go over 78 deg core temps on both CPU and GPU even after 4hrs of Gaming.Hope Envy will be as Good if not better.Keeping my Fingers crossed.

    Glad I found this forum! I'm the somewhat proud owner of a new HP Envy 17 -- the non 3D version. I read tons of complaints regarding people with the 3D version not having access to the Intel 4000 graphics however I'm having the exact opposite problem with my system, as I can't seem to get the Radeon graphics to work on my non-3D system.

    When you go to ATI Catalyst in the tray icons, are you able to select the Radeon card, or does only the Intel 4000 chipset appear?

    The bios has no way of forcing the system to use the Radeon graphics? I've tried running PassMark on my system and the 3D tests ALL use the Intel 4000 graphics. I've even added in the PM software into the switchable option (see it to high performance) but this doens't help either.

    HELP! Anyone know a way to disable the Intel graphics? Oh, and I've tried disabling them in the device manager, rebooting, etc. Also deleteing the ATI drivers and resintalling them, even for the desktop version. Nothing seems to work.

    Let me find a Laptop with a Radeon card then I will try to help you.Dont have my ENVY yet.

    Glad you mentioned that.There was no review about the 3D.And the previous generation wasnt as good as NVIDIA's.So I think this would be much better and match my G73 :)

    @Knight 2000..I found a Sony lying around with Radeon and switchable graphics.I can try to guide u from that one.Do u wanna give it a try..?

    SWITCHABLE GRAPHICS ACTIVATION of the RADEON.

    Those who cannot activate the Radeon may try this.

    Okay.I dont have my Envy yet.But I got a Sony around with Radeon and Switchable Graphics.So let me try to help you.

    > PLug in the AC adapter
    > Right click on desktop and select "Catalyst control Center"
    > Under Power click the "Switchable Graphics Method"
    > click to select "Select Graphics processor manually or Based on power
    source"
    > Click Apply and close the Catalyst control center
    > Right Click on dektop and Select "Configure Switchable Graphics"
    > Check under "Switchable Graphics Status" there is "Current active Graphics
    Processing Unit". This tells u which processor is activated.
    The Intel will have a Intel sign and would read "Power-Saving GPU"
    and the Radeon will read "High Performance GPU".

    > If it says Power-Saving GPU then go below
    > Click to select the check box saying "Automatically select the
    Power-saving GPU when on battery and click Apply.
    > Below that there will be "Choose a Graphics Processing Unit"
    > Click on the "High-Performance GPU"
    > There will be a Pop-up saying "Do you want to change the Graphics
    Processor"
    > Click "Change"
    > The screen will go blank and flicker a bit.That is Normal.Give it some time.
    > Once the switch is over then check under "Currently active Graphics
    Processing Unit" if it says now "High-Performance GPU"
    > If it says so then Congrats the Radeon has been Activated.
    > If u unplug then it will go back to the Power-Saving GPU while on battery.

    Please check and let me know if this works and add a Rep if possible.Thanks :)

    Hi everyone, I'm planning on buying HP ENVY 17-3270nr but there are several things that I'd like to know as they are unavailable anywhere:

    1. What's your battery life in surf mode?
    2. How does this graphics card compare with gt660m? better/worse? I red that there are no official drivers yet - I'm not a very technical person, so how difficult for me will it be to set up everything to play WItcher 2 and Diablo III smoothly?
    3. Overally, how satisfied are you with the purchase?

    Thanks a bunch!

    Thanks for trying to be so helpful even though you don't have your envy yet...

    Regarding the 3D, while I am impressed, this is my first venture into 3D so I don't have any frame of reference to compare to other implementations... After you get yours I would like to get your thoughts compared to the Nvidia 3D on your G73 as well as your thoughts of the matte vs reflective screen... In the end I guess you can put a matte protective cover over a reflective screen if it bothers you and not vice versa but curious none the less...

    For me, I honestly look at the 3D as a bonus as I really just wanted to try the 120hz monitor to lessen eye strain and for 2D gaming.
