The mod team had to do some cleanup in this thread and not for the first time. If you cannot keep things civil and avoid foul language, we'll be forced to close this thread.

Anyone having issues with the wireless? I can't seem to get my download speeds any higher than 10mbps. I've updated the drivers made sure all the settings were correct, and the connection reads 144mbps. Tried out my other laptop with the same wireless card (intel 6235) and it gets the max out of my internet connection which is 30mbps down and 5 up. I'm thinking the wireless card may be defective.

Before I call to return the Envy 17 3D I have a quick question. Is the 120hz screen going to make any difference what so ever in terms of everyday viewing of say youtube videos or sports videos recorded in 1080???

No. There are no YouTube videos that broadcast over 60 fps.

Seriously though, you will never see a difference in 60Hz UNDER a 32" screen size.
OVER 32" screen size, welllll, 120Hz+ for the distance the picture has to move, you will notice the difference.
    17.4" lappy @ 720P 60Hz will look just as good as a 1080P 120Hz (600Hz preferred) 55"+ TV,,,,,,
    IMHO

That's a whole another discussion which belongs in the PC Monitor vs TV section.

TV "120 Hz"/"240 Hz" has nothing to do with actual input refresh rate. All it does is take a 24 Hz / 60 Hz input signal, and uses motion interpolation algorithms to "simulate" a smoother image.

And that "600 Hz" thing is just a marketing ploy used by manufacturers to market Plasma TVs to appear "better" than LCD TVs (including CCFL backlit and LED backlit TVs).

True 120 Hz PC monitors actually take 120 Hz input signals and actually displays them. These are usually advertised as "Active Shutter Stereo 3D LCD PC monitors", or something along those lines.
These monitors would display over 60 fps when say, gaming. Your traditional 60 Hz monitor would start "frame clipping" when your games render over 60 fps. This is one instance where you get the "tearing" effect.

    #EDIT:
If you want to have the TV motion interpolation effect on your PC monitor for playing MKVs and AVIs, this is possible. Check this out: http://www.svp-team.com/

Does anyone know what this error means. When I run CPU-Z I get an error message CPU-z Error 0x102 (258). I tried Uninstalling it but that didn't help. I ran CC Cleaner and cleaned up my Registry but that didn't help either. I don't know why it wont work. It was working fine a couple days ago. I got the latest version 1.60

Going through that whole PDF, no thanks. When you buy a Brand new TV do you go through the whole manual before you use it, I don't think so. I asked on this forum because they're are smart people on here who are nice enough to give you the answer...

I have to admit, I read that manual multiple times cover to cover before I even ordered my envy. Its a weird thing I do. Reading manuals for things i don't have, whether I'll buy them or not. It is just more convenient to ask here though, and faster if you don't know specific words to search for.

No need to get cocky or smug, we all start out somewhere. Lets all play nicely...

It seems that now days everyone wants the easy answers without looking it up, so what do they do, they sign-up for a forum and fill the forums posts with easily obtained answers to their questions.

Note: I love to lend and hand, I even have questions myself; however, lets stick to specific honestly good questions. This is a forum that I have respect for, not a tweet, or app.

Does anybody have the refreshed unit with 16MB 1600ghz ram installed? If so is it running at 1600 or did it step down? Only those who have 16MB 1600 please reply. Thanks for the help if you can reply with your own verified results & not speculation.

WOW I didn't know asking a question here was so wrong. I've never had a backlit keyboard, I don't know how to lower the brightness so that it doesn't hurt my eyes. I guess I know not to ask questions here since it gets people mad for having to answer them...

Yes, it is built into the unit & ports out the bottom of the unit. Make sure you have Beats on. If you are asking does it come with a standalone sub the answer is no.

Here's Game-play of me playing NBA 2K12 on the envy 17. All the setting were on High and FPS never dropped below 60. This game runs very smooth... I recommend it for everyone... Watch it in 1080p for the best experience...

Um Wheres the love? Geez Grow up.. If a question is asked that you feel is stupid or below you .. don't answer it. ... If someone answers your question with a less than helpful answer... Ignore them.. You two are going to get the thread locked.

anyways .. mine has not moved yet either!

If his/her question bothered you that much, you very easily could have refrained from responding. Let's not get so far out of line that we forget the point of this forum. If you don't want to answer the question that's fine but I can guarantee you that there are several others on this forum that are willing to type letters on a keyboard without pretending like they've been inconvenienced. If you feel that you're above this process maybe this forum isn't the right place for you.

Whoa, this is quickly becoming an all-out flame war.. let's all try and remember that the reason we're here is that we all share a common interest and like talking about it. No need to get heated up over small stuff!

So, my very humble suggestion would be: let's stop the OT once and forever and get back to the topic at hand: our new Envys!

I'll start: received mine a couple of days ago, but as I mentioned earlier I'll be away from home for a month or so, so my parents are taking good (I hope, lol) care of it. I'm kinda nervous that they might miss some flaw in the lappie that warrants an RMA, so I'm gonna have a looong call with my father to let him check that everything is in order. Might also Temviewer in and double-check a few thing myself... namely switchable graphics.

Btw I ordered the model with 1600mhz RAM (8GB) so I'd be happy to confirm the speed at which it's running as soon as I can. Stay tuned.

Try going to advanced power settings and make sure the wifi adapter is set to high performance for both battery and plugged in.

If that doesn't work try disabling Bluetooth.

For the guys wondering about shipments from the 28th notice, I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I've seen my envy move through China, Japan, Alaska, Tennessee, and depart towards NYC where I live, the last update I received was yesterday around 5pm so it should already be here at a FedEx facility somewhere. Delivery tomorrow? I'm hopeful.

I got shipping notice about 24 hours ago, but my tracking number isn't working yet.. what's going on? This never happened with my previous 3 orders of dv6t.

EDIT: Never mind, I used Yahoo FedEx tracking and it shows that it was picked up in Shanghai. Estimated delivery.. on Friday?! Even with independence day delay, I think that's still too late for 2 day shipping but oh well.

Tried both and no luck. Maybe it's a bad card. I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers countless times, even the drivers direct from Intel. I'll swap it out with the one from my Sager and see if that changes anything.

I think I'll be sending mine back for a replacement anyway. I just noticed a very thick red line extending from the top to the bottom of the screen. You only notice it during black screens, but while watching movies it gets quite annoying. Anyone else notice this?

Definitely call them or they may not process the refund in a timely manner. I had to contact them to get mine processed right away. It's seems there's no flag that pops up or anything like that to let them know when to process these refunds.

Wow! I don't even like basketball or basketball video games and that was amazing. I hadn't realized they put so much detail into the court-side actors and spectators, very impressive.

What did you use to do the screen capture?
