They're an amazing logistics machine! I'll have to add an extra travel day between Newark and DC assuming that's my nearest hub. Today marks a full month since I ordered so it'd be nice if it touches U.S. soil tomorrow.

Your questions are too vague. Could you give us some details? What are the temperatures? What programs are bringing up the heat?

I got the free ground shipping.

I was really surprised how fast it got from Alaska to delivery, I thought for sure I would have to wait another day.

I know everyones abilities to converse are different .. But i have tried to help him a few different times. I struggle between thinking he just trolls here and there or he's 10 years old. I wish i could really help him but at this point i have given up.

I think he's just someone that doesn't really know much about computers. I've seen several posts from him asking the same question. I really don't think he's trolling though...

Are you using it on your lap or on a couch or bed? The bottom needs to have air get to it so the fan can cool it. If you are using it on one of the above put it on a table. Best guess given information provided.

How old is your laptop? What model is it? What do you mean run smoother? Do you just want it to be faster or does it lag sometimes? If it lags what are you doing when it lags?

Hardware wise you could install a SSD drive, put your operating system and game on it and make your exisiting hard drive for data. That is about all hardware wise. Also have you checked your Internet speed. Are you wireless or Ethernet? Either way go to TestMy.net Broadband Speed Test and see what kind of upload/download you get. Do both tests. Report back as to what type of Internet connection (wired/wireless) you have and results of upload and download test speeds you get.

Thanks for the great information. As with many others, my laptop has been stuck in Shanghai since the 29th (expected delivery 7/5). As long as it gets on a plane soon, and doesnt have any delays in Anchorage, I suppose it can make the 7/5 delivery date. With that said, as nothing has gone right - I've learned to expect delays. We'll see what happens.

To test and tell us what your temperatures are go to this site, download the program, install it, and then tell us what your temperatures are. Install HWmonitor , it will tell you the system temperature, hard drive temperature , et.
CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

You need to do all these test if we are going to help.

Newegg is out of stock. Yes you can use whatever MSATA drive you wish as long as it is the correct form factor.

    Supports 6.35-cm (2.5-in) hard drives in 12.7-mm (.50-in) and 9.5-mm (.37-in) thicknesses Customer-accessible Serial ATA (SATA)

    Supports Accelerometer hard drive protection

    Supports a 128-GB or 80-GB mSATA drive

One person did say the MSATA was a mini. Mine is still in Shanghi so as to it being full size or mini I can't say for sure but I believe it's full size. Hope this helps a little. Sorry it's not thevwhole answer.

mSATA drive Description Spare part number 128-GB mSATA drive 80-GB mSATA drive Before removing the mSATA drive, follow these steps: 665931-001 665932-001 1.Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2.Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer. 3.Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer. 4.Disconnect the battery cable from the system board (see Remove the mSATA drive: Battery on page 39). 1.Remove the Phillips PM2.0×2.8 screw that secures the mSATA drive to the computer

thanks, I did notice that as well after I posted that. I wonder if the laptop comes with the second hard drive caddy preinstalled.... Perhaps I could install one of these: Newegg.com - OCZ Vertex 4 VTX4-25SAT3-256G 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Does anyone know if this newer Ivy Bridge version still suffers from one 3GB/s port and one 6GB/s port on the two hard drive bays that the sandy bridge version had?

    Thanks

No caddy but does have the cable. Some people have used double stick tape. Also somewhere on the forum is a link to the caddy for less money than HP. Same caddy as for the 3000 machines. Yes it has same 6 and 3 GB problem. I can't get anyone to confirm MSATA speed though. Envy 17 does not, never has, suffered the orange problem. Only the 15" IPS screens had this problem.

38 for the hard drive , system board, what? Post all temperatures please. In fact, run your game while you have the temperature program running. Then after playing for 20 30 minutes, go back to the temperature program and post the low and high temperatures for all components.

Ok, your speeds are very low for Online gaming. You may try to use your Ethernet instead of wireless. You may need to upgrade / call your internet provider and get a faster connection. This is probably your lag latency problem.

Keep these numbers and your temperature numbers and post them . We can then decide if your unit is to hot. I'm off to bed so perhaps someone else can step in. Good luck. With all the numbers you get post tomorrow if no one helps tonight.

I've stated multiple times the msata is sataiii, and a few others have stated likewise. Maybe we need to get the first post edited to reflect the findings we've had rather than dozens of pages of posts to sift through.

Do we really have BIOS F.05 or F.06?

My BIOS reports F.05 (at boot and in registry) with a date of 4/23/2012, despite my trying to install F.06 multiple times ( HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors)(null) HP ENVY 17t-3200 CTO 3D Edition Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English). The InsydeFlash install seems to think it works, or at least I think it thinks that, the screen flashes away so quickly it's impossible for me to know for sure. Regardless, I thought F.06 was supposed to be the first BIOS release, so how do I have F.05??? Anyone else notice this?

Just be warned, I can't for the life of me figure out how to bypass the mSATA drive when booting. If you buy an mSATA drive and install it a machine with an OS already on another drive I think you'll find yourself unable to boot to the other drive. The BIOS does *NOT* let you choose the specific boot device, it just says "Notebook Hard Drive" and it will ONLY try the mSATA.

Free bootable Linux CD software like PartedMagic can help you fix this.

Remove the boot sector from the mSATA drive or repartition it using PartedMagic. Either one will prevent the BIOS from booting into the drive.

Just opened mine last night, so far so good, no blemishes/defects I've noticed just yet. Can someone whose received theirs tell me what came packaged with their envy? I've watched some unboxings and I can't help but feel I'm missing something, like the "thank you for purchasing envy 17" card lol... Also if anyone would like to know anything, although at this point I can't think of anything that hasn't been fleshed out, let me know.
