I do have the blu-ray player, only problem is i have no Blu-rays which is a shame. I stream all my high def content directly from my drives. I will confirm however that the drive does perform as expected when it comes to dvds. I'll try to get ahold of a blu-ray or two though if possible and let you know.

Appreciate the suggestion, but the mSATA is already completely wiped. The problem is that the computer/BIOS acts like other drives are not installed when the mSATA is there. It won't let you see them in the "change boot order" options and will ONLY to boot from the mSATA if it's installed. I'm guessing it's either a hidden BIOS option we can't change or an Intel Rapid Storage option I can't see/change (since I can't boot with the mSATA installed I can't view the IRST settings for it).

Good Lord, DKP89, you expect a Thank You card??? I want your life! I'm sorry you didn't get one. How about I write one on their behalf? Would that make things better? ;)

Honestly there wasn't much in the box. Just the laptop wrapped in a cloth and a power supply. No manuals that I recall, no DVDs, no other cables, nothing! I think you got it all.

Omg... Temperature of what? If you're asking for help, you need to be specific. These posts are way too vague. I've seen many members try to help you, but to no avail, due to your lack of compliance. Please elaborate further. It doesn't matter if you have a lot of things installed or not, it's all about how resource intensive they are on your system.

Make your computer run smoother? How? Are you playing games? Does a cold boot seem too slow for you? What kind of drives do you have? What kind of processor? How much RAM do you have? What power profile are you using? Is your laptop on a table or lap? What's the ambient room temperature?

    DETAILS.

Whoa, my Envy 17 will deliver today instead of Friday!
It kinda took a odd route going straight from Shanghai to Memphis and then it only took 1 day from there.
    Saved me about 3 days.

Yes, It was 2 day shipping. But I'm surprised that it actually took exactly 2 days and it didn't go through Alaska for clearance. Well whatever, lucky me I guess.

Those temperatures seem fine for gaming. Maybe you are expecting too much from the Envy. It's not really a gaming laptop so you won't be able to max out most games and have it buttery smooth 60fps.

It was indeed a weak attempt at humor. Major props to anyone who can speak more than one language, and I wasn't trying to poke fun at that. It was just the vagueness of the queries / statements I found so puzzling. My ability to communicate in spanish and french is very poor but by god I'd make sure to include a few more details, even if no one could understand them! But I see he has done that. No offense intended. :)

Ok, progress... Baby steps but still progress nevertheless. Do you mind telling us what games you're playing?... There are thousands.

Also as you've already been told, your internet connection is quite slow for online gaming. If that's the case, it's not your computer, it's your ISP.

I mentioned this way back when he originally brought this up, your internet is probably the cause. Especially with those numbers you gave us a few pages back. Like someone mentioned, try using the ethernet cable besides wireless. If that still doesn't work then pay more to get a better connection? Well I guess you could always return the Envy for an Alienware :)

My laptop shipped with F.05, F.06 is the first publicly available BIOS update available. Try downloading the BIOS update again, it might be refusing the update due to a failed CRC check.

I noticed that too with the BIOS being unable to choose a boot device properly. Your only options are to boot with a third party tool like super grub disk or install the bootloader onto the msata ssd or wait for a BIOS update to fix that problem. Though it's not completely horrible on their part, at least the logical order of the preset boot devices make sense.

Thanks, I actually tried downloading the BIOS three times, and all had the same hash.

I'm no BIOS/bootloader expert but from what I gather reading posts on the topic it seems like I can't easily boot from mSATA to SSD because my main SSD has the TrueCrypt bootloader. For some reason I don't as yet understand technically you can't chain them (or whatever the right term is).

I'm not an expert with truecrypt and only have passing knowledge of how it functions but I'm surprised it can't be used to boot a disk other than the one it is installed on. Have you checked with experts on their forum? And at this point you have an msata installed and a regular ssd installed and want to boot off the 2.5" ssd yes?

To answer your questions, the TrueCrypt bootloader can boot another partition/disk but the problem is I need another bootloader to load the TrueCrypt bootloader not the other way around. And something makes that not easily possible. Something about this over-writing that, or memory being over-written, or maybe even intentionally trying to prevent it (since your security would be compromised if other code could run before the TrueCrypt boot loader and intercept key strokes).

I did find people who said you could do it by booting a disk-based ISO of the TrueCrypt recovery disk, which in turn then boots the drive, but I couldn't get that working. And someone else mentioned a way with a separate tool to merge the grub and TC bootloaders but that project hasn't kept up with the TC bootloader and no longer works.

And yes, you were correct. The drive I use is a 2.5" SSD and I'm just trying to re-add the mSATA as extra storage.

    Hi Everyone,

My Envy finally shows its in transit as well. My scheduled delivery date is the 5th. Not sure if that will happen, as I'm wondering if the 6 days in Shanghai counts as a delay. It would be awesome if it arrived on Thursday, but the wait should be just about over.

I hope the Laptop will be great , and HP resolves the graphics switching issue. Can't wait :)

Went through another painful process of calling HP and requesting the replacement and to my surprise you can only do 1 replacement for an order. Basically, I had to place a completely new order which means no cashback...

Hey guys, I've been following the HP ENVY line since it got relaunched this year, and I just got enough money around to finally invest in it. But i can't find a solid answer anywhere on whether or not this computer can game well. I'm not looking for anything extravagant, but can the Radeon 7850 handle the latest games at an average graphics quality? For example can it handle something like Crysis or Max Payne on high settings?

I'm planning on getting the best possible specs for it as well.

    3820 processor
    16gb ram
    7200rpm hybrid drive

if ur mostly going for gaming, the 3820 is a waste. ur better off spending that money on ssd. the only time u need a stronger processor is if u do video editing or coding or other cpu intensive stuff (very few games are cpu intensive)

as for gaming. yes it can go gaming well. it can max out skyrim crysis shouldnt be a problem. u should be able to play almost every game with high settings if not higher

I actually did a bit research comparing the GTX 660m and the 7850m. The ATi card needs less overclocking to reach a an overclocked score of hte GTX 660m.

I compared results found on the internet with the same processor and ram. Literally, they are points within eachother.

Is the noise your talking about when your Laptop turns on or wakes from sleep. Because I had the first HP Envy 3000 and I can tell you that that is normal and you can't stop that noise unless you remove the dvd drive all together...

As was stated. Your internet connection is to slow. There is nothing that will fix your problem except possibly using a wire between your laptop and your wireless router ( this is called an Ethernet connection). If that does not help, you will have to call whomever you use to get your Internet and ask them to make your Internet service faster. This will cost you more money every month.

Your slow Internet connection will make all your games run slow and lag. Reloading windows or anything else will probably not help. Try to take your computer to a friends house or somewhere were there is a fast Internet connection and see if that helps.

    Good luck.
