Thanks for the quick response. Now only if you could give HP a few speed pointers.

The drive sound on startup? Yes.

Touchpad, as opposed to a mpb it's a hinge design and works quite well. Honestly this is the best touchpad ive used on a windows laptop.

Follow the instructions when you insert the first recovery disc. It's quite simple, i'm sure you can do it.

Also as you've already been told, your internet connection is quite slow for online gaming. If that's the case, it's not your computer, it's your ISP.

Like the above person said, your internet connection is to slow. There is nothing that will fix your problem except possibly using a wire between your laptop and your wireless router ( this is called an Ethernet connection). If that does not help, you will have to call whomever you use to get your Internet and ask them to make your Internet service faster. This will cost you more money every month.

Your slow Internet connection will make all your games run slow and lag. Reloading windows or anything else will probably not help. Try to take your computer to a friends house or somewhere were there is a fast Internet connection and see if that helps.

    Good luck.

this is my 3rd 17" envy and the first one with this issue. It's obviously not by design. My current 14" Envy also works as expected. If you are not bothered by it, that's cool, but this was the first thing I noticed and it's going back.

If it's a bother never mind, if not could you please explain in more detail the issue? Not meaning to sound dumb here, I read the thread, but you can't click at all on upper corners & touchpad is angled how, what degree, severe?

No mine doesn't click at the top but it also doesn't click in the lower two corners. When I click on the bottom left or right corner, it dips but there is no response when pressed...

Well I could probably return it but I'm leaving for school in early August so it wouldn't do me any good to have them "fix" something so little. It honestly isn't even worth it (especially since nothing else seems to be wrong with my system); it really doesn't bother me that it doesn't click all the way in the corner, I just click a little towards the center and it works just fine.

it's the bottom corners that are difficult to click. If I click closer to the bottom center it works fine. Also, I am not sure if its related to the clicking issue, but touchpad looks a bit uneven from top to bottom.

Hmm.... I just tried mine and it clicks consistently across the entire bottom. I can click right up to the edge of the touchpad without additional force. The force needed to click does increase as I move up the touch pad with the top 1/2 inch or so being unclickable. I can press down as hard as I want, but the top part doesn't click at all.

Triple post ahoy! I can confirm it has problems clicking across the entire range as well. Not something worth caring about in my opinion. I always tap anyway and have the double tap program to simulate right and middle buttons with taps. More efficient to not need to exert more than a light tap to use a mouse cursor :)

What's your address? I'll wait for it & sign for you, really!

On a serious note the laptop is being shipped With indirect signature required. Which by FedX definition means: " FedEx obtains a signature from someone at the delivery address; from a neighbor, building manager or someone at a neighboring address; or the recipient can also leave a FedEx Door Tag authorizing release of the package without anyone present."

So if your driver is doing his job and you direct him too your supers, and the super is there, bingo. I have signed a general release so the driver unfortunately will leave anything on the porch but I have to because of work.

You can also have it held at the closet FedX office . See link here FedEx - Hold at FedEx Location

Then again I still like the idea of you giving me your address :D

Hold at FedEx Location is not an option for pkgs sent from china.
I guess I have to call fedex to make sure I get my pkg before the weekend

Actually it is an option if you call them (them being hp) and ask them to change it to hold at location. But at this point i think it probably to late .

Turn on machine and spam "ESC". Look for the function key that corresponds to "Recovery".

    Do a minimal install. Done.

Does anyone know if we can use the HP recovery partition to reinstall a fresh copy of windows instead of using recovery discs? I've scoured my home and can only find FOUR blank DVDs, sucks when the magic number is five haha... Edit* I see this question has sort of been answered above for someone else so I have another query... Will I be able to make recovery media after I reinstall windows clean since I haven't done so with the shipped version? And what software do we lose? Hopefully nothing too important, is norton still there

Hey doctoram did you read my whole post? You asked if you could have them leave it with the super, answer yes. Can you have, not HP, have them hold it at a FedX hold location before f irst delivery attempt, yes.
Redirecting a Shipment Already On Its Way

To request to have your shipment redirected to another location before the first delivery attempt or after you receive a door tag, go to fedex.com and enter the tracking number in the Track box.
Select Hold at FedEx Location and choose an eligible location in your area.
Or call 1.800.GoFedEx 1.800.463.3339 and request a hold at location.

Do you have a neighbor home you trust, all good.

    Hope. This helps

That's weird, part of my tracking was like backwards but not between china and america though lol, it was the picking up and arriving at local FedEx facility.

Your package may be going through customs in Memphis instead of Alaska. It's possible...

WOW! CoolSense does some serious work...

Just finished playing Battlefield 3 for about 5 hours straight (Short snack and bathroom breaks). CPU was up to 84°C while playing, then dropped down to 48°C within 10 seconds of me quitting the game. I was playing Conquest Large online on a full server of 64 players as infantry, tanks, helicopters and jets (so a lot of extra input) over wifi with a ping of 39ms. No lag, playing on Ultra at all. I still havent installed FRAPS, but the gameplay is more than playable.

For some reason i can't get Ignition 3D to work with Battlefield 3, i went on their website and it said "[Beta]", next to it in the list of supported games. Assassins Creed Revelations is AWESOME.

ASDW keys never got uncomfortably warm, and neither did the right palm rest (Over my hybrid drive). The back right of the laptop however was HOT to the touch; thank God there's no keys over there.

Playing with headphones in, audio is amazing, just pure awesome. The enhancement of the game's sounds really immerses you in the combat.

That's all for now folks! Stay tuned...

When gaming don't you turn cool sense off to get the most out of the Envy? I thought most people said you get much better frame rates doing so.
