Just what I wanted to here. I pulled the trigger for an Envy 17 a few days ago. Really excited about this! And I think I may have found a winner..I went through the M14X, DV6t, and the Y580. I'm too anal about chassis feel and build.

Nice! All games seriously need a benchmark mode. What were the frame rates when you weren't recording? In BF3 I have vsync on and the screen locked at only 60Hz

Not exactly, but I'm the one who imaged my first gen Envy 17 3D into this one. Everything works except this, so I can live with it if need be. I did install all the 32XXX drivers. From what I've read with other people having similar problems with other HPs I'll see if a future update fixes things. My BIOS is inexplicably the F.05 not F.06 (and hasn't upgraded), so maybe that plays a role with the video driver.

    Thanks for the help.

I thought yours was on the same shipment as mine? It appears there was at least two pallets. One that went to Memphis and one that went to Indianapolis, may be more. The Indianapolis pallet hit at about 1:43 am 7/5 but didn't update till this morning. I was waiting last night for a compiler to end so i found the fedx flight and watched it fly from Canada to indy. If in your tracking detail at fedx, you see "Departed FedX location", that is the actual time the plane Took off or the truck pulled off the lot. You Can go to flight tracker and pull up Fedx flights by time and location. Mine hit the fedex hub, went on to a fedx satelite, and now siteseeing on a truck. Hopefully yours will update with good info.

So BF3 plays well on this machine? I am looking forward to it when I get mine in a week or two. Can everything be maxed out and still playable without lag or do some of the settings need to be turned down?

Apparently i'm on the Memphis pallet and it's been sitting there since 12:53 AM. The estimated delivery date hasn't changed (still reads today by 4:30pm) but unless Santa Claus is working for fed ex this ain't going to happen. I'm thinking may be tomorrow but most likely Monday. I'm just outside Washington, DC. :(

maybe it has something to do with the storms and power outages?

mine went straight from alaska to oakland to los angeles.

now at the local facility, waiting to be put on the truck for delivery.

Hey Dan, played it on Ultra (highest setting) for hours with no issues. The only thing that would slow this down is crumby internet.

Hit me up on Origin when you play. PM me for screen name.

Guys - The final status on the Fedex website shows "On FedEx vehicle for delivery".

    Here is the full history:

    http://www.fedex.com/Tracking?tracknumbers=534320278586&action=track&language=english

If it is not too much trouble, can one of you please post the complete steps for making a recovery disc. I was trying to go back to the pages on this thread as I am sure someone posted this before but I am not able to find it again.

I will let you guys know the build quality as soon as I receive my package.

You can simply go to the "Start" button, then in the "Search" box type "Recovery" and an HP Recovery program will pop up. Use that and if you use dvds it will say it takes 5.

And recommend you use good quality DVDs, last thing you need is cheap DVDs that degraded or had the film peel off a year or two down the road when you need them most!

Got to love it.. I got all excited.. Fedex ground just showed up at work. He walks into the accounting office (everyone is at lunch and its empty in there) walks out with a cookie that he just helped himself to. Seen me staring at him through the window from the other building waves at me and then turns around goes back in the office. So i start to walk over and he comes back out... He had stuffed the cookie in his mouth trying to conceal it. Turns out .. they were coming a day early to pick up my laptop i am returning.. Not delivering the new one :(

Haha dang that sucks... Well I might be returning my 3D one for the non-3D simply because I doubt I will use the 3D enough to compensate for the lack of battery life.

I received my Envy 17 and it is in an immaculate condition...no visible damages to USB ports, or bends, the clicks work fine as well with the touchpad..Quite heavy but I love the black finish as compared to MBP. They did an excellent job of a simple yet efficient packaging.

BTW - This thread has been super useful with extremely critical inputs from a lot of you guys..I am following it closely to be "AWARE" of all known issues and the suggested resolutions

    hello.

i've been playing with mine for a couple of hours now.

so far so good. but i did find one thing.

my battery cover seems a little loose. i can tap on it and it makes a sound, on one side. tried reinstalling it but still the same.

i may try to ask for a new battery cover.

    Hi Everyone,

Received my Envy late today. Just got home from work. It's after midnight, and have to be in again at 7 am tomorrow... so I must wait to try the Envy, until tomorrow tonight. While it sucks that the Envy sat at FedEx in Shanghai for several days, I'm totally amazed how FedEx moved it from China to Florida in 2 1/2 days. HP could learn a great deal about execution and customer satisfaction, from FedEx.

I'm hoping the unit will be defect free, and it will be worth all the wait and aggravation. I will report back, over the weekend. Thanks very much !

How do I switch to the 7850m? I'm trying to run Skyrim in High Performance mode, but I'm still on Intel graphics. How do I switch GPUs? On my older dv6, I just did it from the Intel/ATI control panel.

Yeah, I tried just playing, but it's extremely laggy, so I'm pretty sure it's still on the Intel 4000. Is there no way to manually switch it from a control panel like on the older switchable graphics (intel 3000/ ati5650)?

After you've ran it, right click the desktop and select "configure switchable graphics." You should see the Skyrim EXE listed. Set it to high performance. Also make sure the laptop is set to high performance mode by clicking on the battery icon on the task bar.

I meant I put my power settings in High Performance. I doubt that has any effect on the graphics; just the processor. Where are you enabling high performance for exe's?

Good looking out PaKii94. lol In other news, I've gotten my 7850m stable at 890/1250. That's 215 more on core and 250 on memory. I'm pretty impressed with this little card. The system was drawing 125 watts during the Heaven benchmark though. If we figure out how to overvolt it, the stock power brick probably won't be able to keep up with the load....

damn nice. im only at 667/1000 from 575/1000. but i dont think the powersupply will be a problem for me haha. the 7750m should draw much less. how are you measuring the watts? i got a multimeter thing my dad has with two prongs but idk if that would work

The CPU's perform about the same but I'm afraid the 7850m gets smoked by the 6970m. Which is to be expected considering the higher pipeline count and 256bit vs 128bit memory. Overclocked I get almost 4k GPU score in 3dmark 11 on the Sager. However, I do favor this envy. It runs cooler, quieter, and it sounds much MUCH better.

it is my forst few hours and the ENvy does not tell me how long the battery will last for .. just says 100% even when not plugged in..

damn ah well the 6970m competes with the 670m lol. I wished hp put the 7850m in the 15 and the (rumored) 7950m for the 17. or atleast 7770/7870 but ah well. HP atleast give us ability to OV and OC it more

Intel XTU is also enabled on these models. With your i7-3720QM you should be able to set the multiplier higher. I think up to 38x on all 4 cores. You should be able to set it: 40x 39x 38x 38x.
