As an added bonus, you also do not have the ability to use NVIDIA Optimus since the Integrated graphics are hidden from Windows by Apple :D

The lag is not from the game but while I was recording. Recording Gameplay was in the 40s. Playing on Ultra was fine because I was getting anywhere from 49-60FPS with no lag. Fraps eliminates like 10-15FPS while recording...

Anyone here calibrated their screen using spyder by datacolor?

I'm finding the calibrated profile gets loaded/unloaded at certain times ie. windows admin pop-up during an install or after a game. Also during start-up, i could see the change in color of the screen when the profile is loaded. Is this normal and is it because of the dual graphics on the Envy? Is there a way to make it just load the calibrated profile without using the spyder utility? Thanks for any help from fellow Envy owners.

i think its due to dual gpus. cause my envy flickers when i switch apps that use different gpus (by that i mean brightness and stuff)

The switching is normal. I see it occasionally and would also be interested to find out a way to make it stop doing that, but I think it's just the nature of switchable graphics. The DV7 with 650m did the same thing.

Oh ok. That's good to know then, i thought i may have messed up something during the install of the spyder software. Yeah, it will be great if the spyder profile doesn't get unloaded.

I'm uploading a new Skyrim video on Ultra because the last video was lagging. Please remember I was in the 40s while recording with Fraps. I wish there was a better program to use but there isn't...

Never mind just finished the video and I still see some lagging. I don't get it, I know it's Fraps causing this because it does not lag at all in the game. Does anybody have a solution I could try. By the way. FPS while recording was in the 40s. FPS while playing Skyrim was around 49-60FPS. These are real #s from the game...

If you want the recorded video to appear smoother, you need to increase the Movie recording FPS to 60. This will put much more extra load on your CPU and Storage drive though.

Oh and, if your frame rate drops below 60, Fraps will lock your game rate to 30.. and if below 30.. it will lock it to 15.. yeah...

As I said, if the game drops below 60, the video will be recording at 30.. and so son.

I think I finally have the Envy 17 3D laptop that I'm satisfied with. It took 3 tries. The first one had the defect keyboard. Some people in the forum mentoned it as well... hollow sounding keys, or funny/ different sounding key strokes especially on the left side of the laptop. I exchanged it. You're not crazy if you want to exchange it. (Don't let the people on the forum call you OCD. It's clearly a defect.) My exchange came and it looked gorgeous. The keyboard ws better, but I wouldn't say it was as good as the Envy 15 I also own. But I was willing to accept the laptop as it was, but I couldn't burn the recovery discs without the process erroring. Turns out the optical drive had problems not just writing but reading disks. I requested another exchange but HP declined. They said I could return it and order another one. At this point, my initial purchase date was all the way back at 6/5. I didn't want to order something and wait 2 weeks for it to be built/ customized and shipped from China. So I bit the bullet and opted for the pre-configured 3290NR series. It finally arrived today. The thing is actually better put together than my exchange. The keyboard is perfect like my Envy 15 and the optical drive works. For some reason I feel like the track pad isn't as sensitive as the other 2 but I'll update the drivers and it should handle better. I just finished burning my recovery disks. Looks like the third time is the charm.

Think you could post your color profile so those less fortunate can calibrate their monitors to a nice value, not as good as having the calibrator but it should be fairly close.

Bought some more games during the Steam sale. Here's Left 4 Dead 2 on high basically Max settings. FPS while recording were in the 40s. FPS while playing will give you a smooth 60 Frames Per Second. Gameplay and Graphics were very smooth... Hope you enjoy...

If this is true, he is wrong.

My 3610QM runs at 3.1 GHz while all 4 cores are active (which means Turbo is working).

Dont blindly believe what they say....do your own research ...considering tht u r from the same part of the world as I m ..I know someone who works for a competitor brand and tht too at hardware testing and he did not know tht Sandy bridge was 2nd Generation and Clarksfield was 1st..

HP is also something similar...no planning..poor Customer Service..though I would say HP was made some improvement with quality over last year..but still not upto the mark..Envy is the only bright spot now and tht too they left the topmost version handicapped with no switchable graphics...

And as Machater said it supports tubo boost just fine..the guy who u talked to has no idea abt core i series processor or what even turbo boost is..

It seems that this notebook is "unlocked", meaning I can change Turbo TDP with Intel XTU and ThrottleStop.

Too bad I can't test if the multiplier is adjustable as the 3610QM is non-adjustable anyways.

Apparently the 3720/3820QM can be adjusted on the Alienware/Sager systems.

it brings down fan noise... abit but the fans still run lol. also if u end up getting it make sure to turn cool sense off.. it just makes the fans spin up more.

im wondering if hp will release a bios update for fixed gpus... i dont think so cause of enduro :(

Anyone know if the Zagg InvisibleShield for the first gen Envy will fit the 3200 series, or if the 17" MBP protector would work better? Mainly concerned with lid scratches, so I just want to have some sort of protection against putting it in a case multiple times a day.

Likely not work with the first gen, I believe they changed the shell in second gen? Find something that will fit a second gen Envy 17 and you should be good.

Does anyone feels like that screen is too reflective? I am in the office right now, I have only lights on and in some situations I can look at myself like in mirror. Is there any anti glare film you guys would recommend, I google it and it looks like there are some of the films for Envy 3070nr, would that fit?

I would appreciate if someone who have a good fitted film on their Envy to recommend where to buy.

    Thanks

PS: True, we do realy have turbo boost, there wasn't any sw, but I downloaded the old gadget and it works with ivy bridge.

Increasing the brightness to max would help u get rid of most reflections.. lower brightness more relections..specially with black backgrounds.. :)

there is nothing made specifically for envy. but most of the major screen protector brands make generic screen protectors that fit on most screens.

ur post got me thinking about how im gonna be using this in college so anyone would be able to peek at what im doing with these wide ips angles :D

so i did some research and it seems like "3m" is the best brand to go by. viewgaurd apparently has some flaws.

3m also basically "supports" the older envys (3000s). and 3ms are available on amazon and walmart :p.

ima prolly buy one ill let u guys know how it goes first ima wait for my replacement to come :D

    here is there website: http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/3MScreens_NA/Protectors/Why_Screen_Privacy/

Only use the highest quality disks for recovery disks, even then,,,,4-6 of 25 may be bad.

Yeah that disk might have been a dud. Just pop in a new DVD and you should be good to go. Also remember to use the best quality DVD's for making your recovery disks...You only get to make them once so choose wisely...

Personally I think it's worth the $15 - 20 for a USB stick to use as the recovery media. No swapping, fewer errors, and easy to image (as are dvds of course).

Hello everyone! I will get my new Envy 17 3200 soon at the beginning of Aug,this laptop seems great but I do have a problem with it. I used to using a laptop that have one of these big battery that can bump up my laptop to make it tilted upward, I really like this feature as it makes my typing experiences so much easier and not making my laptop looks flat on the desk. The Envy 17 does not have one of these big battery to makes it tilted, is there anything I can buy to make my Envy titled upward just like the one I used to have? Any help will be much appreciated! :p

u dont need to get a cooler with fans. for example, i dont have a proper cooling pad so im using coolmaster u1 shown here

it does come with a fan but u dont have to put it in. and as u can see it elevates the back i use it on my bed so no lint and dust go in the fans :p u could get the proper one for ur laptopbut just not put fan in. or i think there are some called passive cooling pads but idk which are good

Envy fan noise goes up during gaming..normally its fine..if the cooler keeps it cool the fans wont go up..there are good coolers with minimum noise..or else u cann just use a book or something to elevate the rear of the laptop..to give u that ergonomic angle.. :)

I have the envy 17 3200-ed now about a weak. It is a really good laptop, nice, fast and a beautiful screen. But the fan is on alot. Even when i do almost nothing.

Yes i know about hp coolsense. And yes, it is off. But even if it is off the fan is stil spinning. The cpu temp is about 38-41 (whit and without the fan blowing).

Further when i play a game of course the fans are blowing alot, but when i exit the game 1. the right fan dont stop and the amd 7850m don't go entirely off.

Only when i conplety reboot the laptop all the fans and the 7850m are back to quiet, untill the next etc.
