@Drufaith, are you running the 3d version becuase I installed the 12.9 betas and my catalyst control center dosn't look any different. I do not have the option to assign settings to particular apps.

I do not have the 12.9 betas. I have the non 3D version with the original drivers installed. I believe you saw me asking PaKii94 what he saw after installing the 12.9 beta driver. If you go back and look his post is contained in the box with my question.......similar what your question and my answer will look like when you view this.

Im planning to buy an SSD for the 3270nr.

Does anybody have good suggestions to which one would be the best option for this laptop?

I forgot to bookmark the pages including that discussion. I'd really appreciate it guys.

    I got the pages mentioning the Ram ( Newegg.com - G.SKILL 16GB (2 x 8G) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model F3-1600C11D-16GSQ) and connectivity for 3 external displays ( page 225 on this thread) don't really care about eyefinity. Also the page on testing the laptop's components ( page 238).

    Thanks

Haha that would be pretty awesome.
Just looked at your choice for an SSD and have a few questions:

-Can this one be designated as the primary drive for the operating system?
-Is the size compatible with the hard drive bay (primary) to fit without a caddy?
-And, I've been trying to figure out if SATA3 is an option (as a primary drive) for this laptop. Which one would be better (mSATA v. SATA3)?

    Thanks

Yes, it can be used as a primary drive. There is no option to use it as smart cache like with the DV6 or 7 models. I have heard of users having trouble using it as a secondary non-boot type drive. The bios likes to use it only as the primary boot drive sometimes.

The size is not compatible with the normal drive bays. It fits into it's own msata port.

The envy can run Sata3 in the mSata port, and the primary drive bay, but not with the secondary bay.

I have the 256GB version of the Crucial M4 and it works great as a boot drive. Nice and quick and I'm from power up to full desktop in less than 20 seconds.

The mSATA can only be used as a boot drive. Won't let you do it any other way, though I think one or two people allowed it to to be a non-boot drive with some rather ugly changes to the system. I'm more than OK with it working as a boot drive.

OK. After reading this thread and the owners lounge one, and thinking about it too much, I would like to order one of these over similar Asus G75VW with 660M gpu, but I have some questions:

    - I believe the non-3D version will get me best battery life for general purpose use, while still enabling some pretty great gaming when plugged in. Agreed? (Don't care about 3D / using 3+ monitors.)

    - I've have seen a random post or two that indicates that the non-3D version may be slower than a standard 7850M due to use of the iGPU frame buffer. Haven't seen this confirmed by any noteworthy user. Can anyone comment?

    - Anybody know the specs for the 750GB hybrid HD offered?

    - My thinking is that I will order the hybrid hard drive, but also add mSATA SSD for boot/OS/core applications, leaving a HD slot free for later expansion.

    - I've read in forums that the mSATA isn't as good as 2.5" SSD, but google has led me to believe this is not true. Is there any known issue with this machine or something?

    Everyone,

My AC adapter randomly charges my computer and randomly stops working. I used the HP chat support and the tech said to remove my battery, it will not void the warranty either he said.

Just looked up the crucial mSATA drive, it is incredibly small and packs 200+ gigs. That's awesome.

Do you know if the 3270nr needs any screws to fasten it (i don't think a caddy would be necessary based on the form factor, probably for 2.5" drives though) into the the laptop? I've heard these crucial SSDs don't pack them with their drives.

Can i use this as a primary drive with the OS on it, and without a caddy?
If the mSATA is the easiest option for additional drive placement, I'll just go with that.

Apologies for the repetitive question, but this concept is a bit confusing to me now since I didn't get a solid tutorial for this laptop to begin with.

Yes I have my SSD set up as the boot drive and I use the 750GB drive for storage and everything else. You can remove the caddy from bay 1 and use that on bay 2. You don't really need a caddy because an SSD has no moving parts so it should be safe. I recommend leaving the caddy on the 2nd drive because it does has moving parts being a mechanical drive...

So what did you put in there to keep it in place?

Also looking at memory, which would be better, CL 11, 10, or 9?
I can see that CL 11 are cheap. Found this on Newegg with a $10 off for CL 10:
    Newegg.com - G.SKILL 16GB (2 x 8G) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model F3-1600C10D-16GSQ

I am actually a bit surprised also that they did not make some room in there for one. I love the idea of an mSata port, as many people don't buy a large volume SSD anyway.

I got looking at the sizes of these things and thought it would make a funny post.

Edit - I have also been wondering about the screws used on the msata. It looks like just the 2 are needed, but where to get them?

Crazy glue would be creative, although I would end up stuck to my computer.......

@iris786 - Just use ImgBurn to copy your first recovery discs to ISO image files and then burn as many copies of those as you want.

Does anyone have the dual 5400rpm drive configuration? What model number of drive did HP provide? What are your experiences with the drive for typical internet/email/office use vs gaming/video?

Thanks for the advice, but i have made backup usb of 32 GB which is now just sitting there and i cant use it for any other purpose..i thought of just putting it on my HDD but really dont know if it will stay bootable once i copy the files to HDD.

Also got a query, when i did minimal installation through recovery to my mSATA it made 3 partitions to my SDD 2 of which were around 200MB only..and i deleted their names i.e,drive letter through disk management software so that they donot appear oin my computers folder. Now evwn though the laptop is working all fine i am stuck thinking if it would run recovery fine next time if i run it from the on-machine recovery tool.(from the partition in my primary shipped HDD)

    Any suggestions ares welcone.

The recovery tools are not OS dependent, removing the drive letters will not cause any problems. Same with the diagnostic tools.

    Here:

    1. Delete the file RMCStatus.bin (hidden) from two places:
    -c:\Program Files(x86)\Hewlett-Packard\Recovery Manager\
-The root of a drive d:\ (RECOVERY partition)
    2. Remove Rebecca.dat (also hidden) from C:\Windows\System32\

They're likely being refreshed with Windows 8 pre-installed, probably with a different 32xx model number or possibly a 33xx model number.

All the PC vendors are going to do Win8 refreshes on all of their stuff, though for the 32xx, the only changes I could see might be CPU changes (3720 to 3740, perhaps) or HDD changes. Rest of the system is likely not to change at the system board level.

It looks like the 12.10 drivers might be live and released, as they're showing up as the most recent non-beta drivers out for the desktop models and the Notebook Download Tool is showing a 12.10 version as well.

Have the 12.11 Beta drivers been stable?

I recommend skipping 12.10 because the 12.11 are designed for the Radeon HD 7000m cards. This is especially good for anyone who has the new envy 17 3200 series. They have been pretty good so far. No complaints from me...

Has anyone figured out how to force all apps to the 7850? I keep trying to "add" apps under switchable graphics and the list seems to reset with each reboot. No idea if my changes are actually getting saved. I'll try out the 12.11 beta drivers.
