ya it only hit 15 when I was outside, with snow everywhere. that makes sense.

Thanks for all the help guys, but could someone please run the video stress test with the settings shown in the attached screen shot below and see what the average fps is? I got 73 fps. Thanks again. Appreciate it.

94.61 FPS is what I got
-
257.15 FPS...do both of you have it running at 1080p? I running at 1360 x 768
-
Using the settings you used in your picture, I got 94.37 running at 1080p.

Can someone list games with MULTI CORE enabling?
so far i only know of Portal 2, and i have EVERYTHING MAXED and it runs silky smooth (50-60fps)
as we all know ( or should ) most games only use 1 core, not taking full advantage of our quad core systems
-
yehp, we running it at 1920 x 1080, hm... wow... a 20 fps difference....something must be wrong... i have the 2720 but 2gb less of ram...but i doubt that could be the difference...using msi afterburner i am definitely using the discrete...don't know what could be the different... any ideas? Thanks again guys.
-
If you're absolutely sure you're using the discrete? I made sure to set both the steam shortcut on the desktop and the hl exe in the counterstrike folder to high performance.
What drivers are you running? I am running 8.830.6.1000 -
ATI Driver: 8.850.6.0
Catalyst Version: 2011.0525.11.41627 -
Which ones are those?
-
I installed the Windows update for the Radeon and then the Hotfix 11.b. How about you?
-
I'm running the stock drivers because of stuttering problems in full screen World of Warcraft caused by the 11.5b drivers. Catalyst Control Center tells me its 11.5 but I thought stock was 11.4, so I'm not sure.
-
Did you change any settings in your Catalyst Control Center? Also, would you know the proper way to revert to old drivers? Because you are supposed to unisntall all other ATI drivers and all right? Thanks.
-
The reason mine may say 11.5 in cat and be running 11.4 is because I actually went into the device manager, did update drivers and have disk, then downgraded through the drivers in the swsetup folder, rather than doing an uninstall. So I'm actually running the CCC from the 11.5b driver install that I did have, but the drivers from stock.
-
Hey Beradon, I did the exact same thing you did. I reverted back to the stock drivers and now I got 94.1 FPS....I'm not really sure what the best driver to use lol..Thanks
-
To me, the best drivers are the highest performance ones
-
hehe true that. I just tried running Starcraft two, i used to average abougt 45 FPS on preset high, now it looks like with the downgraded drivers i went down to like average of 40 fps... so it looks like the "best" driver changes depending on which games. In addition, it looks like i'm almost getting double the FPS than i was getting with the 11.5 driver in playing Heroes of Newerth...
-
You can revert to old drivers at anytime by using the device manager to roll back the drivers. 11.5b CCC and drivers have been far and away the best performance for me to date.
-
has anyone run 3dmark with the 11.6 drivers yet?
-
where are the best spot for the fans on the U2 cooler i got it and my temps havent really gone down. Still reaching around 84 C in witcher
-
If you really want to drop temps, reapply the thermal paste with artic silver 5 or IC diamond 7. HP just use cheap thermal paste pads
-
IC diamond 7 is the way to go. I've never used AS5 but I've tried MX4 and it's crap...
-
wont that void my warranty
-
If you break it, yes. If it works, no.
-
Unless you majorly screw up, it shouldn't be a warranty problem. My fast-shipped replacement laptop actually came with missing screws.
-
Can anyone who has tried reapplying the thermal paste give some feedback on the results? Is it worth it to risk wrecking the chip nad what is the best way to do it?
-
If you are able to do it. Yes it's worth the risk.
-
Hm.. my laptop gets like really hot on the left palm rest...even with a Notepal X2 cooler it gets warm enough to make my palms sweat which gets uncomfortable. do you think reapplying the thermal paste will fix it? weird thing is, that temperature wise it always stays below 90 even when playing SC2 and whatnot...just thinking that something might be wrong. Thanks.
-
90 seems pretty hot. My laptop has never got above 85 playing sc2 maxed out for a few hours. the highest it has ever been is 85
-
Mines highest recorded temp was 94 on the CPU. It only got there once when I was OCing, but it worries me enough. I probably should apply some Arctic Silver 5, right?
-
Noob here....Just bought the dv7tqe, and whenever I try to run some games through Steam, my computer crashes, and says my video memory has inccured a fatal error. It happens when I try to start up Titan Quest and King's Bounty...any help?
-
I used both AS5 and IC diamond. i have to say that IC diamond wins by about 5C and it's easier to apply.
-
i play crysis 2 @ 1366x768 "Gamer" settings and i only get around 30-40 fps.. weird. Anyone know what is my problem?
-
i get 40-50s in the first level with these setting. and 30s at advanced settings with same resolution .
-
wth -___- and other people are getting 50-70 fps
-
Yeah I heard both are really good. I haven't applied paste in a few years, so I don't remember much about applying it. How is IC Diamond easier to apply?
-
You don't have to spread the paste if you're using IC7, you just apply a pea sized drop on the chip and lay down the heat sink.
-
I thought that is how most paste is applied now. Put a small dab and let the heatsinks pressure spread it out.
Is alcohol wipes enough to clean off the old paste or should I buy a specific cleaner? -
I use 99% Isopropyl alcohol and quality coffee filters for better results.
-
Winner, choose your prize:
-
I think with AS5, you need to spread it with a card or something... but I could be wrong
-
What does core VID mean in cpuz? o.o
-
I could be wrong, but I believe that it has to do with the voltage across the CPU
I bought some Arctic Silver 5 today (only because I needed to find something sold in stores) and tested it out on a cheap i3 build and it dropped load temps by 10C+. I'll be putting it on my DV6 soon, but first another question...
I was looking at the manual and it says that the CPU has thermal paste, but the GPU and Northbridge use thermal pads. Is there too much separation to apply paste or will I have to put the old pads back on?
P.S. I also bought the Arcticlean Cleaner and that stuff is awesome. The old paste came off like it was (?) pudding (I think that's the best comparison) -
Had anybody tried the 11.6 catalyst and drivers? Is it better than stock? I've got the dv6t-6100. How would I go about installing 11.6 w/o breaking dynamic switching?
-
Just update from stock->11.6. You can't break the dynamic switching, which is why so many people (including me) are upset.
-
Where can I find the 11.6 drivers?
-
AMD Catalyst 11.6 WHQL (8.861 May 24) - Download & Discussion - Guru3D.com Forums
Make sure you get the Mobility 11.6, not the normal one. -
That actually isnt true. People have managed to make it so the intel isnt recognized at all, which is bad as well.
Also, are there performance gains? -
Well, I know that the 11.6 drivers by itself don't have the intel drivers. Those come from the stock, right? It may have to do with updating using Windows Update or something (I don't reccomend that, by the way - it has problems like uncontrollable screen tearing in Crysis 2).
And no, I haven't seen any performance gains with Witcher 2 or Oblivion. I haven't tried benchmarking, but I've found them to be rather unreliable in terms of practical use. Some games may perform better, some worse. You'll have to experiment with your own games to find the best match for yourself. -
I never install any driver updates from Windows Update. I did that one time and spent the rest of the afternoon getting my laptop working again.
