Will these games not work on our laptop or we would have to switch to the power saving intel card to play them?
Also will we need this driver to do that or not?

^ I'm not trying to be a jerk, but this has been hashed and rehashed and re-rehashed in several threads.
MOST OF THOSE GAMES WILL WORK. Just because it has an OpenGL renderer, that doesn't mean that it lacks a Direct 3D renderer. Almost all recent games support Direct 3D. -
Right. Those games INCLUDE and OpenGL renderer but also DirectX, so you can use DirectX

I posted in the owner's llounge, but I thought this might be the better place to ask. I don't know if any of you have heard of a game called Armagetorn Advanced, but it's not really that demanding. For instance, my old laptop with a Pentium m 1.73ghz and integrated graphics, I get between 30 and 50 fps. On my new system, on the same settings, I get between 10 and 25 fps. This seems a little ridiculous to me, it aught to be in the 100-200s. Any ideas as to why I am getting low frame rates?
-
can anyone tell me whats a decent FPS which a game should run on?
i recently ran devil may cry 4's performance test on my HP dv6 6115(i5 2nd gen 2410, 4gb ram , 6490m radeon)
with the intel card i was getting only 20-40 and with the radeon i was getting 50-70 fps(only on plugging it to the adapter). is that decent or low?
and on 1360 res it goes down further intel 15-20 and radeon 40-55 -

Hey guys, I am trying to run 3Dmark 11 basic edition and I ran into a problem. The program ran, and I saw the demo the deap see and high temple. However, after the high temple part, it closed and said:
Workload Single init returned error message: Full-screen mode is unavailable. Close all background programs.
There were no pother programs running. I downloaded the GPU meter gadget, and everything is always 0. It has the ati symbol in the corner, so I am assuming it is measuring the HD 6770m. In 3Dmark 11, the demo runs at between 3 and 15 fps. I didn't see a meter, that's just what it looked like. Should the fps be higher than that? Does anyone have any ideas about the aforementioned error? -
well, I tried again selecting the 'benchmark tests only', and it worked. When it brought me to the page with the results, it said my 3Dmark score was p873. The graphics tests were between 2 and 4 fps, and the physics test was 10 fps.The graphics and physics scores were 771 and 3459, respectively. Did it use the HD 6770m? Are these good scores? I really don't know that much about gaming or benchmarks, so please excuse my ignorance.
-
3DMark11 will run at 720p. Perhaps you need to make sure 1280x720 resolution is available, and if not create a custom one. I can't imagine that 1280x720 isn't a default resolution. P873 sounds about right.
-
Thank you, So my scores are correct? Also, the armagetron issue is bothering me, would one of you download it and see if you get the same issue? the framerates are un-playable. like 7 fps most of the time with regular settings. The download link is here.
-
Ok, well I got armagetron working, apparently the un-installer doesn't remove the directory in users/user/application data, so I had to go in and delete that, then re-install. That did the trick.
-
Revo will create a system restore point, uninstall the application and delete anything that was left over.
This is great to have if you want stuff deleted and completely gone from the computer and not leave any traces. -
well, I thought I had fixed it, but no. In the default square map, I get playable framerates, like 30-ish, but in the maze maps, I only get 11 fps. On my old laptop, with the exact same settings, I get between 70 and 80 fps.
-
Sweet! I went into device manager and updated the AMD driver to 8.830.6.2000, and now I get around 150 fps, up from 11.
-
So you basically reinstalled the drivers?
8.830.6.2000 is the default driver used in 61xx series. -
No, when I first opened device manager, it said the driver was 8.830.6.1000. Then I pressed update driver, and it went to 8.830.6.2000.
-
I think I have a problem, when I went to turn off my machine right after my last post, it started to intall updates. It has been hanging at 'please do not power off or unplug your computer, installing update 9 of 40' for about 45 minutes now. THe thing is that the hard drive light is off. Not even blinking. Should I force it off? what could happen?
-
Sorry, perhaps a little new-laptop paranoia. It finally got done, and I am back in bweesness. Business, that is.
-
i got this question: If i can play bad company 2 right now smoothly with everything on max will i be able to play BF3 on max too? here are my FPS figures:
AF = 16x
MSAA = 8x
FPS = 28-35
AF = 16x
MSAA = 1x
FPS = 38-45
Everything else is enabled and/or set to highest.
how much will the numbers go down? -

-
Nobody knows, but we can irresponsibly speculate that if your system can run BFBC2 high, then BF3 will most likely run similarly with medium details.
-
OK IT seems that Gamestop accidentally published BF3 SPecs:

The display driver for my dv7-6014tx seems to lock up and stop responding on a regular basis on some games, its really annoying. I have a feeling its to do with OpenGL, might have to run those games on the intel chip in order to avoid crashes
Hopefully there's a fix for this in the not too distant future, the whole point of the 60xx was to have manual control so OpenGL worked, but if the drivers lock up then its not really an improvement. -
Basically the on board intel chip is not mainly designed for gaming... You could try it but I don't think you would have great frame rates or anything near them!
-
Computer gaming scrub here, in the past I've always just turned settings to the lowest possible notch and played my games like that.
What combination of settings would get me the best quality/experience in BF:BC2? As it is I've just been playing at 1080p on all lowest settings but that seems a bit silly.. do I drop to 1366x768? Why is there 1366x760? Do I need anisotropic filtering or anti-aliasing? Basically, I'd like to know what settings I can max out my 2630QM/6770m on.
Thanks in advance.
Related: Can someone point me in the right direction to overclocking my CPU/GPU safely? -
Why don't you just try those settings and see if you need it? Some people prefer higher resolutions, some want higher details. AF/AA sometimes makes a difference, sometimes it doesn't.
It's all up to you.
You can't overclock your CPU or your GPU. The GPU might be overclockable in the future when a BIOS update is released but the CPU will never be OCable. Overclocking laptops will reduce operational life. -
-
on my dv7t 6100 quad edition with 8gb of ram and the 1gb 6770m, i can run the witcher 2 using medium settings and 768p resolution at 30+ framerate
-
-
defaults to low and medium is a smooth 30 so it works for me -
What driver is everyone using? Something went wrong witth my 11.6 hotfix and now there is no where to switch my graphics and my res wont go above 1024.
-
You can always roll back the drivers. Uninstall from device manager in my computer properties.
-
Do you know when the 11.7 will come to the dv6tqe
-
Despite the switchable graphics issue, I'm still looking at a dv6tqe or dv7tqe but wasn't sure if I wanted the stock 1366x768/1600x900 screen or the upgraded 1920x1080 screen. I was concerned that the 6770M wouldn't have decent frame rates at 1080p.
How does the 1080p screen look if you scale it to 1366x768 or 1600x900? Fuzzy? -
nope it looks just fine - the 1080p screen is better quality than the default screen get it
-
I know a lot of people were wondering about BF3 specs. I just got an alpha invite and these are the specs DICE included in the email.
RECOMMENDED PC SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
OS: Windows 7 or Vista (SP1)
Installed: Origin
CPU: Quadcore @ 2.0 GHz or faster
RAM: 4GB or more
Hard Drive: 7.25GB free
Video: 512 MB or greater DirectX 10 or 11 compatible card with latest drivers (AMD 11.5 or later, nVidia 275.33 or later)
Sound: DirectX 10 or 11 compatible card
Internet: broadband connection
Note that these do not necessarily represent the requirements for the finalgame -
Yeah, that's Alpha. Final specs can change drastically as they fine tune. I'm certain a Core 2 Duo will be minimum spec though, with avg quad for recommended. It is supposed to be pretty scalable with slower video cards too, let's hope.
-
Has anyone actually run Battlefield 3 on their dv6t yet? If so, how did it go?
to be useful we'd want 3 things:
1) game settings, resolution
2) hardware specs - CPU, GPU, RAM, hdd speed)
3) temperature
My internet is slow as hell but I'm also downloading the alpha invite. I just had surgery though so I don't feel like gaming much, I'm fine with clearing out a backlog of movies. -
I get around 35 fps which is perfectly playable on 1366x768 on Low when playing Battlefield 3 Alpha Trial. But this is in alpha, not even in beta, so it is poorly optimized.
-
Hmm I can only get 15-20 fps on my laptop (in sig) in Witcher 2...
Can anyone help me figure out why? I'm running a 3dmark vantage right now... I got 6107.
I'm also on the 11.7 drivers. -
Alpha code is never a good indication of how well the final game will play. The code is raw, with few to no optimizations. So the fact that you can play alpha on low at 35fps is good news. I'd expect significant improvements, like probably close to double that, before release (i.e. 70fps at 720p all low), which means there's hope for 40-50fps turning on some bells and whistles.
-
what are your settings set to? -
After a whole lot of tweaking, and setting res to 1366x768, and turning settings all the way down i could get ~35.
The difference between that and high settings was like 6 fps, so now I'm at 1366x768 running at 29 fps average, I still wish it was higher, I also heard that the witcher 2's new patch (1.3 I believe) made everyone's frames go down significantly from 1.2. Maybe if they fix that, and I put 11.6 back in I could run it at 1920x1080 which atm is unplayable even with everything at lowest... -
-
my 3d markvantage is only 5850. My Gpu score is pretty low. Anyone know what the problem could be? I have 11.5b hotfix i think
-
Check if you are in High Performance mode in power options.
Secondly, check HP Coolsense and make sure you are in performance optimized mode.
If you are using the default drivers like it appears you are, you should be getting a score of at least 6000 on the dv6t. With updated drivers you should be getting around 6500. -
-
I didn't check any other games/programs, though
Gaming - dv6tqe/dv7tqe
