I am in need of experts....
My 6770M gets up to 76C while playing NFS Hot Pursuit. Is that normal? If not, is there any way to make it run cooler? I'm thinking about repasting but I'm no good at disassembling things.
Thanks in advance. -
Yes, that is normal.
-
I'd say 76 isn't to bad, I get up to 80 when i play games on stock settings. Do you have hp coolsense set to high performance?, if so try changing it to coolest mode and that will drop your temps a little bit at the cost of a minimal performance loss.
-
Thanks guys. I'm running stock too. Guess I will be a bit more encouraged to overclock now.
Just one more thing, when I run WEI with the 6770M, I got 4.8 for graphics. Not that I take it seriously, but do you have any idea why it happened? Just curious. -
It might be testing the intel graphics card
-
I'm sure it was the 6770M, because it was on fixed mode.
Here's what I got for graphics and gaming graphics:
6770M: 4.8 - 7.0
Intel HD: 5.6 - 6.2
Personally, I found it quite funny. Any idea? -
Was it plugged in or unplugged...
-
Plugged, all the time.
-
update to latest drivers, go into the catalyst control center and go to switchable graphics and make sure it is set to high performance gpu. Than re-run wei and afterwards click the "view and print.." link to make sure it was using the amd gpu and not the intel one. Also make sure your power profile in windows is set to high performance.
-
I just got the Dv6 quad with AMD 2gb radeon, flashed the new bios and things work. But I can't get the Metro 2033 demo to start. It crashes within the opening ad. Any ideas?
-
what is wei guys ?
-
About that...How come I can't install drivers downloaded from AMD website? I'm feeling pretty old using 11.5.
-
Windows Experience Index. Basically a rudimentary benchmarking utility built into Win Vista and 7.
-
If you go read the release note.
There is a boxed note on the graphic model compatibility.
-
Argh...Thanks anyway. Now we can only hope HP is not lazy on driver improvements, and we all knoow they will be.
-
I feel pretty old using 11.5 drivers too but apparently they are the most stable, so people say.
-
So far I seen, is the 2nd minor revision HP 11.4 is the most reliable AMD driver for the dv6/dv7 6xxx series.
-
so whats a gpu driver update impact on my gaming experience anyway ?
-
The 11.8 download from here has been working perfectly for me. Just make sure you install over the HP drivers; don't do a fresh driver install with this because then the switching won't work.
-
Hehe, this is whats maddening about these threads... every other reply says you should under ALL circumstances completely remove any trace of drivers, preferrably with REvo or CC cleaner before installing new ones.. Its just one long headache!
I actually did do a complete uninstall of the drivers that came with my DV7t 6140 last week, after I had upgraded the BIOS to the latest one, but it didnt work, Crysis was unplayable (kept freezing and had weird artifacts all over the screen), so I rolled back to the old one, and Ive been problem free ever since.
Its also incredibly confusing when it comes to CCC and the drivers, sometimes we should install one and not the other, sometimes both, sometimes in different orders, it depends on what post you read, but on almost every page there are conflicting and new instructions... Makes my brain bleed!
Are you saying that we should download the Catalyst MOBILITY 11.8? and then just install that without doing any uninstalling of old drivers? -
You really should just not do it unless you're having a problem that a new driver version fixes. Don't fix what ain't broke.
-
Tell me about it! But Im always thinking "this is gonna make my games run even faster" and eventually one needs to update to gain some performance increase, since they are optimizing the drivers. Its just such a pain in the to get right when trying to install, since it seems everyone says different things.
-
Well in a perfect world, to update to 11.8 from say 11.5, all we'd need to do is run the 11.8 install - choose custom install - then only install the AMD display driver. As in uncheck everything else.
This will usually work just fine. Even with our laptop. People suggest cleaning out all traces of the old drivers because sometimes it can cause conflicts but this is NOT the case most of the time.
I run that stuff anyway because its just a habit now and it gives a certain sense of security like "i know this driver is going to work now" feeling.
But it's not really needed these days lol -
-
Well, the reason for the clean install path because of it is the most common solution for resolving weird graphic behaviors and sometimes improve performance.

Funny, I just noticed the mobility capability chart doesn't list the 6400-6700 series. -
So there we go, its NOT for us that have a 6770M then. According to the link our card family is not supported, and we have switchable graphics with an intel chip right? When I did the auto-detect on AMDs site, I got a "cant install, incompatibility" window.

And thats another thing I wonder about, WHY shouldn't we updated to the new Catalyst version and only the AMD display driver? Its never explained! Wouldn't the new catalyst version be an improvement over the old one as well as the drivers??
-
Make the story short.
Same reason why AMD doesn't provide any support for Switchables with Intel.
They have yet figured out a way make the results/improvements/issues somewhat consistent.
Also, hinder by the fact, like Nvidia, AMD can't redistribute Intel Drivers with their drivers. The workaround by releasing though OEM venders which carries their large portion of fixes in their modified Intel drivers so that both Intel and AMD play nice.
This may change, maybe end of next year.
The reason for the auto installer in the main AMD download section.
-
Since these drivers aren't technically supported, we have to keep using the old CCC so switchable graphics will actually work. CCC doesn't really change much with the newer versions. The driver is what you want anyway.
-
Ahh, I see. But stilll, the 6770M isnt listed, or is that the same reason?
-
Ok I know to only install the Driver, but on installation I can't uncheck the PX Profile Update and AMD Catalyst install manager. Are those 2 fine to install too with the drivers or should I cancel and do an uninstall of old drivers.
Right now I'm running the original drivers that the laptop game with. -
Hmm, this is pretty strange. Yesterday I played Crysis on highest settings (Very High, and 1680x1050, vsync turned on) and I had smooth gameplay. Today (after installing Stalker and its patch and unchecking a bunch of HP and Bluetooth stuff in the autostart menu) Im gettting very jerky play on the same settings. SO I did the auto config option for the graphics, and whereas before it would choose "High" on all settings, it now chose "medium". I haven't changed any AMD drivers since I played yesterday. (Ie Im still running stock)
Damn it! What could I possibly have unchecked in the autostart and services menu that would affect gameplay like that? -
After reading some of theses posts I started thinking that my system is underperforming for some reason. Id like some other opinions on my Starcraft II experience.
First of all I've got a brand new dv7t. i7 2720, 8GB, 1GB6770M. Coolsense set to "Performance", plugged in to A/C power, power setting on performance. 6770M selected in fixed mode. Ive got the new F.1A bios and the new .2000 AMD drivers.
For my Starcraft II settings: (vsync disabled)
1920 x 1080, everything on ULTRA, I was only pulling 20-25 FPS.
1920 x 1080, everything on HIGH, I'm still only pulling 30-40 FPS.
Does anyone else think this is a bit low? -
How fast are you expecting it to be?
-
After reading a couple posts I saw someone getting upwards of 55 FPS. So, somewhere in there.
-
Damn it, im embarrased to say this, but I had set the powersaving option to energy saving... the clue was that the laptop kept shutting down every 5 min of idle time. ANYWAYS.... all is good and well again, and Im glad it was down to me doing something silly, rather than, well me doing something even more stupid...
Crysis is running swimmingly again!
Well not swimmingly maybe, in the later levels i had to scale back to a lesser rez because of stuttering. -
What kind of situation are you testing this out in (ex - 1v1, 4v4, etc.)? If you are going 4v4, your frames might make sense. 1v1 would appear to be a little low though.
What I'm getting:
i7 2820, 8 GB, 2 GB 6770M
New BIOS / HP drivers with 11.5 hotfix on top
1920 x 1080 - High settings (including high textures and vsync enabled) - 40 - 60 FPS in 1v1 -
I just installed The Sims 3 on my dv7t. Somehow, I only get 35-40 fps in-game (most settings on high). That confuses me, since the game isn't very demanding and the 6770M should be able to handle it effortlessly.
Any idea guys? -
@hqt4991
u sure it is using HD6770M? try to check the GPU usage with Gpu-Z or MSI Afterburner while u playing. -
Yes, i am sure it's the 6770M.
-
are you guys mostly getting the 1gb 6770 or the 2gb?
because i think some have the 2gb of the 6770? -
The 2gb is not worth it since the extra 1GB is not really used. 128bit memory bus and it being clocked at 800 MHz is not sufficient to saturate it.
-
Its strange when I play GTA IV it runs great and its very smooth but when I run GTA IV Episodes from Liberty City firstly the switchable graphics doesn't work its always set to Intel so I have to change to static but even then the gameplay is jerky anyone else experienced this?
-
Anyone try and play dirt 3 yet? I cant get it to fullscreen everytime i use alt plus enter or edit the hardware config file the game freezes.
-
Known issue, no fix.
-
There is no fix?
-
You need to force it to use DirectX9 to play in fullscreen.
-
I have a i7-2630QM 1GB Radeon HD 6770M dv6 with 1920x1080 and I got 80+ fps on Extreme settings when I checked ctrl-alt f.
-
No need for DX9, just switch the aliasing settings in the CCC and it will go fullscreen in DX11.
