Voltage on the GPU will not change although you can rise or drop it at your discretion . I don't think you're going to have any power demand issue as I have read through many different peoples raised clocks and the common I've noticed is it hasn't needed raised and that if it has been its from 1050 to 1055 which isn't significant.

Also as a note usually those ratings are made slightly low and are also made for constant/common loads. Unless the system is at 125W all the time it shouldn't be an issue for it to occasionally jump past rating. The only thing to be concerned with is how often it happens for how long and how far past spec it is.

Pictures Below of Sapphire Trixx ATI OC.

Edit: If you still have the system open would you mind taking some good pics of things? (GPU, CPU, MB Number etc)
    Just wondering :)

I actually haven't pried open this computer yet.. Like my last computer; the "Good stuff" the CPU, GPU, etc is buried extraordinarily deep within the system.

Download the maintenance manual from HP support and you'll see what I mean.

    --------
To possibly answer my own question: I see desktop PSUs rated by efficiency as well at wattage output. Evidently 80% or 80 Gold is actually a GOOD rating?
80% sounds okay but certainly not great.. but then again I don't design PSUs.

Since, as I said, I measured 125W from the AC mains, it's possible the computer may not be receiving that much. I obviously wouldn't expect 100% efficiency, but still.. I'd rather not mutilate my power cord just to get more exacting numbers.

If I knew the PSUs efficiency though I could just multiply that by what the mains measurement was. 125W is 120V AC and just over 1 amp.. say 1.05 amps if voltage is 120V, or 1.1 Amps if voltage is 113V or so.
Surely then the computer is pulling roughly 6 amps

I don't think I need to know THAT badly.. just some thoughts.
As long as my computer's running uncomfortably hot, and I'm under 2 years warranty; and my GPU is fast enough as it; I probably won't overclock.

Besides, it isnt as stupid as having a 3gb card on Alienware gt 555ms right?

Amen. I think they do that to sucker people into thinking more memory means a better GPU than cards with 1 GB and damn those things called specifications.

Netflix using Microsoft Silverlight has an odd bug though for me.
After watching more than 3 episodes of The Office, every few seconds a frame will hang for around 600 ms until I close and restart it.

I would suspect somehow the frame buffer isn't getting cleared properly and it eats away at my 1 GB GDDR5 until completely full... then the frames hang while it deletes enough of a chunk for a few more seconds.. and repeat.

But that could just be my wild imagination.
When more serious things happen, I'm not sure who to complain to. Who really is at fault? Netflix? Microsoft? AMD? HP? Mozilla?
Samsung? (OEM of my GDDR5 modules)
It really is nothing short of miraculous things work at all sometimes.

Here are some games Ive been playing.
Note that Im running these games under a 835-975 Overclock and using 11.5b drivers, (this overclock is extremely stable, no crashes for ~4 hours of game time, with minimal temp increases, only with this driver i've noticed. I can recommend this exact setup using msi afterburner to those who want to increase performance)

    Here goes:

    Witcher 2: mixed settings:
    1366x768
Ultra settings minus ubersampling and motion blur
    2x AA, 0x AF
FPS: 28-40, 90% of game stay around 32-35

    Dragon Age 2
This is game not optimized well at all since going from high to very high (max) reduces fps for half.

    1366x768
    High settings with HD textures
SSAO enabled, 16x AF, 2x AA

    FPS: 40-50

    Mass Effect 2:
    Max settings
ini tweaks: double shadow resolution, dynamic light/shadow enabled
    16xAF, 12xAA
    fps: 40-50

overlocking gives you ~20% performance boost.

I've got The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim via Steam today.
Visually, it runs exceedingly well on my system. I'm at my native 1600 x 900,
4x AF and FXAA using default High settings with sky reflections on.

I could probably activate more, but I like how smooth it is. It doesn't look deficient in any way.

Unfortunately it seems my audio files didn't decrypt properly.. so while I was doing great all the way through the opening run-about.. first major town, all I hear is faint digital static where there should be voices.
I'm blaming Steam for this because it was likely heavily encrypted if they let anyone predownload.

Don't really know what to do if redownloading fails.
    Subtitles? (disabled by default)
So this is really killing me

Change your audio quality to 24 bit 48MHz. That fixed it for me. It's a common issue, not steam's fault.

Please try to go as high as you can with the settings. I'm trying to see what I can run. Native is 1080 but I play the lower resolution 1366 to squeeze out extra fps. I'll post settings when I can.

    I dont have black ops.

I played MW2 on everything on/high and all the other features to extra i got around 60~50 average.

Sometimes it gets down to 25 and sometimes it goes up to 200+
I use fraps to see my fps, its accurate right?

Some dude linked 11.9 ages ago.
Since I'm a nice guy I will update that link.
This should get you to the new 11.11 drivers
They should be also be installable without that annoying error AMD would give us.

Basically, you'll want to install the core driver only.
DO NOT update Catalyst Control Center or you will lose switchable graphics capability and possibly other things.

Make sure you know what you're doing

Are you guys installing these drivers on units with switchable graphics? If so, how????

EDIT: I can never install the AMD website drivers, so I either use DNA or I use the HP drivers. HP recently released new drivers.

However, this driver hasn't been working well for me at all. I uninstalled all my drivers, driversweep, restarted, then installed HP's 11.9 driver. No crashes regularly, but performance has been terrible in games. Huge FPS drops in FIFA 12 and Minecraft--almost as if it's running on the intel chip. But it's not, Fixed graphics are on, the AMD GPU is being used supposedly....

I tried updating from BIOS F1A to F1B but I still have this problem. The 11.5b drivers ran FIFA fine. What's happening here?

Hey guys I just bought a DV7 6b00 i5 2430m 6770m, my i5 2430m temperature stays in the 70s degree C when gaming i.e. Skyrim and that's with the cpu running at max 99% (turbo off), it rarely reaches over 80 degrees, is this a good thing or a bad thing? And does continuous high CPU temperature ruin the lifespan of these laptops? Thanks ahead of time!

Hey Guys!! .. I really need help..Some of my games(particularly counterstrike) doesnt stretch to fit the screen and maintains an aspect ratio of 4:3. I opened my Catalyst only to find out there are no scaling options under "desktop management". Another problem is under Desktop management i see only the option of detecting display manually/automatically but nowhere can I see my Display's properties. Also when i connect my monitor via VGA to the laptop i cannot see its properties as well in catalyst. Recently when i tried to play Need For Speed : The Run(its the same with other games) ,i wasn't getting any option to play at 75 hz or higher refresh rate. All the available resolutions were fixed @ 60hz where as my monitor is capable of 120 hz. I cant even find anywhere in catalyst the "manually detect display" button. When i have my monitor connected to the laptop both the displays are on. Shouldn't the laptop's display go off to avoid putting unnecessary load on the GPU? Can someone check this in their laptop and tell me the results? PLEASE help me .. Its really bugging me.
    Thanks in Advance!! :D

    My laptop is a Dv7tqe with 2gb 6770 and 1080p display.
Just for Info 6770m gives constant 30fps for NFS Run.
BTW i have tried the new performance driver 11.11 c from AMD and its works fine with our laptop. Although 3-4 fps dropped while playing NFS after the driver Update so i rolled backed. but u guys can try this driver with other games and see if there are any positive results

You can use this ATIGPUScalingFix to stretch the picture on old games.

Output of this model are control by Intel graphic. Try check Intel Graphic Control Panel settings.

Thanks for the reply..ati gpu scaling software worked...although scaling option in intel was fixed at "maintain aspect ratio" and yes all display properties are handled by the intel gpu. Its a weird laptop yet powerful.

I have been playing Arkham City on the DV6TQE, and although it runs 50-60 FPS generally (average) the game keeps dropping in FPS when I open a door, enter a new room, load, save, even stand still and move Camera 360 degrees. It's really bad at streaming from HDD, and this a thing I notice with all multiplatform games, while on consoles they seem to be constantly streaming from disk or HDD, on PC they just stop using the HDD until they need to access something.
    Why? Why? Come on.
It's not just me other people also have this issue.
Just wanted to ask if there was anything we could do on the HP's.
Like for instance, is Protectsmart in anyway slowing down read times (I doubt it) and can I tell Arkham City or any other game for that matter to actively stream data.
If these games weren't so freaking huge (18 Gigs for Batman?) maybe I could look into RAMDISK?
No game has ever come close to using the 8GB of Ram we have. Anyway we could tell it to load the level there maybe, then V-RAM?

Well it's certainly good enough to have fun, here's a great resource for all mobile cards (they are listed in performance Descending order on side):
    AMD Radeon HD 6770M - Notebookcheck.net Tech
And if you've a 1080p screen, you're probably going to check the Ultra settings - for which BF3 got a 18-20 FPS I think. Depending on drivers and your personal settings, it can obviously vary.
I am trying to find what settings they consider High, Ultra ETC. Cause I can't tell if they are also changing resolutions with settings.

Ahh very nice thanks.. I think I'll just play around with the settings I'm usually a console gamer so I'm sure anything in the medium 1080p setting will blow the xbox and ps3 outta the water.. I'm getting my Dv7t qe on the 23rd and will post my findings once I receive it

This is the first PC I got for gaming and though it potent (although maybe many will say that a laptop is never a real RIG) some of the issues I run into with drivers and crashes and such make me appreciate the consoles.
But I do still love PC gaming now.
Just sometimes it's annoying to see unoptimized games.
Saint's Row 3, Arkham City both have terrible DX11 issues, so the advantage of PC is minimalized.
Although Skyrim's PC moddablility makes it all not matter.
