I'm still extremely curious as to how that guy ran enthusiast on warhead with framerates "as smooth as a baby's bottom"
-
idk maybe he was on wrong computer??? well anyways you can't expect much from a mobile GPU. Atleast on the bright side you can run other games at high FPS
-
I probably should get Crysis 2, seems to be SOOO much more optimized than both Crysis and Warhead.
-
I can say that most likely his version of smooth FPS's are different than most people. I get a max of 25-28 FPS and it jitters sometimes (especially with a lot of particle effects) but it's certainly "playable" if you ask me...
AND CRYSIS 2 is certainly the most optimized, it runs in DX9 and manages to look better than both of them (a lot of filters and lighting effects help with this) but I can't wait to see if DX11 is available for it later on.
You can run it on Advanced Settings @720p fluently. Then you might consider overclocking but it's not necessary because it looks very good. -
Does anyone know how to run games and ending explorer.exe and the Windows interface to increase performance?
-
explorer.exe is the GUI you see. Basically, if you end it, you can't really do anything unless you reboot. I think you may be able to restart it without a reboot, but it's been way too long since I last ended it.
But, if you insist on ending it, you can do so by going to the task manage and selecting it and click "end process." -
Why would you wan to end explorer.exe anyway. To add the the post ^, to restart it all you have to do is press File in the task manager --> New Task --> explorer.exe
-
Usually it starts up again after closing it. Just curious, I doubt I will be doing it cause I switch between (minimize) games while doing work and using computer. Was going to ask if there is any performance gain that's noticeable to just make Crysis a little bit more smooth (it's just a bit jittery). I don't want to install XP to see performance increases, just not worth the hassle.
-
installing XP might improve loading time but definitely not the in-game FPS so no worries
EDIT: unless, you intended to use DX9 on XP while sticking to DX10 on Win 7, then yes of course you're gonna notice a big difference in FPS. -
can battery cell bottleneck the performance?
-
Nope, it doesn't.
-
Anyone know why my Starcraft 2 FPS always stays stable (and low?) Yesterday I was ALWAYS 60 fps and now today I'm ALWAYS 30 fps...
(Low settings) -
How do you guys think the soon to be released Witcher 2 will run on this laptop?
-
What is this... 6770M spreads its wings! - techPowerUp! Forums
Are we missing something? -
Yeah, I'd like to know how we can have our spec like that. Sure, we can up the clocks, but the driver version is old on ours. And the card can run at PCI-e x16 @ x16 whereas HP has it @ x8. I think this + clocks is why we have lower pixel fill rate and bandwidth. I doubt we could do anything about the @ x8 issue though because it's the way HP manufactured the card with this notebook.
-
specced like what? our cards are perfectly capable of similar overclocking??
he simply overclocked (mostly likely by reflashing) the 6770m to 875/1125.
not to mention the 3dmark11 score isn't completely impressive - at 800/960mhz i was able to get 1760, whereas he goes all the way up to 875/1125 for a measly 37 gain to 1797. -
The PCI-express 2.0 @ x8 provides more bandwidth then you could ever use.Only high-end desktop cards like the GTX580-590 can benefit from the full 16 lanes.
On another note,i OCed my 6770m to 850/900 (can probably OC it more)and got a gpu score of 7120 on Vantage. If i increase the voltage a bit i could certainly reach 950/1200 with a bit of luck. But then again,i dont want my card to reach temps over 80-85 so i wont. -
Is that on the HP dv6qt?
-
yes it is
-
so you can provide us with some benchmarks of crysis or other games using these clocks?
-
What is the latest non-buggy driver for the 6770M? I know I'm going to lose the ability to switch between Ati and Intel grapics, but I hear the performance improvement is worth it. Anything, i.e. official/certified links, are appreciated. Thank you in advance for the help.
-
ur not going to lose the switchable graphics. i'm currently using 11.5a hotfix while still able to switch to intel. all you have to do is to install the new versions OVER the stock drivers - without uninstalling the stock drivers first.
-
How you are getting 10.5 for your HP AMD Driver when HP are offering 11.4 via Updates already?
-
why not 11.4?
-
11.5a hotfix - my bad.
-
Are there any newer versions of the display driver for the 6770M besides the one given by Windows Update?
-
i like to know the same thing, just checked amd's site and saw the 6770m was not listed as being supported in the 11.5 update.
-
i am using 11.5a
-
I had to tutor for a while so I had my technologically competent friend install 11.5a hotfix for me. I later checked my pc and did not notice any differences (the layout and version id were the same as before). I went into start->control panel->uninstall a program and saw the only thing recently installed was "ATI Catalyst Install Manager", so I am assuming he went through with the update. He said he did "the usual" (saying yes to user agreement and sticking with the recommended settings), so I'm not sure why I can't access the 11.5a CCC.
If you guys know how to access the new driver/interface, please tell me (I'm sure I'm noobishly overlooking something
). Thank you again.
-
The hotfix doesn't install Catalyst Control Center, at least not from the installation I did 2 minutes ago.
-
what does the information ---> software say in your CCC?
-
It says:
Driver Packing Version: 8.83.6.2-110412a-117442C-HP
Provider: ATI Technologies Inc.
2D Driver Version: 8.01.01.1134

Direct3D Version: 7.14.10.0817
OpenGL Version: 6.14.10.10600
Catalyst Control Center Version: 2010.1230.1709.30713 -
I know this may seem like a dumb question, but how will the dv6 compare to my desktop with a 9800 gt and a intel core 2 duo 2.2ghz?
-
I currently have Dragon Age 2 installed but i could install crysis and run the benchmark.
The 6770m is like 50-70% better than your 9800gt and the 2630qm is around 4 times better than your c2d. -
Hey im not sure if anyone was having the same annoying problem as me but ill tell you all about it anyway.
I found that when playing games (particually SC2) i would hit the F1 key and it would minimize the game and open the HP help thing. Highly annoying when all you really wanted to do was locate your idle worker.
So i had to change my Fn setting in bios, which was lame cus then my function keys took a bit more effort to use.
But i found a better fix so i could use my function keys properly and disable the F1 help.
Use the information in the following link on the file C:\windows\helppane.exe
Windows 7 – How to Delete Files Protected by TrustedInstaller
If you rename that file to something else, the F1 key wont see the file its looking for, and thus wont come up!
Hope this helps some people as i found this reeeeally annoying

Hey guys i'm looking at picking up a dv7T Quad Edition with a 2.2 i7 and the HD 6770M but I had a quick question. I have noticed some of you saying starcraft is played at around High settings on this card not ultra but I can play it on my old Nvidia 9600M GT at nearly all ultra when overclocked and mid-high when not overclocked but I thought the HD 6770M would be a way faster card compared to the 9600M GT. Soooo can anyone tell me if they think the upgrade is worth it from a graphics standpoint... I guess my biggest question is just how much better is the 6770M?
My current system specs are listed in sig and the new system is listed at link
http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/s...w&email_id=2085979&jumpid=in_r329_emailconfig
Note: Laptop Screen 1680X1050, TV Screen (play a lot of my games on it) 1366x768.
Edit: I have to say i've loved the 1680X1050 Brightview Infinity display on the DV5. Wish they had continued it for this DV7tqe... I'm hoping the resolution difference isn't to obvious I will feel boxed in lol. -
You are running HP's version of AMD 11.4 for the display driver.
The windows update only provide the driver only, not the CCC.
You have to manually update the CCC. -
I can run SC2 on max at around 50-60fps DV6TQE 6770M
-
This is just my opinion, but you may want to "downgrade" to the 640GB 7200RPM HDD.
-
3d mark Vantage 9600MGT GPU score: 1100 using gddr2 and 1400 using gddr3
3d mark Vantage 6770m GPU score:6100
Almost 6 times better and a little overclock helps bring the 6770m at 7000+.
So i guess that there is a substantial gain in performance. -
where are you seeing that? at native resolution sc2 should easily getting 30+ fps on ultra. it might dip down a bit if there is a mothership and 14124123 units on the screen, but even then it should stay 20+.

Hmm, I have the site bookmarked at home that I believe I saw it on but who knows maybe I was mistaken if everyone seems to be able to do it
Thanks for the quick response guys! Also I have considered downgrading but im planning on purchasing an SSD later on for the OS so i've decided to go with the larger size. I just don't have the cash for the ssd option right now =p
Note: Not that it makes a difference but with my GPU overclocked i've been able to reach scores of 1750ish which made me proud =p it wasn't bad for 2-3 years ago and 700 bucks aha. (my normal score without overclock was 1350 gddr2) Still the 6770m seems to be a massive improvement. Thanks! -
I tried downloading and installing CCC 11.5 from amd's website and kept getting some sort of hardware not compatible error, after a few Google searches it seems amd's software checks your hardware before it installs new driver/software updates. Is this because AMD doesn't support swicthable graphics and leaves it to HP to provide updates? If so is there a way around it?
-
Well,I as well got the 11.5a installed and along with it the new catalyst center was installed. What i did to achieve this was to uninstall the ati catalyst manager from the control panel and then use the "driver sweeper" to get any driver remnants deleted(registry entries etc.).Then I installed the HP provided amd drivers and over them installed andaroos' from guru3d 11.5 modified drivers.
Switchable graphics work like it used to.Hope this helps. -
Thanks...will try when I get home.
Rep +1 -
I really don't support using the official AMD drivers on Switchable with Intel.
I prefer people to stick with the stock HP drivers until they got a major problem.
If it ain't broke why fix it.
----
But did you try to install the CCC while using the AMD card? -
because it is broke...
you have the mouse lag bug on the top right, unoptimized performance, less stability... not to mention new games and programs are coming out all the time, and adjustment to the driver is needed to keep the system compatible with the new software... -
Well, blame HP for not releasing newer version.
Please bother them about that
It seem the mouse lag on the top right was recently introduced in the 11.5.
Also, newer updates breaks older games, a trade off of being constantly being up to date.
Update only if you need to fix something.
Also the current working HP AMD Driver offered in the update are 11.4.
8.83.6.2-110412a-117442C-HP (11.4 cause HP's starts at 0) -
i used to play sc2 on ultra settings (reflections/shadows/terrain - high) @ 1366x178
but i couldnt play properly (it got choppy) @ 3v3/4v4 + 100-150 supply, so i gave up and now i also changed the textures to high, and those extra shadows off. -

Just pulled the trigger on my dv7tqe. estimated build date June 6th (dang)
• 2nd generation Intel(R) Quad Core(TM) i7-2720QM (2.2 GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) w/Turbo Boost up to 3.3 GHz
• 1GB GDDR5 Radeon(TM) HD 6770M Graphics [HDMI, VGA]
• 8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
• 9-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery (over-sized) - Up to 9.5 hours of battery life +++
• 17.3" diagonal HD+ HP BrightView LED Display (1600 x 900)
• FREE Upgrade to Blu-ray player & SuperMulti DVD burner
• HP TrueVision HD Webcam with Integrated Digital Microphone and HP SimplePass Fingerprint Reader
• Intel 802.11b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R) with Wireless Display Support
There's the specs. Look good? I figured I could get the i7-2820 (2.3ghz with 8mb cache) but didnt think id see much of a difference if any and it cost 200 bucks so I just upgraded the ram from 6 to 8. Later on down the road I will toss an SSD in when I have the money and put the OS on it.
Anyone who has the dv7tqe have any tips or tricks for when I get it?
Edit: Meant to post this in the main thread not the gaming thread. Sooo it's in both. =p
