I believe it's Samsung MMDOE56G5MXP-0VB for the 256gb option
-
Hp's SSD option is very expensive, I would wait 6-12 months for the prices to go down before buying one and connecting it myself.
-
The ssd option will net you a very minimal energy says, I'm talking like 10 minutes tops. The advantages of the SSD are simple, fast booting fast waking from sleep and loading apps quickly.
-
dammit.. i cant decide..
comparing between i5 and i5 SB is just stupid
its almost 4 times the power
and knowing that laptops are using the new processor,,, kinda unwilling to buy obsolete model
i mean if you live in the us.. sure get it enjoy it and when SB comes return it
but for me from kuwait its not that simple -
-
i mean i read the benchmarks and was blown away
toshipa has it with usb 3.0 in its models
Sony F series is getting it too
once it becomes a standard your laptop value will drop like a brick -
Pulled the trigger:
i5-480m
Radiance
1 Dimm 4gb
Slice battery.
I wanted to wait for sandy bridge too but for what I am gonna use the computer for it was not a deal breaker. SC2 will probably be the most taxing thing the system will have to deal with lol. I mean the penryn chip in my current laptop is still plenty fast for what i use it for.
If it wasn't for the Radiance display, I would not have purchased this laptop. The 768p in my dell xps16 is driving me crazy, luckily the panel itself has great brightness and viewing angles. -
Btw it takes a while for a generation of CPUs to become standard. It was back in March-May 2010 when the i3s were first appearing in most laptops and the i5s/i7s were coming into the high end. Value to us techies probably will drop fast but for normal people they wont. I was able to sell my toshiba back in June with an Intel Core Duo for $300.. when i3s were going for just a bit more.. -
dunno really , i live in kuwait so ordering in the first place is kinda risky because i am going to ship it to a forwarding P.O box... so i am out of luck if it has any defects..
gotta find some one on ebay and give him 50$ for his affords in ordering it from ebay and testing it before sending it to me -
-
I am having a hard time hitting 1399 so I figure I'll do SSD upgrade...Does this SSD support TRIM?
Also does this notebook open up all the way like can lay flat with screen open? -

very 1st post from a new guy...
i fell in love with Envy 14 when my friend bought one last month.
i was leaning toward MacBook Pro 13" earlier but i changed my mind after i've seen Envy 14 in person.
last week i ordered Envy 14 with i7-740QM, 6GB ram, 500GB hdd without 1600 x 900 radiance display (not available as an option) with $500 off coupon code for a total of $950.
when i saw another $500 off coupon code for Envy 14 yesterday, i found out HP brought back 1600 x 900 radiance display option for additional $200.
so, i canceled the previous one and ordered a totally different configuration.
*** i5-460M, 4GB ram, 250GB ssd, and of course 1600 x 900 radiance display ***
it costs me a total of $1225 after $500 off. i know it's $275 more than previous one but i get ssd instead this time.
how much of performance difference between i7 and i5? because i downgraded the CPU from i7 to i5.
will i get more battery life? went from i7 with hdd to i5 with ssd.
is 1600 x 900 radiance display really worth extra $200?
p.s i actually wanted the beat edition but it doesn't offer 1600 x 900 radiance display ;( -
-
Quick question: dose the "$500 off build $1400+" dose that include Total care? Can i bump the price up $200 with, say 4 year total care? Or is it actually build/hardware items only?
-
Another quick question: Can you cancel an order and get full refund, even a few days before the estimated build date?
I might order one but I need to get it at most at feb 3rd... and current estimated build date is feb 2nd (I'd pay two-day shipping, of course). But if it doesn't ship on feb 1st, I gotta cancel... -

I had just bought my envy from the Microsoft store when they had that $799 ($850 w/ tax) deal and am really tempted to try to return it and use the $500 coupon to get an envy with a Radiance display, higher i5 processor and 6GB of RAM for a total of $980 (with tax).
Ultimately the i5-460 and 4GB I have now on is more than adequate for my needs. The only thing that is tempting me is the Radiance display...
I do some computer programming now and will be heading off to college this year majoring in computer programming. Other than that I do the usual note taking, web browsing, causal gaming and occasional movie watching with my envy. Will the extra space on a 1600x900 screen really give me significant more screen space? Should I go for the Radiance using $500 coupon?
I really stuck on what to do cause Iv heard so many amazing things about the screen but I did get a great deal by buying my envy from Microsoft and I'm not sure if I want to spend more :/ -
For the most part it is myth that ssd saves you energy. I encourage checking articles out on tomshardware.com where they go pretty in depth about why that is.
Basically the advantage to ssd is a very fast boot (my laptop boots in about 11 seconds with its ssd on win 7) and very fast load times for applications, games, etc -
). In your case it's $130 for an upgrade that's worth much more than that, and programmer to programmer, the screen real state you get from 900px height, it's quite useful. You're right about the processor though, but it's still nice to have plenty of room and be as future-proof as possible.
However, with $130 you could also get an external 19-21'' display, which I have no other choice but do. If you ask me, I'd rather have it on the Envy and take those 1600x900 anywhere.
-
NOPE!!! It does not have to be unopened. I've returned both Envy 17 3Ds played the heck out of them... So yeah, open, enjoy, JUST DON'T BREAK ANYTHING! Have fun.
KJ -
For those still wondering about the Radiance screen, GET IT WHILE YOU CAN!!! Its really a no brainer. And yes, return the other one to wherever you got it. Good luck.

for the guy in Kuwait, did you manage to get one?
i am in Qatar and HP will not accept my credit card, or any international paypal accounts (even though i have a US shipping address). such a pain!
never had problems ordering from amazon, but i want that coupon! -
For anyone else who's debating buying this thing, now that a good coupon is out... anyone know exactly how overclockable any of the i5 options are? Which would be the best bang for the buck in this case? TYIA!

Went ahead and finally ordered. Thanks for this great deal!

. I'm from Venezuela, but I have a friend in the US. The only store that accepts my credit card is Amazon, and he frequently orders from them, so I give him Amazon Gift Cards and he orders the stuff from other stores for me! Quite complex, isn't it? Americans don't know how easy they have it
Unfurtunately when I ordered my Envy last week, Radiance was only a nice memory from the past and Amazon had the better deal, so I ordered from them and live to regret it -
-
. I plan on keeping my Envy for at least 3 years (until USB3.0 becomes mainstream), and it wouldn't hurt to enjoy them with the Radiance screen. Thanks!
-
Coupon is done
I was going to pull the trigger earlier today but I chickened out. Bummer.
-
Yup, looks like the coupon is dead.
-
glad i made my move quick !!!
-
I wouldn't be surprised if they do at least another round.
-
noooooooooooooooo!
-
ah maybe the $600 coupon will come now.
-
-
500 is already pretty chunky ... but who knows.
Anyone has experience with last year's round of coupons ?
From what i saw the SB's arent a big step from the old generation, and they probably won't get coupons/promos for a while. -
-
I had the stupid thing in the cart, went to sleep so I can check my credit balance. Woke up, and the stupid thing expired!
Great, looks like the choice is easy. Brightview screen it is..... -
HEYYY! Call the sales people and they will give it to you anyway! I just put my order in! 500 off. act fast!
-
-
if you call im sure they will give it to you regardless. they want to move as many as these things as possible before the SB comes out. they did a $500 two weeks ago too so i wouldnt be surprised if they did another one again next week or something. hopefully they will offer the radiance on the beats edition this time....im sure lots of people are waiting on that.
-
-
I got the slice battery figuring I could sell it on ebay for $150....makes my discount really $650 the way I see it. I didnt even need a new computer but figured this deal was sick.
-
Yep, just missed coupon cutoff by about a few hours, called them to place the order and explained the situation, and they were very understanding
.
-
-
yeah taht's a good call. Seeing as how the ONE slice battery on ebay right now is going up real fast past $100.
For what it's worth, to the person above who posted, a big THANKS. I had given up and was scheduled to just buy one locally off CL with a brightview display but decided to call HP after I read that post and they honoured the coupon. So i have a brand spankin new HP envy with radiance and slice batt coming in for $985 shipped and taxed!
..... in a freakin month. Lol
build date feb 3, 2010, 5-7 business day shipping. 1 day of customs. I'll never see this laptop is my guess -
