shambles.ch was the 6910p also on display today? If so, what was your impression of it?
I just can't make up my mind between the 6910p and 8510p...
-
Well it's a nice machine..compact, light...
it's pretty much the same like his bigger brother (8510p). If you do some gaming, get the 8510p, if you take your notebook with you everyday and don't game, get the 6910p. But only for office work, i'd suggest you a notebook with a better screen! -
Officially ordered.

Welcome to the club Jitsun. Mine arrives next week.

This would have been the perfect notebook for me, but they had to go and stick an ATI GPU in there!

I don't have time to say much about it right now, but I managed to get the Catalyst 7.9 desktop drivers from ATI to work on the 8510p in Windows XP.
I used the HP drivers provided for XP, the 7.9s, and a modded set (using the DH Modder) to make the required changes to a few INI and INF files. That's all that is required.
There are lines that add the M76 entries from the HP drivers, as well as ADIC and adapter information. If you compare the INIs and INFs, you will see exactly where you need to copy the stuff to get setup to properly detect the card. PowerPlay still works as one would expect.
I gained a ~50% increase in World in Conflict benchmark scores, as well as 250 extra points in 3DMark06. The HP drivers only gave me about 3k, and I'm almost up to 3300 (the same as I got in Vista) with RMClock not fully releasing all the CPU to me. -
Has anyone tried the DNA Drivers to run the HD 2600 with XP? Should actually work since it's a driver for XP and supports the Mobility HD 2600...(based on Catalyst 7.5)
Would be great if anyone can try it.. -
The DNA drivers gave me the same hardware incompatibility error that the regular ones do. It was very odd, and prompted me to do the work myself.
-
Hey Sordid, how's the stability? Do you still get the blank screen from time to time? Also how exactly did you install the new drivers?
-
What did you guys do to calibrate your battery? I dont see a BIOS feature to do it.
-
I had to use a directory & file comparison utility to determine which files are altered by the mod tool, and used that to understand what parts of the HP drivers needed to be added to the 7.9 files. There's a few INI, INF, and a .DAT file (it's text only) that need to be altered. It's not that hard -- just time consuming. Lots of it was trial and error. -

Guy's how is the delivery time from date of order these days? After one week I was told 2-3 weeks. It was not orderd through HP directly but one of HP's partners. I got a great E & I price but the delay is tough.

I just received my new 8510p today! I'm very excited to try it out. It looks great...and it is much lighter than my Dell Inspiron 8600. I am going to configure for a dual boot capability. I went with www.shopblt.com and had mine in less than a week. It all looks good so far. Thanks for all the great advice.
-
does the XP pro version come with the dvds and cds of windows xp so you can clean install it also?
-
Only if you order the disks. Just to warn you ArthurofChicago, it took my 8510p about 6-7 weeks. I'm guessing this was due to it being a custom. I don't think this is the norm, or at least, I hope it's not the norm for custom orders.
-
Crossing fingers my 8510p arriving tomorrow comes with the CDs. -
Got mine since Friday
OMG
I love it
Will be posting a review in some time, depending whether I will start a new job from Monday

Mine was a custom order. The delay is my price for being picky. Hope to have the machine for at least three years so I'll put up with the delay. I was just surprised given how fast HP cranks out consumer custom models.

Has anyone already tried to oc the hd2600 gpu? Because it's underclocked, and i want to use the max. Tried to oc with atitool beta, but the screen freezes right away if changed Mhz. Is this a safety-feature from hp or the bios, or should i just try another oc-tool?
i've got a t7500, 2GB ram, vista business 32bit, 7200rpm seagate HD 120GB, WSXGA+. I'm very pleased so far. great laptop! -
ATI Tool worked for me...that's weird. I haven't really bothered o/cing too much because no games I play need it yet.

Well guys, it's here. Thank you all for the suggestions and answering my many questions before this beautiful beast arrived.
It has to be 300% better than I expected. The screen is beautiful and crystal clear, the design is sleek and stylish (far from boring!). It's running great so far -- I'm still in the initial first boot stages.
Unfortunately my mouse failed to arrive before "The Beast" was delivered to my doorstep. I'll have to use the touchpad for now until the nano makes it's way down.
It did in fact come with CDs - I was relieved to find this after I was confused whether it would ship with them included or not.
Now to wait for my 2GB RAM upgrade arriving tomorrow.
Nothing but happiness!
Edit : I don't understand the concerns over the brightness issue. My room is fairly lit as it's in the evening now, and the screen is starting to become an eyesore. It's still at factory settings so I'm not sure whether this is even 100% brightness or not -- if it isn't, yikes.. -
I think it starts at 100% brightness for the first boot, but yes I find 100 is almost too bright for general usage, so I usually run at 85-90%.

MY 8510p arrives on Wednesday (yay
) so I got a few questions:
- Can I boot up right away out of the box? Or do I have to charge the battery first before booting? Can I boot without the battery?
- Do I really have to burn those recovery dvds? I mean are they any useful since I'm gonna do a clean install (vista) right away.
- What HP drivers are necessary? And are they included with the notebook?
- I read that the catalyst drivers aren't updated in a while. Will the modtool from http://www.driverheaven.net/ be enough to mod the catalyst drivers and get the same performance as the desktop cards? -
You can boot right away. You can boot without the battery. It doesn't need to be charged.
Your 8510p should come with all DVDs, you don't need to burn anything.
All drivers are included with the notebook. The only one I'd recommend updating is the video card drivers. Yes you can use that mod tool for the Vista drivers and get better performance.
The review in my signature might answer any other questions you have! Enjoy -
Finally, it´s here!!! Just to remember:
- T7800 2.6GHz
- 4GB RAM
- 120GB, 7200RPM
- 1680x1050
- BluRay drive
- Windows Vista Business, 32bit
Some preliminary benchmarks, with original drivers:
WEI: 5.0 (Processor - 5.4 / Memory - 5.0 / Aero Graphics - 5.9 / Gaming graphics - 5.1 / HDD - 5.2)
PCMark05: 5964 (CPU - 6410 / Memory - 5127 / Graphics - 5743 / HDD - 4323)
3DMark06: 3189 (SM2.0 - 1045 / SM3.0 - 1323 / CPU - 2269)
Kind of disappointed with the 3dMark06... -
Do these have LED back lit screens?
-
b_costa: Both those scores are definitely low. Update drivers asap!
My 8510p got 7017 for 3dmark05 and 3312 for 06...
Scoo: As of right now I think the only 15.4" laptop with LED is the MBP. -
Ackeron, 3 questions:
1 - When you say "both those scores", do you mean PCMark05 and 3DMark06? I agree that 3DMark is low, but was convinced that PCMark05 was pretty good...?
2 - I do not find any updated drivers for the HD2600. Do you mean tweaking the ones that I have?
3 - If I´m able to find updated drivers, how would you recommend me to install it? Over the old drivers? Or, uninstall first the old drivers and then install the new ones?
THANKS! -
Ive noticed a small thing yesterday. Was installing Ati Tray Tools to check upon the card and while in Dynamic Switching Mode [using NHC 2] the graphic card clocks are very very low. I believe that they go up in Max Performance Mode. Havent run the test yet, but PES2008 demo is smooth as butter

A Blu-Ray drive?
HP told me they aren't available yet and that they come with the next generation...How much have you paid if i may ask? Especially how much for the Blu-Ray option... -

Whoohoo I'm finally getting my own 8510P with following specs:
T7500, 2GB ram (2 sticks), 120GB 7200rpm HDD, 15,4" WSXGA+
for 1373€ which is quite a good price for europe. -
I received my 8510p last monday.
The specs: T7500, 2GB RAM (2 sticks), 120GB 7200rpm HDD, 15,4" WSXGA+,
I first removed the pre-installed partition(don't like bloatware) and I did a clean Vista Business install, ran Windows Update and installed all necessary drivers from hp.com
Today I uninstalled the H2600 graphic driver from HP and installed a more recent graphic driver from ATI. I followed the instructions on http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool/
This evening I will run some benchmarks like 3DMark06.
Here's my WEI (in Dutch):
-
b_costa: Sorry! For some reason I read your PCmark score to be 3dmark05!
Yes in that case it's very good
Also if you follow carlieta's instructions you will be able to get the latest drivers from ATI. HP says they'll keep up to date on driver releases but I don't believe them -
-
Sorry, I'm often too lazy to quote multiple posts when replying

It's underclocked GDDR3, HP has it at a stock 450(900). I believe ATI clocks GDDR3 anywhere from 500-650 at stock (I don't know specifically about the HD2600, but it's probably 550 or so).
-
from what i hear these cards are grossly underclocked. something like half.
-
All of you who own this notebook.
I've read that some think the screen is lacking in brightness and brightness uniformity. Do you see this issue with your notebooks? -
-
Finally got my 8510p and I love it
. Although I only get 3222 3dmark06 points but I think that's mostly with the crappy driver support (using modded 7.9 hotfix drivers atm + a non clean install of vista). Besides from that I'm more happy then ever!
HP 8510p available!
