Success!! Thought I'd share what I did just in case others run into the same
issue. I indeed did previously install UAA and SoundMax drivers, not sure
why it didn't take the first time. Anyhow...
-Remove SoundMax via Add/Remove Programs
-Remove UAA registry keys per http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888111
-Install UAA and SoundMax from HP driver DVD. I selected the order in which
they're presented
-At some point in the install, either UAA or SoundMax, there's a prompt
window hidden behind the HP progress GUI. Confirmed the location of
the driver files.
-Install completes, reboot..
So the end effect, HP patch sp37136 (without HDMI) + UAA + SoundMax.
Cheers,

Ok. So. My sotry with XP is as follows
bear in mind that I bough this laptop with Vista Business!!
Ive installed Vista, creating 3 partitions, 1 for Vista, 2 for XP, 3 for rest of my stuff.
After installing Vista and configuring that, I put my XP disk with slipstreamed SATA drivers in, installed it and started installing drivers I had downloaded from HP website before installation.
I always leave graphic drivers as the last one since they are being changed quite often so I could run my Norton Ghost to recover to a fully customized installation without graphic drivers to play around with new version when it comes out.
I only had what I downloaded and installed everything apart from graphic driver and I had couple of things left as 'unknown device' and that was my problem. Also on the website there was no drivers for HP fingerprint reader, but when I tried installing drivers from Vista it worked
So at the moment I only have either one - or two, but 99% one 'unknown device' that I cant find driveres anywhere and dont even know what it is.
And BTW. Omega driveres are said to work with mobile cards but they dont, at least not our HD2600. I tired modding didnt help. Yet the ATi 7.10 for XP modded with DH modtool work ok. also what is that UAA in your description? I only istalled Sound Max and I had sound.
After I finished with XP i popped my Vista disk to boot from it and repaired my MBR to be able to boot to Vista. After that is just using small tool to get both systems bootable and to be able to choose which one to boot to -
The Omega Drivers v3.8.421 are ready!
They are based on the Official ATI Catalyst 7.10 drivers, but unlike them, these will work with AGP cards just fine, plus added support for a lot of other cards that where not present in my drivers before (like the x1950 AGP, Mobility HD2600 and many more).
If the drivers never installed in your card before try them now, if they still don't install please email me and I will gladly add support for it in my next release.
Go to the ATI Radeon section and take a look at the Readme while downloading so you know the latest changes, additions to this set and some important notes.
Enjoy!
P.S.
No, no Vista drivers yet, I hate Vista so far, I will work on them thou, eventually...

Monitor resolution question.
My 8510 screen res is supposed to be 1680 x 1050.
Why is this not an option I see under Vista. The Max resoultion setting is 1400 x 1050 which is not a wide screen config.
When I check the property options for default monitors, 1680 was not an option.
Am I missing something? Does it matter- seems like it should result in something less then an optimal screen view.
Am I alone in this? [/I] -
Great Ackeron! Thanks for letting know everybody
Ill test them today/tomorrow.
BTW. Could somebody who has got XP working with all drivers installed give me alist of what he can see in device manager?? screenshots possibly - all trees expanded. -
Destiny: Here's some screenshots I took. http://www.sendspace.com/file/h2czfh
I haven't done this before so tell me if they came out okay. Use either Windows clipboard or infranview to look at the shots. If you know of a better way then using windows built in print screen function, then let me know and I'll use that. The only issue I had was with the smartcard reader, this was because I didn't install those drivers. I will never use the smartcard reader so I just disabled it, hence is why you don't see a driver error or anything like that. btw I was meaning to post this a while ago, but I kept forgetting.
Arthur: Have you installed the ATI display driver? -
ArthurofChicago Notebook Consultant
No ATI driver Jin. Were you thinking it might help or be the cause of the problem??
The only thing I did was reinstall Vista Business and then reinstalled the systems disc w/o Norton. Both disc's supplied by HP. I also down loaded all the HP & Microsoft updates.
Everything else seems normal on the computer - though I could easily be overlooking a problem as I am not that familiar with Vista. -
Try the HP video driver and just install the display driver and the NET 2.0 if you don't have it. I think that's what you're missing. Here's a link to the ATI 2600 drivers for Windows Vista Business 32 bit: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ob-53242-1

Jin - Thank you!
Worked like a charm. 1st download did not bite, tried it again and it took.
1 rep point on this one, you saved me alot of time & effort with your spot on reply. -
Glad to help.
-
Jin07, thanks a lot for them. Although I cant open them in Picture Viewer and ACDSee doesnt recognize it :/ I guess I will have to get Irfan View then...
Thanks again anyway! Rep added! -
You could also try to open them with clipboard built into windows. To access it:
1. Go to start menu
2. Click on run
3. Type in clipbrd and press enter
4. This should bring up clipboard.
5. Then just do file open and select the file
Irfanview is a pretty good image viewer though. -
Hi all, I just received my 8510p and wondering how long do I have to charge the battery for the first time? Because for cellphones, folks recommend to charge the battery for 8 hours (first charge). Does that apply to notebook battery too?
Many thanks for the advices to allow me to find such a nice laptop, -
I don't remember it taking nearly that long. It was probably similar to a regular charge for me. I think that's about 3-4 hours. I'm not sure since I usually don't pay attention to that stuff.

Is there a driver for fingerprint scanner on WinXp?
-
I used the one from Vista and it worked
-
Help is appreciated.
Many thanks. -
One more thing, I am using the newest ATI driver and then mod it with DH mobility modder. And I experienced artifact every now and then (haven't test it in games yet but definitely when using windows). Is that normal or is my video card messed up?
Many thanks. -
I have the same problem with drivers on XP. I still dont know what is that one unknown device, and unlucky my XP bootloader crashed and I cant run it. I have to repair it with CD, yet I just dont have time now, so Im still on Vista
My laptop came with Vista so I had it from this driver CD. -
Has anyone figured out what disks come with the laptop? I've read two different accounts of this: the review here says "- HP supplies clean Vista DVDs.", whereas I've seen some posts of people saying they came with not CDs. Also, I contacted EuclidComputers and they said the laptop doesn't come with any CD's - everything is on the hard disk.
Might it be a difference between laptops directly from HP and laptops from resellers? -
ArthurofChicago Notebook Consultant
On a custom order you get two disc's (on selection and payment) 1) OS 2) Vista or XP. The OS disc gives you options to check off on certain items before loading such as Norton. The Vista disc is HP proprietary in some fashion. You can't use it as an upgrade disc for example.

Docking station question.
Will the consumer notebook Quick Dock work with the 8510p.

Any favored solutions for those who have one? -

I got 2x2gb dual channel OCZ memory, but the HP 8510p only sees 3gb with both 2gb sodimms inserted.
So I pulled 1 out one 2gb and put the 1gb it came with back in.
It still sees 3gb.
The o.s. is windows xp. I am assuming this the max xp pro can see? -
XP and Vista 32-bit can only see (and thus use) around 3-3.5 GB of RAM.
If you want to be able to use all 4 you have to use XP or Vista 64-bit. But XP 64 is (or was, supposedly) buggy and had no driver support. Dunno about how it is now. -
Anyone know where I can get these, the latest version of Fedora I am trying to install does not list any Intel Sata drivers or ICH8 drivers
-
For those wanting Fedora (red hat consumer) Linux, Fedora Core 8 was released a few days ago.
It will hang when installing on the 8510p
at the line
/sbin/loader
workaround:
hit tab at the graphic screen install on bootup
and append the following text exactly after 1 space at the end of the "vmlinux etc etc" line
text Code:
floppy.allowed_drive_mask=0 clocksource=acpi_pm
Then it recoginizes the sata hard drives, usb mice and everything and installs without a hitch.
I had it up and running playing around with GNOME in about 20-25 minutes.
I have the Hitachi 200gb sata drive with 16mb cache so it flies pretty fast, depending on what you choose to install it could take less or more time.
I spent about 4 hours on this and found the fix posted by someone else.
I never could get Fedora Core 7 to work, there is a problem with recognizing the intel 965p chipset used in the 8510p.
The good news is, the 64 bit Linux should see and be able to use 4gb on the 8510p I am hoping.
update:
The 64bit version of Fedora Core 8 installed with NO changes to the command line or boot disc completely by itself without errors. So it does not require the above help , that the 32 bit Fedora Core 8 does. -
i just received my hp 8510p today
it has vista business installed
it came with the following cds:
1. application and driver recovery DVD for Windows Vista
2. application and driver recovery DVD
3. operating system DVD Windows Vista Business
4. operating system DVD windows vista business
5. operating system CD XP pro sp2
First of all I am confused about what each cd is for, second why is there 2 dvds for the same thing (is it part1 and part2 or something)
and my main objective is to install xp pro, should i download all the drivers from here http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...sId=3355678&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=1093 or from the cd 2.
thanks a lot for any help i can get...
edit: and what is the best video card drivers and sound drivers to get? -
U have got 32 and 64 bit versions of Vista so the drivers cds are the same way.
where did U buy it?? -
bought from canada
can you help me out with the rest of my questions? -
Check text on each CD to find out if You have drivers for XP. If not You will have to download them from that website.
Sound drivers - Windows Update ones are probably newest? Is this really such a concern for You??
For Vista download the Driver Heaven Mod Tool and You can update drivers to Ati 7.10. They seems to be best avaiable at the mo. -
FYI, I got three OS install disks:
Vista 32 Bit
Vista 64 Bit
XP SP2
Got it from EuclidComputers. -
is there different video drivers for windows xp? (i mean in terms of the latest for gaming) -
i did not have any sound problems, yet I installed audio drivers first and then Ati
drivers with their sound drivers.
Check Ati's website. -

After fighting multiple software glitches including numerous "blue screen" error messages on my own, I gave up and called HP tech support. The 2nd guy I talked to was cool, asked me everything I had done to fix the problem and then told me I probably had a bad system board - which contains the ATI graphics card (or so I am told). Lucky for me I spent the extra $ on accidental damage protection and next day on site repair.
Q. Anything I should be careful of when tech support appears at my office on Tuesday? I recall Greg had some serious issues with his tech support "help".
As a comment on HP tech support. The 1st guy was cleary a rookie looking up every move in a manual but the 2nd was fairly well versed on the issues.
I'll report back if the fix works. I know I am not alone, the same issue and apparent fix was reported on HP's official chat forum -
I think Greg just said you have the right to refuse service if the guy is clearly a noob. But you can check his Lemon thread for more info
Hope things go well, GL!
(also, are you on XP or Vista?) -
My guy seems to be very good. First of all he noticed strait a away that they gave them the wrong part so at least he did not put the wrong mobo in lol
He is coming in an hour with a new one so well see
I was talking to him and he seems to have at least 5 years of experience so im not worried to much. We'll see -

The fun begins. - My upgraded warranty includes next business day support.....except when HP can't deliver.
I had a message this morning that the part (the systems board which includes the graphics card) was on back order and it would be three to five days before they knew the status. I had a fruitless chat with a higher up who basically said he knew nothing but would document my complaint. He did indicate that his hands were tied for five days. I hope I am not asking for additional relief this Friday.
I am very surprised that HP apparently does not maintain a stocked parts warehouse, anywhere, to support their pledge for next business day support. Yes, I am aware of the HP out clause for unavailable parts. However, I do believe HP has a legal & ethical obligation to take reasonable business steps to proactively support their next business day warranty.
I would have hoped that some one in HP would be monitoring the parts situation and ordering more as their stock gets low. And more to the point, if they are running low to have put in a reorder and at least be able to state with some certainty when a part can be expected.
I can live with a reasonable delay – things happen. - The uncertainty is not acceptable from a business perspective and something HP could prevent.
Ackeron - Vista 32 bit. -
I totally agree. But when in my case they send the wrong part Ive been told that it can take couple of good days before they will know when its going to be coming. I had the 'repair' on thursday I think, and on Friday Ive been called that the part has been shipped and engineer will arrive again on Monday. That was sent from Netherlands. Today my laptop is fixed
Beautiful

Thanks for the info Arthur, and good luck to you two!

The saga continues.
Last week I was told, on my inquiry, that the part was in Chicago and I would be called to arrange an appointment to install the systems board.
No call - surprise. So today (Monday) I am told oops, the part never even shipped.
The customer care specialist, whom I had already involved refused to escalate this matter to a Call Back Specialist even after confirming that I had been misinformed.
Nice guy that he is, the customer care specialist will consider escalating the matter this Wednesday depending on whether a new eta for the part is obtained by the group that handles warranty work. It appears that my desire to put an end date to this saga finally sunk in. If an eta is provided, we still may have a discussion on what is a reasonable eta, hopefully not.
I should not have to be reminding HP that I have an on site next business day service warranty. Aside from liking the machine, a key reason for the purchase was the promise of limited down time in the event of a problem. Frankly I am surprised. On the consumer side HP has sent me $100.00 certificates for unanticipated problems when I have not complained.
I expected a response from HP which understands the expectations of a business customer. I have not yet asked for compensation for the inconvenience and down time, all I have sought is a date certain to end this silliness. I'll up date this tale later in the week.
The nightmare scenario is that the part, once found and installed doesn't solve the problem and the cycle starts all over. My fingers are crossed. -
Ugh that sucks
I know Greg called them over and over until he got someone who could help...but man, I pray my machine never screws up.
ON THAT NOTE...I got an HDMI cable and hooked it up to my TV and the output colours are nothing but shades of red. BLAH!
I tested the cable with a cable box and the TV and it's fine, so my 8510p is the problem
I think I might have to install the catalyst control panel...oh well. -
That's odd, it should just need plugging in. You shouldn't need CCC for the HDMI to work. I'm guessing you used the same TV input both times? Have you checked your TV settings? Maybe when it got a laptop signal it had a standard settings for laptops that were messed up. You might want to read your TV user manual. I remember there was a section specifically for computer/laptop hook-ups, though I didn't need it thankfully. How's your laptop screen during this?
-
We tried both HDMI 1 and HDMI 2 and got nothing but red colours both times, and we messed around in the TV settings for awhile, but no luck. I'll check the manual too though, thanks.
-
Have you checked the display properties in windows?
-
(I didn't even have time to install the latest Cats + CCC today either)

The saga continues. Two weeks and one day into next business day support. [The clock started on 11-25-07 when I was told that the system board needs to be replaced and the part & tech would be in my office on 11-27-07. Previously I been told it was a software issue.]
11-29-07 HP told me on the part was in Chicago.
12-03-07 HP admits no part and know idea when new one will arrive. Request to escalate denied again.
12-06-07 HP tells me part is in the Chicago & I will be called. Silence. I call HP and the escalation specialist has Costa Rican support confirm that I will be called the next day and have my computer repaired.
12-07-07 No call but the escalation specialist is able to prod the 3rd party support enough to that I receive a late phone call and then a tech ...appears.
12-07-07 Oops wrong @#$%^ part. Tech guy seemed ok and has experience, just not with the 8510p model. Good for those who have 8510p's, as tech tells me he has had almost no calls for support for the 8510. Bad for me as the tech guy tells me he has never opened up an 8510p before. He is supposed try and track down the part & call. I print up the 8510p manual for his use in case he locates the part. No call.
12-07-07 I call back to Case Customer Relations - Leo C. tells me an engineer will call me back w/in 24-48 hours about a possible replacement computer.
12-10-07 No call received. I call in and then receive a call back from Minok who tells me the part remains on back order but he has a better part for me and it can be installed 12-11-07. OK, I say after being assured it as good or better then the part being replaced. Yes, I am told it can handle DirectX10. Not being a total fool, I do get the HP part number which is 411920-001
http://h20141.www2.hp.com/hpparts/S...mpid=hpr_R1002_USEN&SearchCriteria=411920-001
12-10-07 Now I am really p'od. There is no discreet graphics card, instead there is 2 year old technology inside. The Intel integrated GMA 900, which is only DirectX9. .Boy, I must have sounded really dumb.
12-10-07 I call HP corporate and am transferred to HP's American Customer Satisfaction Center. Which is really the same escalation center that I had been dealing with before. I am once again told that an engineer will call me about a possible replacement computer within 24 to 48 hours.
12-10-07 I am waiting.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
WTF!! You really dont have luck my friend.
My computer after 1st repair is still doing what it was - crashes etc. I blame the faulty HD2600 as it mainly happens when doing gfx related task. No matter - Vista or XP. At least my PES08 doesnt crash too many times now
I took some pictures an video of the way it crashed. Just as a backup. As it happened over the weekend and no tech support was available I gave them a call today. 10 min conversation and for my convenience they will arrange the replacement of motherboard [again] and upon my request [I actually wanted only HD2600 replaced] the graphic card.
Im supposed to be called tomorrow about convenient time for me for the repairLast time it was the next day
Thank god for Business support in UK. God save the Queen
But I can give You even better story about dealing with HP for Home users... I might actually make a new thread
BTW. What kind of problems did You have?? Dont You need HD2600 replaced??
HP 8510p available!
