I believe it will be delivered around September the 1st..

Could you perhaps do a 3dMark 06 benchmark, and perhaps some game benchmarks? Also pictures of the screen are highly appreciated!

Sry if i'm demanding, i'm just excited!

Thats a great windows experience score. Based soley off of that, the graphics are better than the GDDR2 version of the 8600gt, and almost on par with the GDDR3 8600gt. Seems like the HD2600 is a worthy competitor after all....based off the WEI of course.

Well, I don't put much stock in WEI. Period.

I've had it tell me a X1300 was better than my X1600, and also a 8400M-G was as fast as my X1600. Oh, and apparently it thought my card was as good as a 7900GS too. :p

Seriously, that isn't an industry benchmark. 3dMark is :p.

Agreed with Greg...WTB some benchmarks good sir :)

Also, people are saying DX10 GPU 3dmark06 (or maybe just 3dmark in general?) scores are artificially high. BUT I guess if we're just looking at DX10 cards, it's all relative, right?

Edit: confirmation of GDDR3 in the HD 2600 would also be great. Rivatuner is useless though, and I doubt you could use ntune either :p Not sure what program would work for the Radeon...

So I know there has been some mention of this before. Why the heck is it so much more expensive to configure an 8510p??? I mean I know the business reasons behind it, but it's kinda crazy. I like everything in the base model except the WSXGA+; I'd rather have a WXGA or WXGA+ (for better gaming performance and I think WSXGA+ is too much real estate for a 15.4"). To get a less expensive screen I have to pay $300 more. Am I doing something wrong here? Any ideas if the configurable models will drop in price?

The base models in the sub $1500 range are what HP calls "Smart Buys". These are already discounted internally up arouns the 20% mark before they hit the web. The Smart Buys cannot be discounted any further even if you call direct.

The configurable models are list price and can be discounted if you were to call HP direct. For a single unit, you might be looking at a discount close to 20% if you were to push them. I doubt these list prices will change much over time, but the amount the reps are allowed to discount may increase over time and HPs cost on components changes.

Thanks for the reply and the info fattire.

Anyone on here purchase a 8510p with a like configuration of the base smart buy except with the lower resolution screen (WXGA)? Can you tell me what you paid?

Any info appreciated; I like to make sure I have as much infomation as possible regarding price before I make the call to purchase this notebook.

    Thanks in advance!

I don't know if others have gotten theirs, but it looks like mine will not be coming this week :( So far there's only been one guy who seems to have it. Unfortunately, he only made like 1 or 2 posts and that was it. All he posted was the WEI which is completely and utterly worthless. I don't know why people use that for benchmarks because it's not one.

Hey, I ordered the 8510p as well. I was wondering, does hp always use that annoying hp recovery partition thing? I bought an hp desktop a long time ago, and they gave me that partition but no system CD, which was total bull. If they are gonna partition, will they include the CD? (btw I ordered with Vista business)

Wow...this is insanity. I feel like we're entering t61p delay territory here. If this is true I'm royally #$&%ed for school.

Although if that guy in HK has his...then I'm hoping its just a part delay, and nothing is defective/screwed up.

Yeah, the only time they give you a CD now is if you ordered it.

On another note, they really don't make it easy to buy laptops these days. I want to give you my money for a laptop which should be available, but you can't make it. That doesn't make sense.

The only company I know of that gives you the actual Installation CDs or DVDs is Dell, but then that's about THE ONLY THING they're doing right at this point, in my opinion... Inexcusable delays... poor customer service from presales, to sales, to technical support... Current admissions that they also had financial indiscretions over the past few years (they claim due to insufficient staff in their financial department). If you ask me, the insufficient staffing is SYSTEMIC with them.

They're just toying with us at this point. I have no idea what the chances are that you could get your notebook on time. It depends on how bad these delays are.

Huh, this is weird. My bank account isn't showing that HP has charged me, but my available balance does reflect the laptop. I don't think HP charges you until they send it...

I know that when you charge something on a credit card that while a charge may not have been made (because it did not ship yet), it will "reserve" the amount needed for the purchase. Perhaps this is the same with your bank account. I hope I am wrong, but I hate seeing people getting their hopes up only to be let down by the Manufacturer. I haven't even purchased this notebook yet and I am caught up in the hype.

No, I believe you're right. But I'm basically using my bank account to tell me when it has shipped since HP won't let me log in and check myself. It pisses me off when I tried to change my password it gave me a blank temporary password so now I can't check anything.

Okay...I ordered my 8510p on the 21st. I just went on the hp website and checked its status, and it says on the top of the "view details" page: Your order has been cancelled.

    Anyone else getting this?

    Im seriously pissed off now.

EDIT: Nvm, I have a feeling this cancellation is due to the fact that I am in a very wierd location situation where my shipping destination and billing address are different.

    Rut Roh!

This thread is starting to look like the "Official Inspiron 1720 Owners" thread over on the Dell Forum.

I've been following this thread for some reason I can't even recall, but I got interested in it at some point, and then I saw folks here were having similar shipping problems to what folks are on the Inspiron 1720s (although not in anywhere NEAR the numbers)... I was vacillating between a 1720 and the HP dv9500t and Dell's total incompetence in getting those 1720s shipped really helped me finally make my mind up (that plus my ongoing tech support issues with them on my current, 9-month-old desktop system).

At any rate, I've been REALLY raking Dell over the coals over on that thread... Sure hope none of those folks have gotten over here and seen THIS thread, lol (although I'm the first to admit I've had issues with HP in the past, too).

I have to say Dell and HP are sort of like the Republicans and the Democrats... a lot of us really wish there was a VIABLE third choice!

Yeah, I see it... lol. Well, Dell deserves some flak. I like Dell's new Inspiron designs (at least somewhat), and who can argue with their prices or with the fact that they include Windows discs and let you opt out of the bloatware... but they do look incompetent with their grainy screens, light leakage, headphone jack noise, wobbly batteries, and shipping delays. I think Michael Dell has been improving things over there, but I think they still have a ways to go.

As far as HP is concerned... I wouldn't touch their Pavilions personally, but I do like their business line. Too bad the 8510p seems to be having delays. ;)

Well...HP.come now says my order would ship 9/9/2007 if I bought one today. Guess that supports the 2-3 week delay mail people have been getting. SIGH.

Also, my supplier was supposed to receive a shipment today, but of course they didn't. Haven't heard a thing--so that backs up the delay crap too. Guess I'll see you guys in 2-3 weeks.

On the bright side, if Lenovo gets a 15.4" WSXGA+ T61p out before the 8510p, I'm jumping ship so fast...

Exciting! I hope it isn't a joke, for your sake. Keep us updated :)

(Mine is unfortunatly still pending, with no ESD and no way of tracking, because i ordered through some academical institution. All i have is a : "Under normal circumstances, it will be delivered begin September...". And of course no normal circumstances because of the shipping delays of HP. *sigh*)

*edit* jin07, that would be so cruel! :s

Well I haven't been active this last week because I just moved to where I'll be attending grad school; however, my HP problems have become worse. I originally ordered the 8510p on the 6th of August in the morning with an ESD of the 11th. Well that didn't happen, and then it was pushed back to the 16th, not a huge problem.

I called HP SMB on Friday, the 17th, and they had no clue why it didn't ship, but were in contact with their warehouse to show at the latest it would ship by the 20th. Well we have all heard that before, with a system that was "Coming Soon" since the end of May. I then called on the 20th, they said my system would be leaving ASAP and my Sales Rep would send me a tracking number when it became available. A day later, I received a wonderful email as someone else did in this forum, saying it would be delayed again for no reason.

So I called SMB yesterday, the 23rd, and I had to call them 6 times just to be connected with someone who had any clue what they were doing. So this nice CSR contacted the warehouse, but to no avail, HP's lines were down and she had to IM the person she was trying to communicate with. She told me that some would ship the 23rd and a warehouse rep would call me on my cell that night to see if I would get one (I did get free overnight shipping).

I got a call last night saying that they didn't get any off the line and the soonest some would arrive would be in two shipments, either the 31st or the 4th of September. I am now just at a loss what to do, any advice? I was planning on two weeks to have it by Monday (The 27th) so I could start classes with the rig. Now, it looks as if I would be subjected to a B&M computer. I've ordered with HP before and have never had this much trouble, my dv8000 even shipped early last time. Any ideas, guys? Bueller...Bueller?

    eli,

I was also told August 31 at the earliest, but perhaps as late as September 9.

I hope this isn't turning into a lenovo sized delay. Eli, I'd wait and hope it ships early. If it doesn't, which looks like will happen, then just send it to your school or get it from your house if you don't live far away.

The most depressing thing is that I've ruled out every other notebook but the 8510p and the T61p. So I guess whoever gets their @($# together first ends up with my money.

Yeah Ackeron, those were my top two choices as well. I finally picked the HP because one, I've had several HP's, and knock on wood, they have not been subject to anything horrible. Secondly, the ESD of the HP was supposedly in a week. But we will see how this all pans out.

You'd probably have better luck getting your hands on an Asus V1s.
