I seriously considered it, but the V1s is $2000 in CanadaFurthermore I'd have to spend an additional $150 to get a third year on the warranty (believe me, if I had the money I'd have bought a G1s-A1 ages ago). With the T61p/8510p configs I'm looking at, the price is anywhere from 1400-1600 USD.
Also the V1s has the exhaust port on the right side, which drives me nuts!![]()

Seriously, because who likes to have a vent blow hot air onto your hand the whole time. Although I definitely seriously considered the V1s as well.

So apparently there was a computer error in HP's system so they had to cancel my 8510p and resubmit the order...Now while bad, there's two things that are worse.
1. This happened a week ago and I wasn't told nor have they finished the laptop.
2. I've called HP a couple times now and they haven't been able to contact the warehouse where it's being built.
Ugh. -
-
Good News Lads.. my 8510p arrived yesterday as stated by HP. It took only 2 shipping days to get from China to New York! I spent about 2 hours last night going through the HP installation/configuration and downloading Windows Updates (I have XP). Tonight I'll try to run a few benchmarks and do a battery test. But so far aside from a few minor aesthetic quirks, it looks like a good machine.
-
Exciting! Looking forward to your benchmarks. I have some questions though:
-What type of screen do you have (WSXGA+ ?)
-How's the brighness?
-Any pics ?
Anyway, have fun with your laptop, i know i would.. (hoping for next week, though i only have a "normally begin september" from my dealer)
-
Yes, I have the WSXGA+. So far screen looks bright and had good colors. No dead pixels (that I've seen).

I have almost the same system except that i have 2 GB ram and 120 GB 5400rpm drive. And windows vista basic (i still have a license for Windows Vista Ultimate for one pc, so i'm putting that on as soon as my laptop arrives)
By the way, what does the 0 mean in 3/3/0 Year WorldWide Limited Warranty? I upgraded to 3/3/3 because it was free -
-
Woo benchmarks.
How's the cooling system and the battery? -
-
Nice! Mine should ship Thursday...
/knock on wood
/cross fingers
/rub rabbit's foot
edit: There was an early shipment to Texas! Shipping today :O -
Ahh that explains why my HP 8510w that I ordered from newegg is coming Texas.
-
Good news all around! Mine shipped today as well!
/After his lucky charms. -
Are these all preconfig 8510ps?
-
Can somebody run Everest and tell us what DDRs is HP putting with theri 2600, please??
-
Or just give clock speeds?
-
Yes, mine is a preconfig. Shipped today around 4:30 EST via 2 day FedEx.
I should specify however I bought from a reseller, who was supposed to receive a full shipment August 23. They updated their receiving date to August 30, but apparently got an advance shipment to cover preorders today
Edit: Yup, tracking number up--Thursday by 4:30 PST :O -
Another preconfig here. Order placed at 12:04 AM 8/28, estimated delivery: 8/29 by 10:30 AM. It doesn't get much better than that!
(So much for the 9/16 estimated delivery date...) -
Here's a very rudimentary battery test: With the factory default settings (XP Pro, bluetooth on, wireless on) I just watched 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' -- 2:10min, watching at full screen with audio volume at 50%. Battery reads 15% left after the end of the movie.
-
Wow. So I'd guess 4+ hours while doing office/work/school stuff then. Nice.
How's the screen?
edit: err, I mean after watching the movie, do you have anything more to add over your initial screen impressions ? -
Ive just noticed on the HP.com website that they actually say that 8510p comes with Ati 2600 WITH GDDRIII memory
-
Kewl
. This HD 2600 might be actually quite good performance wise. Perhaps even better than the ddr2 version of the 8600m GT.. *wishfull thinking*
*sigh* All this news about the HP 8510p makes me want it even more. And I still have no clue when it will arrive -
Have u ordered one??
Does anybody know where is it possible to buy a custom version but not from HP directly?? coz the prize goes up like hell there. Oh, and one more? what is a actuall difference coz they are listing 2 pre build models on their webiste with the same prize?? -

For those that have received/will be receiving their new lappies; I'd be curious to know how good/bad games look at lower resolutions. One of my concerns with the "Smart Buy" configs is that the WSXGA+ will be tough to drive with more demanding games at native resolution (not to mention small text when working on it). I don't like the WXGA screen either (would love a WXGA+) but everthing else on this notebook looks sooooo good, I think its the choice for me.
Thanks for the help and replies...and congrats to those with their new toys -
Where except the HP website can U buy it??
-

Im in UK, yet I will be buying in US.
-
Arg. Apparently, they've had to rebook the order THREE times now. AND I still don't have any shipping information
-
Just wanted to let everyone know the reseller I bought my 8510p from has more in stock again.
http://www.shopblt.com/cgi-bin/shop...1000100U014_BN28031P.shtml&order_id=585361896
Much better deal than the HP preconfig too :O (and yes, it's the same model/warranty...I checked, re-checked, and checked again).
They also ship the minute you order if they're open. Very nice considering I was going to get the T61p with WSXGA+ but was told 2 weeks or more :\
(I didn't actually order my 8510p until Tuesday, then they shipped it about an hour later)
-
Ackeron are You still waiting for Yours??
-
I've been trying to run PCMark05 and 3DMark06 but both crash every time. Seemingly it is a video driver issue, but ATI's website is no help. I downloaded the newest ATI Catalyst/Driver but neither would install. I'll have to spend more time tonight trying to figure out what the problem is...
-
Does it just crash or gives U error?? Is it on Vista??
-

http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=64910
(really interested int those benchmarks!) -
There are drivers on ATI's website so You might try to modify them... I cannot guarantee that it will work.
-
by the way, Lungboy, have you tested any games? Bioshock or something like that? (Something graphically intensive)
-
Gots to be an HP reseller to get the demo discount. It's 40% off.
