At least you got your system handling the T9900. :) Know if I can plug in a low-latency RAM on the Dv3t? Haven't tried it on a consumer notebook. I'm planning to buy from Corsair.

I think one per unit. The box would say how many licenses you can install.

I personally wouldn't recommend the infinity display. Although it looks pretty nice with the no edge finish, the glare would be much too strong.

I'd go with the regular display, but it's up to you of course ;)

Do you mean if you could use an SSD instead of a regular HDD? Yes, if it is a 2.5" drive.

    Happy Birthday Jolly Lolly! :)

The T9900 is the fastest mobile CPU at the moment. We'll have to see if Intel makes a faster one in this series, before moving on to the next generation. It is rather difficult to upgrade the CPU as it requires disassembly of the entire unit, down to the system board. The CPU is on the bottom of the computer, but HP did not put an access panel.

I've disassembled computers before and still had a bit of a tough job of it. HP does have a very nice service guide showing you how to do it, though.

A mobile version of the core i7 would surpass the T9900. :p I think they'd be rolling out those after they're done with Core 2.

Well, the high cell was an extra $29.00, and only roughly 15% more juice doesn't justify the purchase for me. In any case, I should get 3 1/2 hours on the regular 6 cell easily.

Yeah I used the $30.00 coupon with my purchase. This coupon expires on the 1st of July, and I know there is a possibility of a new one coming soon, but I'm leaving for college pretty soon, and by the time this thing gets built and shipped I won't have very long to ensure that it runs properly and smoothly, so I decided to go ahead and buy this baby while the 4th of July sale is still in effect (it ends on the 7th by the way).

The total cost came out to be $1,119.00 (was $1,049.00 before taxes :/)
I think it was a pretty good purchase.

Sony computers are way overpriced. Sure they look pretty, but most don't even carry a fast enough processor under their belt.

I'll be sure to post pictures and a review for you guys when my dv3t comes in the mail (hopefully it won't take too long).

The aluminum chassis of Sonys could justify the cost. Makes your notebooks a little bit rugged. Of course the Dv3t is cheaper since it's made from plastic rather than metal.

Do post some pics and some benchies when your laptop arrives. :)

Oh wow, that is pretty fast. Well you're petty much guaranteed it will arrive within a week, I'm guessing you're pretty excited :p

From all the reviews I've read (including CNET.uk) everyone says the dv3t runs pretty cool all the time, which is a relief considering how hot the dv5t and dv4t run.

NinaJ will be receiving the laptop very soon and I will in about two weeks, so I'm sure we can let you guys know how the temperature is when we get it.

Temperature on my dv3t (I've owned since June 22), is very good. With some gaming, it gets a bit hot, but cools down very fast. Without gaming, it's perfect. The backlit keys are also very bright and helpful in the dark.

Hey guys. I posted awhile back and forgot to check, so I'm sure that it's expired. Does anybody have any good recommendations for a College student who wants to get the HP DV3T, upgrades and all? Mainly just looking for speed and I do plan to watch movies on it occasionally. Also, any coupons that will be available for next week, when I plan to order?

Lol looks like you and I are in the same boat but I won't be ordering next week =(. Anyhoo get the free 4gb ram upgrade, if you plan on some light gaming you can go for the nvidia. If for some reason you want to burn and watch blurays go for it. cept that i dont know of anyone that has actually bought the dv3t with the bluray. As for processor, go for one of the P-series. I am personally eye-ing the p8700 over the 8600 because my last laptop had the 8600 but i want this one to be a lil stronger i guess? I personally like the fingerprint reader and webcam combo and am opting to not get the infinity screen....Oh and if you plan on getting 4gb of RAM make sure to have a 64-bit operating system :D. lol sorry for the disorganized post

    Hey!
I'm also planning to order within the next week or so, it would be great if i could find a working coupon! Any idea where i can find one? Does anyone think that there will be some after the 4th and their whole instant savings sale? Is the NVIDIA geForce mainly for playing games? will it slow the computer down if the processer isn't from the p-series? Thanks!

Well the $30 coupon expires today, not sure when the next one will be out (I'd wait till 7/6 like someone else mentioned. If there isn't one out by then, I suggest to go ahead and use the 4th of July deal before it ends on 7/7).

Also the Nvidia card will make your computer run smoother overall, and it's pretty good for light gaming (I got it for some CSS etc.) And be sure to upgrade to the P series processors (P8600 should be fine, I wouldn't get the P8700 because I don't think the slight difference between the two is worth the $75 difference). If you really want a beast though, go for 2.66 GHz (pretty expensive though).

    ...
What do you mean the Nvidia card will make their computer run smoother overall?

That's just a complete and utter misconception. The only advantage of the Nvidia card is for gaming. If you don't game, all you will notice is more heat and lower battery life.

You will probably notice no speed difference among the Intel CPUs. I would still suggest you go with the P-series CPUs because of their lower power usage and thus greater battery life and lower heat output, not to mention better overall performance. But no, you don't need a P-series CPU, unless you're doing something very CPU intensive, which I doubt you are.

The $30 coupon is the little Trout in a river full of Salmon. The coupon you want is either the $300 or the 30% one. Don't get suckered into this "sale" of theirs currently going on. From what I can see, the only "sale" is the $25 savings for upgrading to the 500GB hard drive. Save yourself a lot of money and wait for one of those coupons to come out, they usually come out once a month...

Whoa, don't get your panties in a bunch now. I was just SUGGESTING on what to order, jesus. And I understand the sale and $30 coupon isn't much, but I'm leaving for college in less than a month, and I don't have the time to sit around all day and wait until the "good" coupons come out. By the time I receive the laptop it will be two weeks, leaving me with very little time to check and make sure the computer runs properly and without any hickups before my departure. I was going to purchase it last week but I'm glad I waited because I was able to upgrade to 4 GB of RAM for free and have use of the 12 month no interest/payment feature (you normally have to purchase their card, but I didn't have to) not to mention the mail-in rebate printer deal.

I'm also going to be working in video production and will be using CS4 on a near daily basis, so I please don't immediate assume I will be merely checking email on a $1000 + computer.

lol... you went a little over the top their with your reaction. It's like a bad actor in a movie reacting to surprising news.

The only thing I said directed towards you was that it's a complete and utter misconception that Nvidia cards improve overall system performance, which it is. Really don't know what I said to bring out panties/Jesus. Oh well.

The rest of it wasn't directed at you, it was directed at Kardon who asked for advice? Heck, where did you even ask for advice to think I was directing my answer at you? lolz? Think you got lost there buddy...

Oh, and apparently another misconception of yours is that you need to sit around all day long waiting for coupons. If you check the coupon section 2 times a week you will be fine. Considering it would take at most a minute to check, multiply that by 2.... gives you 2 minutes. But who has 2 minutes a week to spare to save a few hundred dollars. :p

I know you weren't really directing your previous message towards me, but I was just merely justifying why I purchased my laptop at the time I did. The purpose of your previous post was pretty much to state that purchasing a laptop now would be pretty stupid, but as you can see for some it's a great deal.

Just don't assume if the deals aren't worth it for you personally they're worthless for everyone else as well ;)

I wasn't really directing it towards you at all. :p

The purpose of my post, regarding the coupons, was that it would be in a buyers best interest to wait for the coupon.

There are no deals going on right now my man... seems like you're trying to justify it to yourself more than you are to me, which is why you felt the need to reply to something that wasn't even directed at you. Anyone who has purchased an HP laptop will tell you that waiting for a coupon to come out will save you a lot of money.

And well, with all due respect, it is pretty stupid not to wait for a coupon to come out. You could have gotten a much better laptop for the same amount of money.

Oh, and that printer deal, it's always there.... lol. Like I said, the "4th of July" sale of theirs is just a ploy....

It's not a great deal for... anyone. I am not buying one, so it really has absolutely nothing to do with me. Basically, it's the equivalent of buying something at retail as opposed to buying the same exact product on sale....

Now, if time is a factor and you need a laptop ASAP, then that's another story altogether. Then again, you should have probably done a little better planning but that's neither here nor there.

It was advice, advice that would serve a potential buyer very well if they were to follow it.... just because you purchased it without a coupon and now are possibly feeling a tad foolish doesn't mean you have to deem that advice to be inconsequential. :)

Anyway. Congrats on your new laptop.

(btw... in the next 1-2 weeks when the coupons come out, probably even in the next few days, spec out the same exact system and see how much it comes out to... ;) )

Well, the tracking finally works, and my laptop will be here Tuesday. Maybe even Monday. So it took 14 days to be made and arrive at my house. It took 8 days total last time, so I'm a little disappointed in the wait, but oh well. I'll still have time to test it out and make sure it's good for school when I move. Hopefully nothing is wrong with it though...

Hey, I'm new here. I'm seriously considering purchasing this laptop (other considerations: Sony Vaio SR or Toshiba Satellite U500) in the near future. Folks in the HP forum talk about this monthly 30% off coupon and I have two questions: first, is it true, and, secondly, does it apply to this particular HP model? Any help would be very much appreciated.

Yes and yes. They usually put it out after their $30 off coupon, which is the one currently up. Give it a week or so and it'll probably be up.

Check this link a couple times a week and you should be good to go...

Does the DV3 have the fan issue like the the DV4 where its always on and very loud? How come the white one does not come with a back lit keyboard? What do you all get on average battery life with at least a P8600 and the 105M GPU in the machine? Would you consider an external monitor when at home?

Just a couple questions to get things going, this is one of the laptops I am looking at.
