It would seem they have it available in the parts store. Why don't they offer it as an optional upgrade? I thought they didn't have the manufacturer any more?

I looked it up in the parts store and it is listed as "unavailable" in the US. Which store were you looking at?

Maybe they're holding on to a few for people who bought it and may need repairs. Someone said the display should be coming back sometime, but that's really just heresay. I've wondered what they would do if someone's Radiance 1600x900 display had went out and they didn't have any to replace it with.

Not sure if this has been posted before, but I have the new uk spec 14-1190ea which has 1x4gb instead of 2x2gb RAM. But, on inspection, it is 1333mhz, not 1066mhz! Nice little bonus there. Saying that though, can the i5 even run that speed RAM? I thought i5 RAM was capped at 1066mhz.

Does anyone have any transfer benchmarks for the eSATA port? I bought this 2.5" HDD Case eSATAp / USB2.0 and the transfer speeds are terrible.

At first transfers fly and hit around 78Mbps for 10 seconds and then die down to around 8Mbps. Same happens on USB2.

Am i missing some settings on the 500GB drive?

    I have 1333mhz ram too.

no it can't run at that speed. i3/i5 cap it at 1066mhz.

So i have had the HP Envy 14 that i ordered in July configured with i-7720, 6gb ram, 320 gb HDD, and radiance display. Today something just blew while my computer was just idle and it shut down. Now the power, wifi, and logo lights are flashing. Among other manufacturer defects, including but not limited to, is a singed Gfx card, audio port switching, mDP not working, and the logo on the backwas not fit right so now i have scratches on the back side of my screen. I cant turn on the computer and it has been diagnosed that i need to send it in for repair. Now the problem is not sending it in for repair, but the fact that since i have a radiance display screen and they only offer the crappy netbook screen, i will be downgraded to that. This dosn't make any sense to me. they wont let me upgrade to a envy 17 nor give me some upgrades in compensation of the screen loss.

So How did other people get upgrade compensations? why do i have to suffer a loss of a few hundred dollars? what should i do?

Can you post in the thread i started?

Ugh, first problem after having this computer since July, my HP logo has come off center. Noticed it when i was closing my computer to walk into class earlier, guessing there is no way to fix it without taking apart the screen. Slightly annoying, but I guess its not a huge deal since I don't see it lit half the time. :(

Would the above lead one to believe that they Radiance screen would be available within this time frame as well for purchase? If they do come back with the Radiance screen at that time, is there any indication that USB 3.0 and the new synaptic touchpad would be upgraded on the new offering of the Envy 14?

    Hey everyone,

This will be what I hope is my last update concerning my WiFi issues.

I had some time today in which I could closely monitor the status of my connection so I switched my modem's settings back from the "fixed" channel 11 settings to the original "Auto Detect" settings in the hope of getting my WiFi to crash and thus solidifying that the problem was likely due to my connection conflicting with my neighbors connection.

Anyway, I made this change and not more than two hours after I did, lo and behold, my connection goes down. I checked the log for Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector and I found something most convincing:

    WiFi Problem.JPG

My connection is the blue line and my neighbor's crazy secured now unsecured now secured etc etc connection is the red line. It is a little difficult to make out, but essentially my connection took a huge signal strength dip right when the red connection entered the picture for the first time after being out of commission for a while. My connection resumed normal functioning for a about a minute while it struggled to deal with the initial problem. Then, eventually, it dropped out completely (indicated by the flatline) and the other two connections in range started going haywire (or perhaps instead Xirrus started representing them differently because I was no longer connected to my WiFi). I let it play out and eventually got it to reconnect after which everything seemed to stabalize again.

The logs in Event Viewer for "System" under Windows Logs and "WLAN-AutoConfig" under Applications and Services -> Microsoft -> Windows mirrored the exact same sequence of events as that which I posted a few days ago.

So the mystery seems to be solved.

My only complaints are that in using channel 11 rather than channel 1 on my modem connection strength takes only the very slightest of dips, and that I still can't figure out why this happened on my nice new Envy 14 but not the old Pavilion and the ancient Toshiba that also frequently use my WiFi. I'm assuming that it must be something to do either with the fact that the Envy is the only Windows 7 machine or that the WiFi card in the Envy is the strongest and/or most susceptible to these sort of issues.

Anyway, thanks again to belltown for his suggestion to change the channel settings on my modem and to everyone else for their suggestions.

Hopefully I will never have to post about this issue again.

Radiance display - orders and replacements. Both are possible, but I have not had validation of either. I ordered a new screen the same day I submitted the laptop for a warranty replacement. Maybe I was being paranoid, but I was afraid my notebook would not be back to the glory of a 1600x900 screen which is pretty much the only reason I bought it. So, I have my Envy 14 submitted for repair and waiting along with an active order for the radiance screen with an ETA of December 8. If both happen, great, if neither happen, it will be definitely be sad state of affairs.

Not aware of anything else regarding the Envy 14 other than the radiance screens supposedly coming back in supply for December. That is assuming that the HP representative I talked to can be trusted.

Case Management simply said "its not our fault they walked out in us. its at our discretion if we decide to give you a replacement or compensation."

so you can understand why im a little uneasy about sending my laptop in for repairs. i will probably be talking to them again today

MD - no noise on mine except the usual fan noise. Hope that helps.

Btw, there is a significant difference in the quoted weights of the 14-1090 and 14-1190. Anyone know why?

    Hi Mike,

I would like to ask you something also related to fans:

1 - on a regular win use: browse and music or movie are the fans even starting ?
2 - are they starting only when you game or hard processing ?
3 - are they working all the time no matter of what you do ?
4 - are they loud when working ?
5 - if you did the bios update rev.13F available - did you noticed any improvement of fan cycle ?

    Tks v.much again in advance,
    MD

    Hi All,

Is there any sound difference between envy 14 regular and envy 14 beats edition?. Does beats edition have more features in terms of audio?.

At the same time I want to know which of below configuration are good
    configuration 1) Envy 14 with i5-560M and 6GB RAM
    configuration 2) Envy 14 with i5-460M and 8GB RAM

Which of above will give good performance

    Thanks in advance

I think the Envy 14 without the Radiance display is great - although I can't compare it to what one with Radiance looks like, I think the 1366x768 resolution is a sweet spot on a 14 inch display.

I've seen people say you should do a reinstall if you are going from an HDD to an SSD. For the data, you could just use Windows Backup. Windows Backup should also let you do a system image if you don't go to an SSD.

Maybe other users can comment on their preference of cloning/imaging software.

Hey guys, I was just checking in to see how the Envy 14 has been holding up, especially those that ordered in the summer and were first adopters. I seriously considered this laptop but passed. Wanted to see how the laptop has been doing. Gaming, build quality, battery impressions. Take care!

Bought it the first or second week they were available.

Gaming - Ran all the games I tried on it from very great to decent. The worst performer I had on it was FFXIV, but thats an MMO and was horribly optimized. Maybe it runs better now. Other games such as borderlands, Mafia 2, DMC4 ran great at a mix of medium/high at native res.

Build Quality - My first Envys battery cover wouldn't open so I had to get it RMA'd. The new one is great and has been holding up fine. Ive taken it to class everyday this semester, and it still looks brand new.

Battery Impressions - I have an I5 so with the regular battery, I used to get around 3:30-4 on medium brightness ,browing the net ,and intel graphics. I bought the battery slice and get nearly 8 hours of battery life, sometimes even more.

So I just received my Envy, and I'm prepping for a clean install.

One problem. I can't download the drivers from HP's support site! I'm getting 1.0 KB download speeds, and they're timing out after about 5-10 minutes!

What gives! It isn't my machine, I just downloaded CPU-Z and hit 1.2MB/S DL speeds and it DL'd instantly.

Obviously HP's server is screwed up or overcrowded, but this totally sucks. Can't reinstall windows and finally start running this beautiful machine without drivers  .

well. assuming you haven't done the clean install yet, the drivers and everything else that came with the computer are in the C:\swsetup folder

I'd suggest backing the entire thing up to an external hard-drive

you also need to run ABR to keep your activation current for windows 7 (when you clean install) otherwise you may have to call microsoft and get them to re-activate windows 7 over the phone.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...-hp-laptop-out-box-guide-2-0-windows-7-a.html

just read through the first couple of steps in that guide (mainly 2 for abr)

I also would suggest making sure you only install the updated graphics card drivers (10.7 HP / well 8.741.1.3000 is what windows calls them)

the original 10.3 hp ones (8.713) had some issues (minor...but the screen going blank when you updated the video drivers and sometimes when clean installing was a pain, but a reboot solved the clean install issue for me)

not that I really know of.

hibernate is kinda buggy in general on the envy 14.

try putting it to sleep (without hibernate) and wake it back up, that fixes some things sometimes.

otherwise, yeah..you just have to reboot

Thanks very much Magus. I couldn't find the drivers and didn't know they were in the SW folder.

    Backed everything up externally.

And windows is no issue. I have my own copy of Windows ultimate since I never leave factory images and own many computers (I'm addicted to technology).

    Thanks again (+rep)

And man, the Radiance screen is out of this world. It rivals the RGB on the m17x I had.

To have this kind of screen on a 14.5 inch computer is just sweet.

Not quite. if you see this happen , change to a battery plan that allows it ti stay on when the lid closes and simply close the id and re-open it. I had the same problem but it went away after a while.

I just don't hibernate (or really sleep/standby either)

I like my power button to turn off and my lid close to just turn off the screen/do nothing.

..just how I've always used laptops

    yw.

one last thing. The radiance naturally is too blue (tint and color and stuff are a bit off)

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-envy-hdx/531060-anyone-here-thinks-radiance-not-natural.html

down here is a color profile that's close to natural colors on the radiance and how to install it (and be able to swap back to original if you want)

think it sometimes doesn't stick if you boot with the intel gpu but *shrugs* you just use the display profile program to fix that.
