There is a little finger icon in the tray icons, when you click on the little arrow, it took me some time to find where the settings were too. The settings are a little vague to me too...

Hey just a thought, my first E 15 worked great for about a month and then the drive (HDD) started acting up and having intermittent crashes, after hours with HP support an no luck they were going have me return and send a replacement. I decided to open it up before returning and low and behold I had a loose MOBO connector that was only latched on one side. Snap it in place and worked great.....

It did on the original Envy 15 Gen 1's which had terrible factory settings, and the 15 has itty bitty speaker compared to the 14.

I would strongly suggest you disable those enhancements and just adjust for it in the EQ settings. All they do is add digital distortion before the EQ and preamp, so your amplifying the distortions twice before it hits the speakers...

Will do, thanks for the info, at first I didn't have them enabled, but now I am getting problems, hopefully this will fix it.

Edit: The sound IS better without the enhancements, shouldn't they be called Dehancements?
Edit: I found an ACPI entry in the Event Viewer that says the Embedded Controller did not respond within the specified timeout period. This may indicate that there is an error in the EC hardware or firmware or that the BIOS is accessing the EC incorrectly. Contact computer manufacturer for an updated BIOS. This is on f.12, I will be flashing back down to f.06 and see if it still reports this...

I get 7.6 for my intel SSD's and 6.8 for cpu and memory, the GPU is 7.0 but thats not comparable.

Try this trick, run super pi (32M) in the backround and then start windows experience index, I bet you SSD score goes way up....

BTW it is a really horrible and outdated rating system I wouldn't lose any sleep over it...

ahh finally got this touchpad 90 percent of the way to my liking. key for me was to disable pinch to zoom and within synaptics specify the lower left and lower right tap zones to a specific keystoke to ctrl - and ctrl + to zoom in and out. now two finger scroll is hella smooth and does not accidentally trigger zoom. phew

Okay can someone help me out?

I sent in my Envy14 for repairs cause of the touchpad making an annoying clickety clackety sound. It's expected to be delivered on the 7th (this upcoming Tuesday). But it still hasn't left HP's facility. It's a 3 day holiday so if HP expects to have it back to me by Tuesday, shouldn't they have sent it to me today (Friday)?

The workers probably won't be in the facility until Tuesday and even then, it'll be too late to get it to me by Tuesday afternoon....

    DELETE YOUR POST PLEASE.

We have decided this is not a good fix, it runs very hot and is not practical for ful time use.

I now have a fix the is working very well with almost no increase in heat or power draw. It's being tested by several other SSD owners now and we are fine tuning the settings. Once we finalize things I will write up a detailed instruction set and post it here (and on other threads). It is quite a complicated process and we are trying to streamline it for ease of making the changes. This new fix also guves full SSD speeds while on battery :)

2.0 -- Could you please remove SSD post from the O.P. for now, should have reliable fix posted by monday. Thanks

I think the only way to do it is by manually opening it up and disconnecting it,just be careful as if something gets messed up it can totally void your warranty,it shouldn't be buzzing at all, have you called hp? or thought about a replacement,i don't know about you but i use my drive a lot, watching movies, installing cd's or software,it is vitally important to me,you could always use a portable drive if you really needed one after disconnecting it,but other than a manual disconnect i am not sure someone else may have some ideas too

Well, it's not really buzz. When I turn on my Envy it makes a "errr err" sound kind of... but it only lasts one second and that's it. I'd just prefer it not to make any noise at all so I might as well disable it somehow since I don't use it very often. I'm pretty sure yours should do the same, just listen closely when you turn it on.

Clean installs have had problems updating, have you tried going to f.04, in motherboard forums users have warned against skipping to many BIOS versions in a flash. Maybe try f.04, my method only works on minimized/factory install, not clean install. The .7z method is probably your best bet. Sorry I can't help more... Mike415 has been successful updating on a clean install, maybe if you can find him he could help.

What's your BIOS version, if you're on f.12 I suggest going back to f.06, I just today started having audio problems (albeit a little bit different from yours) and f.12 BIOS seems to be the culprit. If you're not on f.12 then I am sorry, I have no more information...
You may also try to see if you can get an extension from HP on your return period. With your special situation, they may be generous.

HP has all the old BIOS versions on the drivers page, you'll have to check the .7z method to find out what you need there, I have not tried it and do not know all the details or required files. Also I recommend not going to f.12, it's nothing but a bad beta BIOS that introduces more problems than solutions. HP needs to get it's act together if they are claiming premium status on the Envy.

Sorry, not really sure what piece of sofware HP is using to allow users to update the BIOS. Are you running WinFlash as an administrator? The only way I could tell you to get to do it my way is to do a minimized recovery or factory reinstall. I really don't know why they made it difficult to update BIOS on clean install. I mean a person would have to be really silly to want to install their crippled BIOS on a non HP computer.
On a side note, does anybody know if these computers are actually using EFI. I know EFI has a BIOS emulation mode and I have heard much talk about computers moving to the extensible firmware interface, but I can't find any info on how to see if the computer is UEFI compliant.

Yeah, that's why i'm trying to find out how to disable it all together, without unplugging it.

Can't do anything about it in the BIOS, from what i've tried. You can only set it so you don't automatically boot off your CD drive.

Yes, they changed it. It's much more simple now. Just remove the battery cover, and your HDD/SSD will be on the left. All you have to do is take out a few screws, unplug the drive already in there, replace it, and put it back together. That simple.

2.0: can you update first page to this one . This will work for every version and is much simpler to do.

Come on Microsoft, where's my money? A little off topic but does anyone know how long it usually takes for Bing to pay cashback from HP purchases?

I honestly thought that it would be shorter still, considering that BCB is over. This is almost as bad as the impatience I felt waiting on my Envy to get here. Good thing there's not a tracking page for M$, my F5 key is still pissed at me for wearing out that FedEx tracker.

To anyone who has an Envy 14, can you do me a quick favor? I will be receiving my Envy 14 in a few days, and I want to buy a ShaggyMac screen protector (a cloth to put between the keyboard and screen when the laptop is closed). I need to order a custom sized one, as they have no standard protector for 14,5" laptops. 15-16 Custom Shop Laptop Screen Protector [SPCustom15] - $16.95 : ShaggyMac, Laptop Screen Protector & Keyboard Cover, Laptop Cleaner & Accessories

I need the inner width of the screen, ie. on the inside of the rubber lip at the edges, and the same for depth so that I can get a protector that doesn't stick out anywhere when the laptop is closed. Thanks.

It says right in your cashback account how many days. Usually 60 days. There is a tracking page. Bing.com/cashback select "your cashback acount" from the lower left. Log in and click the pending tab.

Hey guys, just got my E14 last nite. I want to make a set of recovery disks, but when I go in, it says it might take up to 45GB worth of discs. Is that right? Isn't that like 10 DVD's?

I've installed some bloatware and installed some of my programs already. Should I uninstall some of the stuff I installed to make the recovery smaller?

    So I finally broke 8k in 3dmark :D

525/975 OC to the 5650 and i5 450 OCed to 2.620 with turbo boost to 2.911 GHz. Temps were great with both things OCed!

You have to play with both the bottom and top bars in setFSB to get a stable OC.

Edit: Got greedy and tried a higher OC. 2.743ghz with turbo boost to 3.05 Ghz :D 8053
