So tried that out.
No game.
Bios .06 still won't go to sleep/hibernate.
I put it back to bios f.12 now.
I didn't find anything that would suggest otherwise.
I think I will get another windows dvd from my ex-roomate and reinstall windows (like againbut this time I'll install a different version)
I wonder if this windows that I have is buggy.

Well i just got my bing caahback approved and i have some really good new:

I have been approved for the full $431 bing cashback. -
Me too... I dont know what is up with bing cashback but I got cashback for my first Envy 14 that I returned...it wasnt canceled lol.
-
just got my bing cashback also, hey its Bill Gates...that money we received, mean nothing to him. Just think it of bonus I guess
.
PS:any fee involved if you transfer it to your paypal account? -
so you are getting about $300~ in cash back for free??! lucky!
-
just got my bing cashback for the envy i returned. the same thing happened to the dm4 i returned.
one more day for me to get the cashback for the envy i kept
-
HP has new bluetooth drivers in the network section of their driver page.
-
You lucky s who got BCB on items you returned!
-
HOLY SH**. I got BCB on my first laptop CANCELED! $765 instead of $382.50!!!!!!
Thanks, Microsoft!!!!!
Epic win for 2010. I'm student and I can always use any means to lower my student debt. THANK YOU MICROSOFT!!!!! -
Wow... I wish i returned an Envy. xD
-
Nah. I remember now I never returned it. Had to cancel my first order via phone because I thought I wanted a bigger HDD. I later determined during my second purchase that I would be fine with the stock 320gb HDD.
Now I have one of two choices.
1. Splurge on some toy I don't need like an iPod Touch...which comes with a gimped camera
2. Spend it on groceries and just save money and reduce my debt level by $382. -
Tried to update it and get error 1935
-
Is there anyway for bing to take that money back?I wouldn't spent it just yet...
-
StealthReventon Notebook Evangelist
Wow, that's sweet! Free money. -
I'm not spending anything yet, haha.
I already sent a request to have it sent via paypal. They'll have to intercept the cash within that time. -
so i just received that mini displayport to vga cable i posted about earlier
it works.........but the screen sorta...flickers
you can see lines on the screen. it isn't as bad when i set the refresh rate to 75Hz, but it's still sorta bad. what should i do? is it the cable's fault? can i mess with settings on the lappie? -
Dont they sell monitor with minidisplay port?so no need of converter or anything.
-
no way i'm dishing out money for another monitor ><". college is already expensive.
by the way: DO NOT INSTALL RAY ADAMS ATI TRAY TOOL. it breaks your envy; makes it force restart whenever it starts up. stupid modified ati drivers can't handle it =/ -
If I would have known this I would have bought 10 envy's and returned them all!!! You guys are really lucky! and I hate you all
-
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
So you guys are getting cash back for purchases that were already refunded, and meanwhile, Bing's refusing to process a payment for mine, which I'm typing on right now...
Some world we live in... -
Hey guys does the envy come with a mic?built in , I don't think mine has one
-
Yea, but it might not be set as default in windows if its not working
-
Mine was already sent to my bank account..but mine was only 10% from the first day the Envy was released..but I will take a free $120 lol
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
envy has a mic built into the webcam up top.
it's alright (not the best thing ever but hey it works perfectly fine and I dun wanna get a headset) -
whenever I go google video chat the webcam doesnt work
-
I've never used google video, but you have to set the mic as the default like that one guy earlier has said.
-
I friggen swear. One of my profs talks so fast that sometimes I don't understand a bloody thing he's saying. Even though he's demanded that we record his lectures only upon request, I'm going to do it secretly with the mic.
-
hey guys, just did a clean install on my envy 14 after having used the Minimal recovery when first getting.... must say I am very confused. It takes a ridiculously long time for the system to get everything started up after i login, and all the apps and such that started at startup before in an instant take a very long time to load up, sometimes so long that I can actually read a few pages of the paper. Any advice?
-
Hey guys, I was planning on buying an Envy 14" and I'm still considering. It seemed like the perfect choice until HP decided to charge an extra $300 for the Radiance Infinity Display. Out of spite I still may take my business to apple for the Macbook Pro 13 lol.
Is it worth it? should I stick with the 14.5" diagonal High Definition HP BrightView Infinity LED Display (1366x768) or shell out $300 for the 14.5" diagonal HD+ HP Radiance Infinity LED Display (1600x900)? would love side by side pictures to that show the difference. -
1600x900 is a huge difference...if you are planning on keeping this laptop for a few years i would for sure pay for it..just sucks its so expensive now
-
Yeah I got cashback on my canceled laptop as well, so I ended up with $1050 cashback total for three Envy 14's. (did the 5% on the first one and it went through as well) So ended up with $450 free cash.
-
Uninstall the older one and then run the new package. I had this problem when trying to run it over the top of the old drivers.
-
There are some screenshots on page 396 that may help you out. They are of the Radiance, theres some screen shots of the inifinity somewhere else in the forum, but I don't know where they are.
Edit: Ok, on page 340 there is a video of the infinity briteview screen. So I guess with a couple web browser pages you could do a side by side.
Edit: Maybe a comparative of the 2 displays should be added to page 1 to help users in deciding whether the screen is for them. -
In my opinion (I do no own the envy 14): why would you bother spending so much for the envy 14 when you can get similar laptops cheaper if you don't mind sad displays? Personally, I don't consider it $1k +$300, I just see it as "$1300" and decide that the envy 15 is a bit cheaper, with more graphics power (which is something I'll actually use), and the display is comparable.

has anyone found a way to fix the random cpu load spikes?
its really bugging me and i dont really feel like returning it -
I'm interested in any answers to this question too. My only solution so far has been to reboot.
-
the thing that bugs me the most about it is, i cant understand why its happening!
ive tried all sorts of things but it still happens.
is this a defect? -
What CPU spikes? Is it linked to a certain process? I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Has anyone else enabled virtualization in the BIOS? I did last night and haven't had any problems so far. One strange thing did happen right after I did it. My battery started charging when it wasn't plugged in. It was really weird, anybody have any ideas about this? I'm totally clueless about what was going on, but it's only happened once.
-
Do you have SSD? -
Money's been deposited. Looks like employees at Microsoft stopped caring.
-
Why are the OEM's so terrible with their software? Awhile ago, my CPU was locked at 25% usage and the process responsible was HPMSGSVC.exe which is the quicklaunch program. Why in the $#@% would a hotkey utility EVER need 25% of my CPU at any time?
-
What the hell!!! whats with the spike in the screen? i just got enough money to finally buy the Envy 14, i waited so long for it, and now this! is it worth it? any thoughts? i know some people said its a must have, but do i sacrifice the performance to get more out of my laptop since THATS what ill stare at 90% of the time?
-
I guess it's all up to you, I can't say I would have paid 300 for the upgrade. Part of what made me get this was the original price point. HP must have smelled $ when people started buying up the Radiance display. If you wanna check out comparisons, page 396 has screenshots of radiance and 340 has a video of the infinity briteview. Most people seem disappointed with the infinity briteview screen, and most (myself included) seem happy with the Radiance if that helps any. Sorry to hear about how you waited and saved $'s only to get a fork in the eye by HP raising the price.
-
Good question. Ever since I started posting on the E14 threads, I've been raging at HP for their lack of software prowess. After using a Mac for a month, I've learned the meaning of true hardware-software integration.
I'll grant that I'm overall forgiving of the E14 because it totally rocks my socks. But HP still has work to do. -
I'm starting to think that about 90-100% of the problems I have had are due to their faulty programming. The computer is definitely great, but their programming skills leave a whole lotta room for improvement.
Another example of this is the HPAsset.exe that screwed up. I didn't even know it was going on, but I check my reliability from time to time and noticed a message about HPAsset.exe screwing up... HP should fire their entire software division and start from scratch...
Meh, Macs are overrated and kinda boring... Not to mention that to get the fans to work on a Mac you have to install SMCFanControl. Great program, Apple should buy it from the developer and integrate it into their system... -
Why do you still have half of HP's bloatware on the PC to begin with?
-
Cuz I'm cheap... I also don't think it's too much to ask that software preinstalled on a computer should... work on said computer without issues.
-
The bloatware, is what subsidizes the PC as far as I know. But TBH, if you don't configure the computer, then it's still just HP's laptop. Not yours.
-
IMO it's not worth it. I've seen both screens, and really with normal usage you can hardly tell the difference. I suspect you'll only see the difference in bright daylight, or if you have a really vibrant picture and you put them side by side. I also find the radiance screen a little blinding, somehow, but it's not significant.
The radiance screen is the best screen you can get now but the brightview is still an excellent screen. The lower pixel count and lower brightness may also help you to squeeze a little bit more out of your battery
I'd say get the brightview, unless you're gonna be using your envy outdoors a lot, you really need the high resolution (I don't see the point on such a small screen), or you really care about that difference in contrast (800:1 opposed to around 200:1), which isn't too noticeable normally. -
hey guys, i got this laptop earlier this week. like it so far, but it was pretty expensive, so im still hesitant on whether it was the right decision.
anyways, i was wondering with the static/white noise in the headphone jack. i read about it, and some seem to have it while others dont. but isnt it normal to have it considering all the moving parts in the laptop?
