LOL that's what I kept telling HP in our live chat. They kept trying to get me to system restore and I was like, I don't want to system restore, I want to go back to factory defaults, and I actually don't want to go back to factory defaults, I just want to Be Able to go back to factory defaults should the need ever arise.
-
Gonna call hp to see if I can get 100 bux back since I paid with my money, since it was over dad's budget....Any tips? I plan to rant on radiance pricing, toucpad annoying me , and what number to call? and do I threaten a RMA?
-
They have a disable touchpad option. All you have to do is double tap the top left part of the touchpad and an orange light will come on indicated that it is disabled and then you double tap it again to turn it back on...
-
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
He means an option for the touchpad to automatically disable itself while typing, and then enable itself when the keypresses stop. If you're editing a document in Word with the touchpad instead of an external mouse, you're going to want the touchpad off a lot of the time, but you're also going to want it on a lot, and turning it on and off constantly is impractical, especially with the annoying indicator obscuring the middle of the screen every time. -
anyonee?:S
-
Noone else experienced this?
-
I haven't noticed any screen flickering.
-
How are my temps and processes looking after light web browsing?
-
That's pretty average for the Radeon 5650. But disabling it generally gets me down to 30sC, so when I'm just web browsing, even on AC, I tend to disable it. But unfortunately you need to use the Radeon to use external monitors, so I don't get to do that very often because I'm usually using a second monitor.
Was the issue with bluetooth being asleep on clean installs ever figured out? I want to get a bluetooth headset to use with Google Voice/Gmail so I can use my laptop as a giant phone but I did a clean install so I can't get it to see my bluetooth device when I try to install the drivers. -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
I managed to get it to install through the magic of "asfjkla;sfdkl; leave wifi on, install drivers and let it fail, install from the .inf (right click hit install) and let it fail and then reboot windows and magically it was on long enough to see I had bluetooth and installed the drivers"

Have anyone ordered their envy 14's from B&H online? Am a student coming to US next week so need a envy 14 or 17 urgently, quick ship models i mean. HP works out expensive, have read in thread that mostly all order from amazon or newegg but at present both are out of stock with envy 14
Other option is to buy through HP, pay 130$ extra and ask for discounts
, if they dont give 60-80 then i may RMA it but depends on how much i fall in love with it.
B&H is a safe option? Amazn seems safe when it comes to returns but genuine problem- no stock. -
There is a new coupon code out for $150 off of laptops $1199+ ( NBF173929 ) which should work on the Envy 14.
-
"The coupon entered does not apply to the items in your shopping cart. Please review the coupon for products included in this offer."
I tired with the student discount and without. My envy came out to over $1200 before taxes and couldn't get it to work. -
Sorry about that. It works on the envy 15 and envy 13....

Got some bad news

I found a couple other issues with the latest BIOS. Once F.12 was installed, I could no longer access the BIOS with the F10 key, I had to have the Fn and F10 key pressed. I even had the "action keys" or whatever it's called enabled in the BIOS.
Another thing I found was when I restored the QuickWeb to factory I could no longer access it with the F.12 BIOS, the screen res was like 800x600 and I couldn't see anything after the initial QuickWeb screen. Once I downgraded to F.06, QuickWeb was fine. -
I got an instant $400 discount on my Envy 14 after I spoke to a supervisor, also got $50 credit on my card 3-5 days after the product shipped. Part of the reason I got the credit is because the Radiance screen is going for $300 now instead of $200.
-
How did you get $400 discount? Did you call HP or do it over the web? Who did you talk to? What did you complain about? $400 is a HUGE discount! If i can get that right now I will take it ASAP!
-
It took a lot of work, and 2 RMAs. I was on the phone for probably a total of 3 hours with supervisors. They sound like they're located in the Phillipines. I forgot to mention, they're throwing in another 12 months onto the 1 year warranty! So the total cost of my $1400 configuration was just under $1,000. To bad Bing Cash Back isn't around anymore.
-
Why did you RMA twice? I hear so many RMA's it makes me scared.
-
First RMA was because there was a scuff on the screen that I didn't notice until I looked at the screen unpowered when it was black. The second RMA was because I have this weird problem when I switch from ATI to Intel Graphics the fan comes on high speed occasionally and stays on, no cycling, etc...it stays on and it sounds like a hair dryer. To remedy, I either have to switch back to ATI and then back to Intel or put the comp to sleep and then log back on.

In the last photo, it appears that your right speaker grille has a manu defect at the bottom of the spoke (first one in from the right). Is this correct? Mine also has an issue in the exact spot. Not a big deal, but it caught my eye & made me wonder if that was the case. Seems like all the build issues on these machines run in multiples... -
idk I dont really see anything.. doesn't bother me. However the big dent on the side of my envy does....
-

So does anybody have any news on the refresh that supposedly happening in October???
-
I'm curious as to this as well. Not exactly sure what they would change. New screen manufacturer? New touchpad?
-
Darn it, I just ordered today, haha. I could always RMA it for the new one?
It might just be adding Radiance to the Beats edition. -
I have quite the opposite experience and still loving it almost 2 month later... I still don't see anything that beats what this laptop has especially for the price I paid with BCB and credits.
-
I have the cpu whine as well.. but I don't mind it one bit, it's very quiet and only really audible when I'm in a completely silent room. Even then I can ignore it without try too hard. Only other problem with my envy was that the edges of the keyboard weren't flush with the rest of the machine, apart from that I have loved this machine.
Hopefully upgrading from this i5-430 to something with a bit more juice in the future, maybe an i5-560/580 -
New touch pad and Intel 580m processor.
-
how do you know?
-
by new touchpad, are you reffering to the long awaited hingeless trackpad that synaptics are making and the ones people thought the new envy's might have?
-
I'm looking for an Envy 14 too, just saw one the other day in one of the stores and I just love it. Only thing that keeps my from buying it right now are the 'new' models coming along. I've searched for several hours/days on Google and indeed it appears that there are some new models coming out very soon, the Envy 14-11XX series. The only (complete) specs of the 11XX series I could find are from the Danish HP site HERE .
-
That's basically the refresh Sony just released on some of their upcoming Notebooks and the Intel processor map has the 580 and 560 also available for the 4th Qtr. There will also be a new i7 but I can't remember the model number.
The touch-pad refresh is expected because all of the ENVY 17 and 14 demo units shown were using the new hingless touch-pad before their actual release. Almost everyone expected it to be included in the first release. -
So when is the envy 14 going to have the 4 point synaptics touchpad?
EDIT: i guess i should read the post right above mine!
Is the sandy bridge the new 560/580 processors? will they be better than i7 620? -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
nah sandy bridge processers would be i5 2560 or something.
sandy bridge will have 4 numbers after the i3/i5/i7. just to confuse you more -
Do you guys think it will be possible to install the hingeless trackpad yourself into a current envy 14 assuming it comes out this Q4
-
I think a refresh in the envy line in October is almost certain. The coupon that JJB posted ends at 30th September.
-
Anybody have a quick synopsis of the advantages of the new processors (i5-560m and i5-580m)??
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
faster, newer *shrugs* don't seem 'em on intel's ark website so not like we can say how much faster/better they would be and if it would be negligible or not.
well unless we have info about 'em somewhere else -
The new processors are said to be more energy efficient. The new processors GPU is said to run as good, if not better than the 5450. It is also said that it takes about half the energy to watch HD video than the old processors. The new processors come out within the first half of 2011. Jan-jun.
I receive my Envy around the 28th of September. If they come out with the new synaptics touch pad, I will be replacing it for that one.
I got a good deal $1150 w/ i5, Radiance, 1 stick 4gb ram, Recovery DVD's -
Any solution for the fans going high and slow all the time, its very annoying?
-
Ozzie, where did you find it for so cheap?
-
StealthReventon Notebook Evangelist
How did you get such a good deal? -
I was going to order online but thought, I might as well call in and see if I can get a better deal. I explained to the lady how a friend got it for cheaper, and how I'm upset with the hike of the radiance screen. She logged into my account and saw I already had 1 in my "cart". She offered me a $100 discount on top of my 10% student discount.
1. Be very clear, listen to them, do not cut them off mid sentence.
2. If offered to take the survey always say yes.
3. I was a bit soft spoken and calm.
4. I said thank you a lot. -
I just got my envy 14, and a problem I have is that when I tried playing a game (on steam), the game display only took up about 2/3 of the laptop's screen. Basically it was not fullscreen (although fullscreen was enabled in game - so the 1/3 of the screen that was not showing the game was black and was not showing the desktop).
Does anyone have an idea what this is and how to fix it so that the game will be displayed on the entire screen of the laptop? Thanks and let me know if you need more info. -
Maybe check the game's settings? You should be able to set resolution, full screen option, etc.
If not, switch to intel graphics, right click on the Intel GMA icon in the taskbar, go to graphics option, panel fit, and hit "scale full screen". I'm not sure why this option also works when you switch to ATI graphics though. (You can switch back to ATI GPU and it should full screen it fine.) I actually found out how to do this while trying to get Starcraft broodwar to work on Windows 7. -

If I install an extra 4gb dimm before initally booting the laptop (brand new), would this cause any problems with HP's setup process?
-
At first I wasn't concerned about the rumored track pad update, but now I am a bit bummed that this is coming since I ordered my Envy 14 just three days ago. The new i5 doesn't bother any since I ordered the Envy with the i3-370m with plans of upgrading to the i5-540m, which now I can just upgrade to the i5-580m if I wanted to (if it fits the same mobo).
Now, I don't have my Envy 14 yet, it's being built, but I'm pretty sure I can live with the current track pad. I just hope, for my sake, that the 5650 stays the same! If for some reason they start shipping the 5650 clocked at 650mhz(unlikely) I would be bummed! RMA! lol
Honestly though, I do wonder if the refresh will come with the 550mhz clocked 5650 like the DV6tse? -
Why would you be upset with the trackpad when honestly, it's the software that really matters. So you might miss out on not having a hinge; Who cares. What we need are updated drivers so that the trackpad functions like we expect it. I've adjusted to using the current Synaptic's drivers and I'm rather fond of the trackpad now. Circular scroll makes a lot of sense to me and I've power tuned the two finger scroll to work smooth as butter for the few times I bother to use it.
As for the graphics card update, well I can feel your pain a bit there. However, the difference in performance you're referencing isn't much of a jump. Now if they went with a new video card all together, i might feel a bit sad, but hey, that's the price we pay to be early adopters. I love my ENVY, use it every day, got the Radiance screen at the 900 price point and got free Bing cash for an order I canceled. No refresh can kill my buzz.
