I hope not. I don't think so. Messing with the voltage can hurt stuff but we can't do that.

I crashed myself like 20 times trying to get setFSB to work. (It never did work btw)

I mean as long as the temps aren't going to the 90+ *C it shouldn't be damagin things.

just means that it isn't stable

edit: btw lith. make sure you're creating two profiles, one that's just reset to the standard, otherwise the core will always be running at the OC level and never clock down.

I have two profiles. One that's the default (hit reset, hit save, hit 1, etc). One that's the OC (the 2nd one) and I have a couple button combos that let me swap between 'em on the fly.

thats what i thought... even on my old laptop, the gpu would regularly get into the high 90's while playing WoW, and it was stable lol

Im gonna run some more tests later tonight. Magus, hit me up on a PM if you find anything that can help me OC more

I tried everything and I can't find a fix for this. If this was solvable, I'd probably reorder. (I had to return my first E14 due to build quality issues and the fan being on at constant full blast.)

For the person with wifi going randomly off and not turning back on problem. Try going into device manager => wifi intel adapter settings => Last tab on the right there is power managing => uncheck the box "Allow windows to shut down that component to save power"

    It may simply be that.

Films at this price without glue (it sticks with atmospheric pressure) are high quality films, the only thing they can degrade is luminosity (but heh radiance screen is already 25% too bright ! perfect match, you get the contrast of a glossy and less reflections without losing luminosity)*

Hey lith. here's where I found the 10.6 alpha and release drivers (or well where someone found 'em for me)

alpha: strags.com - Currently ATI Mobility Radeon HD Depot ;)
    release: https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/920...mobile/10-6_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc.exe

I installed the alpha first. I did a custom install, just did everything, probably don't have to though (you just need to get the driver installed). After it tried to install the drivers the screen screwed up. You'll know it screwed up in the right way if the screen is black with a blinking cursor in the top left AND if you hit any buttons windows makes that error ding.

I left it alone for a few minutes after I noticed windows was still running, letting it finish the install. I then rebooted. Stuff came up fine with those drivers installed.

if it doesn't. reboot again, hit f8 a lot to get into the safe mode prompt, choose boot up with last known good configuration. That's how I got back to 10.3 each time I failed installing the 10.6 release drivers.

After the alpha drivers install right (hopefully) you can then install the 10.6 release drivers. The screen shouldn't go black. They should install fine with no issue by running the express setup

I just fixed my CPU Whine. I dont know if this will work for you guys but what i did was i took the back panel off and pushed in the CPU and barely tightened the screws that held it in. I had the same high pitched noise when the CPU was idling but now it is fixed. Im extrememely happpy now. This laptop is now perfect !!!!!!

Edit: When i pushed the CPU in it sounded like some of the pins werent connected all the way. Idk if taking the back panel off voids the warranty but that seemed to solve my CPU whine.

Hello, I just received my Envy today and the first thing that glared at my hands after I plugged it in and went through the setup is the ERRATIC TRACKPAD.

I drag my fingers and sometimes it hits that bump in the road before I have to lift my finger and redrag my finger. I tried the scrolling with the trackpad in Opera and Internet Explorer and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I.E. I hold one finger down on the left corner of the pad and drag up and down with my right finger on the pad.

I really like to like this laptop but with this issue, I may just return this laptop... Any suggestions?

On a different troubling issue, my external Seagate FreeAgent Go HDD does not get recognized on initial plugin to the laptop. It recognizes fine on my older laptop but not this one.

Please remember to be extremely careful when adding more pressure to your CPU. Notebook CPUs do not have an IHS cap like desktop CPUs, and therefore it's possible to crack the CPU/iGPU die. If there are multiple screws, tighten them slowly, slight turns on each, and don't put too much pressure on it.

If you don't screw up, I don't see why it would void your warranty, and for that matter, I don't think HP would know you even touched the screws. If you crack the dies, then I'm sure HP would void the warranty.

I'm just saying, be careful everyone.

If hp is not using "AHAH GOT YOU SCREWS" you know the screws with the paint that goes away if you unscrew or tighten them. (that would inform the techs that you broke into the laptop) opening and tightening in a clean fashion like he did is not going to void anything. That is unless hp has a secret spy laser trap that registers if you break into the back lid. But I may just be paranoid.

That's not paint. It's thread locker. And they don't use it as a tell tale. But if one were paranoid, they can go to a hardware store and pick up matching grade thread locker.

from talking to hp reps, and takling to a higher tie about my hp envy 15, opening the laptop does not void the warranty,

openig the laptops and putting our own parts in doesn't void the warranty, but the parts you install are not covered.

moving stickers that say warranty void if removed, well that self explaintory.

Yeah but considering the level of quality issues the Envy 14 is facing so far, how would they know it wasn't cracked out of the factory? Maybe something is wrong to begin with. I'm not saying its right, but also better than sending the darn thing back and waiting another month for a replacement, wrestling for BCB money, etc.

If you were modding or something I'd think differently. But if you're trying to make your laptop right with a minor tweak that should have happened in the factory, I don't think it's all that bad.

Eh, failed logic there though. They'd have to unscrew it too, which would remove the paint... but that's not what it's for.

Well, if the CPU die was cracked out of the factory, it wouldn't boot whatsoever, and I'm pretty sure they at least check that before shipping them.

NO it doesn't. Unless you put a note inside that says "Natedogg was here, playaz!"

But seriously, my reason for not wanting to put that on page one is for the sake of novices. They'll feel compelled to do it themselves and perhaps ruin things in the process. Then call HP to fix it. Then having inadvertently through noobish ignorance done something odd inside, find that HP voids their warranty.

Then they come back all mad at me saying how irresponsible it was for a mod to put something like that up. Then I shrug it off in a display of bravado which get's them all riled up.

Then... then, I get into a firefight with the hitman they hired. There's blood and police.. oh and FBI agents. Lots of flashing lights.

Oh God I can't go through that again. Not AGAIN.

Nah, you don't get me, I'm not speaking of thread locker, my older fujitsu laptop had black painted screws that would turn partially white whenever a screwdriver would come in contact with enough force to them, a technician told me that when I brought it and asked me if I ever opened it myself (event which of course I lied my way out lol). If tech sees white screws on a laptop without any record of intervention he would go all "lolol voided warranty" if the problem the laptop is experiencing could be caused by mishandling of internal components by the user.

You mean you just screwed the CPU's screws in a bit more? Is it hard to access the CPU, or are there a lot more parts beyond just the back panel to take off?

Can you tell me what screwdriverss are necessary to get at the CPU?

Oh btw, turns out my coworker who is really good at fixing things does warranty work in Ontario FOR HP. As in when you send in your HP for repairs, it goes to him.

If he can't solve this, I'll be flabberghasted.

    Next question:

Anyone seem to have weaker wifi on the Envy 14 than other computers?

I have a beacon (idk its real name) expanding my wireless services further in my house. connecting to it provides impossibly slow speeds for some reason...

I think it was more of pushing the CPU in because the screws were pretty tight already and no all you have to do is take off the panel and you will see it

    well this is a pickel...

    when on this setup:

    laptop > amp > headphones

my right channel is all broken up, i thought i blew my headphone!

then plugged directly into the laptop, and it was okay. then lowered the volume....then up again....high volume it was fine, but when system volume was lowered below 40 it would break up

    w t f ?
