If I get one with a whine or any other issue I'm sending it right back. Do you think I should re-order or just wait for the gen 2 e14 OR go with another laptop altogether?

That's your choice. Do you want to wait for the second generation E14? Would this other laptop satisfy your needs? If the only problem is the whine and you like everything about it, would YOU want to try to order another one and hope it doesn't whine?

See the problem is that I love everything (by the sound of it) about this laptop. I also ordered mine from ebay and it is taking a long time to get here. I think I'm going to wait for a gen 2 but that is not guarenteed to fix the whine either since many laptops have this.

Do you guys think that this whine is also present in the dm4t? I'm thinking of reconsidering DM4t over E14..

If the whine is really caused by the CPU, then a second generation Envy 14 won't fix this.

I have a feeling many people are overreacting to this. I guess I'll find out firsthand when mine gets here.

Was there ever a whine reported on any of the other envy models?
I love everything about this laptop, it's perfect, except for the whine. I think it's even gotten worse perhaps.

    Pg 187 of Envy 15 Gen2:

I just got my envy 15. It's a real nice machine. However I can hear a high pitched whine noise when the fans are off. I have dual SSDs. Searching online revealed that this is an issue with the cpu entering a c4 power state. The envy bios has zero options whatsover.

Is there any other fix for this besides a constant cpu load? i tried setting the minimum processor speed at 100% in the power plan. Multiplier stays at 21, but the whine is still there. (Jamus28)

Many of you guys are lucky that they can do RMA if they dont like the lappy. Am from India. My friend is buying this laptop for me. He will be coming back to India on Aug 6th. So even if find any issues with the laptop i have very very minimal chances of replacing it.. But again i just want to be optimistic.. :)..

    Power Charger

Question about Power Charger. Im getting my envy 14 from the states to Norway in short time. Is the charger working internationally? Where and what do I need to change out.? The item from the power core to the charger or the whole charger ? Thanks alot!!!

Almost 100% sure it will work fine. It should. All you need to buy is a power adapter for it to connect US plugs to Norway ones (or european). You can buy them on ebay for about $5 or even less.

I got my mini Displayport to VGA from LogiLink today and it also does not work. I tried to connect it with my Acer tft but it does not recognize it at all. Hdmi works without any problems with my TV. Now I hope that adapter is broken and not the displayport on the envy...

That's because you need an active adapter, what you probably have is a passive one which won't work. An active adapter cost around $80 so either get that or get a display that supports displayport.

For the people with the fan problem ... why don't u guys just install speedfan and monitor the fans for a while and then post a screenshot. Like this its easier to compare your systems... afaik u can get a curve of the cpu temperature too.

Just ordered another envy - I'm going to return the first one once the new one comes in (or as close to the 21 day return policy as possible if there are delays).

I cant get over my (relatively minor) screen tint uniformity issue. When I view the screen there is an area to the right of center that has a greenish tint when looking at a white background. Its not bad, but when looking at a webpage with a lot of white (like a forum) it looks like there is a lighter or greenish spot which is distracting.

Mine has finally arrived in the UK :)

So far I love it, no imperfections that I have noticed yet.

One thing though, there is no way this screen is 350nits! I would say its closer to 250. I was hoping to be able to use it outdoors but I guess not.

CPU's DO NOT WHINE! I've said that before. it has to be something else on the board with wrong voltage. I know integrated video cards can whine. If this is come problem with the chips HP has NOT reported it back to Intel.

That's what I tried to say waaaaay back somewhere deep in the abyss before this thread went plaid. But since I don't have the machine yet, I didn't want to push it.

the clocks are like a sony.

    450 core, 800 memory.

AMD GPU Clock Tool 0.9.26 doesn't work right.

RivaTuner doesn't work (but at least it doesn't crash things)

MSI Afterburner works after you modify a setting in the cfg but it can't mess with (or read) voltages and can't get up above 585 core (or 1040 memory).

some people've been getting crashes for OCing memory at all and for OCing the core to 500 and no memory or whatever (though it came an hour later)

I haven't played around in a game with it OCed for more than 'bout 20 minutes but I didn't have a crash at 550/800 in SC2. Now it totally got to 78 C gpu and cpu in SC2 on high but SC2 is a really processor intensive game. Probably not even gonna bother OCing when playing it because of that (the thing hammers your cpu).

Furmark ran for 'bout 10 minutes with seemingly no issue at 585/885 (didn't wanna push it much more beyond 76 C)

Ah, the new driver for the touchpad is great. Much more responsive.

I don't know how some people are getting 20-30C for their NVs. My lowest is 37C with an i5-450...

Finally, the longest my computer can last is about ~2hr 30mins, on 100% brightness with already 4% battery wear.

So did you try only the v0.9.8 or did you try the v0.9.26.0 I linked ? Maybe try some even older versions.

I ordered my Envy 14 day one as soon as it was available for order. I've been using it ever since it came in, but I've notice something strange about the scree. I'm seeing faint diagonal scan lines on greyish colors, and on midtones. Its really noticeable if you look at the top clear parts of windows aero boxs and move your head left and right.

    Anyone have this?

I also have CPU whine >,> and excessive fan noise, so I'm considering returning it and getting a replacement.
