Random thought: Does the 160GB SSD put the weight at below 5 pounds? I know my 256GB SSD in my desktop is like a feather in my hands, but it's been a long time since I've held a laptop hard drive so I'm not sure on the difference. Not like it matters, I'm just excited I finally got to order it today.

The 520 is a little faster, probably not worth it for that alone. But from memory its lower power and less heat and a little more speed.

Any one have an experience with the time it takes for US Envy release to AUS Envy release :p?

Would jump on one right now if i could get it shipped straight to Aus with the correct power cord lol.

So what's the wisdom on 1 dimm vs. 2? If the Envy 14 supports dual
channel, 2 dimms are going to be faster right? The idea of getting 1
is make upgrading to 8gb easier, but if it's slower until you do that...

I'm not sure the bing thing is working, I went through the bing shopping link to the HP store, but the cheapest Envy 14 is $1099, I thought the minimum was supposed to be $999?

And I dont see the coupon applied anywhere

The HP Envy got a price bump to $1099. Doesn't Bing cashback apply like two months later?

I think you get an email from bing afterwards showing the discounted price. And theres no $999 available so it would be $1099 + an email from bing for 10% which is $109.9 which comes out as $989.1
    i think...

Im gonna buy Envy 14 when it comes to Norway. Dont know when it will be, one site has 30.06 as delivery date, while two others have in the beginning of August anyway, two of them have a i5-450M 2,4GHz version with 6gb ram, 1366x768, 500gb for around 2300$ and then a i7-720QM 1,6GHz with 4 gb ram, 500 gb, 1366x768 for 1600$. I tought the i7 was better and more expensive then the i5? It's a pretty big difference in the price, but you get 2gb ram more... Im going to use the computer for editing pictures so I need the modell with the best screen anyway but i5 vs. i7 for picture and some video editing? Of course im gonna use it to other things, but thats just surfing, chat etc...

PS: Im new here, be kind :)

Yeah, I would love to see what people plan to do concerning coupons. BCB at 10 % now, and I don't have access to any educational discounts, etc. Are you guys waiting for a better bing deal, using other coupons, or what?

Seeing they don't overprice the SSD, I'd like to get it with the Intel x25 160 GB, but that's kinda expensive as it is now ...

Do you think it's worth it? I got 4GB 1 Dim because I plan to buy 2 GB on my own to make 6..
The most expensive thing was the warranty...but I'm going to be living in a dorm and taking this thing to classes. While I will be very careful with it, others may accidentally do something..

I was kind of surprised that the base price was $1100 when I thought that was the only thing set in stone about it. Still, most people were prepared to pay $100 for the upgrade to the Radiance display anyway. And the free Corel software is nice, that stuff is expensive.

And the 5650 in a super thin 14'' notebook. The 5450 in the dm4 is good enough for light gaming, and can play most games on at least low settings, but the 5659 runs circles around it.

Good question. There is a treatise on this issue on the 1410T/1810T thread written by Ghetto Child. The bottom line is that it is not appreciably slower and may actually draw less power. IMO, its worth the $25.

I think I'm going to go for the Envy 14 without the accidental coverage warranty. Here's my reasoning: it costs $369 for the 3-year accidental coverage. 3 years from now, I could get a laptop w/ similar specs as the Envy 14 for $368. (Moore's law.)

Anyone have any shattering revelations about the matter??

Yer been considering it, my worry is that if something goes wrong with it the UK won't cover it (i think).

I want it soo much, at least we will see some reviews soon, I hope lol. Then we will kbow if it lives up to he expected.

You can configure it with 8cell standard or two 8cell standard or one 8cell standard plus one 6cell battery.
The 6cell is the slice. It costs $200 extra.

hmm only thing I'm pondering is the 430m vs the 450m.. $50 difference. And also to pay $25 more for a single dimm 4gb for cheaper 8gb future upgrade. and mayyybe the 160GB SSD. Trying to keep price as low as possible haha. HP uses the Intel G2 SSD drives right??

I think that it's the "extended life six cell" battery upgrade that goes for $200.

I may just skip getting it and buy a second regular battery at that price.

If you don't get the extra coverage you could drop it after 1 week and the screen could shatter.

The only thing is that replacing a broken LCD pannel at hp costs about 200$ (up to 800$ depends on the screen, but radiance must be pretty expensive to replace) with the regular warranty. So either you pay extra 100$ now to be covered one drop per year ? Or you just pay per drop a larger ammount... Depends if you're a clumsy person or not.
That said you can always replace the screen yourself after buying it on ebay for 150$... But Imo 100$ for accidental coverage is a good deal for a 2 year warranty.

Yeah, I dont know about this machine. I am a little disappointed that there is no 1080 resolution when sony will give you that in a laptop that is 1.4 inches smaller.

It does seem very pricy. The configuration I ordered would cost just $500 less than my Vaio Z with less memory (4 instead of 8), no SSD array, almost twice the weight and less battery life.

In addition, why is the warranty so freaken expensive?

Get the warranty from Costco. 2 years of accidental damage and Lojack for $100. Have to buy it within 30 days of laptop purchase though.
