Will post some first impressions with unboxing shots and detail shots later. Stay tuned!![]()

Any free software I can run on this machine to get valid load/heat data?
-
Try HWmonitor
-
Or everest ultimate edition, the trial is pretty complete
-
I took quite a few unboxing shots, will upload them in 15 min, when my Envy is up and running...
Its beautiful, firm, no visible cracks or openings yet, I love the touch of the metal..
The touchpad is still a bit different for me, lets see how i like it later..
The keyboard is great..
Screen also.. Opening Angle of 135° is more than adequate... -
Congrats Guys...!! So first owners of Envy 14.. We envy u
-
yep it can drive up to 2 external displays (5 if u include USB to HDMI/DVI/VGA etc adapters) with different resolutions as well as the laptop screen.
Or Eyefinity which is one massive resolution amongst multiple screens -
IKilledYourHamster Notebook Evangelist
Did you get the free upgrade by accident?
-
I love such accidents, but never met one
-
Ha, you even beat me in time! Remember, that you were worried about your machine not arriving until monday?
Looks like our plans for the weekend are already made!
-
As the other dude said up to 6 external displays with Eyefinity on this GPU!!! which can only be 5 externals on the E14 regarding the amount of ports... or 6 if ur including the laptop screen itself which would be then regarded as Eyefinity it would be 6 individual resolutions rather than one massive resolution

I'm with Lvivkse on this. I can't manage to get much longer than a year with a laptop that is gaming capable, maybe 18 months. $500/year is ~$40/mo, stretch it to 18 months, that's $30/mo. People spend more every week at the bar.
When I buy a new laptop I usually spend about $500-$600 out of pocket whenever I do it, because I sell my previous laptop. I plan on spending ~$1200. In 12-18 months will probably be able to sell for ~$700, tack another $500 on that, and poof, back to $1200 budget.
If you don't use it for gaming, except occasional web based card games, whatever, sure you can get 3-4 years out of it. I had a Sony laptop for 7 years and it just did basic Office and web stuff. Worked fine for that. -
BCB went back to 5%!
I hope we will get some better deals later, or I will be screwed... -
BCB is being discontinued by month's end. So only deals that will come around are coupon codes.
-
Well, I knew that I was just hoping that at least it will stay at 10 %, or even better it will bump up to 25%, since it is the program's last month....
-
With 21 day return policy from hp, if that policy starts when you recieve the envy, HP will not bump bcb over what it was at release during those 21 days...
So that leave you the very last week of july to expect any +10% or +15% or 25% if hp has money to throw away on a dead program. -
It doesn't matter if it's a dead program or not. It's a marketing engine. If it draws in a lot more sales, then so be it. That's why HP does it. It makes no difference if the program is ending or not.
-
So, I uploaded my first Pictures, but I think on the weekend I will take more with proper lighting.
Here they are:
Envy 14 Unboxing Pictures - Picasa Webalbum
Have fun..
Now I am away to play with my new toy..! -
Well, that's exactly the week I was planning on buying my Envy 14, so it sounds in the end everything will come together just as it was supposed to do
. Anyway, with some coupons I think I can go down all the way to 1000 dollars, or a little bit more with a CPU upgrade which means i will be fine
-
Won't throw any more sales if theres only one week of 25% bcb. Because official reviews won't hit the public attention before august.
And seriously ? Do you think that hp after raising base price to 100$ will cut off 275$ of its benefits into a dead program ? On the long term bcb was attrative for hp because they needed to empty their older envy stocks (with highly overpriced sale value for was it was. With the envy 14 nearly in shortage (according to hp "wutwutderpderp im a rep its top sale !! one every 5 calls) there is more offer than demand. I'm betting that HP has not much profit margin on the envy 14 already. -
I'm with ya htwingnut. I've followed you for the past several months and we've had a couple of similar computers.
Anyway I go through computers because I am able to make up the funds spent. I look for deals and buy and sell when it's high, kind of like stocks lol. In the past two years I've had a Black Macbook in which was my original spent money on CL, sold it for $200 more than I bought it, and then spent an extra $50 for a Unibody Macbook on CL. I turned around and did a straight trade on that 8 months later for a Dell XPS1640 and sold that two months later for $1200. So now I'm up again $200. Bought a Sager np8660 for $1100 and had that for a month before reselling that for $1200 and then buying my M11x. Two years worth of computing and I really haven't shed much out of pocket. I do admit I did upgrade maybe ram or HDD on a couple of those units so that's a few bucks out of pocket that more than was made up for resale value. =) -
man this is amazing, thank you!
-
Great Pics... Awesome... !
I cant wait to get my hands on it..
-
Can you do some gaming and comment on the heat. Looking at the photos I have a strong feeling heats going to be an issue like the Envy 17...just doesnt seem to be enough ventilation imo.
-
Gratz and thanks a lot.
+1 -
Damn the screen is a beast. And the color changes on the metal according to viewing angles is impressive.
The charger doesn't look heavy that's a good point. And the battery look so easily swappable that it makes me question the interest of a slice battery.
Thanks for the photos.
May I request one particular picture ? It's the doomed picture of the rear vent while the screen is opened at 100-120° , also is the airflow of that vent anyhow reaching the front of the screen panel ?
Thanks ^^ -
25% BCB usually only lasts a few days anyways, always has in the past. Secondly, BCB is an HP Store SITEWIDE discount not just the Envy 14. The Envy 14 is probably only a very small portion of their sales. They wouldn't NOT do the sale because of the Envy 14. Plus with the chance of it happening and saving me a couple hundred bucks, I'm willing to wait a few weeks.
+1 Nice job with the photos. Thanks for that! -
Beautiful pictures! Know I know why this thing is called Envy! Well, luckily I am not really envious but anxious to get home soon and unbox mine!
-
Please test the heat and the battery life, I don't care about the rest
You think there is gonna be a docking station for this laptop? I would love to have one (at home I could plug in all my stuff - TV, sound etc- into the station and then when i come home I just put the laptop on the station and it works immediately). -
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT PICS:
Do NOT post pics that show close up/legible serial numbers or OS product code stickers. Being that this is a public forum, unscrupulous individuals may use these codes with malicious or illegal intent which may negatively affect you.

Can someone test and see if there's any noticeable keyboard flex? I remember seeing that the Envy 17 had it bad, but maybe that's just because it's a bigger laptop.
Thanks -
Yea but 25% bcb on envies as always been through BCB coupons and not sitewide discount. I don't recall any 25% sitewide discount that was there after the envy 15 second gen and 17 came out.
-
BCB = Bing Cashback www.bing.com/cashback. The discount is sitewide, with the exception of gift cards and a few other things. BCB is not a coupon, it's all managed through Microsoft Bing, where you wait 4-8 weeks to get your refund back. There was a 25% BCB for about five days before the Envy 14 came out, so only a month after Envy 17 was released.
-
My bad, Im confusing logicbuy 450$ off coupon with the april bcb 25% week.
-
The rubber band that seperates the display from the rest of the notebook is diverting the little airflow that is diverted up away from the schreen..
Until now I am doing light surfing and installing Software and I have no issues with heat whatsoever.. The bottom is slightly warmer (under 40°C) but I have to mention its an extremely hot day with +35°C room temperature in Germany.. -
The most part of the Keyboard doesnt flex at all, just around the "P" there is a little flex of les than one mm under higher pressure, not noticeable as I am typing now....
-
I was just checking the HDD in the System Manager and it seems to ony be the 500GB version.. The label was misleading.. Whatever, I got what I paid for...
-
Fantastic pictures
It's made me really, really want one now!
Thanks man -
how far does the screen tilt back? i must know this
-
Shame i didn't order mine now, im in germany after the sales person told me id get it the earliest 5th july.
-
If you read my previous post, it tilts back 135° (45° less than 180°).. Plenty enough to see clearly standing, sitting, squatting..
Also, amazing viewing angle and it really is bright..
Of course its a glossy screen, but as I sit in a sunlit room, I have no problems with reflections, as the screen outshines it easily.. -
He mentioned ~135 degrees.
*edit* beat me -
Looks like I'll be getting this to replace my Macbook. I'm selling it to someone today ^_^
-
Extremely vague question, and perhaps premature, but are you pleased with it?
-
How is the trackpad? Looks like it isn't the new hingeless uniform clickpad Synaptics demoed a while ago. Shame.
-
Could some one please comment on the speaker quality? Really hoping these are adequate for music on the go
-
For the german speakers, is it possible to order the envy with an english keyboard on hp DE? I can't tell.
I have someone there who can receive it for me. -
Why not just order it yourself? Or in what country do you live?
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
could you use HW monitor and do some intensive tasks?
That would be great because the 1 thing I am wondering about is the heat. -
Hey.. I believe, the someone is me so far^^.
Until now I am very pleased with the Envy 14 overall.. It feels high quality, very solid, nice screen..
I like the look very much, rather a toned down bronze than the silver from the HP press shots.
The pattern is quite subtle, I think its a great addition..
The E2E Glass looks sleek and sexy, hinges are solid and feel massive.
I have a little bit of flexibility when flexing the screen, but its no big deal and the screen feels well protected..
Sound is decent, very clear and full but until now not extremely loud.
Of course it does no wonders in the deeper areas, but its decent enough..
For some music on the go it should be more than adequate.. I will use it with some better earphones later..
I am not using the touchpad right now.
