As far as I can see, the envy is available only on hp DE with 1 configuration or hp US with all the customize options.
I live in Portugal and hp PT has no idea when it will be available, they're about to lauch the envy 17" as the new thing.
So, I'd like to understand if the hp DE store has the option in the buying procedure to change the layout, because I can't understand![]()

I will do that on Sunday or so.. I still have other things to do today and saturday.. Please bear with me..
Maybe ademmer can help there.. -
There is no configuration possible. I dont think you can order anything else in Germany..
But, the keyboard is on a seperate tray now, so I believe you might be able to get another keyboard as spare part and have it installed.
This has not been possible with the older Envy models...
Apropos keyboard, i havent been able to activate the backlight. The backlight button does not do the job.. -
Lith07, my bank card send me a fraud alert email and I had to confirm I placed the order. It delayed things on the HP side half hour or so but went thru. Call your bank if u haven't. Good luck!
-
Thank you Someone
repped you for your efforts!
-
I will record the heat data while running some CPU/GPU intense demos...
-
My bad, its working perfectly, just my room is in direct sunlight and to see it I need to peek under the keys from a very low angle..
Now that I know its there I can see the difference, a very discreet lighting up of the letters on the keys..
I like it.. -
Nice.. I am using some Philips Stereo Headphones and I really feel the improvement in the sound compared to my old model..
Maybe the lower frequencies are a bit too dominant, I will tune the settings a bit.. -
Please, can either of you comment on battery life? From a 100% charge, how many hours of light tasks are you getting?
I thought this would be more important to others, but it seems I'm one of the only people stressing about battery life. -
I would love to have the possibility to change the keyboard...mine will be US and i would like to have a German one, or a Hungarian one (I am from Hungary).
i hope at least you will use the envy during the weekend and can tell us about the battery life
But thank you so much again for all your VERY helpful posts!

How is the screen? Viewing angles, color?
-
maybe because the windows battery timer isn't that accurate and he only received it so unable to truly do a battery test.
-
I was referring to the people who have purchased an Envy 14 and are not concerned about battery life.
I'm just hoping erathostenes or ademmer can comment on battery life at some point. I think it's important when buying a notebook.
It was stated earlier that the screen angle is 135 degrees, which seems more than adequate for most users. -
Yeah, battery life is definitely very important!
Already stated: screen is bright (no reflection at all), colorful and viewing angles are really high too. Have a look at the photos he posted earlier, and see it with your eyes: it is truly amazing! -
For test on the battery, I have the notebook for less than two hours now, its far too early to make claims now.. Please have some patience..
About the screen, its very nice, I have little problem with reflections, just earlier, when I was testing HD playback, blacks were too black to overcome the reflections, but they are supposed to be black, so I will test again in a dark room later.
Viewing angles are excellent, horizontally almost 180°, vertically its over 90° (about 45° from the perpendicular axis) until I see a change in colour, but very gradually..
Far better than my old notebook..
Very rich vibrant colors.. They really pop, as seen in the youtube videos.. -
i cant believe the cover is bronze, i thought it was all silver
im happy to hear the pattern is subtle though -
well, Windows 7's battery timer is pretty accurate and that would give us at least an idea...because I heard everything from 4 hours to 8 hours....
-
yeah i think what people are asking for is fully charged what did the windows battery timer say was left?
-
Here some more pictures of the screen:
On the camera the reflections are more dominant than to the eye..
But you can cleary see the vibrant colors..! -
Was surfing this forum on my Sprint EVO earlier and saw the you guys have your Envy so I had to borrow my aunt's dv4 (im away from home in Chicago presently) and log on to say Congrats ! Thanks for posting the pics erathostenes ! Im happy that you get to play with the new toy over the weekend. Cheers !

Here's a great free program to more accurately calculate battery life:
Osiris Development - BatteryBar, the most accurate battery meter for Windows -
I think you rushed to answer this, but its ok it happens to all everyone. I was asking him about viewing angles, not how far it tilts back.
-
A silly q:
Does the HP logo on the back of the screen (so to speak on the lid) lights up when you turn it on?
-
I thought it was like MacBook lights up with the help of screen backlight
-
Sorry! It's just for the past few pages people kept asking for screen tilt.
I believe he answered it though. I guess viewing angles have never really been an issue for me. -
hm I didn't know that the macbook uses the screen-backlight, but anyway the question is still open
-
Yes, its lit up as the computer is running..
By the way, here are some idle temperatures:
Keep in mind its extremely hot in my room, in a cooler environment it should be better..
The battery bar does not give a battery estimate yet, I think it needs to run one or two times for a good estimate..
-
awesome, thanks.
-
Wow. Those are some high temps. It's almost as if you've got an i7 in there.
-
haha this thread is great. Cheers to the guys who just got their computers and are willing to respond to all the requests for information. If I were you guys, I would be installing games or something
-
That's correct about batterybar. It needs a minimum of 1 charge/discharge cycle before it starts reporting.
-
Aweskmeree!! We get an odea of heat now ..Please now tell us about the touchpad!!!
Please in-depth if possible it's what we're all waiting for lol -
Thanks for all the pics and replies!!! <3 You!
If I could rep any more I would, haha.

Don't forget his room is very hot.
-
^ meh excuses I live in Florida so that's a good idea for me on temperatures. I just don't know how those i5 temps compare since currenly I just have a ULV.. forget what my old C2D P9700 ran at..
-
I have played around with the Touchpad a bit.
As a pointing device its doing a great job, very accurate and the bis size is greatly appreciated..
Clicking took some getting used to.. The resistance to click is a bit high for my taste and you need to click more in the middle for a satisfying result but it feels like they improved the jiggle issue.
When I rest my thumb on the click area, it doesnt have much of an impact on pointing accuracy.. Just when I move my thumb for several mm, it gets registered in the mouse movement..
Anyways, I want to see the soccer game now. I will return in three hours for more Q&A! -
Hey is there an audio in/out jack same for microphone port for a external microphone?
-
according to HP and the pictures we have seen there are two audio ports on the envy: an audio out/headphone jack (with beats technology), and a second audio out/headphone jack which also could be used as a microphone/audio in jack.
so to answer ur question shorrtly: yes they are the same. -

Is the GPU memory GDDR3 or DDR3?
-
I am sure it will exceed 70-75 C under load. and that is going to cause some discomfort. I hope the cooling system lives up to expctation and does not suffer like other envy models.
I am counting on it. Heat and battery life is what matters to me. -
anyone else notice how the 'Z' and 'Y' are switched on his keyboard? thats kind of annoying I hope the american model is not like that
-
he is from germany, his model is German too, so nope, this is not the US keyboard on the pics....
-
german keyboard
-
SWEET! im glad to see the build quality is amazing. So were the "bad batch" of envy 17s sorted out and their build quality is good too?
-
yeah i figured that but it is nice to have some reassurance, thanks.
-
Anyone ordered from Amazon ? Anyone know when we can expect to get the envy ?
-
i did. but its still in preorder mode.
-
Nice to see reports coming in already, thanks for all your contributions. I spoke to an HP CSR about the manufacturer and model # of the SSD, it's interesting on how little they know about their own products. Since they couldn't provide that to me, could any new owners confirm that spec?
Edit: also the rep told me to look for an HP wide sale on July 4th. I asked him if the envy14 would be included in that sale and he assured me it would. Grain of salt, but for those who haven't ordered, might be worth a few days more wait. -
Well the fixed second batch of envy 17 is the current one being sold, aint it ?
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
yeah I'm gonna hope that the ? key's location isn't like that on the US keyboard.
'cause man. all the way at the top? That's gonna take some getting used to.
