    Woooot :D

Just came home from work and found a message at the door from UPS saying that my neighbour has got a parcel for me.

Guess what... yes Envy 14 has arrived.

HP homepage still says that my order is backordered :)

But now first to some football and beer.

Really? You're sure? How do you know? Do you have an Envy 14, or some kind of thermal load model that you're running?

Please tell me what the square shaped button in between the speakers does! And how do you like the screen resolution, is text too small to read comfortably? Lets have some more pix :)

Hmm, the touch pad doesn't look like the one on my (returned) Envy 15. Too bad, I really liked the texture on that thing. Then again, if it works better than that one did I'm all for it anyway. :p

(edit: after searching Google images, maybe the pattern just doesn't photograph well; I remember it having sort of a metallic "brushed" appearance)

Glad to hear the build quality was good. I was very impressed with my 15, and I'm hoping this one will blow me away even more.

JULY 7TH NEEDS TO GET HERE FASTER!

You cant use a NON US card to order with HP , even if you have the shipping and billing address in the US. I learned the hard way. Im getting someone from the US to order me one. Your best bet is to do that, or order from amazon.

I was just replying to erathostenes earlier post. The temperature under normal usage reaches 55-60 C. When under load it is definately goting to be more.

I dont own a envy 14 myself, but I returned envy 15 earlier only because of heat and battery issue. and since HP advertised in their press release that they have improved cooling mechanisam I am hoping envy 14 dosent suffer the same fate.

If the envy 14 gets this hot under idel or normal usage then it is little bit of worry. At this point more or less it is speculation

its worth a shot, they are losing money if they ignore it too, all the people who RMA their computer from amazon because its advertised with the wrong screen, all the people who dont buy a slice battery because its not listed as a slice on the ordering page, it's not just me.

HP Envy 14T QUAD i7-720 14.5 ATI 5650, 4GB Mem - eBay, PC Laptops Netbooks, Computers Networking. (end time 30-Jul-10 16:21:02 AEST)

This (lady i think it is) will do it. She charges a fair bit for postage but you pay her and she orders (i think). Gets a good wrap on ebay, so should be no problems. I emailed her, and she charges the same prices whatever HP asks.

I also know a well respected company called PriceUSA, its reguarly used by Whirlpool members (australian forums). I dont think they mind shipping anywhere world wide. And they charge 5% of total cost, good shipping rates.

After a little "investigative" work LOL, i found out or i think i found out who sells HP their SSDs..

*dum dum dum dum* It appears to be SAMSUNG SSDss...

How do i know? Well i don't know but according to this:
Samsung SSD - Where to buy - United States

It lists HP Invent as one of their resellers of SSDs.. however the ENVY Model isn't listed when you click on HP Invent button, a bunch of business laptop models are listed.. :(

If it is Samsung SSD, its one of the more reliable one, but not the fastest .. the current fastest ssds are Sandforce 1200 controller based ones sold by OCZ and Corsair and others..

The other fastest and best one i've seen that goes for $699, (only $200 more than slow hp ssds offered on envy 14), thats the Crucial RealSSD 256GB C300 model.. also don't worry they fixed all the firmwire and performance degrading issues.. it should be solid best on the market atm

If anyone has other good cheap SSDs for Envy 14, please do reply
i recently stumbled on Newegg.com - OCZ Vertex 2 OCZSSD2-2VTXE240G 2.5" 240GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
It looks AMAZING only $139 more than HP's Envy's SSD, but that 240 GB model HAS HIGH REVIEWS and on the specs sheet it rates it as close to 300MB read/write speeds.. CRAZZYY, its going to put envy 14 the best laptop on the market for a while lOL

UPDATE: on that samsung site if you click on VOODOO it lists ENVY133 thats the desktop version but its safe to assume HP uses it on the laptop version of ENVY 14..

There is nothing to suggest that Amazon has the incorrect screen on the model they are selling, let alone the other details. HP and Dell (among others) do this all the time. They'll sell a pre-configured machine that's meant for quick pick-up consumption by those who either don't care to configure one or who don't know they can configure one. The model they list on their site is the HP Envy 1010NR. Those specs are identical to what HP has listed on this datasheet. I would trust those specs to be accurate until/unless proven otherwise. Some "head honcho" at HP won't care one way or another about how you feel about it, especially since you don't even have one in hand at the moment. Most likely, if you get any response at all, it'll be some form of canned response that directs you to HP's customer service.

And for those who are fretting about the layout of the keyboards: stop. Keyboards are laid out different for nearly every country/language. A German keyboard is no different.

Edit: Also, noted on another HP datasheet, page 9 (I presume for the customizable machines, since no exact model number is mentioned), it lists only the HP Envy 15 and 17 as having USB 3.0 options.

I had not seen that spec sheet before. Man I believe that over any amazon posting any day. That's a bummer. Guess it's a wait and see. I believe it also because I have seen those quick ship models with lower res. Ala Best Buy laptops..

Justos - I'm just wondering how they checked. called in to HP reps who can't even give us solid information? For those of us that the screen res is important, I'd probably recommend to wait..

I have no Idea about the button between the speaker.. My guess is its for some wireless antenna like bluetooth, because it seems to be painted plastic..
The textsize is perfect, at least for me.. I would even prefer it to be a little smaller..

Here some more pictures, to show how far the display opens and how the screen looks in its darkest setting in a dim room..

I wasn't aware of that. However, I'm still inclined to believe HP's 1010NR datasheet until proven otherwise. Amazon probably has no units that they've looked at in detail (especially since it's still a "pre-order" item), so they may have just changed it because they understood you ordered one and somehow knew that spec better.

In the end, we'll wait and see. But I still think it's a bit premature to e-mail a "head honcho" with a list of complaints on speculation.

erathostenes, can you post a picture of the device manager listing or msinfo32 showing a list of all the hardware in the machine? That way we will know for sure if there is any USB 3.0 which was added at the last minute, or any other surprises like that.

I am now doing my first battery test, some surfing (on cable), dimmed screen, a while on standby, installing software, testing things, some mp3...

Until now the projected time has been going up steadly.. At around 95% discharge the estimate was 2:50 hours, which scared me a bit.. Now, 40 min later, the number is going up..
The battery tool needs to calibrate on this run..
    Its showing this estimate now:
