Yep Agreed! You're the man erathostenes!
-
yeah are you using integrated graphics or dedicated to get the battery life you are testing now?
-
Aren't USB 3.0 female connectors blue? From the photos they look black so probably 2.0.
-
On battery the default setting is integrated Intel GPU. I can set it to dedicated GPU, but I havent done it while running on battery... I want to get a realistic normal use case number.
-
thats brilliant i hoped it was running on the Intel GPU ... thanks man

It doesn't look like there is any USB 3.0 in the device manager, and this is the same motherboard every machine will be using, so that settles it.
-
No USB 3.0
And by the way, here is a size comparison
from bottom: Envy14 - eeePC 1000HE - Pandora
....
Burning the recovery discs takes quite some time ... 1/4 done -
Thanks for the compilation.. Lets keep it updated...
The second Envy 14 seen out in the wild.. My brief moment of fame as the only one on the forum with one seems to be over^^
Welcome fellow E14 user^^.. -
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
Do you mind taking a picture of the bottom with the main cover off?
Thanks
-
You can still be first to post video of your Envy 14 impressions on youtube!
-
there is already a gallery a few pages back. [mod edit:] Or see the first page of the thread for links.
-
You have to remove the battery hatch, then remove 5 screws to get the main cover off, that gives access to the motherboard where you can upgrade the RAM, etc. There are no pics yet showing the interior.
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
Yes, I would just like to know how its laid out, and how much space is inside
-
well i guess after erathostenes has finished with all the battery testing and recovery disk burning he may take a pic of the bottom cover exposing the motherboard.
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
I hope he does, its no rush.
The 2 main things I am concerned about is the heat under load and the battery life.
Also, can anyone confirm is the extra battery is a slice yet? -
I already asked him, he doesnt have a screwdriver!
So maybe someone else can.
-
That's a bit much to ask though. He stands the risk of voiding his warranty.
-
I will open the hatch on sunday, dont have the tools or time today.. Patience please. Just opening the cover wont affect the warranty.. Its still user serviable parts there (RAM)...
I am already the first to post pictures.. But maybe I will..^^ -
there is no risk, you are allowed to upgrade the RAM yourself, that is why they made it easy to access
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
I don't think it does void the warranty, HP put it there for easy access to everything.
-
If you are going to school every day, do you think you would rather take your 10" eepc because its smaller and lighter? Is a envy too big to fit on a small school desk?
-
erathostenes, thanks for all the pics you've posted for everyone :]
-
-
Why don't you stop asking intrusive stuff?. Instead, give thanks to this guy. Thanks erathostenes and tomorrow... Go Argentina !!
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
How are the temps during the burning?
Also, thanks for all the pictures and posts
It makes it a lot easier to decide on which laptop I will get
rep+
Edit: 2 fans ?
Looks good
-
hello owners and soon to be owners i have a question
what interface is the hard drive, is is SATA I, SATA II, or SATA III?
The reason i ask is most ssds have high read/write speeds but those will be bottlenecked if envy 14 has SATA I as SATA I supports only up to transfering data at up to 157 MB/s (straight from wikipedia tests done in april 2010)
so please let me know so i won't have to spend so much extra on ssds and might get the Momentus XT
thxs -
erathostenes Thank you for making us ENVY you!
-
This picture looks like there are two fans?? Was this previously known, and I just spaced it? -
There are two exhausts in this model compared to the one exhaust in the E17 so maybe. Btw i want this laptop so badly.
-
wow it has two fans! I am impressed, maybe it wont have heating issues
-
Oh that's right, the user/service manual comes on the SD card, right? Would you consider uploading the PDF file to some file sharing site? No rush really as it will be posted on HP's site soon.
-
that was not previously known, it looks like a very efficient cooling system, and the picture of the manual is very much appreciated because the manuals are still not online to download yet.
regarding sata, its using a HM55 chipset, the spec sheet at intel says it has SATA 3 Gb/s.
I have been asking HP for the manuals for at least a week now, there should be a user manual and also a service manual available. bitteschoen erathostenes! -
wow, that's the next question. How is the noise on this thing?
-
tornbacchus GO leafs.. Wait, Nevermid
wow I cannot believe that I am saying this, but I may just buy another HP laptop
-
can someone recommend a good stress test to our stars to get a good max temperature?
possibly 3dmark06 a couple of times? -
For CPU wPrime will do. Measure Computer Performance | wPrime Multithreaded Benchmark
3Dmark06 would be good for GPU stressing and would give a usable number for comparison. Vantage, while the most up to date, doesn't have a long enough established database of scores.
But true GPU stressing would be done with actual games. -
Well he is trying to test the battery life right now using the intel GPU, that would mess up his test if he did run an intense thing like that.
Prime95 is very intense on the CPU and on the RAM too if you do it in blend testing mode, then you could run a game like Crysis afterwards to tax the videocard, that would shoot the temperatures thru the roof.
-
I usually use prime95 to get a max cpu temp and furmark to get a max gpu temp. Prime95 doesn't have its own temperature monitoring, so something like coretemp or everest is needed, but furmark has its own temperature monitoring. Both of these programs will basically stress the respective part as much as possible.
-
Thanks for all the pictures and info erathostenes, it's going to be hard for me to keep from pulling the trigger on one now since it seems to be looking good so far. Must...wait....till...July 4...for...chance of sale
-
Will a Momentus XT be able to fit into the Envy 14?
I plan on upgrading the envy 14 with a 500gb or 250gb momentus xt.
Btw, how does this work after I've installed the new drive? How would I get the Windows 7 OS on the new drive?? -
what do you mean learned the hard way? did you get a runaround or was it just not approved?
did you try paypal? or straight up credit card? -
i used my credit card. and hard way because it took 1,200$ out of my account and put it on hold for 10 days.
-
either use the recovery disc creation software to create your own disks or download a windows 7 iso of the internet for free and activate it with the code on the bottom of your laptop.
-
Argentina can't win. Maradona. Naked. Not good.
@Thread
Any words about noise? -
Can you run HWMonitor while doing those tests?
CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
Maradona's insane. Awesome, but insane.
-
A little OT, but I just came across this site yesterday. A friend recommended it to me. I thought this might be handy, since hopefully many of us will be going thru a new PC set on the Envy sooner or later.

Once you get the battery figured out...can any of you test playing a large video file. Screen doesnt have to be full brightness. Wifi off.
Then provide after a few minute of playing what the time estimate is on the battery?
These 2:50 and 3:12 screenshots are quite concerning to me. If it can't get 4 hours out of the standard battery I might have to cancel my order. -
I didnt bring the packaging back from school. This noon UPS called me on my cell when they were at my door and I didnt open.. We arraged for the guy to meet my on the street in front of my school...
I will be able to upload on monday...
