Battery life varies depending on product configuration, model, settings, loaded applications, utilized features. As with all batteries, maximum capacity decreases with time and use. Battery life times based on MobileMark 2007 battery benchmark. Reported times are with wireless functionality off.

This is written at the bottom of the buy page of the envy 14 on hp store. The trick here is that no battery life is clearly written on that page, and the envy 14 is in the 3-5 hours of battery life category of the store.

I'd rather see diversified testing to accommodate more types of users. One thing I've found is that there really isn't such a thing as typical user. Just average.

It's all good as long as they report brightness, wifi on/off, what types of program(s) used, etc. This way posters can look and say, "hey, I kind of use my kit that way."

Right, you mean which CPU passes the CPU/GPU bottleneck? I don't think any of them will considering that the GPU is mid-tier. That's usually a concern for enthusiast level GPUs.

Benchmarks don't really bear that out. One has to play a few games to figure that out. Games really take the system to task. In fact, if one wants to know how hot things can get... game.

They're getting to us in Washington state today, all of my friends who don't have them haven't gotten their mail yet...4 calculus 4 english for me :D

IIRC the 5650 pulls about the same frames on Crysis that the original 8800gts does, and again iirc the desktop c2d 6600 kept up with the 8800gts, 2.4ghz of c2d which means that pretty much any of the i5ms should be fine..?

Well, I drew pictures on most of the free response on calculus AB, so unless they give bonus points for artistic ability, I've got money on a 1, gotta do my part to help the curve you know :p . I'm probably good in lit & comp though.

I took the Art and the French AP... fell asleep during the French cause it's useless and mentioned the word prostitute several times during the oral section, and the art one is even more useless. Haha

I got my BC calc last year.. a freakin' 3. My teacher didn't teach for the AP.. or in general taught.

So people, because I'm getting the 160GB SSD, do you think I should throw in a Caddy or buy a cheap external drive? Buying an external drive is cheaper but caddy would be less of a hassle at the end of the day.

Is this forum about AP scores or Envy 14??

BTW, AP tests are a total waste of money if you end up going to a university because most schools require a 4 or 5 for credit, and you will end up taking the class anyways.

Actually, if you sent your scores to your respective college/university, they should've appeared online in the past week. Might just be California though.

I'd get an external like the WD Passport that doesn't need a power source so you can store photos projects whatever on it and then be able to easily pass share with friends.

My college (Maryland) has such a terrible on line system I don't think they could post 'em if they wanted to.

On topic: it should have an expected build date? The next stage is like "dropped to factory" or something.

I ordered yesterday and now mine says Order dropped to factory, so I guess that's next :)
Then I believe it's Order in production

Lol and ap tests are indeed a waste of money if you don't get a 4 or 5...

Well since this thread has gone off-topic for the past few pages I thought I'd take the time out to say Thanks to everyone in this thread. It's honestly been a pleasure talking to real-considerate people as opposed to condescending *******s (pardon my language :p ) on other forums out there. I hope to read more humorous posts (like the current AP discussion :D) and learn more about my/our awaited Envy 14's!!!

Heh, I figure there are enough students getting the Envy 14, and there are few enough people with the Envy 14, that we can go a bit off track, eh? 2.0 can call HP with his magic admin powerszzzz and have them delay my machine a week as punishment if I'm wrong here.

And they are so not a waste of money, I got three 4's which will get me out of calc 101, english 101, and compsci 101 at St. Mary's College of Maryland this fall, letting me take more interesting classes later. And in any event, AP classes and the balls to even attempt the test are looked at very well by college admissions departments.

Well, I don't think a 4 or 5 is out of reach. In undergrad, I was able to get out of an intro comp sci class with my AP compsci score. Instead, I was free to take another, more advanced class. I think that's a pretty fair deal.

I took a mathematical optimization class instead of Compsci 101 or whatever. The stuff I learned in there is now coming in handy in grad school, like four years later!

Glad to hear about all the forum posters taking AP calc, comp sci, physics and so on. Not to put down AP humanities at all, though; I took AP english way back in HS and enjoyed it! I'm now in grad school at a heavily technical university (in fact, people used to refer to us as 'tech!') and I can tell you that there definitely a need for more engineering/science type people, especially domestic (in my case, the US). Good luck to all of you... Time to earn your Envy 14s haha :D

Sometimes, you have to take a gamble with your AP credits. If you want, you can get credit and take advanced courses. But if you decide to retake the classes again, you will do very well and get an A. Those high grades will serve as a good cushion in case you do not so well on your more advanced courses. I guess this is very important for students who wish to pursue professional schools (medical, pharmacy school, etc)

This is how it broke down for me:

    13" MBP:
    Lighter
    Smaller
    Thinner

    Envy 14:
More battery life (with slice battery)
    Higher rez screen
    More powerful CPU/GPU

Price is about the same. So really it came down to form factor vs performance for me. I chose performance. I'm willing to live with a heavier/larger notebook to have slightly more battery life (with slice battery), a better LCD panel and more powerful hardware.

Its looking like a solid 4 hours with wifi on, browsing the net with brightness around 60%, which on this display may still be a bit too bright for some.

Considering its a 59whr battery, and the slice battery is 62whr, you can safely assume more than 8 hours battery life.

While its less than the claimed "14 hours" its still about the best *actual* battery life notebook on the market.
