I think I changed the video card setting to muxless fixed and dyn both. and the HD to AHCI, and also the thermal setting, like lower the threshold value that the fan will start.

I am not sure the modded bios really changes anything. because the scenario for mux and muxless is exactly the same for me: total black screen. maybe I should use muxless fixed mode?

Do a clean reinstall using Intel and AMD's driver, not HP nor leshcat.

Did you at any point have UnifL or HP installed? If yes then it leaves residual dtd, lvds values and maybe even configs for the wrong virtual displays. I suggest restoring windows to an earlier time before you tried any hp or UnifL drivers.

yes, I did try to use the unifl and hp driver. But after trying, I have clean installed the windows again and again, i mean delete the partition and clean install. so there is no way that some residual would be left. I finally get this works by use the stock windows update driver, and use the Unifl tool to change the FTC value to FFFF. and the brightness adjustment is not working anymore.

P.S. the AMD Mobility Radeon™ Driver Verification Tool do not let me download the catalyst driver.

    This is strange...
From a clean install of windows 8.1
using the new or old bios.
when you are using the fixed muxed mode. the 3d and switch work 100% out of box ( the only drawback is the Microsoft driver always are the stable one from amd and little late.

when using the muxless options under new bios mod need work well to.
    My one works well.

again, I have a non 3d envy17 (2001eg). clean win8.1-64bit. muxless fixed and dyn in new bios. windows update driver.
switch to 6850M, then monitor goes black.

From my knowledge your device need to work this way out of box when using the windows drivers and your configuration.
Try to turn the switch automatic by power cable and then restart your compuer...

    HI, thanks for the help.
But i don't really understand what you mean. After the both driver are installed, the 6850M is not activated. So i have to go into the catalyst and change the switch method from "switch determined by applications" to "switch manually or by power source", in order to activate 6850M.
I use the brightness fix tool in Unifl, and change the FTC value from F000 to FFFF to fix this problem, even I didnt use the Unifl driver.

    Hi,

I've got an Envy 17 2000eu and have the same problem as ghostwhisper. After flashing Donovan6000s modded BIOS I get all earlier hidden menus. I've tried with both muxed and muxless, it's still the same problem as before the flash. I need to change the FTC to FFFF.
I'm also using the standard drivers downloaded through Windows update.

If they setup the bios to fixed muxed and installed the default windows 8.1 driver no.
They are not using 3d models. It's just the card switch.
I’m to reinstall windows 8.1 using an external sata hd later and get the concept proof.

    If you have time.
setup your bios to fixed muxed card.
    Reinstall windows 8.1 from 0.
Do all updates ( 2 intel updates and one amd update).

After restart enter catalyst and change the options to automatic change when power cord is attached.
    This need to work.
then unplug the energy cable to test the intel driver.

The intel driver under Catalyst_14.1_Beta_v1.6_UnifL intel driver is 100% broken to us.
JUST USE the CATALYST DRIVER from this pac.

    Soo.
    Lets go..
    First of all.
    @ VonCrisp
The Catalyst_14.1_Beta_v1.6_UnifL intel driver is 100% broken to us.
The CATALYST driver is working 100% correct.

    Then my test.
    Clean install from windows 8.1
Disabled network and all automatic updates.
Downloaded the Catalyst_13.12_WHQL_UnifL_rev_1.2 and extract ( do not install).
downloaded the Catalyst_14.1_Beta_v1.6_UnifL and extract ( do not install).

setup the moded bios to fixed muxed value.
Then inside the Driver/Catalyst_13.12_WHQL_UnifL_rev_1.2 install just the INTEL driver.
    after
inside the Driver/Catalyst_14.1_Beta_v1.6_UnifL install just the AMD CATALYST drivers.

    Restart

After restart set-up the catalyst to change the cards automatic when the power cord are conected/disconected.

    Restart your windows.

    Everything is 100% functional.
( it's slow to change from one to another card, but work).

After everything working, go into modeded bios and change the muxless dynamic or powerneed way.

Everything works... from intel to amd and amd to intel ( is slow, but work)..

    My model, envy 17 3d 2100CTO ..

    Hi, Fritz
your way does not work at all. I almost tried every combinations.
the problem is that the intel driver in Unifl (both 13.12 and 14.1) cannot be installed at all. there is an error occur during the installation, the installation failed in win7,win8,win8.1 (all 64bit). the MD5SUM of the Unifl has been checked, which insures that the driver is not corrupted.
I try to use the intel driver from official website. and the amd driver from Unifl, it does not work.
finally, I found a way that it could work. ======> clean win8.1, fixed muxed, install the HP amd driver first, then install amd 13.12 driver from official website. keep the bios in fixed muxed. the screen does not go black, the switch works fine.
so the conclusion is that the 3D version is definitely different from the non 3D version. and there is no way around. but at least the mod bios allow us to install the newest driver.

PS. can you tell me how do you install the win8.1 in a gpt partition? without a uefi? how does that happened? I do have tool that can convert the MBR partition into GPT partition without data loss. but i think the windows will not boot after the conversion.

You are using the wrong version of intel driver.

The intel driver from Catalyst_13.12_WHQL_UnifL_rev_1.2 work very well with 3d version. No idea about the non 3d version.

The GPT one was my mistake. windows 8.1 destroy the gpt partition without tell us he is doing this when he is being installed.

Fritz is correct. The 14.1 intel version had changes done to the Intel driver to obtain better switching. This backfired for some cards and I would highly advise in using an older UnifL Intel driver if needed.

The most stable one is 3223 Intel. The UnifL version contains the dtd and lvds changes which make it tick with the 6850.

Still haven't had time to trial things on my machine since I am away. Will update when I can.

install the legacy and later do a windows update ( the windows will install the newer ) and all the changes made to work in unifl will be working to..

Awesome! Thanks @f_r_i_t_z, @Voncrisp and all the other guys here who posted their results.

I'm now good to go with Windows 8.1 x64. Last year I had given up trying to get Switchable graphics to work and went back to Windows 7.
My system is a Envy 17-2070nr and is not 3D

So my current setup is I have the modded bios with video settings set to Muxless Fixed and Dynamic and I'm using Leshcat's Catalyst_13.12_WHQL_UnifL_rev_1.2 drivers with FTC set to F000.
It took a lot of trial and error to get it working to be honest. I also had to clean install Windows 8.1 after I upgraded the bios because it wouldn't start. Only Windows 7 would boot - I'm dual booted.

Now as far as temperatures, I had initially posted in this thread about doing a second mod to my heatsink and fans. I did the mod with the copper tape and sand paper but never got around to posting my results as I've been busy and couldn't do any gaming.
Anyway, after that the lowest I had gotten was an average 45 degrees at idle.
Now with the modded bios and lowering the temps for when the fans come on, I've been able to get down into the high 30's while using Microsoft Office and browsing. (still haven't tested gaming performance yet)
    My current temps:
    View attachment 109397

So all in all this modded bios has been awesome, despite it being years since the laptop was released. Thumbs up to donovan6000 for unlocking the bios

Hi all, I've an Envy2090el and I still have a lot of problems with AMD+Intel drivers. I tried months ago to install leshcat but I had black screen with 6850m. I saw in your forum that with a modded bios is possible to install leshcat driver without problem, is right?
I saw in donovan's blog but I don't know what BIOS I need to download, any suggest? After that what video settings I need to change? Thanks in advance :)

    Install the HP coolsense.
The hot you feel near keyboard is not from video card or cpu but from chipset. The chipsed in this devices produce a lot of heat. Instead hp put a good dissipation or cooler they create the coolsense to low all the devices energy/frequency to low power mode.

Note that with the new bios if you are using the both cards same time ( on demand mode), both cards work same time. The intel or amd in low power mode but still active.

Hi my friend, I check the forum and find this conversation, only replace 2 archives in the folder of Leshcatlabs Catalys 14.2 and work good, is correct my action to install drivers?

    Hi All!

I have cooked up some drivers for Windows 7 based on 13.9 WHQL for the 6850m. Currently I have been testing these on the 120Hz edition and I think they are ready!

Windows 8.1 hasn't been done yet since I am still running into some issues.

Please note that the installer puts your Windows into Test Mode since these drivers haven't been signed yet and need it to run.

    Download the drivers here: https://mega.co.nz/#!NdJn2a7b!OBS7Fz...xEBMo_NggMGKoU

Pick the Intel 3223 Driver when extracting.

Replace the INF files in the Intel and AMD folders with the one provided in the Catalyst_13.9_WHQL_UnifL_PT_6850m.rar

    X\Catalyst_13.9_WHQL_UnifL_PT\AMD\13.9\Packages\Drivers\Display\WB6A_INF
    X\Drivers\Catalyst_13.9_WHQL_UnifL_PT\Intel\9.18.10.3223\Graphics

Install separately as per the Readme instructions. Don't bother with the auto installer since that is still in testing.

These drivers have been tested on the 120Hz version of the 6850m and work on Windows 7.
If you just have a 6850m they will most likely also work on all versions but 120Hz is only supported by 7 right now.

Make sure you have a clean environment before you install!

Note: the switching method of this driver is different to how it was done before. One of the symptoms upon the first boot after the AMD installation is that the screen will switch 2 times before Windows becomes happy.
This only happens upon first boot! It should look like this: You can see the Welcome Screen - Black screen for 6 seconds - Low res screen for 6 seconds - Perfect screen with full working switchable!

One last thing to note is that brightness control has to be done through the usual way through the UBR tool after setup!

These will be adopted to 8.0 and 8.1 and signed eventually!

    Enjoy!

    Try these instead:

    F.1D "new" ;)

I went through a couple of UnifL releases and there has been some serious screw up in the Intel config for the 6850m.

Looks like when AMD pushed more towards dynamic switching the fixed switching suffers as a results in the newest drivers. This happened somewhere around/after 13.8.

Past drivers will have to be reuploaded on UnifL.

Anyone got an idea of what the best AMD driver is currently? (performance)

So!! any news about this bios changelog? I'm afraid of flash something new in our device now we have the moded bios.
I'm playing with the moded bios and MAYBE soon I'm to post something for you test ... Maybe a solution in acpi to the screen brightness..
from the UEFI boot site. Yes i unlock this. No, doesnt work. We dont have the UEFI boof imagine inside our bios. to be honest, our bios is coded by a monkey.
The good side, Its out of box working with linux lol. But not working in windows.

waiting news from this 1d bios.

UEFI :O that is good news! I can understand your feelings in not wanting to flash since we have a good thing going on with the modded BIOS!

My device came back from HP with F.1D .. I would dump it for everyone if I knew how. HP Support wasn't helpful last time I called them up. They didn't fix half of my issues and couldn't provide me with the BIOS update.

The current goal is to try and fix the UnifL / Intel packs for the 6850m to see what works and what doesn't.

So: (Changing FTC values depending on drivers/ testing on Win 7, 8.1/ 2D vs 3D Envy/ Dynamic Switching vs Fixed/ AMDs move from fixed support to dynamic in recent drivers)

I guess FTC values on fixed switching is taking a back seat on my side since one of our members is MIA at the moment but I think you and Donovan are probably the closest people to finding out how it works. I pinged Donovan with an idea and compliments but am waiting for his reply.

If anyone knows how to dump the BIOS I can do it ASAP. I am not certain about the changelog. The BIOS is dated : 1/29/2013

The idea here is for you your bios backup for yourself.
donovan6000's Blog: Insyde BIOS Modding: Manually Changing Settings
Lets enable overclocking on all 6 and 7 series laptops
    cd C:\Users\Domino\Desktop\ME 6.0.0.1184\ME 6.0.0.1184\Tools\System Tools\Flash Programming Tool\Windows
    fptw.exe -d output.bin -BIOS

Look inside your HP_TOOLS partition, there MAYBE you have the bios flashed by hp service. inside the folders you have the images flashed from hp..

No idea if will work or this is the same from our board. BUT when you start to flash using the insydeflash from moded bios.
Before he go ahead he open a confirmation page giving you the ok about the board id and model.

That looks like Envy 17 3xxx maybe?

It might even be the same BIOS for all we know.

I didn't find the BIOS in the Tools partition. Only my "old" one.

Am trying to get ME to run.

I also tried running the insydeflash under windows from that link. It didn't give me any info on current BIOS.

Alright I made an output dump with the FPT tool.

From what I understand this isn't the best way of doing it correct?

    Okay so we need:

    0159BF1D.BIN

The link you provided is probably for the 3xxx series 01590F1D.BIN. I am not certain if using my BIOS rom dump is a good idea ( I don't mind but I am not sure if there are any drawbacks since it probably has my information)

    It's for 3xxx because of 7690M, I think the 2xxx only have 6850M

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum, I salute you all from Argentina.
I will explain my problem. Few days ago I bought a laptop HP ENVY 17 2070nr (not 3D). Install Windows 8.1 on the laptop, but when installing the video drivers (ATI 6850M) and restart the computer, the entire screen goes black color and no way to remove it. Try many ways to solve the problem but there was no solution.

Is there a solution to the problem?
Can I get help? because in my country I did not find any solution.

PS: The translation is made with GOOGLE TRANSLATOR.

    my apologies.

    A big hug for everyone.

    Hey there!

Your easiest solution would be the BIOS mod since it allows Dynamic switching. You won't have the same issues with brightness control on AMD and standby issues.

Read through this forum and obtain the BIOS mod (Check which BIOS you have first).
