Congrats!!!!
This is only fair on HP's part. EVERYONE should call Resolutions and get what's owed to them if they have had their order delayed.

Guys, i'm about to buy a desktop replacement notebook. I'm torn between Hp Envy 17 SB (non 3D) and Asus G73SW (also non 3D).
Both laptop has similar config, Both has the new Core i7-2630QM, 8Gb RAM, etc.. the only difference is VGA (Nvidia GTS460 vs ATI 6850), and HDD (640Gb 5400rpm vs 500Gb 7200rpm hybrid). Both also has similar price.
I would assume Asus might be better in cooling performance, I read many complaints about previous gen Envy17 overheating. I am wondering if the sandy bridge Envy 17 has revised it's thermal design? Is overheating still an issue? -
Backlit keyboard on Envy is hardware...Asus...software
Envy weighs just over 7 lbs with battery...Asus...almost 11
First hand experience with HP Tech support (older Pavillion)...B+
Go to the Asus boards and read the complaints about Asus changing configurations without owner permission...keeping laptops over a month for repairs (Asus repair centers don't stock parts...they order as needed and sometimes takes a long time to arrive)
As far as performance...I give the Machines a tie. I am an Nvidia person and really prefer the GTX460M card in the Asus...but having used the 6850 in the Envy...it rocks!
Both machines are attractive in their own way. Asus is very stealth. Envy is class all the way. Asus is about two and a half inches thick...Envy just over an inch.
DVD burner in Asus is faster tray load...Envy is slot loaded.
Asus comes with the mobile P65 chipset...Envy has mobile P67.
Asus has one USB 3.0 and three USB 2.0. Envy has Two USB 2.0, One USB 2.0 / Esata combo and one USB 3.0.
Asus has 2 mp webcam. Envy has HD webcam
I think you have a win win going on. I hope some of these points help... -
Mklasse, you may want to configure an Envy 17 3D with the same specs as what you are currently considering. I personally have no interest in 3D, but when you upgrade the processor in the 17 to the 2630qm, and add the 1080p screen, the price becomes $100 more than a similarly spec'd 17 3D. Also you'll get a free blu-ray drive. Also, the 3D screen is higher quality, better contrast/colors and all that because when watching 3D, one loses a lot of contrast, so the screen has to be higher quality to start with.
TL;DR - If you're going with an envy 17 that's higher than the base model, get the 17 3D. It's cheaper. And better. -
trucha is correct...PLUS...the screen on the Envy 17 3D is 120 Hz. One other difference...Envy 17 3D comes with Beats sound...much better overall AND the 3D glasses
-
The more compact form factor of the Envy really attracts me, it looks more of a versatile machine rather than a dedicated gaming rig.
With that comparison, and knowing the heating issues is resolved, I think i'm going for the envy.
Again, thank you, your post is very helpful.
The thing is, I'm ordering this machine through a private importer, I don't know if they're going to charge a lot more for the 3D feature as lately it's sort of a "hot feature" on laptops and LED televisions here.
HP Indonesia hasn't officially introduced the sandy bridge Envys here in Indonesia, they are still selling the Clarksfield Envy 17 3D for more.
The Sandy bridge Envy configured above sold thru unofficial private importer is about US$2,000, the Clarksfield Envy17 3D (i7-840QM) sold officially by HP Indonesia is about US$2,400. Crazy crazy pricing.
For some reason I noticed Asia pacific pricing for notebook computers is a lot higher than North American pricing.. (except Apple computers, their pricing is about the same).
I already sent an e-mail enquiring about the Envy 17 3D SB, hopefully the price difference is not a lot vs the 2D version.
Thanks guys, I really appreciate your input -
..my Envy is basically going to be a mobile SC2 machine -
My ENVY was due today but is yet to show up.. not that I found that surprising after reading this forum! ..my only hope is that being in Aussie maybe we're closer to where they're built (Singapore I believe?) so mine may land sooner.. fingers crossed!
The local PC store has the Vertex 3 in stock so can pick one up whenever I need.. -
Count me in... I just ordered my Envy 17 3D the other day and now the wait is on. Hopefully it ships sooner than the estimated ship date of april 21. I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Pretty much the base model. I figure I can throw in a SSD later when I have more money. GF wouldn't let me spend any more right now lol. I can't complain though. It seems like a really good value in my opinion. Huge upgrade from the toshiba satellite a305d i am dealing with now, and will outperform my q9550/HD4850 based desktop.

Haha cool deal. Yeah I've been debating the SSD issue. Depending on how things look at the time I get the Envy I may spring for one.
-
I found one more interesting tidbit for you...Hopefully the Intel toolbox will help you a great deal. Also...make sure that the drive is running in AHCI mode...that will increase performance again. Look here:
GUIDE - Enabling AHCI mode AFTER Windows 7 Installation - Guru3D.com Forums
This will help enable AHCI after Windows is installed. I never realized how much of a pain SSDs can be. When installing a clean version of Win7...I didn't know that it had to be done in IDE mode or the OS crashes. AHCI has to be enabled later...thus better performance. Granted...SSDs are faster...but to get them running properly is some work... -
Today is 4/7/2011...did you all read that another Earthquake hit Japan???
7.1 with Sunami warnings...Man...pray for the Japanese people...they are getting slammed!
http://abcnews.go.com/video/playerIndex?id=6046305 -
Wow that's truly terrible. And while I hate not having the envy in my hands right now its really NOT the end of the wold that some people are making it out to be....
Oddly enough my cell phone is doing an adequate job of keeping me "connected". Gotta love unlimited data on AT&T haha...
I will pray for the people of Japan though. They really don't deserve this. -
-
Edit: In case you guys didn't know China is where the laptops ship from. Shortages of parts from Japan should hardly be causing delays as there a dozens of other providers of parts elsewhere. -

Thanks for this link. Looks advanced but I think I can do it. Checked out the steps with my Vista system and it looks straight forward. Would feel more assured if you and/or cam121 performed the procedure and posted success.
Would so appreciate, when you receive your system and the details are fresh in your mind, that you post your step by step process to optimize your system especially as it pertains to configuring the dual ssd + hdd drive. I know that many of these steps have been posted before but your explanations are clear. Would also appreciate your assuming your audience is somewhat inexperienced in these matters.
Thanks so much. -
Will be more than glad to...once it shows... -
The last time i did some thing like formating hard drive and restoring OS was in 4 years ago and so would very much appreciate a detail step-by-step instructions. -
Its just the truth. I'm sorry but in the face of that I fail to see why I or anyone else should be raging about a piece of technology that is delayed for a couple of weeks.... -
-
Why people rage or don't rage shouldn't be your concern. Perhaps you don't see it as your right to be upset when a contract is broken, and that is fine however we as consumers do actually have rights, both legally and from a logical aspect.
When you pay for a product, you have held your end of the bargain, HP has not by not yet providing the laptop in a timely fashion that they themselves set forth.
HP has said, if I am not mistaken, that the Earthquake/Tsunami/Reactor issues in Japan would NOT delay the Envy series, so then what exactly has delayed the Envy production? -
I have officially joined the "Waiting on my envy to be shipped" group.
Thanks to this forum for teaching me that with patience comes great savings.

So I went ahead and placed an order of Envy17 3D. Should arrive here in about 3-5 weeks, can't wait!
Thank you guys! -
I'm getting ready to order my Envy 3D (chose over the new Sony CB), and I have one question before I take care of this awesome coupon out right now: Does the Envy have WiDi???? The demo says so, but I want to make sure...
-
Would be another $90 off in the end. Or I just wait till I get my delayed notice on Tuesday ,0) -
Ok guys.. Ive been on and off here. Ive been wanting to order but Ive been held back for two things: No basic 7200 RPM hard drive and no coupon code. And I wasnt about to pay $2350 for a laptop (with the SSD upgrade). I just found a 25% OFF COUPON. Yes, 25%!!!! I check to see if its good and, low and behold its still good (450 uses). So I just called HP and ordered the following:
•Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
•No Additional Office Software
•2nd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2630QM (2.0 GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.9 GHz
•1GB GDDR5 Radeon(TM) HD 6850M Graphics [HDMI]
•8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
•800GB 7200RPM Dual Hard Drive (SSD 160GB + 640GB 7200RPM)
•6-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery (standard) - Up to 2.25 hours of battery life +++
•17.3" diagonal Full HD HP 3D Ultra BrightView Infinity LED Display (1920x1080)
•Blu-ray player & SuperMulti DVD burner
•HP TrueVision HD Webcam
•Intel 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R)
•Backlit Keyboard
•Adobe(R) Photoshop(R) Elements 9 & Adobe Premiere(R) Elements 9
•HP 3D Active Shutter Glasses
•HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
Price was $2239.99 + tax
(-25%) -$560
= $1679.99
On a whim I asked the salesperson if they can offer any other discount because I was on a tight budget and she took off another $100!!!
Im in shock. I couldnt get $100 off this laptop a week ago and all of a sudden I got $660 off!!!!! $660!!!!!!!!
FINAL COST
$2239 + tax
- $660 in discounts
---------------------
= $1579 + tax
IM EXTATIC!!!!!!!!! Being patient was hard but it definitely paid off. -

I'm glad you are on board with us Envy 17 3D SB owners, and the SSD club, sweet. We are gonna have a good time pimping our systems once they arrive. Stay tuned.....
P.S. You almost matched my deal, lol. From my calculations your savings in percent wise comes out to be about 29.5% nice. Mine was about 26.4% so I would imagine you have the best savings of all!
KJ -
KJ, its a 25% discount. I'm going to call HP tomorrow and see if they want to throw that $100 my way as well. We will see.

25% off HP Laptops $999+ Coupon Code: MU6192
Good luck everyone.

Hmm... Off on original price of $1709.99 I got -$500 from the original coupon I used... The total was $1,317.38 with tax. And they are refunding me another $110 which brings it down to $1207 taxed/shipped. That's just a bit under 30% off, so I don't think this new coupon will help me.
-
KJ -
collectiveantics Notebook Enthusiast
Yup, this is definitely an excellent coupon. It's basically the equivalent of $375 off at the minimum.
-
Ordered my envy 6 days ago. Now I'm gonna order another one just to use this coupon lol.
-
KJ -
Was debating waiting till morning (it's 1:30am now) but the coupon is listed on Slickdeals and other deals sites, and with only 450 uses it'll be gone quick. So looks like i'll be the proud owner of 2 envy 17 3d's lol. Gonna have to call resolutions tomorrow and see if we can work something out. Has anyone successfully cancelled an order after it's gone thru?
Previously paid $1530 after TN tax (10%!), now it'll only be $1270. Awesome! -
$2,664.99 + tax -666.25=$1998.74 add the 4 year accidental damage warranty coverage at $299.99 and it adds up to $2,298.74
Or HP's HPA price same set up with the discounts and its $2,666.48
For about $367.74 difference I'm pulling the trigger if I get that extra $100 off that's $467.74 off total from the HPA price. This is dropping me to:
$2,198.74 + tax with the coupon and a hundred more off total
$2,964.98 + tax; this beats the list price of the HP site
$2,666.48 + tax HPA price
$766.24 in total savings... and $467.74 less than HPA pricing, go figure!
Your ENVY 17 3D series
Operating system Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit upgrading through MS cuz its cheaper
No Additional Office Software I came to this party with my own
Processor 2nd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2820QM (2.3 GHz, 8MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 3.4 GHz
Graphics card 1GB GDDR5 Radeon(TM) HD 6850M Graphics [HDMI]
Memory 8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
edit
Hard drive 800GB 7200RPM Dual Hard Drive (SSD 160GB + 640GB 7200RPM)
Primary battery One 6-Cell and One 9-Cell Lithium Ion Battery

Nicoooooooooooole Notebook Enthusiast
Okay so I was pretty upset when my HP wasn't ship by its estimated date of 'April 6'. I already waited like 3 weeks since I ordered it on March 16, 2011. I called HP yesterday and asked them what was the hold up, this retarded representative who said my laptop might come around the 18th. I told her countless on times that I received a E-mail from HP saying the twelfth. I was about to get really upset on the phone so I let it go.
This is a huge inconvenience for me because I need this laptop for school. I immediately took back my 39 bucks I spent for 2 business days shipping, which I didn't receive because the laptop wasn't ship yet, so now I gotta wait for that too.
Oh btw does my HP Envy 17 3D come with Sandy Bridge since I ordered it on the 16 of March? -
So, I already bought my 80GB SSD and caddy for my soon to be Envy. I think I still want to replace the 5400 HDD with a 7200 drive. Any suggestions?
I was thinking about throwing a Momentus XT hybrid drive. Would that be too weird? -
Yeah I noticed the heat wave! I wanted to inform you once the Envy 17 3D models started shipping. It looks like customers in Germany had theirs send to them today so that they will be receiving it tomorrow.
Not sure about all the neighbouring countries as of yet as one fellow NBR members mentioned that they are not available in Austria yet.
Switzerland has a buy status for 48h shipment, the Netherlands has them on their site, and Dubai is supposed to receive theirs in 2 weeks.
So the UK cant be far off!!!!! -
Maybe if call HP and tell them that you sent me for a 30% off + $150 credit + a free, then i might pull the trigger.. LOL
-
Jose, I think you'd rather just get your Envy for free, lol. Seriously, this is a darn good coupon code, and besides, get the SSD/HDD combo. This way you get 160GB SSD with 640GB 7200rpm drive. You can't lose. If you want to wait...then before you know it, Ivy Bridge will be here.
