The Momentus XT Hybrid drive is NO faster than the Western Digital Scorpio black or Samsung drives. You pay a premiium for a Solid State buffer...thats about it.

Seagate Momentus XT Review | StorageReview.com

I would personally go with the Western Digital Scorpio Black 750 and the 5 year warranty that goes with it. I have used WD drives forever and their support is unequaled...just my 2 cents

So, if you saw my saga above, I received the 15% discount and also the email saying I could cancel my belated order. I ordered a second at 15% discount, and then canceled the pushback order.

Just received email BOTH orders have shipped the day after I canceled my delayed order. Resolutions said that if my canceled order ends up shipped, I can send back w/out shipping or restocking fees.

Of course I'm keeping the 15% discounted order as the money saved also went to a 2 day delivery. So at least one should be arriving shortly, by Wed or Thur I imagine. Whatever glitch they had seems to be solved (at least for mine).

...Intel's upcoming Ivy Bridge platform may show its face come May 30.

    Wikipedia:
...Ivy Bridge is the codename given to the 22 nm die shrink of the Sandy Bridge architecture. During the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) on September 13, 2010, Intel's CEO Paul Otellini mentioned that Ivy Bridge processors may be introduced as early as in the second half of 2011.[53] According to early roadmap details, Intel is estimating that Ivy Bridge will offer a 20 percent CPU performance advantage over Sandy Bridge.[54]

On the graphics side, there will be support for DirectX 11 and OpenCL 1.1, and Intel is targeting a 30 percent graphics performance and 20 percent overall performance boost compared to Sandy Bridge.[54] It seems that Ivy Bridge might get 16 EUs.[55][56] Ivy Bridge will also support PCI Express 3.0.[57] A new Panther Point chipset, to be released with the Ivy Bridge platform, will offer native USB 3.0 support, while Cougar Point chipsets will be backwards compatible with the Ivy bridge platform.

    Sofpedia:
...Ivy Bridge was tweaked to feature a DirectX 11 compatible GPU, that packs 30% more EUs and supports up to three independent displays and HDMI 1.4a, a PCI Express Gen 3 integrated controller as well as improved video encoding, decoding and transcoding capabilities.

As far as the operating platform employed is concerned, Ivy Bridge uses the same LGA 1155 socket as its 32nm sibling and will be launched together with the Panther Point chipset that brings native support for up to four USB 3.0 ports.

Also, FYI, I checked the FEDEX tracking number assigned on both systems and they arrive the same date (April 12-13, depending on customs). My original had the free 5-7 day free shipping, so it looks like HP may be upgrading delayed orders to 2 day shipping. I kind of like this because now I can pick the one with least defects or if there is a stuck/dead pixel, and then send the other back =)

To you it may seem expensive, but a i7-2820QM, SSD with 7200 HD, a 3D widescreen, better video, and its an Envy!

Also its 3.5 to 4 days pay for me... so no big deal.

I'm getting ready to make the call after I make a few cigarettes with my injector pumping out additive free tobacco into my flax paper tubes and enjoy at least 1 16oz cup of my fresh brewed Kona coffee and some Kau navel oranges I just squeezed.

I'm waiting to the bitter end before I say; Gee, I don't know this is awfully expensive! Maybe I should wait a month or two before I order... ...and see if I get that extra hundred off...

    I'll let you guys know!

Aloha from Kauai... it is so black outside!

$2,198.74 + tax with the coupon and a hundred more off total with 4 year accidental damage if I get that extra hundred buck off

God I'm really starting to believe I might as well wait till Ivy Bridge.

Actually scratch all that. Just read the entire article. I don't think I can wait till 2012 for a brand new laptop...

Well I just ordered mine and got a 29 April 2011 build/ship date to Hawaii, it flys all the way to Kauai and gets trucked that last 12 miles to my house.

I couldn't get the $100.00 extra off so I kept em on the phone for an hour trying to get it off and on and when it came time to ring it up I found out you lose the $100.00 instant discount on the 4 year accidental damage insurance and extended warranty.

The guy I talked to, Paul, in Boise Idaho said the rep and supervisor that popped on that extra hundred off could possibly lose their job in the conjunction with its use with the coupon code! Now if anyone really got that deal and wants to PM me and lets talk order numbers to see if I can just reorder and cancel my order... Oh yeah I'm all for getting some diesel money, It cost me $168 bucks to fill my tank here!

You know what I pulled the trigger anyways, $200.00 won't kill me because I make that in about a hour and a half...

$2,398.73 + Tax with Coupon Code: MU6192 Thats $1.64 a day cost for four years use, Coffee money...LOL
    $566.25 I saved off list & $267.75 off of HPA pricing !!

$2,666.48 + Tax HPA This includes the instant $100 off the extended warranty

$2,664.99 for the computer w/o extended warranty was dropped to $1,998.74 with the discount code MU6192

    $2498.66 GRAND TOTAL WITH TAX

The end result is I got mine decked out to the Nine's with the extended coverage.

After I gave the coupon code I told her I was on a tight budget and I really dont want the Dual Drive but Im forced to because I NEED a 7200 RPM for work. So I asked if she can do anything else on top of the couypon to keep it at my budget. She said yes we can give you another $100 off. Just to be clear that extra hundred is being REFUNDED to my credit card after its shipped. I was really happy with the 25% coupon alone, but getting the extra hundred made me delirious.

Wow, 25% coupon sounds awesome, but you know what, at this point i just want my Envy, even if I could have saved $200 by reordering. The earlier build date is worth that money for me right now.

It seems pretty clear cut. She was one of the "sweet/kind" HP reps that one wishes to get, and frankieo11 simply just asked, and he got it. That's that. :D

Hello everybody! I've been following this forum from day one but never posted because I didn't really have anything to contribute. But now I do.

The order for my envy 17 3d was placed on march 23rd and it said that my expected build/ship date would be april 13th. And after seeing that everybody's orders were being delayed I naturally figured that my order would be delayed as well. When I went to check up on my order today it said that it had shipped. From what I've read, it doesn't say that it has been shipped and given a tracking number if the order is delayed so I'm pretty sure that this is real.

As of 12:02 AM tomorrow (I think it's cool that my laptop is traveling back in time to get here)it has been in transit. It says it's in Shanghai, China. Actually, it says it's in SHANGHAI china. And instead of china it says CN but I found it sightly amusing that shanghai was in all caps. And sorry if this is too rambly, I'm just really excited.

KJ, yeah she was really nice and to the point. Its amazing how they all vary but I did notice one thing. The ones that are foreign are easier to talk to. She had an accent so Im assuming I got one that was overseas. Some of the reps want to make you happy and some coudlnt care less about making you happy and are fine with telling you NO without hesitation. I mean outside of the $100 they really didnt GIVE me anything because I had a coupon. Theres no negotioation there.

Not sure if it's been mentioned already, but if you already have an order in and haven't already used coupon MU6192, they will honor it under the price protection guarantee. I just called up to try and modify my order and ended up with the full coupon value off my original order from 3 days ago credited to my account. I still might cancel and reorder though. The difference covers the upgrade to 2.3 ghz i7 and 8gb ram...

So, if you haven't already, get on the phone and get a credit with that coupon. It expires tomorrow.

I said an AWESOME movie, not uhm...what's a nice word for garbage? LOL, sorry, I've heard plenty that Avatar is a super horrible movie, :( and the only thing saving it is the special effects. Now, I don't buy movies for special effects.

When I do buy a bluray movie, its because its TIMELESS. As I've posted many posts back, such as the Godfather, Scarface, Star Wars....you get it I think. ;) I did buy Batman The Dark Knight for my first Envy 17 3D.

Yes!!! I used the 25% coupon code on my Envy 3D and it worked!!! I'm so content now. So now I'm getting back 540 bucks. Makes waiting suck less. Thanks for the information! You made a poor college student extremely happy.

Yeah haha I was actually giving props to Frankieo11, but forums are extremely difficult to use when using a Blackberry. Thanks frankieo11! And thanks to you too Killa Joe! Eff it! Thanks to everyone!! :).

I've been reading that peoples 3Ds are being shipped. Hopefully mines comes within this week. Blackberry inferior internet can only go so far.

What!? It feels great! I was unhappy cause I spent 1,700+ bucks on this laptop. People (mom) were giving me hell cause it was expensive. I was starting to wonder if I had made a mistake purchasing this laptop. Projects were due, no laptop to do it on, having to stand and wait 30 mins just to use my school computers was getting pathetic fast. Knowing I'm getting something back is just... Wonderful!

And same with me too. I'm always the last person to know about coupons and what steps I should use to save cash. Thanks again for sharing.
