See my response post #1000. Go to your product page and download HP Quick launch software. I don't think the page includes that. That is the software that makes the hotkeys work. Make sure you are using the right set of software

Thank you for your respond. Yes I did save the SwSetup, but I isntalled on screen display from here. Is maybe that the problem?
Yes it is working and I can raise my volume level and backlight of keyboard. I will try now to unisnstall and install older version.
Thanks all for help. And will try to reinstall video drivers for blackscreen problems.

Finally got my Envy 17 back from repair after a week. They ended up replacing the battery, I'm so glad it was nothing major.

When I inspected the laptop it was filthy with finger prints & grease. How diffictult is it to wipe it down before they ship it? And there was also a scratch on the bottom cover next to the release latch & the cover was not even on correctly, bunch of MORONS. The so called tech probably put a screw driver to the latch. I will call HP Customer service tomorrow & let them have it! I will demand & new bottom cover & some sort of reinbursement! If anyone is going to scratch the laptop it should be me. Last of all they forgot to return my AC power brick & cord!

Now this is why I hate to send my laptop in for service!

Where are the 6 speakers located?
I count 2 on the front, and the single "stereo" speaker on top could count as 2.
    Where are the last 2?

I believe the two subwoofers underneath the removable plate complete the six speakers.

No.. There's only one subwoofer. And there's four speakers in the top above the keyboard if I'm not mistaken.. Along with two in the front where that mesh is..

The new Pavillions with ivy bridge are now up on website for ordering. I noticed some ordering options for hybrid drives for envy. The Pavillion has an option for back lit keyboard.

I am wondering how the envy 17 is going to follow, or I wonder if it will? I have not seen any plans out of HP for envy 17 with ivy bridge. Am I mistaken, and is the Envy desitined to ultrabook status in the way of spectre?

It has been awhile since I have seen the blueprints of the laptop, so I could be wrong, but if memory serves me correctly: there are two above the keyboard in the mesh, 4 in the mesh on the front, two behind each mesh pattern on the front, and one bass on the bottom of the laptop.

I think the Envy 17-3xxx is just too new to follow right now, isn't it? It was released in Feb. '12 in Germany :p But I hope it will follow later on. Perhaps not with Ivy Bridge (which isn't that spectacular if you have dedicated graphics), but with Haswell.

Brightness problem fixed!! Thanks for all people that helped me.
    Here is a solution.
    1. Uninstalled Ati drivers (and Intel if you have them), uninstall Hp on screen.
    2. Reboot!!
    3. Instal OLDER (9.2.0.1201) Intel Chipset drivers
    4. Reboot optional ( I rebooted)
    5. Install OLDER ati driver (from hp support page, 2000 version)
    6. After reboot brightness is working.

Will now try to install newer drivers from ati and intel.

Yeah it is a bit messed up that the lower line pavillion gets to have VGA output, Fingerprint reader and Ivy BRIDGE but ENVY does not.

but I dont understand why HP does not include the dual Band wireless card (2.4 & 5GHz) in Pavilion or at least offer an option for it. that would make DV7T my dream laptop. I would miss the audio nob of ENVY 17 but I think that is all to miss otherwise.

Officially it's only removable by HP Support.
You may also remove it, but there's a seal you have to break / peel with a screw underneath. This would void warranty.

It's a pity. You can open the laptop without a screw driver, but you need one for the battery :D

Ok, just found the culprit. It's ati 12.3 drivers that cause brightness problem. When you install them you lose ability to change brightness and there are problems with black screen (grapich does not swtich correctly).
What drivers for grapich card are you using? Official but outdated from HP or?

I just noticed the warranty period on the Pavillion is now 2 years like the envy. I really do wonder if the envy is going to be an ultrabook line, and the current configuration of the larger notebooks as we know it will be fading away. I just ordered a second one for my music catalogue computer, so glad I did. That should be arriving Thursday this week. My work/home lap top is a fully loaded envy 3D. The new one is an envy 17 with i5, 8GB RAM and 300 ssd hard drive. That is way more than what is needed to be my music catalogue computer, but I want somehting stand alone for it, and my current Toshiba I use is 9 years old and slow as snails.

Dell.... Dell inspiring 15 is getting IB. Why HP, why are you doing this to us? That's a far inferior line of notebooks than the envy series :/

Side note :props to the pr department for keeping it under wraps if there is an IB envy in the works.

Just got my Envy 17 i5 2.5 today for my music and video editing. All music and software loaded. It is blazing fast! I was told I would regret only getting duo core, but I cannot tell the difference with anything compared to my Envy 17 3D I use for work and other home stuff. I would really like to know who is the one evaluating all the computers and speeds, because hard to tell a difference between i5-2450M and i7-2860QM. I guess you need to be doing some really complex things concurrently to really see the difference. I mutlitask on both computers and I cannot tell the difference. I have 16GB RAM on 17 3D and 8GB on 17. The computers are only 2 months different in age. Build quality outstanding on both.

You need to update your wireless drivers. I think it's the latency that's causing the problems. Check the driver page for it.

Well. To find out for sure.. Get a latency checker program (I used this one: http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml). Turn off your wireless and see how it fares. Have your wireless on (Maybe loading a youtube video?) and check it. If there's a large difference, you need to update your drivers. Check this page for the drivers: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...ivers-hp-envy-15-3xxx-envy-17-3xxx-intel.html

Does anyone else have this fast-typing problem or a way to solve it? I have tried everything I can think of...I noticed the problem does not happen in Ubuntu but happens in any version of Windows 7...even running command prompt off of the windows 7 installation DVD! (With the touchpad disabled.)

Will re-ordering the laptop fix the issue as I'm still within my return period, or are all Envy 17's like this (non-3D)? This is already a replacement, so I'm not really going to go the repair route if I can avoid it.

Example of Issue: Numbers appear randomly when typing 'das' quickly

I contacted the HP support. They said, that they can reproduce the problem, but they don't know if that will be fixed. They even took F.07 from their download page. Support told me that it's safe to downgrade to F.05 since there is nothing "important" fixed in F.06. So I installed F.05 again and everything is fine.

Hey all, I just installed a intel 180gb 520 series SSD in my envy 17 3000. here are my crystal disk mark readings:

seq read 439 seq write 252
    512K read 361 512k write 242
    4k read 17 4k write 48
    4k(32) read 230 4k (32) write 236

Sorry, i tried to upload the image but even though its a very small jpg file it still wont let me upload it, anyway those are the ratings...

WEI is 7.9, and Rapid Share Storage shows its running at 6 GB/s SATA 3

Do these numbers look reasonable? Thanks in advance. Why is the 4k read so low?

Thanks Smurf56! I downgraded from F.07 to F.06 which did not fix the issue. Going from F.06 to F.05 did fix it.

I already initiated the exchange/refund process since I was nearing the end of the period, as HP support said it was a hardware issue when I called. Waiting for the case manager to call me back.

Does everyone with a F.06 or F.07 bios encounter this? I am wondering whether to be safe and get it replaced/refunded in case any future bios update would result in this (i.e. there is an underlying hardware issue only in certain systems like mine). I would feel guilty about wasting resources for no reason though.

    Hello all.

Everyone who want newer driver for they Envy you can find it here

Catalyst 12.x Apr18 UnifL for Hybrid Graphics

It's official drivers just prepackaged to be more stable. It installs fine, I tested and it's running very good. You can give it a try.

Can you post a screenshot of GPU-Z. Does it still list the AMD Radeon 7690m XT as a 6700 series card. I updated the drivers before with the 12.4 drivers listed under the envy 17 drivers page and it kept saying that it was a 6700m series. It downclocked itself which I didn't like.

Interesting...I was going to go for the Samsung 512GB SSD (roughly the same price as the Intel 480GB SSD), but waiting for Newegg to have a sale on either one of them before I pull the trigger. $799 is too high...but will go for it if it gets down around $625 or so.

What bios version do you have? I suspect you have F.06 since you received the latter on May 2.

This is really interesting. It seems there could be a hardware issue in those of us that have the issue if that indeed is the case.

Try pressing all three keys at once a few times (only with BIOS F.06 & F.07). I can't imagine that HP support - who confirmed the issue - has got just "defect" units.

It's not pressing all 3 keys at once as much as in sequence quickly. Trying doing something like 'dasf' quickly in a random order:

    Example (with issue):

    ad6sfa6sf6sdaf6dasfd6safsa6fsa6dfd6saf6sdafsd6afasfsa6das

Only the computer with the F.06 bios (might) show this problem, not the other one.
