This comes out weeks after I just order my lenovo... great. It looks pretty sick though. I might have to cancel my order.
Any word on when this will come out?

The screen alone puts the Envy in a class of its own. Considering that this is a major interface, and thus, an INCREDIBLY important part of the user experience, the Envy aces this category. The colour reproduction (according to older envy models) should be great, and the resolution very good!
Thankfully, the laptop doesn't skimp in other areas. HP really listened to customer feedback, and it shows. The Envy 14 is practically perfect. And the price is jaw-dropping!!
Let just hope that the quality lives up to the specs! If so, this will be my new lappie at some point this year.
}:^)~ -
How about Canada? Going by our current Envy situation, the prices here will suck! If I buy in the states and take it into Canada, is the warranty valid? What are my options here?
The Envy 14 with i5 540m, 5650 (or better), and 1600 x 900 screen is perfect. Compared to other 14"ers I was comparing:
Acer 4820TG - Crappy resolution screen, no eSATA, no release date!
Asus N82jv - Crappy resolution screen, some other things I forgot
Lenovo Y460 - Crappy resolution screen, only i5 520m available, heat issues
I was actually looking into buying a higher res LCD panel and swapping the screen myself with one of these lappys lol.
I can't wait! -
Hey, I posted this a few pages back but it seems to have gotten buried:
I'm really curious about HP's reliability. Could I expect to keep the Envy 14 for the next four years? Would a SquareTrade warranty through Amazon be sufficient insurance, or would you all recommend an HP Total Care package? -
Cant help you on reliability sencer but HP is a big brand and the envy line is their premium line. Nornally Premium lines have better reliability. BUt get a extended warranty just incase.
On another note.
Does anyone know what the dimensions are for the Envy 14? -

What is required for the 21 day return period? Can I just call up HP and stick everything in the original box and say I want to return it? Will they give me a free shipping label?
-
Maybe I won't care with the return information. The anandtech article here HP Unveils Latest Spring 2010 Laptops - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News says the Envy 14 starts with an i3 processor and optional discreet graphics. This tells me after getting an i5 and the ati graphics the price will probably be at least 1200, which automatically turns me off.
If the bottom of the barrel 999 price includes an i5 430 and the discreet graphics, I will consider returning my Envy 15 for it. -

Not sure if this has been posted. Another video of the Envy 14 and 17

Oh HP, please don't make another computer look great on paper and work like s**t. You are probably looking at your last chance for credibility in anything but the low budget, low quality marketplace. Do it right, and you have bought yourself a couple of percentage points of market share for a few years to come, knock Dell on it's heels, and rescue your absolute rock-bottom reputation for quality and technical support. Let's also hope there is new management in these areas. It won't take long to find out. Look no further than the NBR Owners Lounges! -
I sent back my Gen1 Envy 15 because of the lack of E2E display, backlit keyboard, and non-ACPI compliant BIOS and I told them as much: I wanted to run Linux on my Envy without it melting. They have subsequently put an edge-to-edge screen and a backlit keyboard into the Envy14 and I HOPE they fixed the BIOS. It seems like HP got enough Envy models returned that they would learn not to cut corners on a premium laptop anymore.
-
^If that's the case, I'll really have to consider it. I've got 18 days left to decide.
-
When even a small pressure is applied to the memory stick cover next to the battery, it pushes the memory module slightly and this causes the memory connection to cut off for a moment which in turn causes the problem. Whenever I move my hand on that area, I was getting these problems without fail, when I remove the memory module and tried it, no problems what so ever.
Using the notebook on a hard surface minimizes the problem, but this is a serious design flaw. If the cover is sturdy enough, it should not be a problem. But I think for some users, this cover is slightly flexible therefore causing this problem. -
I'm definitely interested in possibly pursuing the HP ENVY 14 as my next laptop machine. (I'm also looking at the new Sony Z11) however, the lack of Blue-ray is a bummer as I wanted it both for personal and business purposes.
That said, does anyone think it might be possible for the slot-load Blu-ray of the ENVY 17 to be installed manually into the drive space of the ENVY 14 without much issue?
I know we wont know officially for a month or so, but in theory could it work? If so, it might be worth trying to get the part separately through HP. -

Thanks for the info. Oh well... that might rule that one out. Maybe I'll see how big of a Monster the 17 is... How much is that one supposed to weigh again?
-
Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!

He says in the video that the Envy 17 weighs 7.5 pounds.
-

The service manual lists the Envy 17 weight at 3.71 kg / 8.18 lbs
-
i dont think that i am gonna post the dimensions, weight, or price of any of the laptops. This is because these are variable with the options you get for each.
sorry! -
-
Weight is not the only factor in determining how portable a laptop is. For a lot of people, a 14" form actor is absolutely pushing it. We're the one's that have been using 13.3" notebooks or even smaller. The Envy 15 for what it's worth is just about the WIDEST 15" laptop on the market. At 14.9", it's damn near as wide as some 16" notebooks. The form factor of the 15 is absolutely out of the question for a lot of us. For the people where this is a non-issue, they probably already own the Envy 15.
Honestly, I'd easily take a smaller package that weights slightly more. No contest for me.
Also, consider another factor. The battery life of an Envy 15 to reach 7 hours is with the slice. With the slice, it's size becomes a monstrosity. -
Best post ever. Seriously. Maybe it's because I started using notebooks when they were black and white but a little bit of perspective can go a long way.
The best part about people comparing their "$999" Envy 15 is that they're completely ignoring the $450 off coupon they use. Genius at work. It's almost head scratching sometimes... -
I think the CIA have something like this. Saw it on Alias.
But the HP EVERYTHING needs more usb 3.0 ports!!! >:-[ -
I loved the 2lbhs at the end...lol.
For $999, kind of sure the 5650 won't be standard, I'd be shocked to be honest. The accountants are going to get their hands on it over the next 2 months and start changing things up.
The display, GPU, and maybe even the memory are going to be reduced. Display I'm pretty certain about, that sort of display is never standard.
Probably hit $1400 or so for a basically loaded system, sans i7/ssd.
On any account, it's a sick system at a good price, just hope HP doesn't cut too much out at that standard price.... -

Watched another video, and the rep mentioned quad core. How is this going to keep cool? Either way I'm getting dual core so it shouldn't be an issue for me.
Some other tidbits that are awesome:
The power supply for the 14 is small and compact, no more bricks.
I don't think HP was kidding when they said brightest screen. In every video that thing really stands out, looks brighter than any MBP screen.
I like how the components are easy to access, *cough* I'm looking at you Apple, who doesn't even let users replace their batteries.
Overall, I'm quite impressed by this effort by HP. The Envy 14 is going to sell like crazy and the Envy 17 will definitely be able to pull on its own. I took a look at the new pavilion models, and I love the design and the colors. I want those colors on the Envies.
@moviemarketing
Yes, it is smell-o-vision. A BIOS update will be released that will create support for taste-o-vision. -
For the most part, various 300-450 coupons have worked on the Envy's all this year as has Bing Cashback.
It's all speculation of course whether or not they decide to not allow it to be used with the Envy 14. -
-
Here is one that shows off the power brick
YouTube - HP's NEW Envy 14 laptop -- A Quick Look
I think this shows how easy it is to change the components.
YouTube - New HP Envy Notebooks
I'm pretty sure some of you have seen these videos already though.
I think I have concluded I will definitely be purchasing one of these if there are no problems with the Arrandale variants. -
I want one, NOW. Put one on my closest Bbuy so I can go buy one.
-
-
I've definately found my new laptop
-
I didn't know the new HP Mini 210 used a specialized animation UI, that's pretty sweet. Hope they have more than just the butterfly theme though. -
So, any idea of its release? I would love to get a 14, but I need it by the second week of June.
If the 14 wins on battery life, it will be a HUGE hit. -
-
-
But as to the sentiment... I'm seriously considering selling my MBP for that 14 incher. If the battery life turns out, it's mine. ALL MINE! (cue demonic laughter) -
Sorry if it's been answered, but any information on Canadian prices?
Thanks in advance! -
Looks like a really nice Macbook like Windows Based PC, but with better hardware.
If they still make them in 4 years, I know my next book :3 -

Straight off the press release via Engadget:
- "The HP ENVY 14 is expected to be available in the United States on June 27 with a starting price of $999. The HP ENVY 17 is expected to be available in the United States on May 26 with a starting price of $1,399.99." -
For example, my Envy 15 has an i5 (not i7), 4GB of 1066mhz RAM (not 16GB of 1333mhz), no dual drives/SSD (just single HDD), no USB 3.0 (stuck with 2.0), no slice, no external cd or blu-ray drive, etc.
I can spec an Envy 14 VERY close to what I have now on my Envy 15 and I'll be adding:
- edge to edge
- backlit keyboard
- switchable graphics
- slot-loading optical drive
- rounded front palmrest edge
- dual-monitor output
- wwan
- better portability
- much better battery life
My only sacrifices would be screen size + resolution (in favor of a radiance display), shortcut row of keys (no big deal), and graphics card which might very well be configurable to the 5830 anyway. -
