Damn, that video I found earlier on youtube's pressuring me to get the ENVYOnly thing holding me back is the pricetag. It's surely going to be above $1100, with un-guaranteed discounts/coupons/BCB.
Question: How come on HP.com, when going through the CTO process, there's an option for Intel wireless+Bluetooth upgrade? I always thought bluetooth was already included in most, if not all notebooks? My old HP Dv2610us had bluetooth by default...
-
One week.
Here's to hoping HP truly is rechecking their QC department. -
Quite a few people don't use Bluetooth, and saving a few dollars by not getting a feature you don't want is worth it. I personally won't get it with Bluetooth unless it's <$5, I have too many tiny $2 micro-dongles lying around.
-
I will get a slice battery as soon as it is available. I already ordered a Tucano USA sleeve.
-
Yea me too, also I always forget to turn off internal bluetooth l on my current laptop and it s messing with my battery every time.
And to be frank I never use bluetooth anymore since every smartphone I own now can use wifi to synchronise thrice as fast.
I'd like to say nice find to those who caught the vent comments in the video. I guess now we can only hope that hp designed the screen lid edges so that the air flow gets diverted toward the bottom rather than going straight up on the screen's face (causing our so feared yellowish degradation ? but even then hp may have used materials for the screen that are heat resistant).
For this matter, anyone knows if the screen plate is glass like on the mbp or regular plastic like other notebooks ? -
7 days~ =D
-
IIRC, one of the videos mentions that the screen plate is made of glass unlike the older Envys which had plastic plates.
-
My understanding was they use the same screen technology as in the Envy 13, which also means an Edge to Edge glass layer on top.
Apart from being quite glossy I heard only good about the Envy 13 screen..
By the way, has anyone tried an anti glare screen protector like this:
Envy 13 Anti-Glare Screen Protector / HP Envy 13 Screen Protector / Envy 13 Screen Cover / HP Envy 13 Screen Cover / Envy 13 Screen Film - ClearTouch Anti-Glare ?
Would be interesting to know opinions.. -
The best are antiglares totally sillicon based, no glue, athmospheric pressure keeps the filter sticked to the screen. You can also remove wash and reapply them endlessly...
Kai Anti-Glare Screen Protector for 15.6" HP Envy 15 - eBay (item 260470954002 end time Jun-28-10 09:17:20 PDT)
The filter of the envy15 should fit the screen alright, and even cover a good part of the black bezel around the screen. -
So who is buying this on the day it goes live?
I am all about buying it the day it comes out but I also want to get a good deal. Where do you guys check to see what coupons/cashback will be available, or just plainly to find the best deals! -
Read this thread on the day of release and have your credit card in hand. You will see all of the best deals listed here. By in large, these are the most knowledgable buyers out there.
Acer is breathing down HP's neck and anounced last week that it will overtake HP in sales by the end of the year. Expect a serious Bing Cash Back or coupon on release day. HP needs to sell some units. -
Has anyone seen ANY news stories about the 17 and the issues it's having? I spoke with a journalist who specializes in Notebooks and she acted like she didn't even know they were shipping, much less having any issues.
also, I know I keep harping on this, but now that some people have OFFICIALLY ordered their 14s, can we make an Owners thread and move over there -
I would appreciate this although I gotta admit that I learned loads about different brands during following this thread.
-
I just noticed Justos made a new thread to aggregate all the info we have.
-
Yeah, agreed. Some of the people in this thread would qualify for PhDs in "laptop buying" (if such a field existed).
I'm almost certainly buying day of release. I'm in grad school, so I get the HP education store discount which is 10-11% (has Bing ever had anything better than this amount?). If I'm unhappy, I will just return it and get my money back
-
Bing has been up to 25%. It was at that level the day the 17 was released.
-
While we're speculating... when I first bought my Gen1 Envy15, the biggest issue that caused me to send it back was the BIOS not being ACPI compliant - thermal monitoring was up to the HP Crapware installed in the default Windows installation so for someone like me who installs Linux as a primary OS, this was difficult. Does anyone know if the Envy 17 has fixed this sort of thing and that the thermal management runs independent when someone has installed Linux or a clean version of Windows?
-
Hey guys, I'm not sure if this has been mentioned anywhere in the thread, but do we know yet if the Envy 14 will have an expresscard slot? I'm looking into buying a docking station that links up with the expresscard slot...
-
Since I will solely run Linux, this is a vital information for me! Can someone please find this out? Should we ask this question in the Envy 17 owner thread?
-
I'm pretty sure it doesn't have one. You can't see one on any pic and it hasn't been listed on any spec sheet.
One of the few downsides (on paper at least) with this laptop. -
I asked Tuesday in the 17 owners thread if anyone had installed Linux, and I don't think I got a single response.
-
I asked the question over at the Envy 17 owner lounge: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...hp-envy-17-owners-lounge-191.html#post6375266
The posting directly above mine has some screenshots of the device manager which shows a ACPI subdirectory. Is this a good sign??? -
Well in any event HP's 21 day return policy is pretty much akin to a pressure-free test drive of this new laptop...
-
I had thought that the other Envies came with bluetooth, stock?
-
I need to check out if this policy exists in Germany, too. There is a 14-day-return policy by law, but it only covers unopened goods.
-
If no I'll try to cpu-z for temps or whatever to see if it is ACPI on mine, once it arrives.
-
I think the 21 day return policy is for US CTO orders only.
Bronsky
-
CTO = Customized to order?
-
Btw. has anybody in here already called HP Canada to ask when the Envy can be expected north of the border? I really hope we won't have to wait too long...and I hope the maple leaf premium won't be as high as it is for the Envy 13 & 15..
-
Thats not correct as far as I know.
It depends on the specific goods.
Perishable goods like groceries can of course only returned unopened.
If you buy electronics you can test them at home like you could do at a store and still return them within 14 days. This includes the opening of packaging.
But you have to pay something if you damaged the goods.
See the terms of german HP store: HP Store für Privatkunden info - HP Store Bedingungen -
Damn. Can't wait. I might actually buy this on release day, if there's coupons/BCB@25% on Day 1. Anyone know what CPU options there'll be for us Yanks?
-
Ok, so HP offers a 14 day "trial periode" in Germany where I only have to pay for damages I have during this time (which can be avoided if I handle the machine with care). Fine!
-
Someone at HP probably does /:
-
Everyone should move over to the new thread so we can keep it simple for the next week till we move to the owners thread =)
I don't know why this thread bugs me so much. I guess my OCD can't stand hearing the same questions asked over and over... -
How long to coupons/BCB increases usually last?
-
It just means you'll have people asking the same stupid questions again in the new thread. Even if all the relevant info. is on page 1, people don't always pay attention.
-
BCB 25% usually last a day or two and is usually 10% the rest of the time.
Coupons are different every time. Some expire once a certain amount of people use them, some have an exp. date. -
True, but the chance of people just skipping to the last page and asking a question is greatly increased when the size of the thread is 4 figures long...
-
There won't be another bing 25%.
-
D:
How do you know? -
Same way I know the world is ending in 2012.
-
Bing is expiring July 31st. Whether or not one more bing 25% Hp comes up before then is up in the air.
-
Close - Configure to Order = CTO.
-
Woah, did you see the new Envy Topic? It has been hijacked by all the chitchat that should be here..
Some new interesting (although confusing) information about the Amazon offer for the Envy 14... Check it out.. -
Two models showed up in Sweden:
1085eo:
Intel Core i7 720QM 1,6GHz
4GB DDR3
320GB
14,5" HD (1366x768)
ATI Radeon HD 5650
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
1090eo:
Intel Core i5-450M 2,4GHz
6GB DDR3
500GB
14,5" HD (1366x768)
ATI Radeon HD 5650
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
The fact that none of em got the the Radiance display is a large turnoff for me. I'm wondering if i should go for the 3820TG instead which is much more value for the money based on those specs. The price is not really set yet, because only some few, odd retailers announced this. The price is going down for sure. The 1085eo was 1 561$ and the 1090eo was 2 521$
The 3820TG is 1 365$ with similar specs as the 1090eo. (4GB of ram and 640GB hdd) -
The envy 14 is up for preorder on amazon.com.
The battery life is only listed as 3.75 hours with a price tag of $1,199.99
Kind of different from what we were expecting?
Amazon.com: HP ENVY 14-1010NR 14.5-Inch Laptop: Electronics -
wow that is expensive considering the screen isn't even updated yet.
-
I just hope the pricing of the Amazon pre-order isnt correct... I just checked it today too and I was expecting more for that price. At least the 1600x900 resolution screen.
I guess we will just have to continue to wait till the 27th to see. -
it looks like its upgraded to 6gb ram instead of the 4gb that will probably come standard. But that's not a 200 dollar upgrade
-
It seems to be $100 for RAM Upgrade 4 (2x2) -> 6 (2+4) (same as with Envy17)
And probably $50 for CPU and $50 for HDD.
So the $999 base model could be like the Amazon model with less RAM, smaller HDD, i5-430M and of course the same 1366x768 screen.
