we can only hope that going to 7 professional, upping the screen, getting a slice maybe, something 'bout bluetooth, etc and so forth doesn't cost $500

In regards to the Amazon listing... based on a similar search of the Envy 17, there will probably be different models released as it gets to launch. I would expect to see more Envy 14 pre-order models pop up.
-
I'm guessing that model we see on Amazon is a slightly upgraded base model. Probably RAM, hard drive, and maybe OS upgraded? Maybe Bluetooth, assuming it doesn't come with it?
I think we're all pretty sure the base model will remain at $999. I'll skip with the upgrades Amazon has and just stick with an upgraded screen and battery slice.
Edit: Yes, it appears the Envy 14 has 3 DIMM slots according to Amazon, so one can assume 3GB will be in the base model. -
What the hell.
-
thats expected tbh. maybe 3.5 the ati on. idk.
-
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
Considering all of the pre-release numbers, specs, and claims, I'm going to guess that Amazon's tests were idling with the GPU turned on, as Justos suggests. -
There are 3 conflicting, or different battery specs on the Amazon Envy 14 page. Look at the Specifications (on the top of the page), the Product Description (on the bottom of the page), and the Envy 14 Datasheet ( PDF) on the very bottom.
- Specifications: Battery LifeUp to 3.75 hours
- Product Description: Count on up to 4.25 hours of power with the standard battery, plus use the optional HP ENVY Slim Fit Extended-Life battery (sold separately) to keep working and playing for more hours.
- From Datasheet: Get up to 8 hours and 15 minutes of computing time with an HP ENVY SlimFit Extended-Life battery. (Edit)
Edit: Note that all three of these Amazon HP Envy 14 battery life references are NOT 6 - 7 hours like HP's Envy team stated in both YouTube videos and the HP Envy site.
-
either way its pretty good still!.. sorta =p
-
I agree, I think these tests were likely performed with the dGPU on...
-
That's my problem -- even if it is expected.
-
Sorry, but my problem with this is that Amazon doesn't say anything about how they derive these numbers. For the most part, I completely disregard the numbers websites give out. It's a much better benchmark to compare to a machine with a similar battery and configuration.
For all we know, Amazon could derive these numbers by using one of those programs that stresses every component to get the maximum power draw on the system, or they could sit the machine idle with the screen off. (I'm obviously not saying they actually do either of these, I'm just giving an example.)
I believe from what we've estimated, we should at least be able to get something like 4-6 hours web browsing via wifi. The battery is an 8-cell, is it not? -
What did HP's Envy team want consumers to expect, considering they told us on youTube that the Envy 14 would get 7 hours battery life, & 14 hours of battery life with the Slice Battery.
Now Amazon is selling HP's Envy 14, and claims 3 different battery life specifications on the same page, conflicting what HP's Envy team clearly stated on both Youtube and the Envy 14 product page! So Amazon conflicts HP, but of course HP has already conflicted its own info regarding battery life.
Do we trust what HP said then, or now, or what Amazon states.
Mickey Mouse said the HP Envy 14 will get 40 hrs battery life on 1 charge!
-
as stated before. theres no telling to how they got those numbers.
-
4 hours with the GPU on would be great. I really hope that the Amazon numbers come from a machine that had the GPU turned on.
-
if its on at default then its a good chance that it was on.
-
I've found a Envy 14-1050ca for preorder... once I get specs on it, I'll post the link.
there we go... I've found it on another site: http://www.swiftgamers.com/product-p/wq785uaabc.htm -
Hold on, hold on. Doesn't the dv6t have similar aspects to the Envy 14? Don't the new HP laptops have the MUSE design now? Such as the keyboard tray (by the way, whoever told me the dv6t has a backlit keyboard, it doesn't) and the trackpad?
I've fiddled around with the dv6t at Best Buy today and the keyboard flex wasn't as bad. It is a bit, but not terrible, not to the point where you would want to return it. Although, it should be unheard of on HP's top of the line "premium" laptops.
And the trackpad, not a big fan of it. If you look at a picture of the Envy 14 and the dv6t's trackpad, they look alike, not identical, but similar. The disable feature does not work, where you have to double click the dot on the top left corner on the trackpad. Heck, you can't even click it. I don't know how to describe this so: if you cut the trackpad in half horizontally, you would only be able to click on the bottom half.
I may be wrong, but eh. -
From your link, here are the cost and specs:

I think Amazon has the Envy 14 and Envy 17 battery life numbers mixed. On the Envy 14 page it states 3.75 hours of battery, but on the Envy 17 Amazon page it says 5.75 hours of battery.

Yeah, Amazon is all kinds of fukked-up I think. I wouldn't put too much weight on the stats that appear on a pre-order page on Amazon.
-
lol, yea. Amazon screws up a lot on their descriptions. A while back I bought a cell phone that was advertised to have a 3.5mm jack, but it didn't have one. I know that it was my fault for not researching it better (this was back in like 97 when phones were "free"), but they didn't even change the website after I pointed it out and asked them to acknowledge the mistake and do so.
-
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
Yeah, I've seen computers advertised there and on Best Buy with completely different specs between the description and the specs sheet. Sometimes huge differences, like i5 versus Atom, 5650 versus Intel HD, or 500 GB 7200 HDD versus 320 GB 5400 HDD.
-
What they hey? THE BEST BUY ONE DOES NOT INCLUDE A BACK LIT. Thanks for summing it up. I should have went to customize it before acting like a tard.
WHATT?????????????????
"Display
14.5" diagonal High-Definition HP BrightView Infinity LED Display (1366 x 768)"
... I got sooo happy til I saw that. This means that we have to upgrade to 1600x900 huh.
And what? i5-450m? Is that going to be another option in the processor upgrade?
Yes, they better be wrong about the resolution. I don't want 1366x768 as base.. thought they HAVE been charging for screen upgrades. But the Envy 17 comes preloaded with the 1600x900.. is it because its a little absurd to put 1366x768 into a 17 inch screen? ALTHOUGH, there is a upgrade to 1080p.. Oh no. -
I bet it will come with 1366x768 on the base model, which is fine. That is the most common laptop resolution these days. I'm cool with paying $50 more for the 1600x900 sexiness =]
-
Yep, what you see there is pretty much standard fare. 430m CPU and 1366x768 screen are definitely base model configs.
-
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
Hmm, so I'm guessing it's gonna come to ~$1300 for i5-520, Radiance screen, and the slice, plus another $25 for the upgrade to 500GB @ 7200RPM, and then the big ticket 3 year warranty for a total of about $1600. Here's hoping for 25% BCB!
-
Oh no, its going to be a $100 upgrade.
-
I expected to pay over $1500 easy for my tricked out Envy 14, so long as there's 25% BCB! I don't mind certain elements being "upgrades" if the base price is only 999. I'm definitely selecting all the "hard" upgrades from launch, such as the best 1600x900 glass e2e display, Intel i7 820Quad, best graphics card etc... It will likely all come in cheaper than my original Envy 15! I'll upgrade the RAM and HDD on my own, but be sure to purchase the Slice battery up front - HP seems to give big discount buying it when you buy the laptop as opposed to later. I'd like to get a cheaper Amazon prefab edition, but sadly it probably won't come with the processor or other 'hard' upgrade options I want.
-
I'm guessing my machine will be...
--$999 base--
+$100 for i5-520
+$75 for 1600x900 screen
= $1,175 - %10 (student discount, or more with BCB) = $1,058
I may choose to upgrade to a larger HD if its really only $25.
What do you guys think, is this a good guess? -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
well that sucks.
anyone else just skimping out on the warranty? or would that not be wise with an HP.
wasn't a problem with my Asus. -
It's so close to release that they might pull me back from the Macbook Pro. The Envy 14 is just so much cheaper.
-
+$100.
Was Apple brainwashing you, too? -
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
I'm definitely guessing that that 1600x900 will be a $100 upgrade - worth it and more if the screen's as good as they've been saying.
HDD's probably gonna be more than $25 - I was mixed up - it's $50 on the Envy 15, not $25 like I thought. However, the base on the 15 is 320 GB @ 7200 RPM - I can live with that - more concerned about platter speed than size anyway. -
OMG, blow me. 1366x768? If the HP deal doesn't offer better value for the same price before taxes, I'm going to be extremely disappointed!
-
Thats a clue that telling us that 1366x768 will be base.
-
yea as long as its 7200 I'm happy.
So is the hundred dollar upgrade for the 1600x900 screen gonna be the top of line, radiance, 59% brighter, and all that jazz? or is there gonna be two 1600x900 options, one with and one without radiance (with the radiance one being even more)? -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
I hope it's just two screens.
"run of the mill 1366x768" and "that 1600x900 everyone wants thus making it take 1 month to get you the notebook since we didn't order enough. well crap" -
I'm ignoring that amazon page, they got at least a few facts wrong, and it doesn't look like a config many people here would buy.
-
That's exactly the kind of upgrades I'd get on mine too and hoping it would cost that much for those upgrades (probably +$100 for the 1600x900 screen upgrade). I'm really hoping for the 25% BCB but i'll be really tempted to place an order the day it comes out.
-
Well, ok, that's much better than the Amazon.com price. I'll take a base $999 price with i5-430m and 4gb RAM and even a measly 250gb HD
If it's $999 for the base with the 1366x768, I'll be fine with it as long as there are coupons or BCB available. The Radiance screen upgrade I'm guessing will be a $150 upgrade. If it is, I'm willing to pay for it and toss in a 3-year warranty. If I get desperate to shave off money, I'll just downgrade my warranty from to $349 (3-year limited+accidental) to $289 (3-year limited) and still end up with 4 years total with AMEX. Just have to baby my notebook for 4 years!
EDIT: If not 25% BCB, at LEAST a $250 off coupon so I can subtract California's deathly taxes! -
Similar to what I would do. Man, if the radiance screen is another option, that would blow. And man, the warranty is pretty pricy. If I'm satisfied with the laptop, I'd purchase a Momentus XT and just throw it in there. I live in CA also and I despise the tax here also.
-
How does BCB work anyways? The website is a huge cluster-f***
If i put HP into the search bar, i just a get a bunch of random HP products, listed at a bunch of random stores online.
How do I get to the discounts through HP? -

thanks htwingnut!

Yeah, other than the "it just works" comments, they pretty much had a refurb sale locked down. I seriously want to punch anyone who says that in the face. Hard.
-
NP. Make sure to check the Notebook and Tech Bargains forum here though on a regular basis. Sometimes you need to do certain keyword searches at Bing.com to get a larger discount. I'm sure you'll hear about it here considering everyone else here will most likely want it too.
Notebook and Tech Bargains -
Haha it's sounds so stupid it's impossible. But theyll find a way to screw it up
-
The top third or so does not depress, that is by design, as to not being able to disable the pad, every single notebook with that pad I have tried, the dv6/dv7/dm4, worked just fine by double tapping the top left point. Not sure what was wrong on your end.
-
Yes I have tried all those laptops. They were all side by side too. Double tapping the top left point did not work in Best Buy. Someone probably messed with it.
