Alas. I've found answers to my questions about which method to save the most when purchasing HP. It may seem that the $-off coupons will be better than BCB for California customers like myself. Hopefully there will be some this weekend. That, and BCB would be nice also.
i5-540M+Radiance for me. Hopefully it'll hover around the 1g or lower mark. -
Nice value add.

HP ENVY 14 14.5-inch Core i5/i7 Laptop Coming Soon - LogicBUY
Don't know how much it will be, but Logicbuy usually has some pretty good coupons. -
Sony Vaio Z has a new, optional 1920 x 1080 display thats a free upgrade until July 3rd. i7's, Switchable graphics, DVD Burner, Quad SSD's anyone?
Edit: Sony Vaio Z used to have a Quad SSD option, where did it go? -
and at only twice the price!
-
Indeed, I may just have to pay for quality if the Envy 14 continues with HP's notorious roll out operations.
-
I don't think I can bring myself to pay that much for a 13" laptop, no matter how good the specs are...
also, 1080p on a 13" display? Does it come with a free magnifying glass? -
I was playing with the envy 13 at fry's today these new clickpads seems kind of hard to use. The way I like to use touchpads is to have my index finger on the touchpad and my thumb on the button, so I do something similar with the clickpads where I have my index finger on the upper part and my thumb resting on the lower part.
On the mbp, when I have my finger and thumb on the clickpad, it knows to ignore any movement from my thumb since it knows my thumb is only there to click, and that im using my index finger to actually move the cursor.
However on the envy 13, both my index finger and thumb move the cursor, which becomes pretty frustrating since any slight movements from my thumb moves the cursor... anyone else share my opinion? -
I havent been able to find an envy in person ANYWHERE, so I havent been able to mess with the the trackpad =[
But to all of you who have: If I just use my index finger to move the curser, and then move my index finger down to click, will the old track pad work well for me?
I ask because all of the complaints I have heard have been from people using two fingers, which I dont do at all. So if the e13/15's trackpad works for me fine, the new and improved e14's should be fine, and maybe even better, right? -
Yeah, it should work much better for you. But I also prefer to just tap to click, which makes having the increased real estate on the trackpad worth while. Buttons are for sissies.

Ok I am pretty much in love with this notebook. I previously was really interested in the Asus N82JQ but its been WAYYYYY too long and there still isnt a release date. So I am determined to buy the Envy 14 the day it comes out.
One question i have is how hard is it going to be to replace the stock HDD with a Momentus XT?? I have never replaced a laptop HDD so I dont know what I would be getting myself into. -
With this notebook, it will actually be extremely easy. There's a simple switch on the back that you flip and then a cover slides off, revealing the battery and hard drive. It looks like you might need to use a screwdriver to take off a tray the hard drive sits in and pop your hard drive in.
The harder part will be installing your operating system, assuming you've never done it before. -
Under a week for the Envy 14 release. I would expect a decent discount from HP upon release of this promising notebook. Acer outsold HP in the first quarter of 2010 and looks to ease past it as the world's sales leader. Acer vows to become number one notebook vendor in 2010 - Notebooks - Fudzilla I would think that HP will heavily promote their upcoming lines to keep market share ahead of Acer for the remaining 2 quarters.
Here's hoping that they release the CTO version of the new HP TM2T at the same time as the Envy.

Woot! 25% discount from bing right now.. too bad envy 14 hasnt come out yet.
-
That's odd. It only shows as 10% for me from HP Direct.
-

Bing's just taunting us now.
it'll go back to 10% in a week.
Also, I don't think I'll have issues with the track pad...well unless my left thumb triggers it while I'm typing like it used to do to my asus (til I changed the setting some).
I use my right index finger to control the touchpad and just double tap on it to select stuff. Use the little scroll bar thing on the far right to scroll down pages, etc.
Only time I use the buttons is if I have to right click.
edit: also yeah it's only showing 10% for me. -
Not sure if anyone else posted this but check this out...
Amazon.com: HP ENVY 14-1010NR 14.5-Inch Laptop: Computer & Accessories
1199 for just an upgrade to 6gb ram and 500gb hdd sounds wrong, but I'm happy to see its up on their site. Will probably be adjusted in due time. -
It is at 25%, hopefully it stays that way
-
It bloody well should. HP has to know that Bing Cashback is ending in a month, and they have a nearly 3000 post thread on a forum waiting for their product specifically asking for it, so it would be in their best interest to ask Microsoft to keep 25% cashback for the Envy's launch (its also a way they'll get more people to buy at the "full" price and not have to give an actual discount, as MS will be handing the cashback instead of them)..
-
I like everything about this Envy 14 except for the weight. Really a shame it isn't a bit lighter.
-
Let's put it this way- if there is a 25% BCB the day the Envy 14 launches, I think I'll have to bite on it. You can't beat it with a 25% discount. If it remains at 10%, I might wait and see some reviews, and just use a coupon or my academic discount.
-
Well, if history is any indicator, the 25% BCB comes back every 2-4 weeks. It should be back before July 31. Give everyone a chance to take a deep breath and read some reviews.

Can someone please recommend which anti-virus software to buy. I heard of Norton, McAffe, and AVG. Are they all the same or some better? I want to get an idea of which to buy before I purchase my Envy. thanks
-
I recommend either of these free offerings:
- Microsoft Security Essentials
- Avast! Free Edition
Those are two I've used and can vouch that they are sufficient for any anti-virus needs, and best of all free. -
Paying for an antivirus is a waste of your money. htwingnut suggested Avast!, which is my favorite.
The majority of these companies provide free editions so that you'll pay for their enterprise edition if you happen to be a business owner. Mc Afee and Norton like to charge people who don't know they can get good protection for free on their home computers. -
Haha, quite the strange place to post such a question.
I am not trying to be mean, but why not do some research on your own instead of asking other people to do it for you?
To answer your question: Norton and McAfee are about the same, I personally prefer norton over mcAfee. AVG is good, but sometimes a resource hog. I love Avira, it has a small footprint and a clean interface. Avast is also good.
The envy 14 is quite a large investment, so do some research on your own. Don't trust some random person on an online forum for your data protection needs. -
^ i trust the advice of a "random person" on NBR more than i trust myself especially when it comes to computers
-
Avast is great.
-
Because advertisement can be misleading. I rather take advice from people who have had personal experience with these software programs than to read some non-sense with false claims. I'll look into Avast because everyone seems to think highly of it.
-
What Rabbit says does make sense. I recommend Avast! because I don't do my taxes or any such stuff on my computer. I use it as a warning system for viruses which I almost never have a problem with. But if you house some pretty sensitive information on your computer, you might want to look into something worth paying for. He says don't trust a random person because we can't gauge how your needs will reflect what you need to purchase.

what this dude said.
though I've had norton fail to block those latest wonderful malware virus things. I mean it did block it sorta. But by block norton 360 decided to just kill all internet ('cause the virus decided to kill norton...but only half killed it) -
Damn it. I was just about to order a gift card as someone suggested, but it has dropped to 10%.
-
Wish I would have heard about the ordering a gift card thing before it dropped back. Only issue with ordering a gift card would be the 200 dollars left on it once I realized that the end configuration wasn't as expensive as I had originally thought.
-
Yeah, I was going to order a $1200 card, b/c that's what I expect mine will cost. If anything, it would go over that...I can't believe I missed it by less than an hour...
-
I suggest nod32 straight powerhouse as far as killing viruses and it uses very little of your resources so u should be able to surf the net, music etc while its scanning etc.
-
The 25% is still there for me.. just type in "hp direct" in bing.
I am considering the gift card option but i don't want to overpay. hmm. -
Order a $1000 card then. It must be over that, with tax.
-
Does bing even work with gift cards? And the shipping says 5-7 days. Doesn't sound like I'm guaranteed to receive it by friday to use it on sunday.
-
Could you post a link to it, please?
This is my 10% link.. HP Direct | Bing cashback -
If we buy a giftcard, could we use that and any coupons available?
-
Bulldog87, great idea. I believe it would work.
-
Thanks, but that just gives me your search results. The link I posted isn't what I wanted it to show, but does yours have the popup coupon thing?
What time zone are you? I'm EST. -
ya the whole bing cashback and gift card sounds kinda iffy. If i know for sure both coupons and bing cashback work, i'd definitely get a gift card right now.
-
I mean the giftcard is just like money, unless HP knew somehow that it was already linked to a 25% discount on bing. If we could use both, it would be a steal. Get a great laptop for $800 haha
-
If I could get the 25% right now, I'd definitely get it.
I'm sure you could call hp or talk online with a rep..that's a question they SHOULD be able to answer. -
i'm in central time
HP Home & Home Office Store | Bing cashback
Ya..unless you go there straight from bing, it doesn't work. -
Refresh your page. I'm curious why you'd have it show 25%, but for the rest of us it's only 10%.
-
I beg to differ. Have you tried refreshing your page?
