To my knowledge, the Beats 15 is matte except for the lid.

Other notebooks with 2 SODIMM slots will require 2 x 4GB DDR3 sticks at a considerable cost - $500-600? (unless they come with one 4GB stick but that seems extremely rare).
The Envy 15 4GB config that seems to be the base config has one 4 GB stick and 3 free SODIMM slots. Adding 2x2 GB won't cost much.
Price comparisons should take this into consideration - a $450-550 savings if you want to bump the spec to 8 GB. Even more in some markets like northern Europe.
And if you want to go beyond 8GB later then there's almost no alternative (Dell M6400, maybe some gaming rigs?) -
that is some really deceptive lighting. well just a few more days and all will be revealed
-
They just need to release this thing already so we can get some benchmarks in
-
Just 3 more days to go. Btw sleey0 why did you end up not going with the m15x? I'm personally still considering it in addition to the envy 15.
-
Sleey was the first to get his hands on one and decided to opt for something else so he returned it
-
-
It is all in the m15x thread and I am sure Sleey can explain farther but it was basically that nothing was wrong with it just not up to his high standards since he was spoiled with the m17x
-
Got it thanks. Anyway back to topic, do you guys think there will be any applicable education discounts for the envy 15? I don't really know how HP's discounts really work or their warranty for that matter. Do they do the whole send a technician out to your home thing like dell? Just wondering since this is a premium product, want to make sure that concierge service they're advertising isn't just in name only.
-
I am more interested in a state government discount. Dell offers one, but I cant find if HP does or not. -
Hey all, first post. Been reading a lot of this thread, and i'm glad to see some real through discussion on the i7 laptops and the Envy 15.
A few notes: From the reviews i've been reading the Power Slice looks like it'll be standard with all purchases. The optical drive will be a purchasable accessory (this is where HP starts to show its cleverness).
Quick question: Has anyone heard anything about a Canadian release date? I'm up here in Ontario and all I hear about is the Oct. 18th release date for USA (on the HP website). Is there no planned Canadian release?! I want an envy! -
I think we all want one...lol
Should be ready to ship, or purchase after 22nd Oct -
im pretty sure there will be an included optical. it will be a cheap one though they will charge extra for blue ray same as all other laptops.
doesnt canada usually get everything the same time as the US? most places i have seen ship to canada at little to no extra charge.
MY HDX DRAGON IS SOLD!!! working off my netbook until i get my envy 15 -
You will buy this???
I envy you! hahahahahahah (had to do it)
I am buying a Dell SXPS1645 with i7...perhaps we could compare when we have them?
What specs are you getting? -
It's getting close as I think HP is revamping the Voodoo/Gaming section (down right now here.) No more Envy 133 listed, either.
I'd say this thing will be available to order within the next few days hopefully -
720qm
GPU upgrade if available
ssd + 500GB hdd
full 1080p (i wish matte)
color matte black if available(if not i will just recreate the lighting conditions of that picture)
base ram configuration(home upgrade)
no slice if not included.
unfortunately shipping to iraq takes 2 weeks -
I think I might end up going for the beats edition if I can get a good enough discount and it has some other enticing add-ons besides just the software and headphones they're throwing in.

Does anyone have a closeup of the screen in office / daylight? (Or could they shoot one when they get it?)
Or perhaps someone can chime in as to if it's as bad as the SXPS16 or the Macbooks for unusability anywhere but a cave.
I'm getting ready to toss an XPS M1330 out of the window and my Dell account manager is pretty adamant about conditionally tying it's replacement to a purchase I was planning to make. I was kvetching to my HP account manager and he offered to throw in the Macbook - er, I mean Envywith an equivalent purchase. The 15 has some nice specs so am tempted.

well the picture on this page might answer your question. it is off. but still -
Hmm imo the "b" is not hideous but since it is not a a brand commonly known, it would get annoying having to explain what it meant everytime I went to class lol
-
at this point I'll take a cheaper plastic version of the envy as long as its black.
-
Furthermore, according to the brochure
http://h20424.www2.hp.com/campaign/consumer_notebooks/ap/en/resources/E N V Y without i7.pdf
The following items are listed as optional extras:
20W 3-wire AC Adapter
9-Cell Lithium-Ion Polymer (93Whr)
Additional 9 cell Battery
Additional 6 cell Battery
HP Notebook Protective Sleeve
HDMI to VGA adapter
While the optical drive is listed under
Optical Drive - (External Option)
SuperMulti 8X DVD±R/RW with Double Layer Support
Blu-Ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD±R/RW Double Layer
The Blu-Ray drive comes with this caveat,
"HD-DVD movies cannot be played on this PC"
Anyone knows what that really means? Isnt that the whole point of Blu-Ray in the first place?
Anyhow, hopefully we get both the slice and the optical free. More realistically we get a choice of one optical drive.
I rather have a free slice than an optical, the ability to have good battery life when i need it and low weight when i dont would be brilliant.
I bet i could jury rig a standard desktop one to work with one of those external HDD enclosures - the connectors are the same -
^^ there used to be two forms of high def video hd-dvd and blu-ray so basicly this only supports blu-ray not hd-dvd format
also i believe that the supermulti drive comes with, and we have the option to upgrade that the the blu ray drive -
-
You can get the Adamo with a free DVD drive now
-
Only if you go with a package deal or with a special offer still shows $120 for the dvd drive for me :/
-
-
-
I guess that's out then. Thanks. -
I don't care for the mirror like finish of these laptops displays nowadays, either.
Nothing we can do about it really.
I will say that the Envy 13 has such a high nit display that it should cut right through the glare. The 15 won't have that luxury though. -
I am not a display expert so maybe this is a dumb question but why did they not having a higher nit display in the 15"?
-
-
Ah okay that makes sense, I suppose that is another reason the starting price of the 13 is so darn high!
-
Just checked the website. It states available to order 18th and forward.
-
-
As much as I like this, it is out of my league.
Ordered today a SXPS16... -
Here is the link: http://www.hp.com/united-states/campaigns/envy/buy.html
It is literally "available on order 18 october 2009" and below there is a "reserve yours now" -
Getting exciting now isn't it.
-
I find it sad that the only place that I can see the voodoo emblem is on the wireless router thing on the optional accessory
http://shopping.hp.com/shopping/images/icons/envy_13/envy_13.html?jumpid=ex_r329_app_newfromhp -
i thought the 15 had lower nit to save battery life. but price makes sense too.
one posative of that screen is nobody can sneek up on you
has anybody reserved one yet? -
Wow, kudo's HP, a beautiful piece of hardware, with some excellent spec's! Im just interested to know why HP decided to not include an internal DVD drive?! Does anyone know why? I'd be more than happy to except a small extra amount of girth for an inbuilt DVD drive. If it had this, I'd probably be getting one of these!
On a side note, its nice to see a PC maker finally copying Apple and making a gorgeous, simple laptop design with a big touchpad! If this is priced right, Apple might have a problem pretty soon.
HP Envy 15? i7 meets 4830+15" screen!
