The reason they likely didn't include the built in internal optical drive I would guess is because a lot of people just don't use it all that often and by removing it they added in some space for a 2nd HDD. I know other laptops have 2HDDs and an internal optical drive, but they definitely can't compete in terms of the compact dimensions the envy 15 carries (along with its light weight).
-
Is this going to be the first laptop with the 4830? I can't find any benchmarks.. Closest thing I read was "it's on par with the 160M". Not too helpful.
-
I don't know of any other system with a 4830.
So, yeah I think it will be the first. -

well i guys this is a review of the hp 15 envy it's all in Chinese but i'll just point out the more important bits :
there are 2 version of the 15.6"
HP Envy 15 (1013TX) (expensive version)
cost: 103950NT
320 GB SSD
Intel Core i7 820QM
8 GB DDR3 1066
main battery: 4600 mAh
comes with a DVD Super Multi OD
Envy 15 -1009TX
cost: 70530NT
Q720
4GB memory
500 GB 7200rpm hard drive
the rest you'll be able to translate (cpuz, 3dmark etc..)
hope this helps -
320gb Ssd????
Very interesting. Note that they tested the cheaper 15 with standard HDD. -
And the expensive model you mention will be an estimated $3200 USD!
Wow! Definitely not buying that...
The less expensive one that you mentioned comes to about $2200 USD!
Still darn expensive, looks like I'm gonna be passing on the Envy 15 =(
However, I just got these values from converting the NT currency, so actual prices will probably be different, but it can't be by that much. Either way its going to cost a good deal of money. -
Actually I wouldn't be surprised if those are the prices abroad. I'm sure the US prices will be a good amount better than those on that link though. If it isn't, well...definitely out of my reach. But the base model at $1799 still looks like a solid option and currently my main pick (assuming the beats edition doesn't get some enticing upgrade).

If I'm reading this correctly, both the 13 inch and 15 inch variants won't have the same GPU and processor, right? The flash presentation seems to suggests a "Core Duo 7" processor, so I don't know what they mean there. Maybe its different processors and the same GPU? I wasn't aware of a 43xx model, only a 4830?
-
Yes you're right. The envy 13 has a core 2 duo dual core processor and the envy 15 has a new core i7 mobile quad-core processor. The GPU's are also different and the 4330 is a real gpu (the envy 15 comes with the 4830). The envy 13 naturally comes with the ATI 4330 and switchable to integrated graphics as well. There are a few reviews out for the envy 13 so you can see them for more info. The envy 15 doesn't have any reviews out yet, which is what people on the forum are waiting on.

For what its worth google translated version:

I don't like how we cant customize it however i like. If i want the 820 without the SSD i'm out of luck.
-
this would suggest that the 4830 is the only gpu option
-
What more than that would you want?? 4830HD is a powerful GPU. An overclocked with twice the shaders of the 4670HD!
I wouldnt complain, and the i7 is a beast.
Has someone already decided to get one and placed a reservation? -
perhaps im just picky but the 4860 would be sweet.
-
I tried, but the operators did not have any info. They just took my name and put it on a list. I guess we will find out soon enough. I know starting tomorrow Best Buy is going to start having some lappys for pre-order pending the upcoming win 7 release. Not sure if we are going to have some pre-configured envy's to choose from. Just wanted to pass along the info. -
I see you want an i7!!! (your sig) but the M17x is C2D, the M15x is i7 (but also weights as much as a tank).
Oh nice, if BB gets these, they will sell! -
I've decided, as soon as this is available in the UK I'm going to get one. Can't pre-order it seems without calling a number, and they don't actually let you pre-order, just register your interest.
-
i just hope its configureable. if there are only 2 packages to select from i will be dissapointed. ofcourse that will be one of the only things they keep from the 133
-
I think that the 4770HD would be a better choice than the 4830...but that is just me...dang I wish the 4670HD could be switched with the 4770HD!
40nm, 128bit GDDR5 that is a winner -
When was the 4770 released? It might be because they couldn't get enough stock to add it in too. I didn't even know there was a 4770 mobility until you just told me.
On another note, do you guys think that those other etch pattern options will be given right off the bat? Because I'm not sure I want the whole floral pattern they have on them right now. -
I'm also a little frustrated that they couldn't provide as high end a screen on the 15" model, or shove a Core i7 + 4830 in the 13". If I buy the 15", I'll feel like I'm losing out on display, if I buy the 13", I'll feel I'm losing out on power? -
The envy 15 comes with a full HD screen, but I assume you mean losing out in terms of the high-brightness screen. Just a matter of it being too expensive for that size. And I highly doubt you're ever going to see any notebook with a core i7 under 15''. You just can't put something that powerful in something so small with todays tech. The envy 15 im sure will have a great screen, just need to wait on some reviews to get some real opinions on it.
-
Can't wait for reviews -

@Serg
Isn't the mobile 4860 ( http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-4860.14572.0.html) the mobile version of the desktop 4770? Its 40nm GDDR5 similar or same core as 4770?
4860 specs look very close to the 40nm desktop part with lower clock speeds, but faster memory speed. Both use GDDR5.
The 4830 is the same chip as 4860, but clocked even slower and with GDDR3 or DDR3 memory.
I hope the 4860 will be available on the Envy, but if not the 4830 is still a nice video card and should run cooler. -
I think you are correct.
My bad. But you got the point of the 40nm GDDR5 card...lol -
well its officially the 18th in my time zone. lets hope HP gets an early start
-
Just doing my research now on a laptop purchase. Hoping to be soon... it makes sense to grab a 40nm graphics part (nvidia and ATI both have parts coming out or out) for performance at lower heat levels. Looking at the nvidia stuff it seems to take 50-70 watt 55nm parts and bring them down to 30-40 w range.
Envy is so tempting it is collecting together all the things I have wanted in a laptop. Goodbye desktop....
@ChivalricRonin
I've been out of the loop on tech things for a good while, but am reading specs now. The i7's have a TDP of 45w, with the 920 at 55w. Core 2 duos by comparison typically run around 35w with a lot of options that run well below that.
Add in a graphics card at 30-60w and that is a lot of heat the system needs to get out. Cooling is getting better, so they can now fit both these high heat items on 15" chasis, but I think it will be a couple years before they attempt to fit it on a 13".
I find the 45nm quad core mobile i7's a little overkill, and am looking forward to 32nm 'Arrandale' CPUs. They are supposed to come in at the core 2 duo TDP with integrated graphics in the same package. They use the same socket as the quads, so might be offered on the Envy at some point. -
Be ready.
Tomorrow 25% Bing Cash Back, tomorrow HP Envy 15 for sale.
That is sweet! -
Do they still have the $200 limit per item? Or did that change when it changed over to Bing? -
I dont know but if it applies to the Envy i might cancel my Dell and get this instead.
-
Walk me through this Bing cash back?
Say the Envy is $2000 ... are you saying i can get it for 1500 + tax/shipping? -
you pay 2000+S&H and then get the 25% back
-
Where do you see 25% cashback?
I have never seen that much on bing before. Usually 15% max. -
Bah, I hate living in England. Bing cashback is not available to us yet, Bing itself is barely even implemented here it seems. Funny how the internet made the world a smaller place, yet there are still such huge discrepancies.
Best I've found so far is 4% cashback. However, I think these machines will also be sold via a few other online retailers, some of which offer a higher rate of cashback. Still, nowhere near 15% let alone 25%. -
bing cash back from hp is 5%, so i guess if you found pre-configured models from other sites it could be a higher % but hopefully student discount + bing cash back = big savings
-
I don't think the bing cashback will work with the HP academy program.
-
http://twitter.com/hpdirect
HP announced it through their twitter page. And I don't think there's a money limit you can get back through Bing. I remember people buying from HP when they had 40% cashback and people bought $4000 laptops lol. It was insane.
Edit: Damn the Envy is coming out tomorrow? I need to see more reviews on the 15'' before I can decide!! Only thing holding me back is the heat and touchpad. : ((( -
I can work around the heat my laptop is a frying pan, so no biggy for me, and the clickpad must have been solved.
If it works, I cancel with Dell and get HP! (cant believe I just said that) -
Any reason why there've been reviews for the Envy 13 already and practically none for the 15? Seems odd...
-
-
Does anyone know how long the 25% cashback offer will last for? It just mentioned it's starting tomorrow but I wanted to know if I had some time to decide or not before I pull the trigger.
-
Hey hey hey. A little respect to my i7 lol
I am mostly interested by the long battery life, since I got Full HD on mine. -
-
It 25% off, what else can we ask. And the DM3 will sell like hot bread if it is out now..
-
-
So HP envy 15 is about $ 2000? am I right?
-
Yun, if I recall correctly the 13" was in the 1500 base price, and the 15" in the 1700s. I could be incorrect.
I really hope that HP allows individual-type upgrades (ie. I would like an 8xx series i7 instead of a 7xx processor) as opposed to a base model and a "upgrade" model that costs a fortune (where to get the 8 or 9 series i7, you need to also buy the trim level that includes SSDs, 8gb of RAM etc and other things that will push the price over 3000) .
In short, we don't know yet, but I believe the starting prices are going to be under $2000. If we're lucky, a well equipped with most of the high end options Envy will be about 2K. -
I heard 1800 for the 13 and 1700 for the 15.
HP Envy 15? i7 meets 4830+15" screen!
