Well it looks ok, lost a lot of detail and added noise in the conversion process. but that's going from 6.5MB to 370K so not to bad. If this works for everyone I'll start converting some more pics.

or if you have a better option let me know.

Damn now your making me want to get a M17x. They just cost a fortune and I don't know if I can justify the cost to progression of technology ratio. About how heavy are they anyways?

So I just got off the phone with HP customer resolution, I was really nice and very patient and they worked with me.

Ordered another Envy 15 with a 160 SSD + 250 GB (5400 RPM) drive, all other specs the same for the same price + the upgrade as I paid with the $350 coupon.

The customer support representative found me a $400 coupon (one time use for this instance only) and will credit me back the $55 difference left over.

Just gotta be really nice, and very patient. =P

Forgot to add the rep also gave me "expedited shipping" at no charge. ^^ =D

Hey guys, just received my Envy i5-540 (ordered 1/9/10) - with 1920x1080 glossy + slice. Very excited to test everything out! I'm going to be comparing it in large part to the SXPS 1645 w/ WLED screen that I just returned. Anyways, the machine is running silent (320gb option) and no complaints right out of the box.

(I am definitely going to have to retrain my brain to properly use this keyboard setup though...)

    lol. open it up.

I'd like to change out that DIMM nearby the palmrest.

I look at it in the picture and get annoyed that it requires that much more work to get to.

hot damn! just got the envy! its soooo pretty!! So far only 1 hiccup with some HP setup on first boot. I am impressed with the build quality so far! Few scratches on the bottom housing but I'm willing to overlook it. This will be a fun laptop to play with for the next 21 days as I wait for the 8540w to be released in full. I'm off to do a clean install.

No wonder the palm rest always feels so much hotter. The processor is RIGHT THERE lol.

Most other companies designed it so that the processor sits beneath the keyboard so it can get some additional ventilation. =P

Oh well, can't complain about the 3 fans though. xD

Well, I had called technical support first to report my problem with the buzzing (I think I'm the only isolated issue)

The tech transfered me to customer support who then forwarded the information to customer resolution.

They saw that I had already purchased one and that I had a technical support ticket, they were willing to bend over backwards when I refused a simple exchange in place of just putting in a new order and then sending back the one I have now after.

Even gave me an extension on the 21 days I have to return it. =P

I kinda want to say I have a slight metallic buzzing sound myself, although that's more likely just me being overly critical.

    It's kinda...why I had 5 laptops since December 5th, 2009.

It takes removing the four rubber feet, 17 screws and the small trackpad connector (the one in last photo hanging out from keyboard). You don't have to remove whole keyboard assy. but just tilt up the front edge, remove connector from mobo and you have enough room to change out SODIMM.

Note: When tilting up the keyboard make sure to place some protection between the screen bezel (across HP logo horizontally) and the back edge of keyboard or you will scratch the bezel. I used the black insert that came between the keyboard and screen for shipping it's already cut to fit :)

Ash, can you check if you have dual channel memory enabled by running CPU-z? Thanks.

I chekcing on a theory that on a 4GB config its slotted odd banks..

You have a similar config to mine on signature. Hows the Matte display?

Kamzu, can you check the memory if they are dual-channel? I'm guessing on 4GB configs they are not.

No complaints about the Matte screen only that the images don't pop.

I m not sure why you ordered the 620m, if I were you I would cancel that order, there was like a window of a week when the 620 was available. Sure its on the 32nm and faster than the i5's but in the time it was available, it was horribly over priced ($100 more than the i7 820 quad core) for a dual core cpu. You should really look into the cpu before you buy, your paying like 700-800$ for just your cpu which is far above market value.
