HP Envy 15 - $450 Coupon of $1399

Boy you guys are impatient. 3 days past the estimate and calling to cancel? Are you sure you wanted to buy the laptop in the first place? A good laptop I expect to use for 3-4 years, 3 days is nothing.

I ordered April 6 estimated ship date is April 15. I ordered a 1080p glossy screen model.

 

Sure have. Especially if there is a delay.

 

Obviously annoyed that it still hasn't shipped but it's still the laptop I want so I'm going to wait it out.

At least I know that when it arrives, if I'm not happy with it, that the Studio XPS are now available in the i7 + RGBLED combo again.

Well I really need a laptop right now and the reason I ordered the Envy was because of the coupon. I was trying to decide Envy or 8540w. The coupon sealed the deal but now I don't want to play the waiting game with hp. I know that delays can take a long time and I am not willing to just sit and wait without email confirmation of some sort (I need a laptop asap). So I decided to order a pre configured version of the 8540w. This is the second time I purchased the Envy and this is the second time it will be going back to HP.The first one I ordered was the first gen when they first came out it ran hot and was sqeaking at the palmrest area, so I returned it. Im not upset or disgruntled, I just really need a laptop for school, that's all. It's been like 6 months since then and my old laptop is about to crap out. It's a five year old asus m6n.
I realize shortages are no direct fault of HP, but I really wish they would let the consumer know what is up with the delays. I'm gonna call them later and see what is going on.

 

My est. ship day is wednesday, im guessing im in for a delay?

 

If you have a glossy screen, my guess is you get a mucho grande big delay. I ordered mine in March. Still "in production".

 

ordered my envy 15 on 3/30, shipped 4/8, received today (4/12) which is 3 days ahead of the FedEx shipping estimate. shanghai to khazastan (sp?) to memphis. again, base model except 1080p matte screen and 500 GB HDD. initial reaction, since i've never physically seen one before, is very positive. the matte screen is fantastic. i know 5 pounds is 5 pounds, but it's still lighter than i expected. i don't have the high pitched noise that some have complained about (or i'm not susceptible to it anyway) and the trackpad seems fine. still testing to see if i'll get hit with the BlSOD, but so far, so good.

 

yes, yes, Envy 15 is the best notebook with value in the world (of course , after coupon)

Ordered 3/30, Estimated ship date of 4/13 (tomorrow) ... Given all the delays that appear to be associated with the screens, I expect to have mine delayed as well. Though the email posted above suggests that they should be receiving screens for production shortly, if they haven't already.

 

This is not true. You can cancel. Call 866-288-1610 to cancel.

Also, you can try and get a larger discount since they got a delay.
Odd that they would do some huge promotion and not have any brightviews in stock. I ordered almost as soon as that coupon hit so they must not have had many.

 

I called and was informed that once a shipment is delayed they will automatically expedite the shipping to the 2 day, regardless. So if you're delayed and paid the $40 for 2 day shipping, you can most likely get that taken off your tab.

 

I got some email sending me a coupon for $50 more off for the delay. a hundred more bucks and this thing is practically free.

 

I ordered one on April 4th with the coupon as well, but I will probably be sending it back after I played with one at Best Buy. I'm annoyed that the screen does not tilt back very far and I just realized that it lacks a firewire port.

 

the screen tilt will probably be what makes me either keep or send it back. i use a laptop stand because after a while, my shoulders start to ache from being crouched over. i am hoping it is still tilted enough that I can use it on my laptop stand.

Ordered 4/1 and is supposed to ship tomorrow the 13th. No email yet. I ordered the glossy screen. I knew I should have gone with the regular 1080P screen.

 

So a heads up for everyone that is delayed. I just called HP and was told that my shipping date would be tommorrow. I haven't seen it updated on my email as of yet but I told the rep that I would rather just cancel my order. I didn't threaten or get angry I just told her I can't wait very calmly. Instead of canceling my order for me, she said she would take off $100 for my inconvenience. I couldn't resist I just went with it. I already ordered another laptop- the 8540w so I guess I'll just have to play with both of them and see which one I like better and return the loser.

You really think that the screen you're going to use for however many years should have been chosen based off of what wouldn't cause a delay of a few days or a week? Sounds like strange criteria for picking your LCD!

I'm in a hurry for mine as well (moving and need it shipped here before I leave...of course!) but a few extra days won't kill me.

 

Received the matte screen Envy 15 today, ordered on 3/31. It feels surprisingly light (BEFORE I put on the 9cell slice of course). Feels about the same as my XPS1340 13incher.

The screen is beautiful. Text is very smooth looking (some may say it's not very sharp). It's very bright.

Few things that bother me quite a bit. First the screen like does not tilt back nearly enough, never had a laptop with such a limited tilt angle before. I feel like I'm going to break that hinge in trying to get a few more mm of tilt. Second, I'm used to having a backlit keyboard now, call me spoiled, not having it kind of sucks, especially with those damn extra keys on the far left, what where they thinking putting an extra column of keys there?!! Very unnatural opening task manager ctrl-shift-esc, with the esc button shifted one column over, assuming I don't press calc-print-esc to begin with. And, like many (probably all) HP laptops I've messed with, no estimated remaining time on the battery. I know that estimated is typically exaggerated, but I still want it there. These probably add up to a deal breaker for me.

 

Yea I called they cancelled it without question also she did say the glossy brightview screens are backorder or something, so yea I was like ok cancel.

 

$50 coupon that I probably could have better used if I'd gotten it prior to buying the in-home warranty. No much else I want honestly. Maybe I'll get a Slice just in case.

don't know how u did that the cheapest they make is 1000 with tax so u got 160 off so far, no way.

 

I received mine today, with the matte screen. I have to say I don't think I will ever go with a glossy screen again unless I have to. It is amazing, the room I am usually in with my laptops has 10 windows, even with curtains I get a lot of light, and it looks so much brighter and sharper because I don't have to always only worry about adjusting for glare. I haven't adjusted the screen up or down really at all like I do with every other laptop I've ever had or used. Soon as I took it out of the box I was amazed at how sleek and beautiful it looks, compared to the Y460 and even the very nice M11x. I am really impressed, it stays cool, runs a little loud but not to the point where its distracting at all. I'm really happy with my purchase.. and Mass Effect looks AMAZINGGGG in 1080P!!

 

ok well hp cancelled my order cancelation request, it shipped, so now I have the msi and the envy coming, I guess i will compare.

 

Hey guys, I ordered mine on Mar 31, and est. ship date is April 12, but it is still in production now (April 13). So should I call HP and try to make a better deal like $50 off or free upgrade shipping? Since until now it is only 1 day delay so is it gonna be a little inappropriate?

they offered me a total of 110 to keep my order. I am just gonna get the new macbook pros released today so I cancelled.

 

I would call and ask for the discount. They normally give 10% off the original purchase price. As for the upgrade in shipping, that's already a given. If any orders are delayed the shipping gets bumped up to 2 days at no cost.

 

My original expected delivery date was on 4/9. I ordered the laptop on 3/30. I just got an email from HP that my laptop will will be shipping out today and be here on 4/16. I will be really suprised if it gets here that quickly. 3 days from China to California with customs and stuff in the way, I don't know if it is possible.

 

They can do it in three days. Took 3 business days for my last one to get from China to DE (shipped on a Wed after the cutoff, arrived Monday).

 

Wow that's impressive. So I guess both my Envy and 8540w are coming on Friday.

First one was fine but I ended up ordering the slice after the original order and paid extra for it, plus the Bing cashback deal I got may or may not have been canceled because HP gave me some $$$ off the order when it arrived with a bad keyboard (couldn't get a straight answer). So rather than risk being out about $500, I just sent back the original and re-ordered. The $450 coupon was pretty much exactly how much Bing was going to give me anyway.

Only thing I changed was to go from matte to glossy, and I was on the fence about that as I really did like the Matte screen.

I used my $50 coupon on the USB DVD drive that I had left off the original order. No sense in not buying it now for only $13.

 

Ya one of the main reasons I was looking into Envy was the matte screen option. Almost every notebook review has comments about how crappy the reflections are on a glossy screen. Then JJB talked me into the 1080p glossy.

 

Sounds like the same situation I was in. I ordered the first batch of Envy 1st gens and ended up returning it because of a Bing cashback issue. I believe it was about 25% off and they denied cashback for whatever reason.
Anyway six months later here I am giving it another shot.

 

Yeah I'm currently on there site looking at what I could get for $50. I already ordered the external drive in my original purchase. Is there anything else that looks appealing? I can't seem to find anything worthwhile but It's 50 bucks free. I have to spend it on something.

Everybody who ordered one in early March typically had 4-6 days spent 'in production' - I'm sure they had a bigger volume for this batch because of the coupon but it looks like they're definitely clearing out the backlog pretty quickly. I'm talking out of my butt here, but it wouldn't surprise me if, rather than sorting them by date ordered down to the day, they just had all the Envys waiting for the glossy screen in a big batch and sorted by a rougher estimate of order date (i.e. everyone from the last week of march/first week of April).

It's nighttime over there now so check in tomorrow morning, maybe 11:00am eastern US time. If it still hasn't shipped, call and complain some more!

it's worth the wait, though. when I ordered my first one in early March, I assumed that, surely by the end of March, somebody would have a machine out to compete with the Envy (probably the SXPS 16) -- the MSI GX640 is the only thing that comes close, but I hate the appearance and the SSDs are a better deal on the Envy. Even now with the MBP refresh, the Envy is still best-in-class as far as I'm concerned, even if it's not a very big class.

 

I guess they are short of core i5 420 because everyone upgraded screen instead of core i5 520

damn. They can ship my lappy without the chip as far as i'm concerned. already have an i5-540M from ebay on the way to replace the 430. Nah, send the 430 as I need to sell it.

 

The matte screen is very nice, all the other laptops I've had have come with somewhat glossy screens so it's somewhat disconcerting having the area around the screen being reflective and the screen itself just displaying what's on the screen.

Also I'm very surprised that FedEx delivered it so quickly, despite having an estimated arrival date of the 14th it was picked up on the 10th and was at my door the morning of the 12th, which was my estimated ship date.
